What a lovely rapidly flowing stream, bet there's some trout in it. The video would have been much better and more interesting if it had focused on your float so that we could have seen those bites. As there were two of you this could have been done very easily. Good luck for part two.
Hi Tony thanks for your continued support. We are trying hard to show more bites on the float and tips but this is not as easy as it sounds as I ties up a whole camera and you would use 3 cameras at once which is tricky. Work in progress, I will get you some bites on camera! I believe there are a few Trout in there.
is the river uck always that muddy colour.
Thanks for watching, not sure as it's the first time I've fished it, but it was very dirty looking, lots of ironstone deposits. Tight lines
Not really, the opening clip is perhaps a bit misleading as Paul's wading created a downstream cloud of silt..
I fished the Uck with local tackle shop owner Graham Kent last year he managed a 5lb and a 10lb carp while Chubbing, and I had one brown trout. There are always a few surprises in these little streams
Thanks for watching. The surprise element is why I love these little streams. I did disturb a few bigger fish near where we saw the mink. Definitely will return. Tight lines.
Lovely little river.
Never be disappointed with perch my friend!…. X
I know I did tell myself off.
Hi Paul, I am currently on a Mission to get some carp out of hever lake , I live on the site but I can't find any information about where the deepest point is , if you know please let me know👍🏻
Hi james probably best to DM via Facebook
Nice video Paul.
Glad you enjoyed it
What’s the added benefit of using a waggler presentation over a stick float? I know you can hold back on a stick float making it look more natural just don’t understand what float to use when. Thanks !!
Thanks for watching. You can't really hold back with a waggles, but as I was generally running the bait through it didn't matter. I wanted a larger float to. A be able to cast around the swim to find the fish. B to drag line on the bottom with out it being dragged under to much. I was also not putting much shot down the line, if you put all the weight directly under a stick float with very little shot down the line it tends to tangle quite a bit. The water was also quite shallow and a big stick can be quite noisy when striking etc, were as a waggler collapses on the strike. I did start on a stick but found the waggler better in my opinion. Chosen the right float is not a precise science, the more you trot in different conditions the more you start to "feel" what's doing the right job on the day. All part of the art of trotting. I bloody love trotting! Tight lines. PS I do explain some of this in the video after that one.

@@PaulVicaryfishing thanks for the detailed reply. In this session you only fed meat as loose feed did you find that was enough to keep the fish interested? Does feeding that much meat not over feed them ?
@nuzzi7794 pleasure to help if I can. I generally feel in fast water you can feed loads, as it gets washed a long way downstream, I was getting a bit low on bait that day. I haven't loads of experience fishing meat for Barbel and chub on that sort of river, but I felt I could have been more aggressive. When trotting maggots for chub I've found the quite often a changing the feeding pattern can induce a xtra bite. 20mins of lashing it in with 2,3, or even 4 feeds in a trot can turn cautions fish on. I'd like to fish that stretch with a gallon or 2 of maggots and see what sort of frenzy you could get them in. The flow in that swim was very strong and may have taken the bait right down to the next spot which is supposed to be a great swim so I may have not been able to draw them up.
Cracking fish, great fun, with my evening coffee, tight lines mate, catch you soon.
Thanks Clive, glad to hear from you again.
Do love a good Dace , used to catch a lot of big Dace from the Thames on the feeder, that chalk stream is full of fun fish, and good ones at that, nice one mate.
I really should get on the Thames just not sure where to start? Locks and weirs ticket?
Battis tights, really lol good one mate.
🤣🤣🤣
Wow what a Rudd, never have one that big, cracking job mate.
I was quite surprised to catch so many good Rudd on the Test!
Oh nice calm day, nice colour on the water, nice way to fish, light and roving, good job mate, perfect evening viewing.
Loved that day, been trying to get back ever since.
Hello Paul, great to be able to see your videos, been up to my eyes with plumbing at home, and work, but will be out on my lovely lake at the coming weekend, I will watch them all, tight lines mate.
Don't work to hard Clive
Please take the plastic off the rod
Every days a school day, until this video I didn't know it damaged the rod. I have since taken it off but it does make me giggle how much it bothers people. Thanks for watching and tight lines.
Congratulations - sounds like you were onto a hiding if it had been fished out by a couple of kids but you earned that fish big time.
Thanks for watching Karl. Really enjoyed my summer chasing those big Roach
Brilliant fishing and brilliant video - think the Korum Stubba is a game changer on streams like this, use them on my local chalk stream to great effect.
Hi Karl, yes they are great little floats.
