    Hi.. Thanks for inspiring me to get a trail bike , your videos helped decide on my frame . I got myself a revel rascal. I was going to do PIKE on it at 140mm, but noticed that Revel is stocking 2023 with Lyrik. Which one would you recommend on the rascal ? I do trail riding , no big jumps . But i am 185lb though. Wondering if the new 2023 pike and lyrik have changed to be more mellower to accomodate Zeb in their lineup and hence Lyrik would be more suitable than Pike on Rascal ? I am obviously confused. Could you advice me. Thanks

    • @shredlifewithsam9352

      Excellent question. "Work" with it is a tough one. It'll Slack Waggon the socks off of it and bring the BB up to the moon, so I'd have a hard time saying to go that long on the front. Another consideration is the warranty. Perhaps run it stock, or look at the Fezzari La Sal. It can come stock with 170/180, so I suspect that it would be happier at 190 up front

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question!! First, the wheels. A Berd setup is awesome. Perhaps a bit more of a headache to get setup and a butt-ton more money. But hey, if you have the budget then gopher it. As for the standard v Enduro, the differences come to less 1 lb of weight, and some softer ride. If you're a rowdier or heavier rider, or looking for more of a one bike,, then the enduro is worth it, but otherwise. 🤷‍♂️ Let me know if that helps!

    Rode a bunch of Specialized bikes the last few years, their size L felt like I was reaching way down at 6’4”, but XL felt fine. Got a size S5 (supposed to be like XL) enduro, have headset stack as high as I can with 35mm rise bars, feels like I’m reaching too far down. Don’t know if I really want to go 45mm bars, not sure what that much rise above the frame would do to the stability of the bike when I’m at DV.

    Hi Sam, I commented on your T429 review and want to add to that question the Revel Rail and the Yeti SB140, It's between those 4 in 2.6" x 27.5" Thanks!

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! I have a Rail now after a blast of a season on the Rascal. Between the 140 and the Rail I'd certainly recommend the Rail for ya. That said, it has quite a bit more beef than the Mojo 4. If your exploring means jumping off huge ..... everything, then yeah go for the Rail. 🤠👍

    • @JAFO.
      @JAFO. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shredlifewithsam9352 I don't jump, just ride long exploratory rides but need it to do everything well. The Mojo4 was the climber, the Yeti the capable, theT429 is out of the running and the Rail was the one I was thinking might be the best of all worlds, not the climber the Ibis is but still dang good..? Thanks for your reply, and yeah, I'm edging ever closer to the Rail.

      @@JAFO. Interesting. If you're not much for jumping I'd put the Rail lower on the list. It does everything else really, really well, but that's something to consider.

    Hi Sam, Good review. I'm curious what this bike might ride & handle like with 2.6" x 27.5" carbon wheels? I'm too short for 29", been there, hated that. It's this w/27.5" or the Mojo4. I do a lot of long investigative rides, not much jumping or high speed. What do you think? Thanks, Jared and Francie Otten

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good stuff! I haven't been on the 429 with anything other than 29s, nor have I even seen one. That said, I have a solid hunch that it would work well enough. However, I've spent some massively fun time on a Mojo 4 and that thing is a blast! Coincidentally I rode it most on trail finding adventures. I'd have a hard time saying something else would be better than that for you

    Hey man, thanks for this! Exactly what I was looking for! I've heard that these things tend to creak a lot over time - did you experience any of that?

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome sauce! Glad to hear that. Every contact / pivot point is a massive potential creaker, so.... yeah, it did eventually, but not near as bad as some bikes I've had. The best solution is just keeping it clean and maintained (which we aught to do anyway right? ) :) I have a Rail now and it's been stellar!

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brandomonium410 Sure have! I enjoy the Rascal more, and the Blade is a bit more..... sophisticated (more engineered for nerdy appreciation) but that Instinct was all around, really good! I'd have no complaints on it at all. It's a bit more planted than the Rascal, so if your idea of fun is manuals and jumping around then go Rascal

    Sam, nice review. I'm trying to decide between the Trail 429 and the Revel Ranger, any thoughts on how to decide? Thanks.

    • @shredlifewithsam9352
      @shredlifewithsam9352 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome sauce! Yes, and taking several differences into account I say the easiest way to decide is to ask yourself of you want more XC, or more ultra light trail with a bit more versatility. The Ranger is a rocket 🚀 for sure, and the 429 is as well but with some additional features like adjustable geo via flip chip, longer, more stable and forgiving feel, and an ability to run more fork and shock (enduro build). The 429 is less what I would take for my chill trail or local XC races, and the Ranger isn't as capable of as much smashing as the 429. Hope that helps!

    • @geopietro
      @geopietro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shredlifewithsam9352 Thanks Sam, that helps. Based upon all this input, I've decided on the Ranger but at 5'9" I am between a Medium and a Large. I tried the Large and it felt a little big but I couldn't find a Medium to compare. I have a short torso, long arms and legs. Thanks again my friend.

    • @shredlifewithsam9352

      I hear ya. Both are great in their own way. I could suggest asking yourself the following: Am I more interested in riding really, really fast / aggressive, or maybe more technical? Which bike is actually available? Which bike am I more stoked to go ride? (That's really worth quite a bit in the debate) Hope that helps!
