That “I met an adult who was born the year I graduated high school” feeling is a rough one 🤣
@@Jasonwfd Yeah dude, I was like “oh man, I'm the old guy now”. 😂 I hope you had a great Christmas!
@ hahaha as a ‘98 grad I feel this in my bones Same to you!
hope they make a horror game to challenge spooky like walking dead
I like them steep because the game becomes faster and therefore tougher to play. I hate playing a pinball machine that someone has setup as a floater.
Stern pinball cup is so dumb man, haha. Just a grind fast, basically no skill involved. I think if it might be more fun if you could get like 200+ points from a certain actually difficult score or mode (1B of Planet X in GZ for example). Very dumb that the meta is just playing for 5 min and then resetting. I have no idea what my games playfield angle is. I just go for fast and fun. Bubble usually up at the first line. Also, please, for the love, BoM is Bill of Materials.
Pinball is so expensive dude. In Canada everything is still in USD so for a NIB pro is like 11k. For a Premium it's around 14k. I want an X-Men so bad but those prices are insane. If it goes up again it prices so many people out of the market. And with so many machines released each year the second hand market has to completely fall off a cliff no? Also Stern isn't holding up their end of the bargain if machines NIB are failing. It's unacceptable. The quality control needs to get bumped up if prices are going up in my opinion anyway.
I don't disagree that the games are expensive but it doesn't mean you can't go on location and play. I play daily at home but I also play on location once a week so you don't have to purchase to play. I hope prices don't go up, they're already very high but time will tell I guess. Thanks for listening to the podcast and taking the time to comment, I hope you had a great Christmas!
@@TheFlipsideRetroRalph Yeah I have machines at home and I play on location as well, but I see people who would love to get in but trying to justify that price they immediately tap out. I just think the prices are not reflecting in the product at the moment. The amount you have to add to Sterns I feel nickle and dimed. They can't even install a silent fan for us? Anyway I had an amazing Christmas and I hope you did as well. Keep up the great work!
Love hotdoggin
I have a love / hate with it but it is fun on tournament nights. Thanks for listening brother! I hope you had a great Holiday!
standard slope for all my home pins. I try to set my home arcade to be as real feel as possible including all coin op to play.
I'm still playing with pitch, I always ran my stern's at 6.5 but playing more tournaments is making me think I should pitch mine a bit higher.
Pinball forever!
I think you should definitely jack it up if you want to compete. I have. no desire to compete so I like my pin set up to play as long as possible.
Keep all of my games between 7-7.5 degrees. It’s a trade off between the game being fast and side to side movement. A lot less side to side with the steeper pitch which helps with outlane drains.
I'm going to play with that a bit, I just recently started running my home games at a bit higher pitch. I'm going to adjust a few of them this weekend and give it a go. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Very competitive all around but if the system allows it , and the game allows , and the rules don’t explain it you can’t do it , then it’s not cheating.
Steeper doesn't mean harder on modern Sterns. It reduces the side to side movement of the ball and makes it faster coming down (falling) and slower going up the playfield (shooting). Less steep actually makes the game more random as the slings and pops are more active left to right and it is harder to nudge and drop catch the ball with less up/down momentum. The travel down the lane to the flipper is slightly faster with higher pitch but that is easier to adjust to than the slings putting you in the outlane constantly and up down nudges being less effective. If the game has a steep ramp like foo, I usually adjust the pitch so a decent (not perfect) shot will make the climb with no real drama. Wick pro is a great example because at steep pitch the ball will barely make the center ramp and at lower pitch the ball will literally fly off the ramp when shot accurately.
That makes sense, but I guess when you have a game at home and you get accustomed to a 6.5 pitch, it throws off the way the game plays for you at a higher pitch. So maybe 'harder' isn't the right term, but it takes some adjustment to be as consistent as you are at home versus on location with a steeper pitch. Would you agree?
