2022 Acura MDX Problems - Watch Before You Buy!!
มุมมอง 109K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Update 28 Nov 2022: Now that it's getting cold again, I am starting to get a lot of comments and messages from people having the same or similar problems with their 2022 and 2023 MDXs, mainly with their infotainment system. Will be interesting to see how many people have problems through the winter. I'm guessing that some poor schmo was likely re-sold our lemon MDX here in Ottawa, Canada. It on...
We bought a certified pre owned 2022 mdx. The dealer sold us the car in November of 2023 without having the title (illegal) and we couldn’t get it registered or get a new dealer tag so we actually didn’t start driving the car until February of this year. Bought a new house with an incline drive way. It rained a lot that week. Got in the car to take my son to school and the info system wouldn’t work. Then I heard water gushing. Went home and checked the car. The trunk was flooded! Service dept says the sunroof drain was pinched at assembly by the side passenger air bag. So far they are refusing to fix it under warranty. I have several calls in for escalation. Fingers crossed!
That's insane!! Sorry to hear that.. Another fine example of Honda / Acura not honoring their warranty. They've paid out class action lawsuits for it and are still doing it. Seems to be an ingrained culture in the company. Corporate Honda / Acura says no to legitimate warranty claims, which then puts the dealer in the middle, and of course they don't want to pay for them out of pocket. And the painful irony is that a lot of people buy these cars based on Honda / Acura's "reputation for quality", which couldn't be further from the truth these days.
Posted before. Now keyless entry won't work as well as select dash board lights. Do not buy.
So disappointed in my brand new 2024 mdx. Such junk. Front end vibration since new that dealer can’t fix. So many creaks and rattles it sounds like a 10 year old car. Speakers rattle, doors rattle, sunroof creaks, dash creaks. Can feel vibration in floor and pedals on most roads and when gears shifting. Hate it. Loved my 2013 TL so got another Acura. What a mistake. I’ll never buy from this brand again. Would not recommend.
Sorry to hear that, that's brutal!! For me the dealer experience was also very bad. One of the worst dealers in my city. Lied to us from the start. Didn't care about fixing anything, blamed Acura, Acura blamed them. And didn't even want to give us a rental on our 1 day old brand new, broken down MDX. After pushing back, they got us a dirty little Mitsubishi car with 40,000 miles and bald original all season tires in the middle of snowy, icy winter in Canada, to haul our kids around in. It was insane.
What year was this made ?
No programming features?
I was very close to buying the 2025 MDX type s. Now not so sure. Do you know if the problem has been resolved in the 2025 model year ?
@michaelsdadj33 I'm not sure - I know they revamped the infotainment screen etc for 2025, so I sure would hope they've finally fixed the control module that's causing this problem. They've had this problem from 2019 to 2024 in the RDX and MDX. It's well known to them, but they never fixed it despite many disgruntled customers and a class action lawsuit settlement for RDX owners.
Bought ours Oct 21, it has been flawless ever since, just came back from a 10400 kms road trip from Toronto to Vancouver BC ( Canada ) very impressive to drive 👍
Great to hear. Yes they aren't all faulty, probably a small percentage. We would have liked to have bought one but we're kind of scared off of the brand now.
So did they ever find out the exact issue & did they resolve the problem or did you give the car back ???
Nope. To my knowledge, a fix for this issue has never been made by Acura/Honda, so there are many RDX and MDX on the road with this issue. (Which you will see in many comments from owners just here on my video alone.) - They have changed the infotainment in the MDX for 2025, so it's possible they may have fixed it for 2025, we'll see. - Acura Canada told us it was a "known issue with no fix", and told us we could return the car for a refund if we wanted. I asked them for the refund and the tax benefit ($3200) from my trade-in, which they and the dealer agreed to. The dealer held up their end and gave us $2000 of the $3200. After returning the car, Acura Canada reneged on their written agreement with us, and stiffed us the $1200 they said they would give us. - So in the end, we lost $1,200 by returning the car. We then bought a 2022 VW Atlas and were just happy to be rid of the MDX lemon and to get away from Honda/Acura.