Nicely done PV, no co-incidence that the roach come out after dark. I’ve been trying to work out where you are based on the soundtrack, near a railway and a church and unless I’m mistaken some parrots in the lovely birdsong.
Thanks for your continued support, really enjoyed my summer on that river trying to hunt those Roach down. Keep up the detective work, if you watch enough videos of mine you'll work it out. Tight lines.
The Ring-necked Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) can be found from Windsor all along the Thames estuary into North Kent to the Isle of Thanet, so that narrows it down (a bit). I also listen for clues. I heard the Parakeet and as I know the area, was quite surprised at their presence here!
The pursuit is half the fun @JW-wp1qt . I remember watching a video on you tube of a big Chub from the Eden and then walking miles to track down where it was from from, result was a 6 chub over 5lb and a PB of 6lb 8oz. Not quite finding the spot all by myself but it still took a considerable amount of effort. Hope you find them and good luck
He who dares… keep up the good work my friend… another entertaining video… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🐟
Thanks for watching Jem dog!
That’s not a goddamn perch 💀😭🙏 The only perch that gets that big is the Nile Perch and they don’t have colored tailfins
It's a absolute beast whatever it is. Tight lines.
@@PaulVicaryfishing wait a might know what that is. My guess is a redtail catfish
I reckon it's a Perch.
@@PaulVicaryfishing then you clearly have never seen a perch 🙏😭
😂😂
Great angling, well done.
Thanks for watching.
Nice little rod there, what is she 😊
Glad that you got one even though it was too dark for us to see it properly on the video, it needed a light on it. As I've said previously you're so fortunate to have permission to fish a river like that something that most of us can only do in our dreams. It looked like you were fishing in someone's garden.
Thanks for watching Tony. Gutted I dropped it, although I had no lights as it was virtually the last cast of the day and I knew the footage would be dim, but hey ho. It's not scripted but I should have known it would be last knockings when I'd catch one. Be more prepared!
Fantastic small river roach.
Thanks for watching Stuart
That was a cracking small river roach, well done.
Have you heard anything about willow close lately?
Wow! So please to catch that Roach at the end.
Fantastic video!
Thanks for watching, good one coming out tomorrow finally tracked down some big Roach! Tight lines.
Probably that jacket was already waterproof. Can you show the product on a cotton fabric?
It was already waterproof but a few years old and was losing it effectiveness. Im sure it would work on cotten as its basically covering the gardens with PVA.
Lol they certainly do thrive on chips down there 😂 they seem to be there all year, although ive never seen quite that many!
They like mini chedders too! I'm sure over time the Medway Chub have moved up permanently into there as it's only a mile from the confluence and that much water surely can't hold that many Chub?
@PaulVicaryfishing good old river pigs.. literally eat anything and thrive 😂 Amazes me, I live just up the road and they've been there as long as I can remember. There are a few deeper pools up and down stream but they certainly love that shallow section.. and the free pub food haha
Great vid as always Paul what was the g of that korum float was that and what shot size was you using?
Thanks Big Dave, it's a 1.2gram, I generally use that and the 1.6 for such shallow water fishing and put everything under the float except 2 or 3 no 8's or 6's depending how much flow and where I feel the fish are and the bait travelling with the lose feed. No 8 sometimes down get it down quick enough. Tight lines.
@@PaulVicaryfishing thanks Paul I’m in Kent and love to fishing some of the small rivers that you do
What a great river so full of fish as well, how lucky you're to have permission to fish it. Elderberries are a fantastic bait for roach, dace and chub. I've been using them for years. You really need an elder tree that overhangs the river and fish under it. Talking of traditional baits silk weed is one of the best baits for roach. When I started fishing over 70 years ago you couldn't get maggots. Why on earth did you use such tiny hooks, I'd have used a size 10 or perhaps 12. In all my years of fishing I've never known fish to be put off by hook size. Good luck for next time.
Evening Tony, thanks for your continued support. I can't believe I fished all this time and never used elderberries! Funny you mentioned silk weed, when wading earlier that day I met a walker who asked what I had caught and he told me about a 2lb Roach he'd caught on silk weed from a Thames tributary 40 years ago. Shamefully I wouldn't even know what it looks like (silk I'm guessing) The small hook thing is my tendency to fish maggots and my feeling that it's not presented correctly on anything bigger than a 16. The elderberries definitely could have taken a 12 or 14 hook. Tight lines and thanks for the straight talking comments they always get me thinking 🤔
Brilliant 👍
Glad to enjoyed James. Tight lines.
