How to recover a simple seat, border and decorative top stitch, our friends forklift seat upholster
มุมมอง 1.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s how we recovered a very badly worn forklift seat for our friend. A nice simple seat with a top panel and a border around the side. We added decorative top stitch which adds detail and also holds all the flange down in the same direction to aid when pulling it down. We used a heavy duty vinyl with high UV exposure rating as it sits outside most days and built up a comfy new inner by layer...

How to make a simple square box cushion cover with piping and hidden zip.

In this video we use techniques from previous videos to make a simple square shape box cushion with piping/ welt all around the top and bottom and a hidden zip with pocket at the end. The foam cushion inner is 10cm or 4 inches so we cut the border at the same thickness to ensure a nice tight fit. How to upholster a simple fabric covered square seat or stool top fixed to a board

      Hi and thanks for watching. It will be a bit more tricky sewing it together with a closed end zip but you should be ok. It will probably be easier to pin it together so you can see how it will all sit and then go over with the sewing machine after. You need to keep it inside out and open the zip so you can run around from one end to the other and then across to the other side to do the same and meet up at the starting point. I can't figure out why you cut out that little piece second from the top at 00:23. From what I can tell, you just connect it to the rest of the side panel and it doesn't make a difference except adding an extra seam. Can anyone explain?

    • @premierupholstery-upholste90
      @premierupholstery-upholste90 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much and thanks for watching. Prices vary quite a lot depending on different factors like where in the world you are and also local rent/ rates etc that need to be covered. Ideally you need to work out what you need to earn per hour and then price each job by how many hours it will take. This can be tricky to begin with if you’ve got limited experience but the more you do the better you’ll be able to estimate time involved in each piece. If you’re just starting out it is well worth finding a friendly local shop and asking if you can spend some time working with them for a bit to gain experience. Hope this helps.

      Thank you and thanks for watching. You could have a go on an old second hand chair and might surprise yourself enough to try it on your main set. That’s a best way to learn and you’ll realise after where you can make improvements for the next time.

    I seem to miss how the notches were made. Initially you folded the panel and made one notch in the center, later there was many notches when you transferred them to the opposing side of the border. Should there be centered notches on every side of the panels? Thank you so much for this awesome instruction video.

      Hi and thanks for watching. Yes make a centred notch on each side for your reference points. Mark them by folding and cutting with scissors or by making a mark with a pen or pencil and then using that. Best of luck with your project!

    Thank you, so much for sharing! Have always sewn piping on bias. This method is extremely easier, and faster, with the same quality.

      Thank you for watching! Yes it’s nice and easy and we do it this way most of the time, bias does have advantages some times though

    I decided to recover 6 dining chairs, having never upholstered anything before, I looked locally for a company and lucky for me I found Premier Upholstery company, they provided the foam I was also shown fabric off cuts which was a bargain and they even cut it to size, they explained how to fit and staple the materials to the base. After watching his video a few times I plucked up the courage and went for it, pausing the video a few times I finished all 6 chairs thanks to the guys, really pleased with myself, missus is chuffed too, looking forward to Valentines day and night😎🙂🙂
