Not over kill at all! My 2600 ft 5 bedroom home has 44 drops! You can use cat 6 cables for all kinds of things besides networking. IR control, surround sound speakers (hey it works) POTS (yes used to have this), control the garage door from the PBX. I just haven't figured how to do water yet, but working on it! It's great to have everywhere
@@matthunter1424 yours hits the overkill setup too. I don’t know very many people that has throat kind of stuff in their house. Most people just have service provider router and just use everything on wifi.
Nice rack!!
Thanks Brandon. You still at CES? Same Brandon from the breakfast emails ??
@ that’s me! We returned home on Wed morning though
How use the ps5 in the rack?, That is, how do you use it outside the rack?
Good work brother
It depends on what it costs! It's a cool looking gadget though.

So true, I moved my whole setup into a rack. Put my gaming and production PC into a 4U case and I love the setup.
@@HappyOva Very nice, shame those cases come with a premimum lol but worth it. I have my 25u in the lounge room and plan on making it a bit of a feature with rgb and want not. I'm very tempted to get a 15u for the office and rack all my gaming/work stations in there too.

Beautiful
love the setup, but cat5e in todays day and age is a no no... your going to run wire once... do it right...
@@spacemanwho my apologies. That was an error during editing. It is ca6 cable that was installed
@TyDaSpace I learned the hard way a long time ago. Now my thinking is if it's going into walls. Future proof as much as I can. Love your channle ❤️
swap out those SFP->RJ45 transceivers to DAC cables, lower heat, and better performance (due to heat) Great looking rack setup!
Thanks for the feedback 👌👌
Are you going to fix the patch panels? Put one below the switch and patch up to the bottom row of ports. Top panels go down to the top row of ports. Take first panel out through the back, move 2nd panel up, move switch up, then bring the other panel up under the switch, patch to switch.
Yup.. I did mention that in the video. We will do that as part of a future upgrade video. right now we will just leave as is and enjoy the current looks before changing it up again.

Best part of this clip is the music!
1. Those cooling fans has no function 2. Switches are hanging on one screw per side 3. Using UDM-PRO but a Cisco switches is stupid 4. You should use DAC cables instead of fibers if you don't mind to clean them not even near a overkill
Thank you for your feedback! Let me address your points to clarify some of the decisions behind this setup: the rack is fully enclosed with side and front panels, so the fans help maintain airflow and keep the equipment cool. The switches are securely mounted using one screw per side. This method is stable and sufficient for a home network setup. While a full set of screws is typical in enterprise environments, it’s not strictly necessary for this use case. The Cisco switch was part of my lab setup for testing a very specific model I was testing for work. It served a specific purpose for my personal network experimentation. In my most recent video (which you can check out) the cisco switch has been removed completely as my experimenting is done with it. I appreciate the suggestion to use DAC cables, but in this setup, I already had fiber and transceivers available, which serve the same purpose effectively. Cleaning the fibers hasn’t been an issue, and they work perfectly for my requirements. This is an OVERKILL for a HOME NETWORK not a data center, so the setup is tailored to practicality and personal use.It certainly isn't an OVERKILL if you are looking at it in the context of a business environment.
Nice setup!!
Great video! How did you set up the automation that Opens/Closes your garage door when you leave/arrive?
Nice. Costco sells a workbench called permasteel. I checked it out in the store it looked real sturdy.
@@ediddy2497 I looked at it as well before settling with this. I liked it but It was more expensive and also my plan at the time was to do a full cabinet wall which permasteel didn't carry in my local Costco . I blew my budget so I settled with this for now.
One of the best explained and easily understood videos I've watched lately. Congrats on your new setup it looks wonderful. Your explanations of how and why you made your changes are very insightful and appreciated. You got yourself a new subscriber here.
home network? that's a home server man why the hell do you need that much server for a network
It is not a need. That's why its an overkill. I did it just because I enjoy this kind of stuff. You can get away which much less.
@@TyDaSpace Very true! Those who can, do. Those who can't pay!
I prefer keystone panels instead of punchdown panels, and I would have used 2 24 port panels, one on top and one below the switch, and used 6” patch cables. Much cleaner look. Glad to see some non-Unifi gear, gets a bit boring when that’s what every one installs.
Then you'd be disappointed in my most recent upgrade LOL.This was by 2023/2024 build. I took out the cisco gear - I need to lower my electricity bill (Budget cuts) for my 2024/2025 build. My testing is done and I am moving on unifi fully. That's what everyone is moving towards so my content is going to target that audience. I did use keystone in a recent build I just finished. I'll be uploading the video soon. When it comes to alot of my gear, I usually just buy stuff I see on really good deals on marketplace and make it work in my setup. They might usually be the best choice but certainly is usually the most affordable option accessible to me.
Try out some Mikrotik gear, their switch and router is usually better than ubiquiti.
I have been looking for alternatives to Unifi. I'll have to look in to Mikrotik maybe for my next upgrade. I am probably one of the minority that is not crazy about Unifi. I got roasted in one of my videos for not kissing Unifi a**. LOL.
@@TyDaSpace For the average Joe Unifi is a literal god. If you are a little bit more advanced user and you are not a fanboy you go with what is the best performance/price.
Meh Unifi Everyone using Unifi, the Cisco was a nice change
@@ZippyDooDa435 true. I use Cisco all day at work . I got tired of leaving work and returning to work at home. Also Most people don’t care about Cisco. UniFi is what’s trending now so my goal is to help with whatever people want
Definitely subbed, this is a gold mine! I can't really afford to build out something like this for myself, but theres a lot of interesting ideas and knowledge to gleam from this; so I very much appreciate you sharing and can't wait to see more!