Is that in a lake
Yes in North Kent
Any trout in that stream? Surely there is in the faster flowing, great spot fair play
Thanks for watching. There are a few Trout in that river but I've yet to catch one in that spot. Tight lines.
Great fishing, well done 👌
Thanks for watching I really enjoyed that session, and will definitely try elderberries again.
Thanks for watching, I really enjoyed that session and will definitely use elderberries again. Tight lines.
You've really lucky to have access to such a beautiful river, it's something that most of us can only dream of. Shame about all of that litter and all that invasive balsam, on the river banks near me the authorities managed to erradicat it. The video would have been so much better if your son had filmed your float as it went downstream then we could have seen the bites. Just a suggestion. Suprised that you took that chair as you didn't appear to use it. Great video.
Morning Tony. Yes the litter is bad as soon as you get closer to the towns. There is a river group that is trying to eradicate the balsam, it's pleasing to hear that your local river has eradicated it. The holy grail of fishing videos, the bite! Very hard to achieve. Video out this Friday has a couple of bites that you can see on the float, may need to change the quality setting though as if you watch on phone it's automatically on 320. It's all filmed in 4k so quality is good enough to show. Tight lines.
Oh the chair wasn't mine, but we left it as couldn't carry back to the bin on the bikes
Nice I usually catch them when I actually do go fishing sometimes
Nice. Thanks for watching.
Because in water everything looks a bit bigger I would say that the perch was about 2,5 pounds maybe a little less, but if I was you I would throw something out instantly again back in the water
We will never know.... Whatever the size it's a great video, it's those moments that fishing is all about.
The Same would Happen If someone throws you in shark infested Waters Like Guadalupe
Don't go in the water!
Father and son fishing, really enjoyed that, some slick editing Paul. 👍
Thanks for watching. Going to bike further downstream soon.
Wasn’t that cool
So cool.
That’s a beast of a perch! I’d be after catching that, get down there with a bucket of minnows now! 😂
Definitely
That spot at 5 mins 30, is ingrained in my mind. 35 years ago I hooked and landed a brownie well over 3lb with my Dads old centrepin on 1lb line and a size 20 hook. I knew I only had limited time to land it before getting heat from the locals but it was going bonkers. I wouldn't nowadays but I took it home for dinner. I bagged it and dashed back to the station. My Grandad was so proud of my catch when I got home. We shared a fine dinner of Trout and chips with Mayonnaise.
Thanks for watching, what a great story. It's a lovely spot and the no fishing sign is still there from I guess when you fished it? I think it's OK to fish now, as I've never been asked to leave. PS. You don't know of any big Roach spots on the river?
@@PaulVicaryfishing Thanks mate, It was a very long time ago and I have lived for decades up in Northumberland, However, If the streams that I used to fish as a young teen are as they were then I had a Roach on the River Cray at over a pound and a half, Above a small weir as it approached Crayford, night fishing. Beneath that little weir were decent Perch. One spot on the Darent was amazing for chub. I can't describe the exact location due to it being so long ago but me and two friends went to Otford back in the late 80's. The stretch was a bend in the river in a pretty open field. The river was slower and deeper but quite narrow at this spot. The chub were highly concentrated into this stretch. I know this because my buddies caught (and I am not joking) at least 10 chub over 3lbs and a few 2lb plus, I fished just upstream and below them and caught precious little. I went back on my own a few days later and caught a few 3lb plus chub in that spot on legered spam in about 30 minutes. I'm uncertain how 'private' it was but being on my own and seeing someone approaching, I packed up and left like any good child angler would :)
ps I didn't notice the 'no fishing' sign :) a hundred or so yards downstream of that place I vaguely remember a spot that was referred to as 'The old bats garden' , perhaps unfairly :) If we fished her highly fish rich weir type pool, you could catch a fine fish very quickly, but my god you had to be quick...or you would get some heat from her. fair play, It was like scrumping for apples but at least we were putting them back .Childhood memories ...
@@stuross8190 Thanks for sharing real pleasure to read.
so that's a perch eating a perch, wow. What size do you think the big one is?
Hard to say without putting it on the bank but I would say at least 3lb
@@martincorcoran8263 its fake lmao
Why do you believe they are not ferrall carp?
They may well be and I stand to be corrected. I've just seen loads of undernourished carp that end up looking long and slim, similar to wildies. Not sure quite the definition of a wildie is? Any idea?
That’s a big sargeant !!!
YES SIR, SARGENT!
Nice vid keep on going
Thanks for watching
Great watch, very enjoyable, have swims like that on the Severn (BAA). I would just step the rod up 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, I will have to check out that BAA ticket. Wise words on the rod as well. Tight lines.
