Day 3 FX-4CR test- another failure
มุมมอง 5812 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can maximise the signal to noise ration and quieten the RX on both radios as the noise between signals is terrible. Also filters need to be the same, cant see the point in setting to factory default. Both rigs need to be set for best reception, which of course means you need to learn both over a period of time. It then means you need to squeeze the best performance out of each and then A/B them. Setting the AF gain the same is not the same as setting the audio levels the same as they have different audio stages. If you want see how to do this sort of test perhaps watch Bob Naggy.😏
The cutting-out of the audio when you set the RF gain to a high value happens because Icom combines the RF gain function with the squelch function on one knob.
I have a FTDX101MP, I'm thinking of get one of these 7760's what are your thoughts?
@@thomashenderson603 I am partial to Icom, I hear good things about the MP but I like the Icom settings/menu interface. I also like that you can “hide” the RF deck. Today we sold 2 IC-7760s, they are a hit over here
@ Thank you for getting back to me. Would you know if connecting to a pc for FT8, do you connect the usb cable to the console or the deck? I started with a icom 7300 and would agree on the menus. I like that the 7760 can do 200 watts 100% duty cycle and you can have the deck off the desk. Tom K1cxs
@@thomashenderson603that’s a good question, I think it’s off of the console but will confirm next day that I work at HRO. You’re free to call me at the shop if you like. 73 de W1SRR
@@W1SRR I give them a call, I have been working with Salem HRO on a trade with the FTDX101MP. They have been realy good. 73's Tom K1CXS
Thank you for your comparison. It would be even greater if we could see the radio screen without glare from the lights.
@@SergioSilva100 sorry, this is at the store during store hours. I cannot adjust the lighting for this video
IC-7610 seems quieter then IC-7760. But also stations are quieter too on IC-7610
@@losradiofanatik I find that right out of the box the 7760 has better filtering and nicer/richer audio.
My question is how well does the RF gain work ? If you roll back the RF control can you quite down the rig ? Or is it same as 7300 and presumably 7610 mostly useless ? Has icom overcome that shortcoming ? My 7300 is a easy to live with for the most part only the att and rf gain control are very very poor and a big disappointment . Has icom fixed this with this new model?
Not sure but if I get some downtime I'll check it out
@W1SRR thanks that's great .
Would be great to hear side by side on a weak ssb signal.
i want ssb. cw is for xiegu and qrp only :-D
The 7760 is a great rig for SSB, as well as other modes like CW & Data
Filtering sounds different
The test was done with both rigs reset to factory defaults. The IC-7760 has better filters, otherwise they are operating as they would be out the box and before operator preferences
I came up with a good way to compare two radios when one of them is a IC-7760. What I do is route the test antenna into the RX-ANT IN jack and then connect the RX-ANT OUT jack to the radio to run the comparison against. (I make sure to turn the power all the way down and disconnect the mike to avoid any unintended transmissions). Then you can jiggle the AF GAIN as desired to A/B test. I have a mixer, so I took the AF out from both rigs and put one on the left channel and the other on the right. I don't have a IC-7610, so I compared to an IC-7300. And yes, the IC-7760 sounds a little better than a IC-7300.
@@jamiefayefenton thanks for sharing! Good idea 👍
would you know how this would compare to the FTDX101MP?
not sure. people love the way the 101 sounds.
Are you looking to add to your Shack

hi can you do the same thing for ssb on receiving plssss!!! try to do it in a low station plss
Тhanks for the work !
You have NR NB enabled on 7760 and disabled on 7610. And of course it 's better to listen to CW in CW rather than usb ) . Thanks for the work! We will be waiting for new videos.

Is that background noise from base unit fans? Ok, the real question is: how loud the fans are?
that noise is from the other equipment on the showroom
Do you hear clapping in the cw from a powerful station that stands nearby? 500-600 Hz . Make a comparison with 7610 reception . For God 's sake, don't turn on NR and NB )))

