NEW AESTHETIC: Burgers, Beginnings, San Diego, and California is for Lovers!
JAWNCAST EPISODE 1, YO!!!
Join me in a nice convo with NEW AESTHETIC; one of the hottest new pop-punk bands out there today! San Diego pop-punkers Dylan, Gabe Matt, and Matthew talk beginnings first meeting at School of Rock, to Dylan playing a show with Knuckle Puck, to joining forces and creating perhaps the finest example of nu pop-punk music today.
This one has been a long time coming - BIG THANKS to Dylan, Gabe, Matt, and Matthew for coming on and being such cool dudes (despite my nerves during the recording). Go subscribe to their channel, follow them on Spotify, and most importantly jam their music! If you've been in a rut looking for new punk music to get into; look no further.

HOW TURNOVER CHANGED THE SCENE
มุมมอง 6682 หลายเดือนก่อน
Let's wind the clocks back to 2015 (as per usual) when the scene felt like it was missing something "big." When an emo/pop-punk band reaching mainstream allure felt like a fever dream. All it took was their roots in the scene, a venture to create something new and great, and the right timing for Turnover to completely revamp the scene with what I consider to be one of the greatest albums of all...
STATE CHAMPS VS. TSSF: THE DICHOTOMY OF MODERN POP-PUNK
มุมมอง 4.5K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lemme take you back to the late 2010s - let's deep-dive into a time when State Champs and The Story So Far ran the gamut over the pop-punk scene at large. After 2015, the aesthetic, community, and sound between these two up-and-comers segmented the scene in a way we still feel today. This is how State Champs and The Story So Far carved the dichotomy of modern pop-punk. APPRECIATE Y'ALL FOR BEIN...

🚨 CALLING ALL NEW & OLD POP-PUNK FANS 🚨 Do you find yourself at a standstill in finding good new pop-punk bands? I've been on such a goose chase to find some good newer pop-punk artists, and I've been blessed to have Cameron Alexander reach out and ask me to give his new EP - Ice Blue Punk - a listen. EMO RESURGENCE: FOUR BANDS LEADING THE NU-EMO REVIVAL
มุมมอง 1.9K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
AYO remember the mid-late 2010s when Knuckle Puck, State Champs, and Real Friends were taking over pop-punk? Let’s go back to a time JUST beyond then; when the midwest-emo revival was only beginning to fill the innovative void with an entirely nu sound that would take the scene by storm! Free Throw, Hot Mulligan, Belmont, and Arm’s Length are leading the charge of emo-revival; three of which I’...
FROM REBELLION TO REFLECTION: THE STORY SO FAR’S OASIS-INSPIRED GROWTH

SURPRISE here's a nice quick one I just put together to celebrate TSSF's release of Letterman and their new album announcement! A brief analysis on the lyrics with my own interpretation; the 'feels' from both songs, and how these guys seem to have grown up with the fans themselves (myself included of course). Remember this is less of technical analysis, more of a deep-dive into the meaning of t...
HOW I SEE STARS SHAPED ELECTRONIC METALCORE
มุมมอง 1.3K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I See Stars is a band I discovered in 2012. They're a band that holds a profound influence on both my music taste and creative influence. They're a band that I believe truly perfected the "electronicore" sound of the late 2000s/early 2010s; whose influence draws from sectors all over the electronica scene, including the sonic sounds from the Detroit dance community. They're a band that started ...

Let's go back to perhaps the greatest flash phenomenon of early 2000s internet history. Let's go back to the old days of the internet; when becoming full-time online entertainer was beyond farfetched, and the best options we had were on Flash Player and FunnyJunk. Let's talk about a true pioneering site in online entertainment, originated by two dudes from Georgia who just started animating as ...
WHAT MADE SEALAB 2021 A GROUNDBREAKING SHOW FOR ADULT ANIMATION?
มุมมอง 1.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Sealab 2021 was a show I discovered as a 9-year-old kid one late night watching Adult Swim with my brothers. It was perhaps the weirdest show I'd ever seen (I didn't even know it was a real show) and most of the jokes flew right over my head, yet it still made me laugh my ass off. Let's dive back into one of my favorite pieces of adult animation from the early 2000s! AYO FINALLY A NEW VID ON AN...

WHY PUNK NEEDS NO PRESSURE
มุมมอง 22Kปีที่แล้ว
🚨 CALLING ALL PUNK FANS 🚨 No Pressure is a band I discovered in the midst of the pandemic, sitting in my Uptown Chicago apartment August 2020. A band that breathed new life into what we call pop-punk, skate-punk, whatever you want to call it. In a time where we all needed even the tiniest shred of hope, I'd always hung on to the hope of getting to see this band live, and little did I know I'd g...

i feel i might like state champs if i were 12 and immune to cheesy songwriting. except elevated that's a tune.

is that like a lofi/chiptune version of featuring mark hoppus in the background
Good ear ;) check out Less Gravity! Lofi producer who does incredible work!
May not like punk but I def love new aesthetic!

wow dude crazy i was at that very same exact 2014 Chitown warped tour although me and my friends are not from the city i actually did not see them play live and didn't discover them until maybe a year or two later i love the idea of harcore influences in pop punk and you can feel that in their early instrumentals kinda surprising that didn't become the norm for the 2010s
One of the most consistent bands i listen to since they started
OH THIS MAN CRANKS HARD AS FUCK!!