8:54 accidental cinematic shot?
Not sure what you mean. 😁
That's not overkill! That's how home network installation should be. Nice!
@@ivanmaglica264 😀😀 thanks man. But To be honest though - most houses don’t need this. I only went this far out because I can and wanted too. In my parent’s house, it’s a simple just a mesh network I did for them and bolted to wall boards 😂😂. I asked my builder for install quote just for shits and giggle and it would have been insane just in cable cost alone lucky I was able to get in and run all the cables my self with the help of some friends
Im in the process of planning my network, and and I need to plan for at least 10gig access from a NAS (video editing) to my office and maybe 2 other jacks. Maybe, and this is purely secondary, a Unifi UNAS Pro for data backup. What should I keep in mind?
@@BLKCreativeStudio is it a home build or business build ? Are you going to be running cables or using existing cables. 10gbps requires at least Cat6 and that has distance limitations so you might want to be using cat6e if you are running new cabling. Also budget is something to consider you could go the slow route or just go all out. I did mine slowly over years and will keep doing that. But I just finished a build for my brother were we went all out. (Video coming soon for that one). Is the NAS going to be purely for editing?
@@TyDaSpace The only downside with running 10gbps over a copper link is the potential heating issues 10G-base-T SFPs bring. I run 10gbps between a 10GB unifi switch to 3 servers in my house and my desktop using MM fiber and SFP+. No heating issues and fiber isn't too expensive... I bought an old Intel X520 Network adapter for my desktop so it's running fiber directly to it.
@ thanks for the response. I should have given more info; I have CAT6 pretty much everywhere in the house (residential project), in my media room/office space I have 6 drops, the main network would be in a closet. Do I connect the NAS to a 10g switch and patch the cables that need that high speed access to that same 10g switch?
Noice!
wake up, its 2024!
@@kecske_gaming I already left 2024. I’m in 2025.

Cool, but avoid pass through connectors, Dey get faulty too constantly. The non pass through are better and secure for all conditions
Thats good to know. Although I have personally never had issues with the pass through and I have installed thousands of them. I’ll take that into consideration next time.
@@TyDaSpace if you use pass through for DYI and other small project, it works fine, but for commercial, outdoor, extreme weather, etc, the fail too constantly.
