It's time for a grocery haul and a restock of the pantry shelves before winter. Though we are in the midst of harvest season and canning and preserving a lot of food for the pantry there are many items that we do not or cannot produce. มุมมอง 972หลายเดือนก่อน
Today we are touring and organizing the pantry after the every bit counts challenge. In the month of August 2024 we preserved a lot of food but I held off on putting it all on the pantry shelves untill the challenge was over. Organization of the pantry shelves is an important thing to think about and it not only shows us how much we were able to preserve in August (every bit does count!) but it...

I never knew a food mill also strains. Thx!
We got so many peppers this year! We chopped them into the freezer! So helpful. I need to empty my freezers
I cant wait for the Freezer Challenge. Sounds like a full life Steph.
I learnt so much in such a small amount of time! My goodness i have yet to get my hkmestead but im learning everything i need now so i can hit the ground running
I love this channel! Cat distractions, trying to empty the freezers, pantry plans, and I never thought about canning taco meat!!!! 😊❤
Spend $300 to get a free turkey?! Wow! Here we have buy a ham and get a turkey right now.
Have you tried making babaganouch This eggplant dip might be good for dehydrating and then using up as you want later.
I never thought about dehydrating that! Phenomenal idea!
Awesome idea. I am going to look into that. I wouldn't need a lot but it would be handy to have. Thanks for the tip!
@kimberlylamantia7794 my thoughts exactly 😀
Loved the hacks. Thank you.
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching
Love the wool dryer balls.
I am glad you stopped in! Chris was sad he missed you.
👋👋👋
Yeah you’re back 😊
Great to see you guys!😊
Glad to be back at it.
Looking forward to more videos 😊
More to come. I did a lot of filming but had no time to edit, so hopefully, I can make the footage work still. And now that the freezers are full, it is time to empty them 😆
Can't have enough peppers!! Today did finish fermented hot pepper sauce, 2 bottles, first time doing it from frozen, worked out well. Next raspberry jam, frozen berries. Trying again to clean freezer out.. just like you, yr after yr!! LOL!😊
It is a vicious cycle for sure, and yet there is so much satisfaction in filling them up, and we forget we have to then empty them 😆
Loved the hacks on squash-cutting and determining if boiling-down has reached the halfway mark.
Excellent. This video was just a few things that we had learned over the years, and I thought I would combine it in one video.
I sure enjoy watching your video’s. You guys are amazing!
Thank you so much. We appreciate you taking the time to watch 😀
So good to see you again! What an amazing bounty your garden was. Love watching how you use it all to bless and nourish your family.
This year has been fantastic. Don't get me wrong, a few things didn't do so well, but the season definitely ended strong. Now to see if we make it through the winter 😀
I’m envious of all your peppers they look great 😊
It had been an amazing pepper year, but they are one item that we are determined to stop purchasing at the store as we find them relatively easy to grow here. I think we are well on our way. The #pantrychallenge this year will be full of pepper recipes, lol.
Can stuffed pepper soup base. If you like stuffed peppers. When you heat it up, add the rice. Your garden did good!💚💙🩷❤️🧡🦋🦋🦋
Thank you for the tip on the soup. Definitely going to give that one a try
Really liked the pizza cutter hack and learning about the knife! Thanks!
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for the squas hack
I missed you to , hope you had a good market sale
The sale went great, with lots of visitors which was fun. I am hoping to do more next year.
So glad you’re back!!
Thank you. Things have been so busy here. I filmed a lot, but there was no time to edit. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things
Missed your videos
Thank you. Getting back into the groove now. Was a crazy busy October.
I wouldn't be a Hickory Croft video with out squash. I have all the old mills apple coring stuff but have it all on my Kitchen Aid mixer now. Harvested 2 pints of prickly pear fruit to day.
Nice! The cactus you gave us expanded so much this year. I can't wait till we have a good size patch.
When freezing the tomatoes you don't need to cut an X on them for the skins to slip off after thawing.
Definitely true. I still like to add the cut as I find the excess juice drains a lot easier. But the skin will slide off either way for sure.
you people must be very busy trying to get all your food prepared for winter
Would you please post or share the link to your recipes for the following Taco Meat, Marinated Peppers and Lamb and Black Bean Chili. Thank you 🙂Really enjoy your channel!
a lot of you tube people are doing stock it October
Love the Dutch babies. Also my oven sets off the alarms at 425 ugh.
I am Loving this shorter hairstyle! Thanks for a great video
I would love it if you would include the recipes in written form in the notes so its easy to find. Unless it is somewhere else online that I am unaware of?
I love the mellow richness of rooibos tea. I was told by some South Africans that it was pronounced "roy-bus". Since it's a rich tea, it's good with a little milk or cream in it. I love your grocery trips!
I found that my fasting sugars are higher in the am when i fast for longer than 12 hrs. Probably the body over compensating. Also I always try to have a protein with the snacks. Maybe next time take some cheese or equivalent to theatre with you.
Your blood sugar will surge in the early a.m. We call it a sugar rush. I don't think any one can explain why this happens. As a nurse, I say it is a rush to wake us up and get us going with that extra sugar. You may want to do your reading right before breakfast, so it won't be so early. Is there any reason why you take an A1C rather than an blood sugar reading?
In Canada our readings are in mmol/L vs mg/dL in the US. Conversion is times mmol by 18 to get mg reading.
A1C is an average measurement, usually over 90 days.
My Lodge cast iron skillet broke in two 😢. Can I do this with an oven safe stainless steel skillet? It's supposed to be able to heat to 400°f.
Great recipe! Thanks Steph. Milk in bags?! I havent seen that since the 80s. My mom used to buy that when we were little but it hasnt been in BC forever! ( early to mid 80s) are your dishes Fiestaware? So colourful.I love that. 😊take good care, all!!
We are not fans of dutch baby pancakes but my hubby has invented a lovely regular pancake recipe (not perfect) but better, with almond flour. That is a great find at walmart, I will definitely look. Imagine, hiding in the nuts and snacks!?! Sneaky. Almond flour is actually difficult to find here in Thunder Bay at times. I will stock up and store it in the freezer.
I want to try these Dutch babies! Can I use all almond flour?
Just tried this! Just used reg. flour. Made half recipe topped with my own blueberry and Gogi berry combo. Odd colour as the blue was dominant over Gogi colour. So much better than scrambled eggs! Have almond flour at Walmart on my list.