Wow what a mess !! I'm going with the Highlander , no known issues with anything ! Thanks for the comeback ! Sorry for the issues ! Hope your new ride treats yas better
@@johnbart8454 Thanks and yes the Highlanders are excellent quality. We're probably going back to Cadillac next which are right up there with Toyota and Lexus in the quality ratings. We had a 2017 Cadillac XT5 for 5 years and had literally zero issues, never had to go back to the dealer for a single issue. I like Toyota/Lexus for the quality reputation, but my wife doesn't like their styling and they don't typically offer very good financing.
Im soo grateful to see this because I was in the market for an acura mdx tech package and saw this video doing my research. I couldnt believe this was an issue and they refused to do a recall or resolve. Shameful behavior from them as a company. I wont be buying any of their iterations moving forward. Please keep this up and lets keep others warned
Does the AC work good on this car ?
Yasss Dire Straits ❣️🥰
I am having issues with my MDX 2023! This is ridiculous because I am paying 810$ monthly
@leidycastillo7068 sorry to hear, I've heard this regularly from new owners - Acura / Honda has never fixed this issue. I see they finally changed the infotainment for 2025 though, I'm curious to see if it will finally fix this issue.
did u get all your money back I had from with my tlx and Rdx with apple car play just got the new mdx today hope I don't run in to this cause ill be done with them
2022 Honda Ridgeline. I just got rid of because similar issues. Just kept dying for no reason
This is unfortunate, I'm sorry to all the owners who had to deal with this. After 3 years with my first MDX, I lucked out and had no issues with my A-spec model, recently upgraded to to an Advance for less than I started with my A-spec lease, I'll keep an eye out for this stuff, hopefully these issues are ironed out completely, as I love how this thing drives.
It happens with all manufacturers bad lemon
I am having this issue now too. My vehicle has been in repair shop for over 30 days… 😢
sorry to hear, that's infuriating! It's crazy to me that Honda/Acura refuse to fix this.
These are great players 👍🏻
Did they exchange your lemon? If not did you keep or trade? We are looking to sell our 22 while it's under warranty cause we don't trust it. Imagine the cost after warranty of owning one of these.
Bit of a long story but here it is - Acura Canada told us to return or exchange it. The dealer first tried to get us to exchange but we refused. Then wanted to give our trade-in back but we refused. Then said they'd take it back - but the sticking point was that we'd saved $3200 tax with the trade in, which I asked for in addition to the purchase price. The dealer offered $2000 max. Acura Canada said they'd chip in the extra $1200 so we agreed. Then Acura Canada asked us to take all our social media comments/video down and sign a ridiculous illegal non-disclosure agreement in exchange. We asked to edit it to make it legal (and more fair), but they outright refused. So we walked away, didn't sign it and didn't get the extra $1200 they promised. So ultimately we returned the MDX for a $1200 loss and bought a 2022 VW Atlas Execline R-Line which has been great for 50,000 miles in the last 2 years. In a couple more years, we'll probably look at going to Lexus or back to Cadillac next. Honda/Acura - never again unless I feel like throwing money and my sanity away.
Dealer said to disregard a dash notice that says warming to charge battery or similiar. Just means something isn't working as the CAR thinks it should. Said only bring in if a notice says bring to dealer.
This is exactly what I find infuriating about Acura - they seem to have a well documented track record of ignoring warranty issues and leaving customers with broken cars that are still under warranty.
Hate our 2023 MDX. Nothing but problems.
This is a 22, not 23.
We have a 2022 and have had rubber door seals replaced, sunroof switch replaced, steering column replaced, front brake issue, rear wiper comes on and won't turn off, replaced battery and now we are having dash light problems. Hate this car.
To add, when we put the car in drive or park there was a brief grinding noise. They said it's normal so I had them pull another new MDX up next to it and guess what, no noise from it. They said it's probably there and it will get louder. Crazy. I insisted it be fixed and it was a brake issue after all. At first they said it was gravel in the brake plate which they said is a known defect. It wasn't gravel.
That is some god-awful service from the brand as well as the dealership! I’m going to need to read the comments on this video before going ahead with my order today. If this is a common issue, I don’t want one! I live in northern Canada and my vehicles are parked outdoors year-round.