I posted a new video 🫡
Show how the RF regulator works!?? The same as in 7610 ? Do the S-meter readings change when adjusting the RF knob? Is there any noise in the speaker when the RF knob is turned counterclockwise to the minimum?
not sure, I'll check it out when I have some downtime
I have tried this on my FT-710, no go I add it, then go to VFO mode, it keeps wanting on transmit on 5.355.5. Because the 710 will not transmit FT8 in memory mode. I am lost as to how people do it. 73 N1PHR
@@_N1PHR_ not sure how to do it with the FT-710. Perhaps check your filters and make sure your not on split
Try weak signals close to a strong signal.......
Very cool. I'm especially interested in how you feed receive performs versus the 7610 and other competitive radios
I find that I really enjoyed the receive audio and it helps that it has better filtration than the 7610.
@ oh, nice! Good to hear the extra filters make a difference!
Awesome Video Mike !! Happy New Year Brother !!!
@@johnmagee2394 Thanks John! 73 and happy new year
Watched it from beginning to end Mike. If it weren't for this video, I wouldn't have known, you could actually walk that close to Lake Jessup without seeing a single gator! Hell, I work at MCO and right behind the building I work in, there's a pond with a sign warning people no to disturb the wildlife; i.e., snakes and gators. I've seen the gators, not the snakes, yet... And when we have driven across the bridge on the 417th, we've seen them down there on the lake 👀.

I received myFX4CR 3 weeks ago..I have done 4 activations with the FX4 and it has performed exceptionally well on both SSB and CW.. I get great reports on the audio quality..don’t give up, sounds like you just need to send it back to Yu..when it works, it really is an exceptional radio. I have a Flex6500, an IC705, and the FX4CR..This radio is definitely NOT a Yugo!
@@paulwhite626 I agree it’s not a Yugo, perhaps my particular unit is at fault? Anywho I sent it back for a refund. Shame as I really like the unit for its size and weight. @@W1SRR Sorry that your unit is not up to snuff. It really is a great little radio. I no longer take m,y IC705 out. The FX4CR has become my POTA radio!..good luck!

I have the same issue with the delay and also with the clicking during TX (the meter does not show any consistency during voice tx). I've had some reports that audio is fine and some that I sound like I'm off frequency, and even some saying they just hear clicking and popping. I have a second mic that I'm trying now.
I think its more likely comparing a Chevy to a Yugo. Hopefully you get it resolved
That sounds like the AGC delay...should be a change of a setting to fix that. I have not had to play with that though, as my unit does not have that delay. I know you made your mind up already, but the better comparison is the FX-4CR vs. the Xiegu G90 from a price perspective. What do you get for the money, is the question I usually ask. I do not have a 705 so I can't say myself...but I do own both a g90 and an FX-4CR for less than the 705 sells for on sale. For portable ops, size and weight, the FX-4CR is hard to beat in my opinion. Thanks for sharing! Cheers and 73 de W3LAM
@@CigarsOnTheAir the seller asked me to do a firmware update (although it has the latest version). My issue is that my computers cannot recognize the rig. Will try the update tomorrow
Definitely sounded like an AGC hanging issue. Also I noticed when you touched your coax when hooked to the analyzer it was changing your SWR that's a good sign you need a choke or better choke before the radio that could be letting RF get into the radio. Love the FX4CR by the way.
You have WAY too much delay on the AGC for the FX-4CR.
@@davidgilbert6 came from the factory like that, I would think the manufacturer would have the right ready to use.
AGC?
@@ghostmandka5498 I packaged it up and waiting on the seller’s instructions to ship it back. Made up my mind, and not deal with this one as it has issues.
Have you tried another mic? I can send you on to test with if you need.
I have not tried another mic.
I have had trouble with my new FX4CR, too. I assumed it was the mic causing a problem because I got a report during an activation, after calling for a while and getting no contacts, that all that could be heard was popping. I've also heard that this radio has trouble with RFI and end feds. I'm not sure of that. I have to do some more troubleshooting. I want to like the radio but as of now, I don't trust it and it makes me glad I've got my 705.
it helps if you connect power to the radio and an antenna LOL oh and don't forget to push the PWR button.
@@BryanDaniel42 funny 😆
No idea what you’re doing wrong given that at the time of recording you weren’t aware of how to tune down to kHz level I’d say send it back Today I activated two Great Britain parks for their first activation with my fx4cr 12 contacts in 25 minutes including two into Canada and one Indonesia 12,200 kilometers away And the other park 41 contacts in just over an hour including USA So there’s definitely something wrong there. I’d love an Icom ic705 but I’d never be without the fx4cr. Out of curiosity where did you buy yours from?

When cross moding to DMR, does it have to be a talk group or can you simplex to DMR radios and/or DMR Repeaters?
You will not be able to simplex from d-star to dmr, or use a dmr repeater for that matter.
