Jak and Daxter on the PS2- A Review from a Nobody
มุมมอง 50421 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is my review for Jak and Daxter for the PS2 with a look back at fifty-five PS2 games released that year. NOTE: I used the GameFaqs release dates for this video, so if some of the release dates are a little off in this video, that's why. Generally, GameFaqs is a solid source for information, and I trust their information more than even Wikipedia. My solution to the processing issue was to s...

My Apologies for having to upload this video three times today. The previous two had visual glitches that were added on youtube's end when it was processing in their system. Ryse son of Rome is a game I've really come to enjoy a lot. I think it's a great game for what it offers, but I know that not everyone would agree, but that's OK. Even with the poor optimization of the PC port of the game, I've had a lot of fun playing through this game multiple times. Mirror's Edge on the Xbox 360 and PS3- A Review From a Nobody

Mirror's Edge was a revolutionary concept in a generation where I was starting to lose interest in modern games of the day. This was a breath of fresh air kind of game that came from DICE, the Battlefield developers. I would like to start off by apologizing for the fact that I had to mute the background music for all the gameplay footage in this review to avoid a claim. Unfortunately, the music...

Fun fact: the many people you see claiming to be a sega fan being a xbox hater doesn't make sense, and many don't get someone to say somenthing to break it
Les go
As someone who regularly plays Invisible War (version 1.0, without patches) on period-correct PC hardware (Pentium 4 2.4 GHz + GeForce3/GeForce4 mostly in my case) I can confirm that there are technical oddities with that version. The ones that affect the game itself - broken ladder climbing and potential physics weirdness (etc.) - can be solved by locking the frame-rate via V-sync (too high of a frame-rate, far exceeding 50/60 frames/sec, was most likely not accounted for by the devs), however most of the problems stem from other quirks not related to the game logic/loop. (1) All in-game settings automatically resetting to default values and resolution defaulting to 640x480. This happens *every* time you launch the unpatched version of IW. The reason why it does this has to do with how settings are kept by the game; each time you make a new game the changes you make to the settings for that “session” are stored whenever you save your current game. This means that each save file will recall the exact settings you made for that specific play-through when loaded, which is kind of neat but I can see why the default settings at start-up could be seen as an annoying bug/oversight. (2) Copy-protection scheme locking up the game (and Windows to an extent) in the middle of loading screens after X amount of area transitions (I haven’t counted, not sure if it’s random or after a fixed amount). This one is genuinely an issue as it makes it frustrating playing the game it was meant to be played (no nVidia required). The game will do the usual pause to check the CD before the loading begins proper but when the issue occurs this CD-check stage keeps going forever, forcing you to either power down the PC or CTRL+ALT+DEL rebooting the system (I couldn’t figure out a better method). The solution? Use a no-CD patched game executable. That’s right, cracking saves the day (and slightly shortens loading pauses)! I don’t know how common this issue is across PCs of that era and, hell, maybe I’m just unlucky but it certainly *can* happen. The only caveat with this “fix” is that you have to copy the whole game directory and only crack the copied executable or else the game refuses to start up again without re-installing it (an anti-piracy measure?). At least that’s what I had to do… (3) The mouse lag does occur in unpatched IW on PC but it’s only really an issue when there is a lot of slow-down happening and I still find it a lot easier than using a gamepad to aim and shoot. Not something that I personally find to be an annoyance. Default mouse sensitivity is pretty high, however, so lower it like crazy before getting used to the game. (4) Playing unpatched IW with an ATi Radeon 8500 card (GeForce3 competitor in 2001) causes bloom lighting to multiply in intensity to the point of making everything look like it’s glowing with extreme radiation. Doesn’t happen on Radeon 9500/9700/9800 series cards. This is a blinding eye-sore that can only be fixed by disabling bloom lighting wholesale. I don’t know if an “ATi fix” patch was ever issued, maybe one of the patches for IW fixes this? Either way, this is an out-of-the-box issue that is very much real. (5) The game supports PC game pads of the time (Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power is what I have and sometimes use) but it’s pretty clear that stick aiming/looking doesn’t quite feel right in IW. Maybe there is a Windows setting I’ve missed or maybe it’s an issue with this particular model of game pad but looking diagonally has a certain stiffness to it I can’t quite explain that’s definitely not in the Xbox version. Maybe the PC game has issues registering the X- and Y-axis simultaneously with sticks? I don’t know. I didn’t test this very extensively so it’s possible I missed something but it was yet another unpatched issue I came across. There might be some other quirks I missed but these were the freshest in my mind. Anyway, thanks a lot for the video! It’s always refreshing hearing a perspective that doesn’t outright slam the game. I don’t personally find the universal ammo to be a problem. The bigger issue for me was how quickly you max out your biomods and how upgrade cans and money become obsolete in the game’s latter half unless you constantly change your play style. Some biomods being more useful than others is another thing I wish was addressed.
