How Justin Moore Reinvented His Career After a Crushing Failure
This week, I talk with Justin Moore-founder and CEO of Creator Wizard, longtime TH-camr, and entrepreneur who’s spent more than 15 years navigating the creator economy. But this conversation isn’t just about business. It’s about the tension between entrepreneurship and family life, the ups and downs of building something meaningful, and the resilience required to start over after failure. Justin shares how he and his wife, April, built a thriving business on TH-cam, only to face a major setback when his agency collapsed during the pandemic. We talk about the lessons he’s learned, how he’s doing things differently now, and why his ultimate goal has always been to support his family. This is a deeply human story of commitment, reinvention, and making work matter. I think you’re going to find a lot to relate to in this one. Let’s get to it!
In this episode:
(00:00) - Intro
(03:22) - How Justin ended up in a metal band
(06:18) - Music as an escape
(12:47) - Starting a TH-cam channel

(37:43) - Gender roles and family dynamics
(41:57) - Dealing with judgmental people
(44:48) - Life as a content creator
(46:20) - The importance of family time
(52:06) - Reflecting on parenting choices
(56:21) - Adapting to new environments
(01:03:57) - How Justin built a business from scratch
(01:10:38) - The moment Justin decided to shut down his business

Thanks for listening, Aatik! This is a great question and you may not be surprised that the answer would be long and winding. The “how” consists of all of the accumulated knowledge Andy has built (and now I’ve begun to build). The hundred+ coaching books he’s read. The training programs he’s attended. The many many clients he’s worked with that have allowed him to test different methods of coaching and facilitation. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that most often the how adapts to the client as opposed to the client adapting to our how. The best training program I’ve taken so far is one Andy recommended to me - it’s PresenceBasedCoaching.com

I recently have started my coaching practice, taking the leap to start something on my own and trying to learn from other coaches who have done great work, like you both. I really appreciate you both for making this happen. Looking forward to digging into the curriculum! One question, that may just be too hard to answer, butr that I wish I had insight on, is the "how" behind Andy's facilitation, diving deeper into the process that you Barrett got to experience as one of his clients, would've been very fruitful I think.

Josh Kaufman phlosophy about 20hrs and in general a way of thinking, has helped me overcome a tutorial hell i was in for over a year with no practical results. After i accepted and adopted this way of thinking(about a week or 2 soaking it in), i had results i was looking for in just a few days. The difference is in a lack of a better word...huge, and thats just an understatement. Hope this comment helps someone trying to do something, but is strugling, especially if it involves studying, but this way of thinking sips in all areas of life.

In 2019 when Steph published blogs w/ 0 audience I wonder what she means specifically about distribution. For example, did she act as her own publicist and email people who might be interested linking the article?

    • @BarrettABrooks
      @BarrettABrooks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Great question, Derek. This is reminding me that I should keep my research notes from every episode (and maybe publish them). Steph would do things like: - create a launch plan for each essay - write platform specific content on every social platform for each essay - spend time sharing each essay on Hacker News, Indie Hackers, etc and then engage in the comments - send each essay to friends who might enjoy and share with their audiences - talk about the essays as a guest on podcasts Steph did interviews on Nathan Barry’s podcast and also on My First Million that covered this aspect of her work quite well. Hope that helps!

Good Work for sure. People will start guessing the two brands that doesn't go along with Josh. My predictions are Klon Centaur and Vertex Effects. Without Josh, people will forget about the stompbox and move to digital route. Personally as a drummer, I'm addicted to guitar pedals just because of him. Great questions and discussion, Barrett. I'm new to your channel by way of the JHS show. I resonated very much with Josh's story. I'm a physics teacher and kinda got bored after about 10 yrs. Then I started to mess with things and ask questions much like Josh did. In the end I created something that grew and changed but that was true to who I was and it carried me through a 35 yr career.