😭 appreciate you!!
9:47 they straight up recorded the theme song in the car ride to the studio.
Did they really??
Oh man, what a rad video! Thanks for the rad content! Glad to see someone who saw "super bowl" and it stuck with them forever.
Glad you enjoyed it dude!!! Really appreciate you watching 👏 haha yessir Super Bowl was always the episode that stuck out to me!
I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.
That’s so sweet… you’re trying to say that you love me, Carl!
Anyone think Aqu Teen is like a monster of the week?
We moshed to anything and everything in the 90's
I was 100% about it when you mentioned Stimutacs as the best episode ever, because it objectively is. I've seen that episode probably actually over a hundred times. It's truly Sealab 2021's magnum opus. Then you mentioned TinFins, which is a perfect representation of how the same show can suck algae.

Aqua teen hunger force pioneered adult animation, paving the way for smiling friends to come along and revolutionize and perfect it!
YO ERIC appreciate the reminder to watch Smiling Friends! My brothers just rec’d it to me the other day; hear it’s amazing!
That's why I love bands who have multiple varieties of sounds like Turnover, Citizen, The Story So Far, Title Fight, Trophy Eyes, Boston Manor and Trash Boat. These bands I know for sure love hardcore when they were young but eventually, everyone will grow up and changed. I know some people hate these bands for shifting sounds but at the end of the day, we can't really blame them for changing.
Amen brotha 👏
I love most of those bands, but to say turnover or citizen or title fight have a giant change in sound is a stretch. Damn we went from emocore to emoindie. HOW INNOVATIVE. I seriously had to go back in their discography(s) to remember. All bands develop and change sound to a degree and as someone who loves Turnover I see your point. But ALL of these dudes stayed in their 4/5 piece rock roots. It's not like one of them is making fucking R and B or country music.
@@TheBagel45 I didn't say that they made a "giant change" to their sound. I said that they have multiple varieties of sounds. For example, Title Fight compilation album sounded more like a melodic hardcore fuse with pop punk and post-hardcore. Then, Shed was more like a pop punk album than melodic hardcore. They even had slower and soft sounded songs like Safe In Your Skin and Where Am I. And then their third record, Floral Green, still sounded like a pop punk album mixed with shoegaze sound like Head In The Ceiling Fan, Lefty and In-Between. Lastly, Hyperview is a shoegaze album but still had fast tracks like Mrahc and Rose of Sharon. You can see the changes throughout the years. They have varieties of sounds like pop punk, melodic hardcore, post harcore and shoegaze. That's what I meant when I say they shift or changed their sound.
HELL YEAH FIRST COMMENT LETS GO! THIS VID RIPS DAWG!
NISH THE GOAT 🔥 thank you man!!! Gonna try to make it out to y’all’s next show in October
also ty for the shoutout at the end, LOVE U DAWG!

Goddamn right 😤
state Champs being from NY and tssf being from cali has me crossed up
They bring back the OG blink era,
The thumbnail just happens to be my favorite two singers and bands in this genre! I'm beyond calling the story so far just a pop punk band though. They transcended that base title from the 3rd album onward.
Really good video man! Subbed 👊
LFG 👊 thank you Brandon!!!
I like your booty but I’m not gay (not gay).
knuckle puck is criminally underrated
Love ‘em 🤘
Love your profile pic btw - Turnover is my next vid ;D
Tssf, knuckle puck, and state champs need to tour together. It would be one of the most legendary tours
Love both tssf and SC. I think they definitely represent the spectrum of the genre, they’re both bands that have matured with their audiences. It’s kinda mashed potatoes and fries I guess
Oooo I like that! Great way to put it!
@@JawncoreILyeah I have to admit I’m biased toward SC as I’ve met them a couple times and even worked with pure noise to clear Perfect Score for a student filming did but definitely love both. Really love the video we need more content like this on the platform
i broadly enjoy both sides and this is the first time ive heard it broken down like this. makes sense! if this is an indication of what your channel is like im gonna be a consistent subscriber:)
Yessss 100% good call out! I want to write more videos like this that dive into the nuances of the scene that go relatively unnoticed. There’s so much to extrapolate!
@@JawncoreIL i never heard that wave referred to as “nu pop punk” but it makes so much sense haha. if theres a new wave of it now or approaching, what do we label that?
Love both bands! But would have to pick tssf over state champs. Great video and editing man! 🤘
Same here 👌 thank you dude!!! Appreciate you!!!