The Godfather had similar mechanics
I still need to Play The Godfather and Scarface.
Nice review. I’ll download that control patch right away 😂 From looking at the gameplay, I kinda get a Drakengard vibe from it. more specifically the flying missions
I need to play Drakengard someday. I've owned it on the PS2 for years, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
If they remake this game ill buy in a heartbeat
I don’t think it’s A gta clone at all. Just A studio taking advantage of what was already done for “open world/ sandbox” games at the time. Different approach same execution. The gta comparisons killed the game along with bugs. NY was wayyyyyy better than LA idk why LA was so popular
I think at the time, since the Sandbox genre was still a very new genre, every game that was similar to GTA was going to be dubbed a GTA clone. I use the term in the video because that's the term they used around that time. Nowadays, with so many open-world/sandbox games out there, the term "GTA clone" has long since died, and rightfully so. When a genre is young, everything is a "GTA Clone," "Doom Clone," "Mario Clone," and etc. As more games in the genre become available, and add more to that genre, the "clone" title attached to similar games dissipates.
@ I agree. Imagine if the good sandbox games have gotten the recognition they deserved and received sequels or proper remasters. Gaming will be great again I think it’s coming soon.
@@grimnyc216 Hopefully. Maybe someone picked up the Saints Row and Red Faction franchises after Volition died. There's still gotta be some kind of interest in the ones with name recognition, even if the most recent Saints was terrible. Maybe Activision, or someone else will make another True Crime. There's always hope.
Took you so long to do the review, but i kind of loved the video structure on its own right. It feels more like travelling to the past.
That's what I was trying to do with this video. I was having a nostalgic kick about 2001 gaming while preparing to write this review, so I thought I would share it with everyone. It was a great year in gaming.
@@ANobodyReviewsGames-wm9gg Yeah i loved it! Thanks!
Man i gotta say resistance fall of man is way too overhated. Loads of reviews I seen on TH-cam are people just talking trash on the game and saying how it didn’t age well and that the game was too difficult (which I find odd because they all play the game first on hard mode) it’s just nothing but hate for this game but you’re one of the few that haven’t and you do a super well job going in depth on this game and its history with the ps3. I love the weapons in this game and i absolutely love the artstyle. Resistance 2 I feel like just wasn’t as good as the first one mainly due to how they structure the game and its 2 weapon limit but Fall of Man has surprisingly been very fun. I discovered this game when a classmate of mine told me to play it with him after school and I didn’t expect much considering I never heard of it but wow I really discovered something great and I’m super thankful to have known about the game since. Anyway amazing video and I’m glad someone has talked about this hidden gem!
I think that most of the people saying that it hasn't aged well were probably in diapers when the game hit. They only know modern FPS games and are comparing the game to today's popular trends. My ancient butt has seen FPS games grow and evolve from the good old Doom days to Goldeneye to the Halo years, Half-life 2, etc. And etc. When you compare it to modern trends, yeah, it's not like modern games. It has the flavor of a different era, which is what makes it great, in my opinion. Most people covering this game probably don't have the first clue what they are talking about. They probably weren't there. Content creators also like to crap on games for views and clicks too, so they also tend to overstate a game's flaws for content. Resistance is an awesome game. It always will be
Noice!!! Imma look for it now.
