Those cicadas are the same tone I hear 24 /7 😢Great review friend.
Haha, yea they're annoying. Thanks for watching
Nice review.
Thank you sir 🥃
That's cool as thinking of the ect thing after hearing about bad Mo barrels
BadMos are awesome, but these are definitely a cool little alternative 🥃
My dumbarse forgot to put the link to Mountain Brandy video for about 13 hrs. Forgive me, this southern heat is cooking my 🧠
Thanks for the review, I've been thinking about those 🤘
Thank you for your support bro. I'd definitely try them. For this style of barrel it's definitely a cool little option.
Save me a sip or two!
I will brother 🤛
temp swings will definitely have an affect. the glass and wood dont act the same when there are temperature changes, keeping them at a consistent temp will definitely help. thanks for the review sir! hope you get great results
Thank you sir. I've put it in a cooler place with steadier temps. All good now. Keep up the good work!
Thanks JC, I love those mason jar wooden tops.
Awesome! I don't know to many people that have used them. Trying to spread the word. They are cool. Thanks Gary 🥃
I agree, I bet it was the temp swings on the wet oak. It's gonna be tasty when it's done.
I know someone else that needs to fill one up ;)
@@FlatwoodsCellars I have a couple of the lids. If I ever make something to brag about I'll fill one
What is the profile of the wood such that it can seal against top edge and/or inside of the glass jar?
I guess the oak is half inch thick. It's turned on a lathe to set inside jar. The outer rim it screws down on is thin. Not much thicker than Mason jar lid. Hope that made sense. 🍻
@@FlatwoodsCellars Thanks, your explanation makes perfect sense.

I can always count on you brother 😁
Lol your style of gin is pretty similar to mine, juniper added kinda cause it just has to be there, citrus is where the magic is
Haha, pretty much. I do like juniper. In small doses, but yea Citrus is where it's at! 🥃
I'm with you, brother. My first setup was totally overpriced. I started with a 5 gallon carboy and a 6 gallon bucket. I put off making any homebrew since I was moving around a bit. Lost all my brew stuffs. Like you, I hit up my hardware store. I currently have 3 each of 2 gallon and 5 gallon buckets. So much cheaper to make your own and quite easy. I just started acquiring parts for a keezer. I hope to fill my corny kegs with all my homebrew. Love your no-nonsense approach and attitude. Love your vids. Keep'em comin." Sub'd.
Much appreciated! Glad to hear you getting back into brewing 🍻 A keezer would be awesome! I've been really into stouts lately, I'm seriously lacking on beer equipment but I'm slowly working on it.
@FlatwoodsCellars I do enjoy a good stout. I'm currently doing 4 gallons of mead and 4 gallons of hard cider. 2 gallons of that cider, I will be adding hops to. Happy brewing to ya, fine sir.
last year I made a lot of something similar, but this is at another level with adding the fruit.... I will defiantly be doing this up soon. Nice work man!!
Much appreciated! It really is the best of both worlds with the fruit and grains. Thanks for watching 🥃
@@FlatwoodsCellars You da man brother... Love your content
That looks good
Thanks BaD! It's good as is, but I can't wait to see what it's like on some oak
That sounds really good, thanks for the shout out brother!
Thanks for all your support nephew
Great recipe
@@ronaldwolk2706 thanks Ronald 🥃 appreciate you watching
This one is on my list
@@rogerwilkerson757 these split brandies should be right up you alley. Can you get a deal on apples or peaches there?
@@FlatwoodsCellars you would think so because this is the peach Capitol of Texas but nope. Peaches are super expensive. Occasionally can get deals of apples but most fruits are really high here
Sounds tasty! 👍👍
@@Mike.Howard thanks Mike 🥃 looking forward to aging some of it.
Great video, Great content, Another recipe added to my growing todo list...
@@terrybaldwin1182 thank you Terry 🥃 appreciate you watching.
Can't wait to meet you in a couple weeks brother.
@@rayfox212 Me too bro. I need to do inventory on our mash ingredients.
Hi. Can you please write the recipe again?
10 gallons of Apple Cider 12# of Apples 6# Panela sugar 3 cinnamon sticks, 1 oz vanilla, and half table spoon each of Nutmeg and allspice. Thanks for watching 🥃
ÇAN I PUT PINEAPPLE INTO A MASON JAR AND TOP IT OFF WITH BOTTLED RYE AND LET IN REST FOR 6 MONTHS ...KINDA LIKE MAKING CHERRY BOUNCE...? THANKYOU SIR !
Absolutely. I've never done it with Whiskey but I've used Pineapple that way on Brandy or neutral 🥃
What is simple syrup and how is it made?
It's just a sugar water mixture for Cocktails. Usually 1:1 ratio. "One cup sugar to one cup water"
That's what I thought it was Thank You Tom Doyen Minnesota
That looks really good
Thanks BaD. It turned out well. Much better than my last attempt :)
I'll have to give this a try never tried it
Sweet! Let me know what you think
Looks & sounds delicious!
Much appreciated Mike! I am happy with the results 🥃
That sounds good
Thanks wolf. Turned out good!
Cheers brother!
