How I Document Homeschool Progress Without Endless Paperwork
This is precisely how I document my kids' progress while homeschooling. It is a work in progress, and I change it constantly, but I have loved it so far. It is simple yet powerful.

Make videos about all your homeschooling! I want to know everything. Listening to you is listening to myself. I'm curious about where you guys live that you guys have surfing classes during winter!!
Yes, I plan to make many more videos. We live in Hawaii. It’s warm all year round.
@AparnaJain1 😍 I live in US, but I am from the Caribbean. I know how it is!!
Wow, I love your story about the writing and your journal
I’m glad you connected with the writing part.
Template will be great
Love the video! I might get notion for school reasons!you are the second person to suggest it actually! They should sponsor you!
Thank you! Yes, it makes an excellent organization software for students. Wouldn't that be nice if they sponsored me :D
This is amazing. Would love to start with a basic template for beginners
That sounds good. I'm working on it now, and I'll add it to the description of this video soon.
my homeschool kids do the same to goole. hey google tell us a joke
🤣
Very helpful useful vedeo in detail information thank u keep it up narayan bless u 🎉❤🙌
My pleasure 😊
and yes, we would love to get the template :)
Ok, I’ll refine this template and share the link soon!
@@AparnaJain1 thank you
this is so helpful Aparna, thank you for sharing in detail. I like to be organized and one thing about homeschooling that was really scaring me was how I can organize all the curriculum and understand it myself and not overwhelm my entire family, so this really puts everything in perspective. Thank u, thank u!
I'm glad you found it helpful - this way is the easiest and most flexible and that’s why I am able to stick to it.
This is a very helpful list of games. I happened to have none of them, thank you for this video! I'm going to get these to play with my home educated kids!
Glad it was helpful! Our household doesn’t run without these games! The best part about gameschooling is that even “serious” topics we teach them feel like games to them!!
I love watching your videos! They've inspired a lot of math and science learning to home educate my children. I can't wait to see more videos from you!
I am so glad my videos are inspiring you! Comments like this help me stay motivated to create more useful videos. Thank you!
You're so lucky to live in an area where you don't have to take exams. We have to take an exam every June. There isn't that much space for free learning. But I'm trying my best to keep it fun and keep them engaged. A very inspiring video! Thank you!
@@einfach_mama_tina you’re doing your best. Just let the kids know that the exam results don’t matter much, their learning and skills matter. If they are able to find fulfillment in the effort they make, exams won’t do much damage.
@@AparnaJain1oh that's a really healthy way to look at it. Thank you for this new view!
Mam I am a MBBS intern I realised dont get me wrong but schools just capture time focus attention energy snd effort..... I was an obedient child but I have bad memories of school bullying and dividing yourself into rich and poor class even in schools I have seen this 10 years back.....in 2012 we used to get beatings from our teachers we used to respect them my father didnt give me smartphone till 18 years initially I didn't used to like him but nowadays the culture which I am seeing technology has to be used with caution.... I didn't have a girlfriend I was focused obidient till 8th class by 9th I went into depression because of the maths and science suddenly we get a transition from 8th maths to iit and neet foundation courses all came to my parents anthe olympiad kvpy ntse all in my life forced to do rd Sharma and read dinesh science which is of no use in my life no french revolution coordinate geometry is helping me in my life I got A2 in my whole class and dad said gadho me baazi maari hai tune I lost my self esteem small victories are not celebrated in Indian families we all are miserable in our lives sorry to say this and university culture after covid drugs, girls, party, h***up culture....feel scared for my generation I turned 25 , 2 days back can't believe such a big course mbbs 4.5 years study no exposure 1 year internship exposure clerical work even school clerical work projects 90s kid used to follow orders and were honest how can I expect my child to mingle with those school kids who will have smartphones cheap content social media , girls, boys (m******n topics) drugs phone gadgets entrances s teacher who says tum life me kuch nahi karoge dont want this system for my child I want to be a good parent no school for them homeschooling I want to do for them for their own benefit even my father was against this topic but I will do the world is getting dumber and cruel day by day technology, schools and universities are making students slaves all illogical rules wear i cards shitty mess food just sitting all day in the class and children feel pride in eating maggie I can't fail as a Doctor and a Father Atleast they both are in my hands
If my wife agrees to this idea it would change my life. The school is robbing me i became poor because of it. I have 2 kids this is killing me.
Thank you for this video! You are reinforcing my innate desire to teach my own child this way. ♥️ I've been feeling bad because my 4 year old understands more about atoms, black holes, and bacteria than he does about counting numbers, and stressing myself over it because he's not learning the same exact way as his peers, but your video helped me a lot to calm down.
It sounds like you’re doing a great job! The Waldorf philosophy doesn't even bother teaching kids Math, Writing, Reading etc. till their milk teeth start falling. They're physically and emotionally ready as they grow a bit. No need to rush and match what schools are doing because their curriculums aren't data or science backed. Sounds like you're fulfilling his curiosity and doing your best. Keep going!
Hi! I absolutely love everything you say and do when it comes to homeschooling and teaching your kids how to learn. PLEASE continue to make content on the topic!! I am inspired by your ideas and concepts and would LOVE to know more as in-depth as you can explain them. The detailed examples are very helpful and showing us the tools you use! Thank you so much for sharing your content!!
Thank you for the kind words. I will strive to create helpful, quality content. I've struggled to consistently make videos, but comments like these help motivate me a lot.
Let's get connected through a group chat all homeschooling parents Can you create??
Hey! Love the video. I will definitely be circling back to this one day when I eventually have kids. Such good information and you’re so right! you really do need to find what works for you by experimenting with different ways but if you can, it’s definitely best to focus on the kids education first and figure out everything else.
@@emmag2329 thank you! Many commenters on my previous video asked me how it’s even possible for working parents to homeschool and I have noticed that those parents who decide that homeschooling is their priority, they’re able to do it successfully. It’s never been more possible than in today’s world.
You have confirmed my suspicious believe that i am right about the schooling system. I have 2 baby boys and I refuse to send them to school one day. So i am learning how i can obtain an income and spend as much time learning and playing with them, while having business that suits my personal needs and desires as erll as my unique schedule with my boys. We will be traveling a lot!!! I appreciate your courage to stand in your beliefs against what society are blind too. Your kids are so lucky to have a mom like you Thank you❤❤
I’m so glad my videos are inspiring you! Travel is such a great way to learn. I’m happy for you and your boys!
you are a GENIUS. everyone needs to homeschool their kids and not let their kids be brainwashed by the schools.
you are a homeschool/mom genius
Thank you so much 💖💖💖 this is such a valuable video for a new homeschooling mom to learn from.
You are welcome! I’m so happy you found it helpful!
been to Hawai. But chose to live in the Philippines cause its bigger and still has the same vibe
Thanks Aparna, this video is so helpful! Do you have instagram?
You’re welcomeI don’t use instagram much.
That's why it impermissible in our religion
Do you have an age-wise rubric you used for your kids?
I focus on their interests rather than their age. If some concept is relevant, we teach it, especially if they are ready. For example, when we play the game Settlers of Catan(almost every day), we realized that they would fare better if they understood basic probability, so we explained the permutations of a two-die roll, and they used that knowledge every day. At times, I peek into different curriculums and get ideas based on their level and interest too.

