Sometimes I listen to this kind of stuff just to imagine what life was back like then. Sitting around a radio all cheering when something big happens. Man oh man how time changes things. Humans are a crazy species.

I found this video, because I am reading my grandparents long distance love letters to each other from the 1930s. Nana asked Grandpa what he thought about the fight last night. I am grateful, Nana dated every letter she wrote, so I could find out what fight they were talking about! :) Thank you for posting this!

What was your grandfather's analysis of the fight?

@@user-ut5ld7ri6g in this case I only had her letter to him. So I don’t know! But I keep finding them tucked away, so maybe one day we will know- GPop was a great athlete he loved all sports …

The presenter signing off Camel Caravan is Rupert Hughes, then a famous writer-producer, and uncle of Howard Hughes who got him started in the movie business.
Referee Arthur Donovan was the father of Baltimore Colt great and raconteur Art Donovan.

Interesting. About 10 years ago or so, I downloaded this KHJ aircheck recording. But, it did not include the end of the Benny Goodman remote. It started with the KHJ ID, went into the fight from Yankee Stadium. Then another KHJ station identification, with a shirt commercial announcement. Then, into another CBS show Gang Busters. .The aircheck ended with another KHJ ID and commercial.

Thank you for this. Lewis was my grandfather's favorite fighter. I can imagine him listening to this broadcast, and I can imagine being with him once again. RIP Grandpa. Miss ya.

KHJ was still at 900 kHz with studios and offices at 7th and Bixel in the Don Lee Building at this time.

A CBS network broadcast recorded at KHJ Los Angeles, then the CBS affiliate until CBS bought KNX.
