The Quatermass Phenomenon: A British Sci-Fi Legacy
มุมมอง 42K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Long before Space:1999, UFO, The Thunderbirds and even Dr Who, there was ... Quatermass. Throughout most of the 1950s, Quatermass was a British science fiction institution which appeared both on TV and in the cinema. Yet perhaps more importantly, it was the first adult based, dramatic science fiction television show in the world. Now, over 70 years later, Quatermass not only lives on through it...
Could Battlestar Galactica have beaten Star Wars?

It was one the most popular, yet most expensive, science fiction TV shows of the 1970's. With cool characters, magnificent looking spaceships and featuring some of the best space battles ever seen on the screen, Battlestar Galactica was slated to become a massive hit world wide. But then after just one season, it was cancelled. So the question has to be asked. if it hadn't been cancelled, could...
Where does Discovery rank in the history of Star Trek shows?

From its very first episode, Star Trek: Discovery has polarised both fans and critics alike. After all, there's no denying that for a Star Trek series it's definitely unique, very different and extremely bold. But is that a good thing? What is the ultimate Star Wars collectable?

So will you agree with our sentiments? Please not...

    Remakes/reimaginings can definitely be done, especially of the older films like Forbidden Planet. If it works, we get a modern classic. If it doesn’t work then we still have the original version totally untouched. The only losers will be the studios, the viewers win whether it’s a success or a failure because we will always have the originals.

    • @scifizone
      @scifizone 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes for sure. however, the main issue is when studios choose to remake a classic when a remake isn't actually required. Ultimately there are some good points to be made for both arguements, though it's likely cinephiles and purists would much prefer to see new and original stories be made into films, as opposed to going down the 'cheats way out' by remaking/rebooting/re imagining.great films which don't need it.

    The biggest reason this movie failed is that there was no antagonist. The bad guy was already dead when the movie opens. There is no climatic battle at the end where good triumphs over evil. We had Luke, but Luke needs Darth Vader.

    • @scifizone
      @scifizone 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes it's a fair point. From what is a 'wow that's a neat plot twist' point of view, sure it's clever having Totenkopf be dead for years, but you are right, it does mean we are robbed of a climatic clash - which probably would've included an Arnie-esque quip at the end as Joe kicks Totenkopf off the side of the rocket to save the day. 🙂

      @scifizone 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry you didn't like our voiceover artist, but that's not her fault because the mandate from the video's director was to 1) don't speak too fast, 2) be sure to enunciate your words, and 3) don't sound like an AI robot. As fortune would have, she nailed all three because Tash - yes she is a real person - did her job so well (at least to us) that the alternative for the production team was to use a male voice with an Australian accent. In the end though - to quote a classic line from Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade - we ... chose wisely. 🙂

It’s always somewhat flat, impersonal and monotone. With the current accelerated advancements in AI technology, it will sadly become incredibly hard to differentiate between what’s real and what’s not.
