Looking good. Looking forward to the Bellows re-work.
Hi Rich. I know this video is 5 years old but do you remember is the bass reed block on this accordion was glued in or waxed in. I have just bought one and am about to re-do the valves as someone has stored this the wrong way up and some of the old leather valves look like pig-tails :(
Hello Alan I can't remember, sorry ! But once you have taken the pins out and can look inside you could take a photo of the reedblocks and send it to me and I will be able to tell you Cheers Rich
Coming along nicely.
Thankyou 😊
Thanks for the new demo of this I definitely need to get better at doing this!
Beautiful job!
Great video. I like the detail you include of the process.
Thank you!
Is there any alternative to hot beeswax?
No I think you have to use a mix of beeswax and rosin
@@richedwards9646 Thanks
Focus on near objects needs improving.
would be great to have more close-ups when you are doing detail work like waxing. Thanks.
Thank's Rich, I find your videos inspirational. I am now doing my own basic accordion repairs.
Hey Shayne That's great news Good luck 👍
I've got this to do on a cheap east german anglo concertina next! Nice to see you do it again
Good luck !
Hi Rich, your videos are so helpful - thank you! Quick question...if I am removing and replacing one reed from a fairly new accordion, do you think I would need to re-wax, or would I possibly get away with just loosening the wax with a soldering iron, getting the old reed out, and then securing the new one with the soldering iron and perhaps a bit of paintbrush work? Many thanks once again and good luck with all current and future restorations.
Hello Phil I would probably carefully remove the reed - then very carefully cutting away any wax on the reed chamber and then rewax the reed in .
@@richedwards9646 Ok, thanks Rich! Will dive in with this in a few weeks time...
they reinstalled the reeds into the wrong slots lol *edit* OR DID THEY?? mysterious
Yep that was weird I thought that maybe the previous owner had had a little go at things and put some of the reeds in the wrong place but that wasn't the case - the notes were definitely playing in the wrong order though !!
That was interesting thanks for sharing!
Always interesting thanks for sharing !
Why dont you put new bellows on it?
So with the paintbrush, you don't need to have/use an expensive reed wax spoon ?
7:19, oops, you'll need that one at 10:49.
👍
Wonderful video! Can't wait to see more repair projects like this.
Thanks rich have seen all so now I’m set to tackle my own two voice thanks again 👍
Thankyou ! Good luck - feel free to ask any questions 😊
What is the best temperature for melting wax?
Hello I use a wax heater - used for heating leg wax The wax needs to be pretty hot - I normally have my heater nearly on max If the wax starts to smoke you are in trouble - it can easily catch fire 🔥 Also if it starts to smoke the wax will be ruined BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!🙏
Amazing!
i love this accordion
Hi rich , I prefer it when you do commentary, I can see what you’re doing but don’t know how or why you’re doing it, it’s your channel and it’s great 👍
Здравствуйте.скажите кисть из какого волоса сделана натуральная или искусственная?
Hello I use a good quality artist brush - made of natural fibres - cheap brushes just don't work 👍
Hi, how are you? I have exactly the same Carmen ll accordion and I am an apprentice. I feel like it's out of tune but I don't know what order the bass goes in. If you could inform me. Thank you so much
Rich, love the video. I have two old Italian accordions to repair and you have taken the mystery out of it. May I ask what brand glue you were using and the thickness of the leather. Sorry I missed it if you mentioned it. Tx
It looks like you are going to let the complainers have their way on your channel.I personally have never minded your chit chat during a video and never even thought about it. It's your channel, don't let people tell you how to run it.
Hello! I think I will just do what I do ! If people don't like it then they can stop watching - thankyou for your kind comments Rich
Thankyou for showing the gluing back on - my first attempt at this was not so great - tried positioning the pallet then adding glue - had some failures - will try this way next
Hi Rich - you only refaced with leather this time - can you please explain your thinking? Other times you have made your own felted leather for this
Hello It depends on the accordion This older accordion only ever had a thin leather facing on the pallets If I had put a layer of felt and leather it would caused the keys to drop too far - and so I would have had to bend all the key arms quite considerably. More modern accordions are designed to have felt and leather on the pallets and the arms are shaped accordingly .
Hey Rich! You talk too little! 🤭
Hello !! Thankyou for your support - I hope you like the videos !!😊
You do you Rich, if you want to talk in your videos go ahead, that's what I say. As a blind user, I get a lot out of the talkie ones, I am only at the beginning of watching this as I write this comment, so no judgment here.
Thanks Jeremy You are always so kind! I will do what I think works and not listen to criticism too much !!
I agree with that, I like the talking too, it's obviously only up to you to decide Rich but it only seems fair that you talk if you want to!
Hey Rich, please comment. what you are doing. This silent video is crap. By watching your videos, I kill two birds with one stone. I enhance my skills in accordion restoration and in English language. Greeting from Slovakia.
Thankyou! Greetings from Bristol ! Thankyou for your kindness
That was so useful... thank you. ❤
Whoever told you that you speak too much was wrong. The video was great apart from the beginning when I had to guess what you were doing.😂😂 I thought the marerial was felt until you said. I found the video very useful and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Thank you.
❤ thankyou Stefan You are very kind Thanks for watching !

You talk too much ! Why do You not show what You are doing instead ? Bad show !!!
Thanks for your comment I have put up a lot of videos showing how to do a lot of things I was a bit short of time on this one so didn't really go into a lot of detail. 🙂
Hi Rich, can you please share the name of the song you played at the beginning of the video on the 100 years old melodion? Thank you for the videos, they are very helpful !
Ah, this is what my old rescue is. 120 bass though. No idea on the history. Would love to be able to share so pictures so you could see her.
Good luck with your accordion You can send pictures to richiemcrich@hotmail.co.uk if you would like 😁
@@richedwards9646 email sent. Cheer Rich. Regards, Anthony
Nicely done Rich.
I'm glad you are going to show the how's of how to tune.
I seem to have an old memory of the pallets being held on with wax?
Did I miss the nails going back in?
Very interesting. Is there a reason for the different colours of valves? Imwhat is the reason for the two pieces of valve material? Is the valve wax just beeswax? Told you there would be loads of questions.
Hi Anthony Good questions The valves are different colours because they are different sizes and the different sizes often come in different colours The second and third layers help to keep the valve lying flat. The wax is a mix of beeswax and rosin .
@@richedwards9646 different sizes as in thickness?
@@anthonyhoughton6625 different widths and lengths to match the dimensions of the reed slot.
@@richedwards9646 ah, perfect. Thank you Sir.
Another clear video Rich, thanks. At the end there it looked like some of the reeds still had huge gaps. Was that just down to lighting? Also, are of the reeds the same, or did you number them when they came out so you know which position they go back in on the next video? 😂
Thanks Rich. Gives me some inspiration to get on with mine.
Thank you - good luck and ask any questions if you get stuck on anything!
@@richedwards9646 oh, I'm sure there will be lots of questions.
Fantastic Richard. Watched the whole lot in one sitting and will start work on my new/old toy tomorrow. Would have liked to see how you adjusted the pallet to vary the key height but I think I can figure it out. You tube was designed for helpful people like you. Thank you very much.
Thankyou so much for your kind comments James - good luck with your accordion - ask me any questions if you get stuck ! Best wishes Rich
Fantastic job, Rich. You have a real magic with accordions.
