yes what happened to the loose reed and the broken reed??
Good question! I've kept them safe and when I do the full job of removing ,cleaning revalving and rewaxing all of the reeds I will put them back .
Hi Rich, where were the two reeds from you found inside the accordion?
This has given me a little bit of confidence to have a nose around my accordion. Very, very new to playing and I bought a Hohner Arietta IM 72 bass. Got it used. Somewhat cheap but it's also in very good condition other than the fact there is a leak from somewhere. Compression is not as good as it should be. Still is very playable as far as I can tell. But I would like it holding air better. Any tips? edit: Ah! So I think I've identified a leak between the bass side and the bellows. Put a tiny dab of soapy water bubbles where I could feel the leak with my upper lip (even though I have a moustache). Definitely blowing a bit.
Well done Rich another sucessful restoration complete. On to the next one.
Thankyou !! I hope my videos aren't too dull !!!
Not dull but informative and useful for anybody interested in the process of refurbishing accordions
It did not occurr to me that tremolo reads might be tuned under - perhaps that is why this one has a richer sound??
I sent an enquiry last week about ultrasonic cleaning via your hotmail account, and I wondered if you received it.
What kind of glue you used for attaching the tape? Thank you!
Hello I use Aleenes premium tacky glue.
Now that Charlie at CGM is no longer around where are you getting you materials from? I am looking for small vinyl valves and wondering who you have found to be best supplier. Keep up the good work. If only you could get some sort of overhead camera setup, i'm sure it would help your videos no end.
Hello Thanks for your kind words I use 2 different sellers- Accordion Shop 24 is an excellent on online shop and I also use Ha-vent accordion valves ( Julius is the owner - he has an online shop but also sells on eBay and is excellent 👍)
@ Thanks for your help Rich I’ll try them both.
Nice to see you tackling the lifting celluloid - I was thinking you would need heat on the side bits that were curling away very well but clamping got it so v useful to see - thanks again
Thank you 🙏

Hello! Happy New Year! I use an online shop - accordion shop 24 www.accordionshop24.com/ Best wishes Rich Ps also. " ha-vent " are an online shop that do reed valves and they are also on eBay Best wishes Rich
👍 thanks
Thank you for the time and trouble in creating your presentations. I have an old Settimio Soprani which makes that chatter sound in several bass notes as a sort of echo when pressure is backed off. It can be sometimes used to create a lower octave harmonic like an organ register when several single bass buttons are held together, pressure momentarily relieved to get the "echo" started. When a full right and left hand concluding chord is played it seems to introduce the lower note, probably more of an illusion by chopping the other higher notes. However the effect cannot be reliably reproduced. I was not aware that the chatter sound was a defect. I had assumed that it was inherent to the instrument.
Hello Thankyou for your kind message Good luck with fixing your accordion. Happy New Year Rich
@@richedwards9646 All the best for the coming new year.
Hi Rich That was a very good video on bellows exactly what I was looking to do to my Grandmothers accordion. Could you provide my the link for the seller of the bellows?