It should be pretty cheap to pick up too
@ANobodyReviewsGames-wm9gg Awesome. Should look great on my 75 incher!
the thing that takes me out of it is how many hits enemies take whilst still fighting and moving just fine makes the swords seem blunt
I guess it's that line between having to make a realistic game verses having to make a playable game. You do have a good point.
Good video, you have an underrated channel.
Thank you.
I bought this when it came out I'm from NY and was living in st louis and got home sick bad as shit I was in this fame for hours just because it was in ny
So as a New Yorker, would you say the map is accurate in it's portrayal of the city?
@ANobodyReviewsGames-wm9gg it is road wise but of course they changed the buildings of locations me being a teenager at the time I would drive to certain locations and say to myself "this is not what it looks like in real life why does it look like that in the game" but yea I would literally never look at the map to drive where I'm going when I was free roaming
Great review, loved that game, just one thing you said San Andreas is huge. It took 9 minutes to circle the whole map on the fastest bike in San Andreas. It took 45 minutes to circle the whole map on the fastest bike in True Crime:NY. I timed it 17 yeas ago. And the fastest bike in True Crime is crazy fast on full speed. so basically 5x the size of San Andreas😁
Truth be told, I never finished San Andreas. However, as far as size and scope of the outdoor environments, SA has bigger, open, more sprawling landscapes is what I meant by that. I wasn't going to go into depth about SA's use of a renderware engine either in comparison to True Crime. I kind of only put the defense of SA in there because San Andreas is kind of a sacred cow now, so I didn't want to sound too negative about the game and have to argue with people in the comments about it. Vice City is my personal favorite GTA game.
Wait at 43:20 you’re talking about high school graduation money????? You got money for graduating high school???!!
Lol. It was a rare one-off case where between my aunts, uncles, grandparents, and parents, I managed to stack about $300.
Me and my friend played the living hell out of this game. I played the PS2 version while my friend played the PC version. My favourite thing about True Crime New York City is definitely the story. The reason why this game means so much to me is also because it was a Christmas/B-Day present from my dad. I don't have my old copy of TC:NYC anymore, since the disc stopped working. So hopefully I will someday get a new PS2 copy of the game someday in the future.
The game still looks to be going for $20 or less on the PS2 on Ebay. Not bad at that price.
really good video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
omg that intro <3
My second intro on. This channel, but I finally got enough reviews that I can put footage of games I've reviewed in the intro
what a video.. ❤ it
Why did this video show up when I typed "longest monkey sentence" in youtube
Escape from Monkey Island
dude why emulator frame is bit choppy, it's evident in gt3, is it emulator limitation or your computer? amazing video though, thanks for nostalgia burst
I don't use emulation. All this footage is off actual hardware. That's how the games run on actual PS2 hardware. For the GTA3 footage I did screen record it from one of my other channels, so it could be from radeon relive, but that video is also running on hardware with upscaling
@@ANobodyReviewsGames-wm9gg weird gt3 (not gta3) on oval Motegi has minor hiccups, take look, I don't recall any slowdown in gt3
@@olevet75 It could be from Screen recording this video as well, here is the original video using a Hyperkin HDTV Cable for PS2/ PS1: th-cam.com/video/d8uc0N8pmf0/w-d-xo.html This is from my original TH-cam channel. When was the last time you played it on PS2 hardware? You may not have noticed the slowdown at the time.
Got my ps2 summer of 2005 so I was late to the jak/daxter party but such a great game. I really miss this era of gaming the 6th generation was good times.
It was really the last generation I was super excited for.
Oooo this gonna be fun 🤩

I'm so glad you mentioned Kinetica bro!!!
I love Kinetica. I've been trying to get the word out about that game for years.
I beat this game by keeping my PS2 on all weekend because i didn't have a memory card.
I remember when I first got a playstation, I didn't know you needed a memory card, and the first game I bought was Final Fantasy VII. We played through the beginning of the game a bunch of times. We very quickly got a memory card after that.
Goddamn..

Fun Facts: If you go through blocked bridges in the game, you can see where the developers were originally going to add Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx to the game but the systems at the time weren't capable enough to handle the extra space. Also, Ground Zero is on the game too.