Hello Aparna, we have recently started watching your videos and are absolutely loving them. My husband came up with the idea of homeschooling and since the day I have started watching your videos my motivation has gone a few levels up ! 😊 I wanted to know one thing - how and from where do you get the homeschooling material? How do you decide at a particular time what you want the kids to learn?
Thank you for the kind words. I get homeschooling materials from many sources. Our style is "unschooling" but I include a lot of Montessori and Waldorf elements for balance. I don't decide when the kids should learn. I follow their curiosity and interest. This way I have discovered that my daughter has sensitive times through the day where she learns the best. She's not an early riser, so I let her sleep as long as her body needs it. Then we'll start working on interesting projects as late as 10-11am. After lunch, I notice that she wants to create things with her hands or play board games. Then we go for classes like gymnastics and tennis. After dinner, she gets inspired to do one more session of "Work". It can be anything from practicing writing or working on new projects like building cardboard boxes etc. My son on the other hand likes to wake up earlier and sleeps earlier. So we adjust according to his timing. Hope that helps explain our schedule. I will make a video about "day in the life soon".
Fannnnn tasticcccc
Hi Aparna. These are fabulous videos you are posting. Keep them coming. I have a 2 year old daughter. I have been thinking about homeschooling her. Your videos are highly helpful
I’m so happy they’re helping you! You’ll get a lot of homeschooling inspiration with all the new videos I have planned!
Thanks for sharing. I’m interested in homeschooling when my child enters middle school if she interested. If not I want to school abroad . She is in 4th grade so I will begin preparing. my husband is a therapist so I think we can make it work and my mom is retired.
That sounds like a great plan! I love how you’re keeping her interests in mind 🩷

Great content. Could you suggest for 529 for Texas residents? Or, is there a way to compare 529 plans? Thank you!
@@Jay230612 you can use the accounts I suggested in the video- New York, Utah, Nevada etc. you don’t have to open a Texas account. Choose the one with the best growth.

@@honeyb384 thank you! They’re so much better! We’re playing them every day :)
Can you provide a link of the website for the calculator used in your video at 03:25 under "How much money can you put in per month?"
@@pawanpinjarkar6510 www.nerdwallet.com/calculator/compound-interest-calculator
If I consistently and disciplinedly invest a monthly, inflation-adjusted amount in stocks and ETFs with the goal of funding my child's college education, could I achieve higher returns than the 7-9% tax-free growth offered by a 529 plan? While I understand that I’ll need to pay taxes on capital gains when selling my investments, wouldn’t the overall returns from equities potentially outpace those of a 529 plan, even after accounting for taxes?
@@pawanpinjarkar6510 you can invest tax free in a 529 in similar ETFs in the accounts I mention in the video. S&P 500 etc are available through Utah, New York and Nevada. They provide target date funds which manage the risk so at maturity the funds are stable. Of course it can be done in other accounts that aren’t tax favored, so that’s why my plan is to do 50-50 funding. I don’t suggest investing in individual stocks to do better than the 7-9% in the broad market. The odds are better with diversification.
Great perspective. Can you tell how much $$ you allocate for kids so that they can do projects, buy books etc?
@@casual_gamer987 I don’t have a set number aside. But this year I have spent close to $3500 so far. Most of it was Montessori materials from a high end website so this number could be lower for many. Also, these materials will be used for another 5-8 years between my kids, so cost per year will be even lower.
@@AparnaJain1 cool thanks!
Great video
I happed to come across your channel. First one I saw was board games which i can get for my kids.. thanks much.. Im going to watch everything i missed and im subscribed now.
I contributed 50 k in 529 plan and now if I move back to home country then can I still use this account to pay for tuition in other country.
There are a few colleges abroad that are eligible for 529 account funds. The choices reduce if you’re not planning to stay in America. If your likelihood of moving back to say India is high, I would use a traditional brokerage account. You won’t get the tax benefits but there won’t be penalties either.
Would it have any negative affect on scholarships?
529 funds can have an impact on financial aid but not on scholarships. It also depends a lot on the state and the college. The benefits of having these accounts usually outweigh the small amounts of aid students get in America. That’s why it may be a good idea to at least partially fund them
New subscriber.. informative