That's a tough call... I do believe that 8-9 / 10 of these don't have the issue - seems to be random. But also know that Honda/Acura is choosing not to fix the problem and is still making them defective. That's the worst thing - Honda/Acura has a longstanding track record of not rectifying well known warranty issues like this and leaving customers with broken cars. I realize I'm biased - but also with the fuel efficiency and technology being way worse than every other brand, I would consider looking at alternatives. Another big variable is your dealer - if you have a good dealer then that can make a huge difference in the experience. We definitely have a bad dealer that continually lied and made promises they couldn't keep.
@@stonecoldcustoms we have always owned Toyota’s and the last vehicle was a 2022 Lexus RX350. It’s been an excellent vehicle and my wife will keep it as her daily driver. I on the other hand liked the style and turbo of the MDX Type S. I didn’t realize the brand had gone downhill the way it has. I used to love the Hondas of the 80’s…. they went forever!
@beri232 agreed, 90s, 2000s Honda/Acuras were bulletproof but they've really gone downhill in quality in the last 10-15 years. I had a 2006 Acura RSX that I loved. Seems that they are struggling with implementing new infotainment systems and that's what much of their problems have been related to. Honda/Acura are a big step down in quality from Toyota/Acura imo. But I do agree also that the MDX Type S is unique in the segment and a pretty attractive package. As long as it works, lol.. In addition to the screen issues persisting, I have seen quite a few people complaining of brake problems in those - not sure if they've addressed that yet or if they were isolated problems.
@@stonecoldcustoms I think I’m going to cancel my deposit and stick with Lexus. It’s boring but damn it’s comfy and dependable.
@@beri232 I actually sent my wife to test a RX350 before the MDX - that's what I would have bought based on what she wanted.. But she didn't like the Lexus and that's how we ended up with the MDX and in this mess, lol.. We ended up getting a VW Atlas because we just needed a vehicle for our kids. It's been fine but also very boring to drive, no character. We'll probably go back to Cadillac next. Our 2017 XT5 was problem free and was nice to drive. Kind of waiting to see if they redesign the XT5/XT6. Lexus has done a redesign plus added the larger Grand Highlander model but they're still kind of boring.
Dam electronics...
Hi , Name DAC ?
Any feedback I'm Having a similar issue with my 2022 MDX it's currently at the dealer for the past 4 days now with issue with battery drain issue mentioned their infotainment system to them not always shutting off when u turn the car off and they later came back saying their is an issue with the gauge control module that controls all of that and they are gonna change that now they called today saying they need to program the miles back to the car cause it's at 0 miles I'm just afraid of sticking with a car with problems this early into buying the car should I contact a lemon law lawyer ?
Yes - my advice is to start the lemon law process. You shouldn't need a lawyer but it might make it easier for you. If they cannot fix the same problem after 3 tries, then they are legally required to offer you a replacement vehicle or to buy the vehicle back from you. Honda/Acura still do not have a fix for this issue.
can this unit record the movie on Tv?
I’m a 2018 mdx owner & here we are w/ a massive recall & NO FIX! I contacted my dealership only to be told that there’s no fix & wait 30-60 days to be notified when one becomes available! My 1st Acura & now I question whether to keep it or not. 🤦♀️
Sorry to hear! It's so strange - this is the only car manufacturer I've ever heard say "this is a known problem and there's no fix".. It would be very difficult for me to ever buy a Honda/Acura product again. I consulted some engineering firms and their unanimous opinion was that Honda/Acura is extremely lacking in their software engineering capability. So this is why they are so late to market with infotainment technology, and why they are unable to fix software problems, or choose not to. There are quite a few problems going on for years that they just don't bother to fix - or can't.
Agreed! 💯 I go to the dealership tomorrow for regular maintenance so maybe they’ll tell me something then! 🤷♀️🤦♀️
You ever get that Acura fixed?
No it was a real dog's breakfast.
Acura = junk. They are also cutting down on frame rigidity too.
It sounds like your dealer failed to hire actual Acura certified technicians.