For sure, you kinda have to learn both independently. Home games turn in to what you can do overall with the game when its perfect, and location games turn into what can you do on a certain games setup. In leauges here in Pittsburgh you can really tell who is great at adjusting to game setups at different locations versus people who know a specific game at a place very well. I have been known to use the PinGuy app on my phone to get a ballpark level and pitch check on a location game to understand some of the differences in setup when it plays drastically different than i'm used to. Another thing to oddly consider is that high pitched games with slightly reduced flipper strengths require less maintenance over long periods because the ball hits everything with less force and has less of a chance of airballing and damaging random things or getting stuck and needing to be retrieved. They might just be set up that way historically to make it easier on equipment and staff and players just attribute that to "harder" and spread it around pinside like a wives tale. 6.5 is how it was designed and getting close to that is always ideal.
I’ve had return springs break NON STOP on my machines. I do the new loop method typically but have replacements. Get quite a few at a time to be worth the shipping. Someone needs to produce small vinyl loops to prevent metal on metal that would solve the return spring issue. I’m wondering if they ever come back with Star Wars comic or not (after the 2 years) who knows If they keep raising prices NIB sales are going to keep slowing. Look at 3-4 years ago! The same games were THOUSANDS less
I ended up ordering 10 of them, I think they're like $69 cents a piece so at least I will have some backups. Thanks for listening to the show! I hope you had a great holiday!
Happy and healthy holidays to you and your family! I’m semi not surprised about Foo, the band is taking a “hiatus” while Dave reconciles with his family. Probably easier to shelve it now and bring it back out when they’re touring again. Pinball Cup - I finished top 100 during qualifying (LIPinSociety) and only play on location. Basically had to min/max and solely play for cup points over actual match completion. I was spamming Avengers because it had the most achievable goals in the line up. I also didn’t really like Avengers before but after playing game after game I genuinely learned to enjoy it. Pinball dying? definitely not and that shows because the hobby does appear to be getting younger and look at the number of people creating content now. I am curious to see the next cornerstone. I think D&D has a lot of potential if they build off the Venom IC integration and add some cool co-op features.
Happy Holiday's man! Thanks so much for listening to the show! I'm fairly certain at this point it's going to be D&D. D&D isn't something I'm really into but If the game is fun and has some RPG elements built into insider connected, I think it could be fun, time will tell. Seeing it's getting it's official reveal to the publish on Jan 7th, I expect a teaser trailer to be out soon.
Got into the first round / tier too. Felt like I did well but yeah. I think they’re getting their bearings with this plus probably some cheaters in there they need to weed out, maybe need to put an an ID check gate in to make sure it’s the person with the account and per game as it’s being played? I’ve had pneumonia as well and getting back on my feet but great stream. Can’t wait to see what D&D looks like and if it follows the movie or more of the game itself. Just got my Metalilica and need to set that up too, but again, pneumonia. And I set all my games to the standard 6.5, usually. Protip: You can use an inclometer app on your phone and lay it on the playfield itself to get that, too.
Hey bud, thanks for listening. Sorry you're sick, man. I hope you're feeling better, brother. Mine is lingering, but I think I'm finally starting to feel better. I'm not sure if you change your pinballs on your games, but I had some Ninja balls that I threw into my Metallica, and they wouldn't come out of the coffin multiball without me front nudging the game. I swapped them out for the standard Stern balls, and now it's not magnetizing the balls, and the coffin multiball works without issue. Anyway, just thought I’d bring it up. I hope you feel better, man, and can get some games in on your new Metallica. Congrats on that! I'm having a blast with mine!
Glad you’re feeling better, I was sick for 2 weeks straight. No more nib for me , they just lose so much value …imo the stern vault is just them trying to create fomo due to thousands of nib sitting in warehouses all over the world. 😂
Since Stern allows EVERYONE with an insider connected machine to participate (which they should) in the pinball cup, you can be sure that cheating is going on. Some of the numbers achieved would necessitate glass-off ball shenanigans and quick resets. WEAK. I agree with you - play with friends and forget about winning anything.
Dude people at home can just take off the glass and get their achievements of course people are cheating.
@jonathonflaman2440 Yup. That's what I'm saying.
Thanks for watching the show, I hope you had a great holiday!
I don't see the point in doing that. I would hope the majority of people are playing fairly. Anyway, I'm having fun with the cup. Some of the challenges are easy, but there are a few I've come across that are more difficult. Thanks so much for listening, and I hope you had a great holiday!
