Review of a neighbors gift (vintage 1930-60s hunting knives)
My new favorite neighbor gave me a box of old knives. Let's see what's good enough to be restored and what will be cast away into the ether .

didn’t know Chris griffin was into cutlery
@@Creamteam69420-s umm, I don't know how I feel about that comparison
@@shawnpepin7890 sorry lol I was talking about ur voice not ur looks
I’ve ordered one and this has been a good review packed full of useful info and you didn’t really need to cut an apple. I have to have my knives hair shaving but not hair whittling sharp and I can’t have any glinting…. that drives me nuts.
I have 4 BPS knives now. I have 5 Bucks... So obviously my brain compares the 2. The one thing that struck me immediately was the amazing quality of their (BPS) sheaths. Beautiful leather. The one thing that struck me immediately about the knife was everything has a sharp edge to it and I'm not talking about the cutting edge itself( which was sharp). But all it took was 10 minutes with 400 grit sandpaper and those not quite refined edges were gone...and smooth. That's including taking the wood off. I did this to all 4 of them. And it wasn't me who first noticed it it was my nurse friend who has no experience with these types of knifes whatsoever. Weird right. But for the price point these knives are beautiful. Truly beautiful.
I consider cool collections cool.
Bro...BETA MUCH !??
@@Orlosthedruid what???
So did you joint and clamp two pieces or I’m having trouble figuring out how you drill and seat the blade in there
@@viktor-rp7xl Yes, that’s exactly how I did it… cut the pice of would down the middle, traced the tang of the skrama onto one side, measured the thickness of the tang, and routed/chiseled the exact shape out of the tang ( you could do it on both sides with half the blade thickness if you want the joint line to not be slightly off set) then i epoxied and clamp the while thing back together and shaped the handle. The skrama 200 is actually a much easier build due to the full tang handle. If you need a video example, try looking at how puukko sheaths are made. The wood scabbards are very similar in their production
225.00 for a mora
@Ronie792 yeah, because these are "just moras"
@Ronie792 you would loose it if you saw what mora is charging for their newer premium wood and leather knives
Do you have a video of you making this? I have the skrama 240 bare tang and havent figured out how im going to do it yet
Thank you for the video and the support! We truly appreciate it!☺
@@RoxonTool no problem... any chance you could send me the new knife scissors with the exchange blades, or the new ks2 with the swapping blades? Can't get them in my area, and would love to do a review
Nice looking knife and sheath but please don’t say man purse…!! The correct terminology is a man bag 😂
@@anonymous4201 hahaha... I agree... sorry 😞 . I won't make that mistake again
It's a European carry all 😅
I was in between replacing the latch or coming up with a DIY solution. Your logic makes sense no use replacing a part with a weak design element baked into it. Thank you, mine was worn down approximately when you posted this video so I'm just now getting around to messing with it.
@Xenotheosis awesome buddy, mine is still working perfectly , so far so good. Glad I could help.
Can u speak properly? Cos u sounded so h0rny.
Looks nice, good job grounding the triangle at the bottom. Did you buy the zebra handle off the shelf and attach it or was it custom made to fit, by yourself? Considering getting this modern puukko
@@anonymous4201 I made it myself. Check out my other videos and shorts as i make many custom handles and sheaths
"Amber" knife. Wow
@@MrMBershadsky it does look like amber... great comparison
You should give it away to me 😅
Thanks for this video. It's good to see some Laurin blades made up into knives. Where do you buy your Laurin blades? I'm in Canada too; importing from the US/EU can be expensive..
Cool
Thank you
How are these knives holding up and which one is better the puukko or ranger? I understand the puukko requires a bit of work to improve the edge…
I love the wood pattern on the handle!
Thanks a bunch.. these handles always turn out great, but quite time consuming to laminate all the layers
You basically made a golok. What tools and diameters? How long of handle?
I've done a couple of their blade blank builds myself, using both the Kephart and the Woodlore pattern. They're good blanks and easy to work with, and the finished products fit quite well into $16 BPS leather sheathes off of Amazon. I do miss the days when they were under twenty bucks a piece...that was a mighty fine time and not too long ago.
Ooohhh. That with the bras bolters is going to be awesome. Be safe
Thanks George. Love that you continue to watch
If you want to know/see how the blanks are made look at helle norway, its allmost the same mashines but helle use laminate steel but the finish of the blades are the same, and it is a belt grind
First time coming across your channel.. Do you make these knife holders? They look really nice
Yes I do... I buy the blanks from Laurin metalli , and make custom handles and sheaths for them
Thanks my friend. More coming soon
So cool
Thanks my friend. More coming soon
You're so dang cute with these videos! Not as cute as those knives though.. they're all looking so good!

