These are Richie's lead parts, and although Phil X tries to replicate as much as possible, out of respect to RS, he cannot be as good, just like no covers band player can ever sound like the original. That said, if RS ever came back to the band, and tried to play Phil X's parts from the past 10 years studio recordings, they too would NOT be the same. Just like RS could not replicate in 1991+ exactly what Jeff Beck did on Blaze of Glory in 1990, but did his own version of those solos...each player has their own style, speed, so let's not compare and accept that since Richie CHOSE to leave the band, and Phil X has been an excellent, loyal and hard working replacement! 🙂

Richie Sambota is the best

This is kinda like Blackmore vs Morse but to a lesser extent. Phil X and Steve Morse are exceptional musicians but Blackmore and Sambora are Rockstars!

Can’t compare the two! Ritchie was the Soul behind BJ music! Dude wrote all those guitar parts. Dudes got so much feel!!! Ritchie hands down!!!

Phil X is so professional that he can respect or destroy any solo! For some reason they pick him to replace sambora!

But, the ends of Keep the Faith and Always at Wembley are just on a different level and Phil (or anyone) doesn't really stand a chance of nailing them.

Yeah, look, Phil can play guitar, we get it, but this is poor. Richie frequently changes up parts of his solos, he can and lots of guitar players do in songs they're playing night after night for 20/30 years, but Phil isn't doing that, he's sort of doing the solos correctly in parts but he needs to do more and be more accurate and true to the songs. He's trashing them.

I was going to say Phil X all day long but Richie did come up with the original parts and I do like his pinch harmonics . JBJ can't sing anymore and Phil ends up carrying him

Phil X could not replace Rik Emmett in Triumph and he certainly isn't the rank of Richie Sambora on guitar and vocals in Bon Jovi.

I don't like Phil's tone. Richie has a rounder warmer tone. Phil also has a more robotic feel . He's technically awesome, I'm just talking the feel/attack . If you want to feel the music, I choose Richie. If you are making video games, go with Phil. Richie also gets bonus points for co/writing most of Bon Jovi's hits. Phil is a session guy that doesn't really write good songs. Jon doesn't ever want to write with him. This sounds like I'm knocking Phil. I'm not. I just prefer Richie as far as tone, writing skills, vocals. They both play a mean guitar. Phil seems like a really cool dude. Over the years, Richie just rubs me the wrong way. He's nice for the most part, but talks sloppy. He always seems like he's been drinking.

sambora is much more explosive emotional powerful and not controller fascinating.philx is a good guitar player but makes JBJ already sometimes bring more boring and too soft.love richie sambora.forget JBJ without him!

No one can truly replace Richie in Bon Jovi. He's a really good blues/rock player but his vocals and his rapport with Jon onstage are what sets him apart. Richie with Jon is the magic we are all missing; vocally, onstage and more importantly imo, the songwriting. Phil can sing well but not like Richie. However Phil is a much better player, hands down(you can't go by what you see in this video) That said, he has always been so respectful of Richie and his accomplishments with Bon Jovi. Check out his commentary in the recent documentary. He's a very cool, humble guy. He knows what his job is in BJ and does it like the pro he is.

Richie makes love to his guitar and Phil is very mechanical. Richie all the way. IMO

Both are great guitar players, but Sambora has something very different. The sound that Richie can give , it's powefull and magnificient. Sambora's feeling is awesome.

Both great players in their own right. Unfair to compare the man who “composed” all these solos to the man who recreates them so well. Respect to both.

Phil’s a great player in his own write … but it’s not Richie or even Richie’s style… if 85/90% of the set is the classics then Jon should have got a Richie alike player someone that maybe more of a die hard fan …? It just doesn’t sound the same man… just listen the always outro solo on both it’s worlds apart

One can argue that Phil is technically a much better player. But Sambora does have that feel, THAT voice and the swagger that just cannot be replaced. By anybody. And I am saying that being Phil X fan. PS. my favourite tone from Richie is on These Days. To me it is one of the best rock tones I have ever heard.

What everyone needs to remember is Mr. Sambora wrote and co wrote most of these songs came up with the riffs and played them. Bon Jovi is not the same band without him, Sorry but just being honest here.

Is not that Phil X is a bad guitar player, the difference is that Richie has an unique style of playing that you can recognize him, but still Phil has a lot of respect for that and you can see it , neverthless he is great

Richie is in a league of his own to start with. So, anyone being compared to him is really unfair. Phil X does a fine job filling in for Richie. He's playing it safe though.

95 live from London i had that on VHS. Richie and Tico just killed it the whole show. They rocked hard

Richie Sambora was multi talented both as a guitarist and singer. He was also the personality of Bon Jovi. Since he left i think the song writing suffered. I don’t think Jon gave him the credit he deserved.