I have a video I made in like 2009 (digital camera in front of a crt TV quality) of me hopping over that bridge and other assorted glitches
I only played True Crime: LA. At first I thought that it was wack, but you have to get into it. New York City never attracted me until now. Thank you, put out more game reviews tho!
I'm working on a review right now. I bit off a bit more than I can chew with the one I'm working on at the moment, but I've got a lot of reviews planned in the future
Put out more game reviews
Such nostalgia watching gameplay of this, might fire up the old ps2 for this one
It's one of those games that's worth firing up your PS2 for.
Love your intro. Thanks for reviewing this masterpiece 😁
Thank you. I made the music to the intro myself. And you are welcome. I love this game
Come on, we all want to hear the game's music.
I wish I could play it, but TH-cam's copyright system prevents that from happening.
I’d love to see these remade with modern graphics and gameplay mechanics. The Getaway too.
My nickname for Resistance 2 was, 'Resistance 2: Rise of the Elevators' What I remember most about it, was those dang elevator chats with the Doctor character.
I could be worse. Could have been like the Elevators in ass Effect. But yeah, Resistance 2, I'm not sure about. First one of great, I really like what I have played of the third one, but the second, I still don't know what to think about.
This game and Scarface 🔥
One of my favorite games
As a GameCube owner, this was my GTA 😂😂
I put in so many hours into True Crimes NY. The best part was when you were such a bad cop, they would demote you from detective to patrol and gave u a whole police putfit 😂🤣
This game massively deserves a remaster and expansion
For real. I'd pay an embarrassing amount of money for a remaster/expansion.
Sleeping dogs turn out to be the third game, which we all know was True Crime: Hong Kong. But before that, it was going to be called True Crime: False Justice.....
We used Google Maps and fed that data into the game to make 100% accurate street maps for True Crime LA and NYC. For NY I got to direct Darth Maul (AKA) Ray Parks to do all the mocap for fighting styles you could buy.
That's awesome. I forget how long Google maps has been around. I was trying to think how it would have been done in 2005, but google maps of course. It's also awesome to have someone who worked on the game comment on my video. Gonna pin this comment.
I wish so bad that this would get a remaster. One of the most unique games of all time. I LOVED this game so much.
@@coltonw9359 Under Activision it wouldn't but now that Microsoft owns it who knows. I still want to remake Vigilante 8.
If only they knew how many ppl love this game the only reason it did bad was because of the bugs id pay for a remake in a heart beat hell after reading ya comment i got excited to see if Microsoft allow you to buy it. But unfortunately they dont offer it
NO overediting (Spamming the video with meme snippets) Thanks!
You are welcome, a lot of it is because I don't have the talent to do sich things. Lol. Plus, I find them annoying anyway. I like making simple, straightforward reviews. The meme snippets are also literally snippets of movies, and if I've learned anything about DMCA on TH-cam, just because the movie companies let it slide now, it doesn't mean they always will. If they ever crack down on it, you'll see thousands of channels disappear overnight. I don't even like borrowing footage from other channels except my own channels. I don't play when it comes to copyright.
The gore fx are hilarious. People without head or limbs keep screaming while moving them around levitating in the air.
Sometimes the body limbs can be used as melee weapons 😂
@@relentlesschaos7445 Yeah, like in the game State of Emergency.
Dude, I remember rocking up to a convenience store in my Limo with a personalised registration plate. Upon entering the store there seemed to be a criminal attempting to steal something, so naturally I whipped out my double bladed staff and proceeded to dismember the peep before he could get away. Amazing game.
Mercenaries Was out around this time too I think. And a much better game to play in terms of scale and multiple players with different styles
I still need to play through the original Mercenaries. I own it on the Xbox. I really liked Mercenaries 2, even though a lot of people found it to be disappointing. I've got so many games, and so little time, but one day, I'll play through Mercenaries.
This was my GTA because I had a GameCube at the time. Very fun game!
Very fun game
grow up playing on the ps2 and oh Xbox had both games in the series. When I became adult and bought an GameCube to add to collection had to add the GameCube version as well.
I'm like that with some games, getting a copy of it on all available platforms.