My guess is that they knew they couldn't fix it, but were stalling us hoping the problem would stop happening with warmer weather. If we hadn't bought the car in the middle of winter, we wouldn't have known about the problem until the next winter.
Thank you so much for sharing, I almost bought an Acura, but Not anymore
I have exactly the same year and model and no issues at all. It looks like as any other car maker you have the bad Apple of the bunch. Now I’m looking forward to get the type S
Acura tech here, this issue has only be found with cars that live in colder states where it snows most of the year. Your average climate drivers will almost never have this issue. Although I can think of a million other reasons not to buy an Acura. BMW is a better option if you want a luxury Car/SUV
This is why you see many of them for resale. Too many issues for a premium vehicle.
Parts shortages are the major problems.
It’s a peace of s H 😮 T
I’m new to Acura and I have the 2022 MDX A Spec and my A/C never blows enough cold air was told the new Freon runs hotter I know that’s a lie since my brother has a 2022 Tahoe and it blow’s extremely cold air. I will never own a Acura again 60k down the drain
I am picking my MDX tomorrow after seeing this video I changed my mind 😮
They ruined Acura reliability with those AI features. Assholes.
I am in talks with a dealer to purchase an MDX now. I prayed about the situation in asking God if it was the right move-I now have my answer. Thank you for sharing your story. It’s a blessing that you and your wife were able to return the vehicle and receive your refund.
To cap it off, we returned it for a $1,200 loss from our trade in tax savings, which the dealer refused to reimburse. While negotiating with Acura, they agreed to pay the $1,200, in exchange for me taking this video down. Then, they sent us a ridiculously illegal non-disclosure agreement that make us infinitely liable to Acura for damages. They refused to edit it to make it legal, so we refused to sign it, and they didn't give us our $1,200 as promised. I'll never buy another Honda/Acura product as long as I live. Best of luck with your decision! Despite the market being flooded with CUVs/SUVs, there really aren't a lot of good options at this size and price point.
@@stonecoldcustomsWhat did you end up buying?
@@ryanb8736 we ended up buying a 2022 VW Atlas R-Line. It's been fine, great vehicle for kids due to its large size. Have had a few annoying sensor issues and an injector issue that we've had to wait for months for parts for. Multiple dealer visits for each issue, but not show stoppers 35,000 miles on it now. Looking at buying a Cadillac next. Would prefer a Toyota or Lexus but my wife hates them, too old, too boring.
Rlly happy you kept the video up, you're protecting ppl! I wish you and your family all the best in the future!
I had a 2008 acura mdx drove it up to 210k miles then had a 2021 Acura mdx drove it up to 95k then bought a 2023 type s …never had a battery drain issue but only issue I got is the staff at the dealership where horrible …
pos cars not even a good car to be chauffeured in or on roadtrips
I never buy another MDX again. My 2017 keep having electrical problem.😢
usually 1st year models have issues, i want a MDX but I am waiting out the first 2 years to see what issues are happening more often and how serious they can be. MDX-Type S, when tested by youtuber Savage geese, the automatic-transmition had issues shifting during hard turn when the SH-AWD drive system engages. i am actually looking to purchase an advance or A-spec used. any advice would be appreciated
Hopefully Canada has lemon laws, like we do in the US. Still a unneeded hassle by ACURA and the dealership.
All acuras are lemons. I was stupid enough to buy a new Acura ILX late last year and it’s by far the worst car I ever had. All Acuras are total junk. Boycott Acura (and Honda too). You’re lucky. You got your junk Acura back after a week. They kept mine for months. Acura needs to be shut down, liquidated, and with all their fraudulent earnings distributed to their victims. I’ve never hated my car until I got an Acura. STAY AWAY FROM ACURA. It’s the worst car ever.
They also sold mdx from model years 2007- 2009 knowing about the battery draining, if you having this problem on these model years just unplug the hands free Link module located on the back of the arm rest you'll need to sit in the middle section of your back seat the module is black about 1/2" inch thick by about 4"x 2.5" unplug and that should solve the problem ...
I had the same thing happen to my 2018 TLX. If my car sat for a few days it would die. It needs a software update from corporate. Until then the battery will always die.
Good thing I'm in Texas, sucks for u northerners ha