@@TheFlipsideRetroRalph I could never do that either but you see how many people cheat in the video game world. I don't know how it's fun for people or what they get out of it but it's clearly worse than it's ever been in shooters/fighting games. That's why the friend leaderboards are all that matters for me.
Hahaha did the same thing to a flipper on my TCM. Had to make a new loop on the spring. Works great.
Sometimes you just have to fix stuff with what you got right! Mine is still holding up so, so far so good.
Happy holidays to you and Mrs. Retro. Can't believe (or can) believe, after my strong X-Men performance at Expo, I'm not in your follow list. Stern name is ScottP with a dog as the avatar. Let's get connected. Crazy about a cold connection on a new machine. My NIB Stern games have been very solid. I had to replace the action button switch on my JP 30th Anniversary LE but nothing on any of my other machines. I have mine set to the Stern recommended pitch. Always enjoy the show. Be well. PS: I hope pricing stays flat or Stern closes the value gap to JJP LE games.
Happy holidays to you and your family as well, man! I just added you to my IC account. My account name is RetroRalph. Glad to hear your Stern machines have been solid. Mine have been pretty good too, like I mentioned on the show - just a few issues here and there, but nothing too crazy. I find them to be fairly reliable, and I play daily, so that’s good. Appreciate the support for the show, and I’m with you on hoping for more competitive pricing from Stern!
Fyi steeper by far get good at that play on location get better And the same thing happened with my bug's Bonnie. Top flipper, the Spring broke. And we just easier to replace the whole thing, but as you know, pulling a coil apart and replacing The Spring The connector and. The plunger that goes up through the middle of the coil is just a pain i* t** a** But you gotta do what you gotta do.
Rush should have went in before Elvira. They are pulling a Disney and should have done Venom lol price on that dropped way the F off
I'm going to take the glass off a Godzilla and beat all your scores with my hand. That's right....min said beat it with my hand
yeah like I have been saying Pinball is Dying and not evolving and doing anything new from my opinion as a Game Designer! Meanwhile I go to Round 1 and see a big wide screen 6 player Space Invaders game which has new content and tons of people playing it. More players = More Money. Pinball is only one player game and kids are always on the Super Mario Kart GP game. Plus kids and grown ups love the Claw machines and they make more money. Truth Hurts!
If the hobby were truly dying, people wouldn't be going out to play at various locations, they wouldn't be purchasing machines, and many professional players wouldn't be young kids. So I believe you're mistaken, my friend. What data are you using to support your opinion? You keep saying this, yet Pinball Expo just set attendance records this past year. Perhaps you are just stuck in your own bubble. Regarding innovation, what kind of innovation are you looking for? Insider Connected currently has thousands of participants competing in a six-week long tournament that you can join either from home or at a location. You can earn achievements and badges, and this is just the beginning, with plenty of potential for further development. I'm sorry, but your narrative doesn't hold up. While you may feel that the hobby is dying, it certainly isn't for those who are actively participating, whether through location play, tournaments, or home purchases. I think your dissatisfaction with the current state of the hobby has led you to believe it is declining, which is quite different from the actual reality.
who wants a sandwich ?
I'm always down for a sandwich, where from?
@ Werd 👍. Australia , i got you a vegemite & cheese ... with a pickle 👌
I agree with Kaneda and am a subscriber. 80% of fans care more about what you are getting overall from the game... more specifically 'World Under Glass'. Tournament players have been the savior of the hobby as well as being pariah's to the hobby at the same time.
Not always in agreement with pinball choices (pretty much the same case with anybody) but overall, production values of this channel are excellent.
I saw that Facebook post by the pinball cup cheater and had the same reaction as you. Not cool dude. Why do you have to cheat, just have fun and see where you end up.
Just leveled my 4 pinball machines at 6.5 bubble in the middle . When I get better I will up the pitch on them . I purchased 2 Pin Jacks , made leveling machines a breeze. I have Avengers IQ and it’s a love hate relationship 😂😂
Pinball isn't dying..but prices are coming back to earth and maybe that means Stern Pros could creep into the 4k range
Hey dude, I hope all is well man, loving your pinball content latley. I would love seeing Stern pro's at 4K in the secondary market. I assume that's what you mean and not NIB, I expect NIB to either hold at current prices or maybe even go up a little.
