The director is a hack. He ripped off Scorsese's "The King of Comedy", and so few people have seen that film to recognize the fact. Now he's making a musical/courtroom drama story for the joker... called Folie á Deux. This guy stinks

You want paramount pictures from essentially a direct to VHS or DVD company? Wow. NETFLIX movies are today what B flicks were in the 80s and 70s. The Warriors, The Last Dragon, they were top tier B flicks but they were B flicks none the less. REBEL RIDGE is not a summer theater Blockbuster it does take time to explain the characters, the premise, and add a bit of fantasy unrealistic occurrences to keep the movie interesting. It's those with limited attention span that miss relevant points and don't grasp the whole movie. He was on the Wikipedia page because he was a Marine Corps MCMAP instructor, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program which is Non-Lethal to Lethal training in MMA geared towards the life or death situations of a warzone not a ring or exercise. He was the man who taught other Marines how to engage in hand to hand combat when at war. You also missed the whole deescalation of force conversation with the sheriff again relevant to character development. Smh go back and watch it again, just like most 80s and 70s B flicks, there are things you won't see the first go around. But the second and third you will pick up stuff, this is how cult classics were made. That is the formula they are using. Just enough to keep your attention but not enough to hold so you catch everything and need to watch it again. This movie may never be a cult classic but it is definitely better than you made it out to be.

Waiting for spoilers. I’ve said since I saw the first trailer that this movie is going to be a dream sequence/shared delusion between Joker and Harley, hence the name Folie a Deux. I hope I’m wrong but if that’s what this turns out to be I hope it fails miserably.

The film is an homage to the military, In particular the domestic marine. The gap is wide between the civilian and police officer. It’s even wider for the police officer and military soldier. Terry has moments where his voice and posture changes based off who he’s talking to and under the surface is controlled aggression. I think people in the states tend to forget how important of a role our service members play in our overall safety domestically and how incredibly trained they are at their jobs. Under the racial subtext is the fact that it’s non lethal, At any moment he could have eliminated them. Do I think that was an intentional choice with the storytelling? Yes I would say so especially when you look at the casting with the lead. I believe the original choice was Jonathan Majors, Then it was John Boyega and of course we got the Aaron Pierre who’s gonna be big star! I haven’t heard anyone interpret the film like you did and it’s something to think about for sure. I’m gonna watch more of your videos.🤘🏽😎💯

Imo i do think Joker 2 is bad, but its just an assumption. I think making Joker into a romance movie makes it so much less depressing as compared to Joker 1, but we'll see. I may get fked over when i watch it later

This is my first time seeing your channel and I'm good. You're totally off base with your assessment of Rebel Ridge. This is actually a good movie from Netflix for a change. This is not a "lava lamp" movie, you actually have to pay attention. That's reserved for big stars with Netflix contracts like Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart, and/or Mark Wahlberg. This was the wrong movie to make this point. Why not The Union with its aging stars looking for a paycheck riddled with clichés to a wanna be spy movie? You are right about Rotten Tomatoes. Most people don't know how to interpret the score. I would give this movie a 3.5 out of 5 like most critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Good luck on your channel.

I guess this is a matter of taste. I don't see this as a "lava movie". I think it is an interesting modern action movie where the hero tries to avoid killing or severely injure his opponents. And I loved how it constantly switched the perspective. "He was a medic in Korea", "Thank you for your service!", "He was on the other side, he is chinese". And I think Aaron Pierre really nailed the protagonist. He really felt like an ex military, in his body language, in his slightly technical way of talking and in his emotional detachment. More Rambo then Jack Reacher I believe. But I do think you have a lot of substance in your discussion in the end about Netflix and Netflix own movies in general. But there are certainly gems, and I regard this to be one of them...

I agree with your argument about biased film reviews like rotten tomatoes and the quality of films produced by streaming platforms as they’re kind of a roll of the dice. But as a writer director and lover of cinema I completely disagree with your thoughts on Rebel Ridge.

Thanks for this post! I appreciate your commentary! I disagree with your take but it’s fun watching your perspective. For me and my watch party… a few of us were edge of our seat multiple times. I liked that they didn’t go romantic with Summer, I like that they didn’t just have him rage out. As a military vet myself, I connected to his character AND the way he portrayed the character. I love that you can still appreciate the film even though it didn’t quite connect. Again MANY THANKS for your commentary although we disagree you had solid opinions!

Almost every live action Netflix movie is bland to terrible. They spend so much money on these things and they're just a waste of time. The first couple was intriguing when it was new. A new type of direct to streaming movie, from fairly well know creators and actors. But personally I quickly recognized, that I am not going to waste my time on these. Plain rice is less bland than what Netflix is offering.

What the hell does Folie A Deux even mean anyway?

The only thing that takes me out of the story quicker, than the cast suddenly bursting into song and dance. Is a screaming baby in the movie theater. God I fvcking hate musicals!

First they name it "Folie A Deux" and I'm like, ugh. That sounds artsy fartsy. Then it's revealed to be a musical. I friggin HATE musicals! Then they premier it at the Venice Film Festival. Oh yeah, that lays my fears to rest. The first movie cost 50 mil. They spent 200 mil on this sequel. Which apparently, mostly takes place in Arkham Asylum. Bro! WTF is going on wiith this movie?!
