They should have let Glen A Larson do his TV movie miniseries idea 💡 and then depending on the success and popularity of those and then do a syndicated series. But yes, Battlestar Galactica definitely had the potential to be become a major multimedia franchise like Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who and any of the superhero IPs ..but was screwed by the network from day one! Wheras 'So Say We All' (I don't call that Battlestar Galactica!) by Ron Moore and Syfy should have been an entirely different IP altogether! (And perhaps sharing the same universe as Firefly/Serenity?) 🤔😇😎💪👍

Battlestar Galactica was a Saturday morning kids show run on Sunday night. Have you watched it lately? Some years ago I went back and watched all of them with its boring characters and mundane stories. The only good episodes were the two which guest starred Lloyd Bridges. When revived a year later it was even more of a kids show. Dr. Zee? The super scouts? What a mess.

Galactica came on sunday nights ...ABC should have known what they were in for instead of greenlighting it to compete with a movie..Yes Star Wars was only a movie

Greetings. I think that comparing Battle Star: Galactica and Star Wars is not entirely correct. Firstly, these are different genres. Star Wars is more of a fantasy genre, and Battle Star: Galactica is primarily an epic sci-fi saga. Science fiction always seeks to explain the changes taking place in the universe, while in fantasy miracles are taken for granted. Plus, the target audience is slightly different for both franchises. For me, BSG, as well as Babylon 5, is a hard classic of science fiction, while Star Wars tends to the classic theme of fantasy - the abstract fight against evil.

Your assessment is quite fair, and yes Star Wars has been classed as Science Fantasy.
Yet on a purely fundamental 1970s Science Fiction level, both of them feature space ships, space ship battle scenes, aliens, male and female heroes, and cool looking bad guys. Ultimately the only thing which separates them is the Force and a reference to Earth.
The true irony though is that both Star Wars and BSG appeared in the cinema, so at some point they actually WERE in competition with each other. 🙂

@@scifizoneStar Wars references Earth indirectly--"a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"