Awesome blade, bought myself two lauri metalli blades, 105mm. 10 dollars each. puukko knives on a real budget. Theyre on Ragweed Forge.
I love the 105 mm.. just made a couple of those recently.. the cost about 16 bucks a piece canadian, but are well worth the price
@@shawnpepin7890 yeah in USD its 16 with the priority shipping but i had to get the bs2fts from bps as well cause they are little badass blades.
How did you fit the blade into the handle? I have been trying to make something similar
I really like that first puukko blank. I like how you used the dark wood and the light in the middle. I was just looking at old videos for some ideas. I have a couple lauri blanks one is a 95 length with a 62 hardness. Thanks for the ideas.
Awesome my friend.. please send me pics or videos of your completed projects
@@shawnpepin7890 I'm gonna try my hand at videos. I'll tag ya. I'd be very interested in some useful opinions.
How much do you charge for the knives?
How are you so fucking talented, I didn't know that was even possible to do, my goooooood😅
Thanks a bunch my friend. You should check out the finished product (a couple videos after) it was a super fun build
That's cook😮
Dude thats awesome🤠 i love my tramontina
Clean work. Not enough folks use the Mora blade blanks. Which I must say are superb.
I really like the mora 2000 blank and their 106 laminated blank, but for simple carbon steel, it's hard to beat the Laurin blanks in 80crv2... either way though, your getting a great heat treatment
To najtańsze, najsłabsze noże i już chyba wycofane. Ultra Outdoor to dopiero nóż. Expandable to najlepiej zrobiony nóż i warty 90€
I had this YEARS ago. Lost it camping. Was the best knife set I’ve ever had, so useful
Does anyone's Blade lock up solid or not... mine DOES NOT !!!! Mine has WOBBLE and there is a rattle from the lock part... CRAP !!!!!
They have an excellent warranty.. try it
Can you buy scales for the kiridashi 👍🏻
@@mrjacko13ify no, but they are not that hard to make.. check out my videos on my custom handle from earlier this year
They make decent knives for sure. Though I know some who are reluctant to support them due to some possible intel agency/Globalist ties there.
dont forget they have been at war with russia, Im sure resourcing materials isnt easy..
Looking good so far, happy birthday as well
@@christianmcbride9905 thank you my friend. Working on the sheath tonight and will have a short with the complete piece in the next few days
This channel reported to Me 2 months ago I would not be disappointed in this knife and this channel was correct. Getting a really good knife with a really good sheath for i can't believe the money. Cheers
They are great blades. Really do wish that I got a D2 version , but their carbon steel is very well heat treated
Nice review. However, “better than any Victorinox” is a bit of a stretch. I own the upgraded, elite version of the KS2 and really like it - particularly at this price point. Not better than Swiss Army knives, but a unique and relatively high quality design.
I own more than 40 SAKs in all shapes and sizes, The KS2 Elite is my current EDC multitool because It offers the following advantages over most SAKs: All the tools lock. The scissors are almost as good as a SAK, but twice the size. It has an inline reamer (some SAKs do, like the Pioneer X, but most don't) It has an inline Phillips screwdriver (Only the Explorer or the SwissChamp have this to my knowledge) It has G10 non slip scales. (some SAK offer non celidor scales, like the Alox and Grip series) It has a pocket clip (you can add an aftermarket one to a SAK) It's the combination of all these things at a low price point that makes it a great alternative to a Victorinox SAK for me.
@@AdrianDeLeonSaldivar They're nowhere near as good as Victorinox scissors. They are bigger and that's useful as long as you're just cutting paper. They're not as sharp, they're not engineered as well, and they easily fail when trying to cut anything thick. There are a ton of SAKs with an inline Phillips and even a few with an exceptional bit driver and storage for several bits, including a Phillips. The driver is always on the Cyber Tool series and a few others. Technically, almost every SAK has an inline Phillips since the flathead on the can opener is designed to work on #2 Phillips screws. I've never felt the need to have a pocket clip on a 91mm knife, but to each his own. You can buy and add pocket clips to any SAK though. The price difference is worth it for the better engineering and the lifetime warranty from a company like Victorinox that's actually guaranteed to exist for the rest of your life, while who knows about Roxxon? Also, the individual tools are somewhat functional on the KS2 and that's about the best you can say about them, while the SAK tools are always exceptional. Take the saw as just one example. It's useless garbage on the Roxxon and shockingly good on a Victorinox.
I've noticed people are deeply invested and biased towards Victorinox because their grandpappy used them or whatever. They have refused to innovate and make their products better so now the competition is stepping in. Using the same designs for decades is one way to become obsolete very soon.
