In Destreza we do not use the full length lunge, however I do still teach and train it as its a great exercise to practice. Want to know more checkout www.thegrayschoolofarms.com/ #Destreza #Fencing #Sword #swordart

love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Fencing is a square dance.
Let’s hope you don’t come across a bump stock
Someone spent all of his souls on DEX.

Very entertaining. You two are fun to watch.
damn this guy is a rapist

⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔
You forgot the backshot, it's a historical move to humiluate your enemy... But it could backfire if they happened to like it, trust me bro, great move!
Volte!
Lol
800th sub!
I need the types of trust, but this video is also entertaining. Thank you
Please ask the man on the left what shoes he's wearing.
oh you're back
Super smooth. Enjoyed the video. Is that a Malleus sword?
Thank you Amigo! Yes its Malleus's Diestro. Quickly becoming my favourite.
Always a beautiful and elegant teaching!!! nice doggy demostration as well!!!love it my master!!!
Dogs are always so photogenic.
The wind fits perfectly to the colors and setting. It’s so Akira Korusawa!
This might be the weirdest question. But those kinda loose pants are awesome and I would love to know where they’re from or what they are called.
Ah, I can see you have fine taste. These are pascal's from high hill pants. You can find a link on our website to them. Very comfortable to fence in.
@@Cheeseitnow thank you haha. The look is simply immaculate

Really good to see you back!
Cheers Pj, hope you are keeping well.
It’s been awhile. It’s good to see you posting again.
"There you go" 😂
Nice... Doppelter dreieckschritt.
Can you recommend a good rapier for this style & should it be light-weight?
sigi forge is good quality.
I'm intrigued. Go on.
i study fma. a topic i would like is the positive negative affect destreza had on the world. and the subcultural indigenous arts that borrowed concepts from it.Escrema philippines, Esgrima Criolla,Colombian Esgrima. really looking forward too your content.
From someone who has never taken fencing in his life (but really wants to learn Destreza), that footwork is amazing. It looks so fluid and controlled. Really great to watch!
olé
thanks, really like this exercise! I'm curious if you think there's the possibility to integrate actions between Spanish Destreza fencing and Italian rapier fencing, I guess specifically the offline/circular footwork with the lunge? Is it just for exercise or do you think there can be good application in combining both? And are there any historical sources from Spanish Destreza fencing that do so?
Look to vulgar destreza for your answer.
Interestingly, some of this looks similar to some Italian offline footwork
There are similarities, Also the lounge is something we do not do in destreza however here I use it for practice.
@@grayschoolofarms9575 Have a look at Marco Docciolini (late sidesword/rapier) and Gio. Pietro Gorio (smallsword with cuts). They are Italian manuals that are basically LVD with lunges.
@@justanothercomment4701 I know them well. There are certainly some similarities within the systems.
You should try to stab more...it's a stabbing weapon after all. You do a lot of slashing which seems not very effective with such a sword hmm
Thanks for the comment, its true the weapon favors thrusting and it is often the safest thing todo. However Destreza implements both cutting and thrusting. Cutting can be very effective when utilized against hands or the face for example.
Where did you guys get your swords?
What source are you working from? I was under the impression that Destreza didn't feature lunges.
We study predominantly Rada. You are correct the use of lunges is not suggested within Destreza, However we do practice them to work the legs and gain a better understanding of their use.
I notice you don't call yourselves HEMA in your logo. is there more to that?
Honestly we just prefer the term Western martial arts or WMA for short.
@@grayschoolofarms9575 i do too. i feel that the word historical adds an anachronistic aspect to the practice. i feel the art is a living history that draws upon its past but is not defined by it. that is Lancet Fencing core belief. would you agree? _ Where do you guys practice how long have you been around?
@@LancetFencing I would agree, we practice and try to recreate an art from the past. But it will always be different and adapted to the present. We are Based in Dublin Ireland and have been around for about 9 years now. How about you ?
What a great video it is.And I hope you can tell us more about footwork.
Question: how does Destreza fair against Italian rapier forms?
The Art performs well, depending on the practitioner and context of course.
I know this is late but I’m pretty sure Destreza was designed specifically to counter the Italian rapier of that time. Not sure about how it would hold up against modern forms
@@EpicurusWasRight you are correct, it was designed as a counter to Italian fencers at the time (I’m new to a Destreza fencing school so the theory is still fresh in my memory) It has its origins in side sword duelling so thats why you see more cuts with these fencers. Fun fact: shorter blades were more favourable among these Iberian fencers as it was considered manlier being closer to the enemy On the modern fencing part, my instructors mentioned a HEMA event in Europe that had newly arrived Russian Competitors who wore reenactment gear and used modern fencing styles. Beat up the HEMA competitors in terms of scores and pissed everyone off XD Sounds like a really fun story, but I never bothered following up on it so im not sure how true it is myself. I just find it funny
@@cheesingiron3145 sounds like that was Swordfish 2017 or so, Novichenko was the main fencer I think that caused some discourse. He got 2nd
So for circular footwork when you go back you still cross legs? THanks.
Going back, is mostly done with transversal steps (diagonal) and then with a circular step. Also note the circular step can be down either cross legged or not. It is an old video and we will put up a newer one soon :)
Ah, this is an old video, that dose not have the best description. Footwork forward and back on a direct line is used mainly when the advantage warrants it. In Destreza moving along a circular line and transversaly (diagonally stepping off) is favored. We hope to do a new video on footwork soon but covid is making it a slow process.