Hi Rich, I am looking forward to the next step in restoration.
Thankyou ! I will try to post another video as soon as possible 🙏
Could you please tell me where to buy the replacement keys in the first place?
Hi Rich. Another great video. Would it not have been easier to fit the Scandali reed block as it was rather than having to modify the Chinese one?
Hi James Unfortunately the scandalli reedblock was a different size
What material are the valves made of?
Have you considered using epoxy? Gives you more time to work and you can mix it to a more flexible consistency. I've never used it on an accordion, just about to embark on restoring a 24 bass Pietro for the first time, but I have used it on many other things to great effect. Might be cheaper and easier to work with than superglue. Also, have you ever restored the keys? My project has loose keys, tilting side to side dramatically, and will have to be sorted. I'm not too afraid of that, far less so than tending to the reeds, as I can handle woodwork and I have a spare accordion that proved too far gone to repair so is now spares and the parts for a tuning table. I assume there were either felt pads on either side of the keys to keep them straight, or wooden washers that sit in the frame. I'm going to strip down the spare keyboard for parts and to get a feel for it before touching the newer one but there doesn't seem to be information on repairing keyboards. Do most people see it as a write-off situation?
Hello Thanks for your message I would avoid epoxy on any part of an accordion! Having had to try and disassemble a number of accordions where epoxy was used - with varying degrees of success .. It's a bit too permanent and severe for a delicate instrument . Keyboard issues can be tricky Often a metal rod passes through all of the keys from one side to the other Over time the hole in the wooden part of the key that the rod goes through gets enlarged and makes the key wobbly Also warping of the wooden part of the key can make it sit at a funny angle I would think carefully about restoring an accordion with serious keyboard issues ..!
Hi my friend can you fix my reeds they are all still in place in the blocks but omr need revalved if I can send the blocks could you help ty
Hi Rich😊 Where did you source the bellows and how much were they? Cheers
I got them for £80 from a seller on Ali Express - they are really well made and made perfectly to size
Ooh. That’s brilliant. Could you send me a link mate? You have my email as we’ve had a few chats. Cheers and thanks for the video😊 oh it’s Johnny Zeeuw by the way 😃
Big job. I first put all the reeds in their seats and then carefully run a soldering iron with a looped tip along small strips of hardened wax in between and around the reeds. (I have a little ``cake`` of hardened wax and cut small lengths off.) It is quicker than your way .
Sounds good! 👍
Hi Rich! Enjoy your videos, always. Still playing my accordion you helped me refurbish, but now I'm practing twice a day to increase my endurance. Thanks for sharing your precious knwoledge and experience with all of us. Cheers, mate!
Hey Mark Good to hear from you Thank you for your kind words and happy accordion playing ! 🪗
Hello Rich. What is the app for tuning you use?
Hello Oscar I use Dirks instrument tuner - you can download it from his website 😁
Hello. For the voices with pins, What do you put first? The wax or the pin? (I'll do service to my WM Stella) Thank you.
Hello I don't put the pins in You often find them fitted in the factory for extra security but if you wax the reeds in properly then you don't need pins ☺️
Do you have any experience with heligonka repairs?
I'm sorry I don't .best wishes Rich
sounding good Rich - very useful you explaining and showing your process for the bass side tuning
Thankyou ! I'm glad my little videos are useful ! Sometime I wonder if it all makes sense !! 🤔
Thanks Rich much appreciated - I am nearly there with my main accordion honer regina iv 1941 - just a couple of dodgy notes to sort - revising how you do it is most helpful - I definitely need that long thin tool for poking through to tune the underside reed. The Royal Standard is sounding good!
Hey thanks ! Good luck with your tuning !
Sounding good - looking forward to seeing you do some more tuning - I am still finding that tricky
Sounds great!!
Thankyou !
Great job on this. Beautiful little accordion. Looking forward to seeing how you tune it. Thanks.
Thank you kindly!
Looking good. Looking forward to the Bellows re-work.
Hi Rich. I know this video is 5 years old but do you remember is the bass reed block on this accordion was glued in or waxed in. I have just bought one and am about to re-do the valves as someone has stored this the wrong way up and some of the old leather valves look like pig-tails :(
Hello Alan I can't remember, sorry ! But once you have taken the pins out and can look inside you could take a photo of the reedblocks and send it to me and I will be able to tell you Cheers Rich
@@richedwards9646 Hi Rich. I've sent some photos on your e-mail address

Thanks for the new demo of this I definitely need to get better at doing this!
Beautiful job!
Great video. I like the detail you include of the process.
Thank you!
Is there any alternative to hot beeswax?
No I think you have to use a mix of beeswax and rosin
@@richedwards9646 Thanks
Focus on near objects needs improving.
would be great to have more close-ups when you are doing detail work like waxing. Thanks.
Thank's Rich, I find your videos inspirational. I am now doing my own basic accordion repairs.
Hey Shayne That's great news Good luck 👍
I've got this to do on a cheap east german anglo concertina next! Nice to see you do it again
Good luck !
Hi Rich, your videos are so helpful - thank you! Quick question...if I am removing and replacing one reed from a fairly new accordion, do you think I would need to re-wax, or would I possibly get away with just loosening the wax with a soldering iron, getting the old reed out, and then securing the new one with the soldering iron and perhaps a bit of paintbrush work? Many thanks once again and good luck with all current and future restorations.
Hello Phil I would probably carefully remove the reed - then very carefully cutting away any wax on the reed chamber and then rewax the reed in .
@@richedwards9646 Ok, thanks Rich! Will dive in with this in a few weeks time...
they reinstalled the reeds into the wrong slots lol *edit* OR DID THEY?? mysterious
Yep that was weird I thought that maybe the previous owner had had a little go at things and put some of the reeds in the wrong place but that wasn't the case - the notes were definitely playing in the wrong order though !!
That was interesting thanks for sharing!
Always interesting thanks for sharing !
Why dont you put new bellows on it?
So with the paintbrush, you don't need to have/use an expensive reed wax spoon ?
7:19, oops, you'll need that one at 10:49.
👍
Wonderful video! Can't wait to see more repair projects like this.
Thanks rich have seen all so now I’m set to tackle my own two voice thanks again 👍
Thankyou ! Good luck - feel free to ask any questions 😊