@ yea I'm talking used
Ya exactly. I doubt nib will ever go back down. I wonder which of the vault pins come back after a couple years
@ picked up my Labyrinth this morning
Steeper doesn't necessarily means harder since it makes it easier with slings and pop bumpers as there is less sideways action and the ball is more predictable. At least that's what one of the top world player told me. I put mine at the recommended angle. I use the Klein tools digital level with programmable angles, it even has a digital bubble mode too and beeps when its at the set angle. Best level on the market for pinballs imo, model is #935DAGL.
I looked that up on Amazon. do you set it in the center of the playfield? where do you check 6.5 pitch. I think my TBL is way off
Really surprised on Foo Fighters...But glad your feeling better.
Thanks brother, I really appreciate you listening!
Vault everything, Metallica is all anyone needs. Was going to get one but it was Pro trade + $5k. Too much $. I'm not a fan of pitch changing. It changes the game. Foo Fighters right ramp is one of the hardest ramps that barely makes it at 6.5. For your solder joint, did that joint have one of their clear shrink wraps on it to keep the wire from wiggling and ruining the joint? Turner has his coils plug and play which is way better.
I love that Turner uses plugs instead of solder joints for the coils. I don’t see why Stern wouldn’t do that-it would make maintenance easier and probably result in fewer cold solder joint failures. I really appreciate seeing that kind of innovation from a new company; hopefully, it will push some of the larger companies to adopt similar designs. Regarding your comment on FF, are you saying you wouldn’t increase the pitch since it barely makes it at 6.5 degrees? Would increasing the power of the flippers help counterbalance the higher pitch?
I'm glad you came around on Foo Fighters. I agree with you that it sold way more than they were expecting, but its likely purchases died down. What I'm most worried about is they may slow down on any software updates for extra features like CoOp mode.
I AGREE JJP IS MISSING THE BUS ON INSIDER CONNECTED. !!
Stern needs to make a Masters of the Universe Pin!
It sounds like you don't have much variety in your pin collection with all new Sterns. Get yourself some older pins!
You're right, I don't, but I'm lucky enough to have Electric Bat Arcade nearby. They have a great variety of both modern and older pins. I do have my first '90s machine coming this week-Williams T2, one I'm very nostalgic for. It will be my first entry into my collection and will add a bit of variety. Thanks so much for listening and for taking the time to comment.
Excited to have you on the hosting team for the TWIPYs!
22:40 Eminem/Dre/Snoop Dogg could be a fun machine but might be harder to keep family friendly for all locations
When talking about music, I want an updated Tron game with the new movie next year. Fun fact it’s being scored by Trent Reznor from Nine inch nails
@mrfuriouser I work at a lot of Kaiju shows and Kong doesn't sell. Even high end statues Kong collects dust while Godzilla sells like crazy and Even Pacific Rim ourselves Kong at everyshow
Dungeons and Dragons? Kong? There is no franchise more deserving of a new and updated release more so than South Park. Where is the new South Park at Stern 😢 Or Futurama - we need another fun adult humor release.
If so, I'm in on South Park! They really do need a new game. Badly.
I wanna see a Halo, or updated Universal Monsters
Agreed.
Kong doesn't sell. That would be odd
??? The movies claim otherwise. It will also be cross-generational. We'll see, because it's happening!
Another great episode! I could see "King Kong" being a pretty dope game, especially if done by Stern.
It may not be for everyone but Dragonball Z would be a pretty sweet pin
We just had an Elwin game, I highly doubt he’s got a game ready to go just one year from Jaws which isn’t even at 1.0 yet.
He's already working 2 games past King Kong, right now. He said so, himself, in a podcast a month or two ago. The layout for Jaws was completed BEFORE he took on Bond 60th - which was released in January 2023. We, the customer, are way behind them in knowing anything. Their development schedule is similar to the automotive industry.
55 here. I had zero interest in Back to the Future. And yes, Elton John has me scratching my head. Even though it shoots really well.
What is the outro music?
Who knows I wanna see more evil dead by spooky 😊 forget stern = bunch of greedy dudes fr!!
With SPIKE 3 I hope they get rid of those tornado power fans.
Stern needs to stop nickle and diming us to death.
They'll probably need two 😂
