CHAPTERS:
0:32 - Anxiety and DPDR amplifies everything towards the negative
2:15 - Recovery from DPDR by stopping your constant research
3:29 - Things will get easier with DPDR recovery
4:49 - Anxiety wants you to stay anxious
This is a channel for people who suffer from DPDR and anxiety (depersonalization and derelization - DPDR). If you have depersonalization or derealization there is a way to get out of it and get your life back. DPDR is a symptom of anxiety that makes you feel like you're looking at yourself from the outside (depersonalization) or you experience life 'like looking through a fishbowl' (derealization). More symptoms include emotional numbness, panic attacks, racing heart, intrusive thoughts, feelings of dread, visual snow, catastrophising and so many more.
It can be extremely scary and exhausting and often it feels like there is no way out which causes a lot of anxiety. However, there is a way out and it's absolutely possible to live a normal and connected life, permanently.

Hi Daniel! You have given me some hope but I just want to know something. I've had DPDR episodes for as long as I can remember. They started being strong and uncomfortable when I was 19. I'm 31 now and 7 years ago I "entered" an episode that has not gone away since. Have you ever known someone who has overcome DPDR after such a long episode? Most people I know who have suffered it for years tell me the best you can do is to accept it will always be there but I refuse to think I'll always live this way. I felt so good by rewatching your episode about how it feels to recover, I almost felt a "normal" sensation for a fraction of a second. Does having it for such a long time non stop diminishes the possibility of overcoming it?

My understanding of Dpdr is just that the mind is always in survival mode, always looking for danger everywhere. Amygdala is always active, always switched on. And the fact is that the amygdala needs time to learn that you are safe. You just cannot force yourself out of the fear. You just cannot talk to the brain to calm down, it actually makes symptoms worse. The brain learns to calm itself through experience, that is why sitting at home and worrying about dpdr symptoms just doesn't work. You have to move out of the house and do something and completely involve in it not caring about the symptoms and slowly through experience the brain finally believes that you are actually safe and it doesn't have to guard you all the time. You will have to do things to actually show the brain which is why I believe self talk is of little use.

Sir I have an doubt I have OCD and right now I'm suffering with hocd I only like to be straight and when I think about bisexuality I used to feel it's disgusting and it's so weak behaviour but now I'm overwhelmed by my thoughts and used to replay that thing in my mind to get that feeling of disgust for reassurance that I'm not bisexual due to that I've become emotionally numb in that thing i can't feel the way I used to be 🙂 and now I feel like I'm becoming emotional numb in things I used to like for example being strong and having a good physique and some other things. But I only thing I'm doing right now is looking at those things with my consciousness, I mean I may not get a feeling of disgust when I think about bisexuality but I know it's disgusting in my opinion and I'm following consciousness and living my life as a straight male but being emotionally numb is so hard 😞 can you give me any advice sir??🙏🏻

It's difficult without talking to you in more detail. But in general we are most happy when we live life in life with our values, are you doing that right now? Being bi-sexual is totally normal, maybe you have been bought up to believe otherwise. Regardless of your upbringing it's obviously distressing you now so I'd get help and talk about it. I can help you with that calendly.com/discoverycallwithdan/60min

@@diartahazrolli9411 sorry but.. Man this is why I don't like helping out after I recovered.. I always get bombarded with "I HAVE THIS I HAVE THAT DID U HAVE IT... BUT MINE IS DIFFERENT THOUGHH, ILL NEVER RECOVER" THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS YES I had everything from emotional, physical, to visual and auditory symptoms. And I know its different for everyone regarding the symptoms.. but everyone who has recovered combined has had pretty much all the symptoms you have. I understand you are anxiety ridden right now because of it, but all yall really need TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THAT YOU CAN RECOVER TO BE 100%, CURED, BACK TO NORMAL OR WHATEVER AND THATS THE TRUTH. If you don't believe the flock of people who has recovered who are telling you this then I suggest even finding medical journals and articles where they have proven and RECORDED that PEOPLE DO RECOVER (and it also states that the time it takes can vary from a few days to a year depending on each person's behaviour) and for the love of god STAY AWAY FROM THE DOOM AND GLOOM FORUMS, with the exception of only reading the TONS of recovery stories there that is... until you can get the message through the wall of anxiety and into your brain.. Or alternatively, you can do like many of the people who have it, or have had it for years do and stay whining on the forums, spreading negativity both to others and TO THEMSELVES, not really putting in the HUGE amount of effort to do a goddamn thing, and never recover.. Sorry, I know it's tough but this is almost all there is to know towards the journey of recovery and I truly wish u nothing but the best.

Hey Mr. Baker, if you I still check this comment section, I just want to put my experiences with numbers out there and see what you think as a fully-recovered person. I’m about, 1.1 years into my experience with tackling DPDR, and I do feel I’ve been on the road to recovery for a solid chunk of it, but the one symptom that’s so strange to me is the numbess. Because it’s not like, full numbess, it’s like partial, that ebbs and flows Metaphorically, it feels like a water filter, that’s holes only get larger on average the stronger and stronger I recover, but that temporarily tighten and shrink when facing serious anxiety. If I had to put a number, I’d say I feel my emotions at around 55-66% of fullness, with some sort of limit that makes them last shorter than they did before DPDR, like a block that tries to kick in, and it does it for both joy and sadness, leaving me in a weird feeling, but partially positive middle state where I’m not as happy as I want to be but certainly not sad. It feels like when I emote, I have to kind of, jump over an Olympic hurdle to feel the emotion, same things with my passions, it’s like an internal hesitancy or pushback before I’m allowed to do what I want and feel that passion. It’s…strange. But not as bad as before, and fair to overcome. Do you have any thoughts?