Cheers bro, Split Brandy is next 🥃
@@FlatwoodsCellars I'm sending your Hillbilly Glass barrel lid out today!
Nice thing is brother you can add more brandy 😉
Absolutely!! 🥃
Morning brother
Howdy Ray 🥃
Do you still use rice in your fruit mashes
Occasionally, I plan on doing it with the blackberry again this summer
Thanks Sure do enjoy the info you display
I live in north Florida and I own a laundromat. One of my customers is a 4th generation moonshine man and he makes every kind of flavor shine you can think of and it’s crystal clear. It’s the best booze I’ve ever had in my life.
Very cool, sounds like a good customer to have!
Great Video bro, Lookin at that mash u made up , looks like around 25/30 L ? What size boiler are u using , ?? and moreso , is that a stripping run + a spirit run or just the one ?? cheers ( Australia )
It's about 57 Liters. It was a single pass with a dephlegmator. I can hold it around 160 proof, 80% abv running that way. Pretty similar results as a doubling run. Thanks for watching, hope all is well there. 🥃
Great recipe. .. if you want strong lemon flavor try adding some lemon grass also makes great lemonade
Good to know, thank you. I'm still learning my way around a lot of these botanicals.
Love it! Great job sir.
Thanks BaD, I know you've been looking into Gins, time to make the leap. 🥃
G'day J C, Q: Did you take any heads off the start of the run? and what %abv off of the spout did you finish the run?. That looks like a nice recipe I think I'ii be giving it a burl. Cheers mate.
G'day Garry. I took a very small "heads cut" bout 100 mls. for the residual heads, but mainly the first lil bit of botanicals is rough. It was coming off the pipe at 80/160 probably the best Gin I've ever made. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for that info J C. Cheers mate 🍻.@@FlatwoodsCellars
I'm not crazy about gin but that sounds very good. Hmm
I pretty much hated Gin a few years ago, until I started making my own. Give one a try. I think you might be surprised. 🥃
@@FlatwoodsCellars I've had Rogers and it was good. Still too heavy on the juniper for me but a lot better than what I've tried before.
Im looking forward to doing a gin.
I'm betting you'll like an Ozark Gin, better than any store bought you've had 🥃
Great video. Love watching gin recipes. I need to try one again. May as well be this one 👍
They're fun to experiment with. This is probably my favorite results so far. 🥃
Great video. Not a big fan of Gin, But the rest of your ingredients might make a pretty awesome addition to a rum... Keep up the informitive videos...
Pineapple Spiced Rum, sounds good!
I had some of my citrus gin last night. Not following the rules does make it more enjoyable
Most definitely, how did that turn out?
Nice 👍 I'll have to try that one
Thanks, I really enjoy the fruit & grain spirits 🥃
Sound delicious. Did i hear a thumper bubbling in the background?
Thank you! No that worm just makes a weird noise :) sadly I don't have one for this. I need to remedy that. 🥃
@@FlatwoodsCellars I e got an alimbic still also... And I need a thumper for it
That looks really tasty brother. Did you use a gas grill on the pineapple?
Yessir, I could have grilled them a bit more probably, but I was getting paranoid I might get too much of the grilled flavor.
@FlatwoodsCellars I did it on my Weber grill and had to pitch the result in my next run. Pineapple and smoke are not friends
I just got an air still and make my first gin last weekend.....turned out exactly how I wanted, really grapefruit forward. The juniper was really subdued, really nice. 1L of 50% Spirit 12g Juniper 3g Coriander Seed 8g Lemon Peel 15g Grapefruit Peel
The Air still work great for gin! I like the sound of grapefruit peel, haven't tried that.
hi jc .can you help me on this one looking to make a dandelion whisky could you recommend thebest way of making it and what do you think would be the best type of grains to use i am not quite sure on this one making a five to ten gallon batch all the best malcolm from ireland .
Very interesting idea, I like it! I'd really need to give it some thought on how I'd make it, but right off the top of my head. I go primarily Wheat. Dandelion has a nice flavor, but I think it would get lost with more robust grains like barley. I think it would work well with nice light grain like wheat, especially white. Keep me updated if you try or just wanna bounce ideas. 🥃
hi jc thank you for getting back so quick yes i can see what you are saying about the wheat so i am going to give it a go what is your opinion on this recipe 10kg malted wheat 5kg rolled oats 2kg malted 2row barley 2pound of honey dandelions yeast dady all the best malcolm +@@FlatwoodsCellars
@@malcolmwarren8580 That sounds good to me. I like the addition of oats and honey to the wheat, with just a little barley. Any idea how much Dandelion you'll add?
@@FlatwoodsCellars jc the dandelions i think is the hardest of all in the recipe i was thinking 3 pound what do you think.
@@malcolmwarren8580 definitely the hardest part! Sounds like a plan. I use a few pounds of sunflower seeds sometimes. They definitely add a uniqueness to it. Dandelion should do the same
What temperature did you bring the apple cider up to, And how long did you cook it
Around 180 for 20-30 minutes. Thanks for watching 🥃
Great video JC! I’ve got 25# of that corn from Nate. I was going to wait a bit, but now I’m going to have to get mine a mashing. 🥃
Saweet! Let me know what you think. It's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I need to get some more!
I plan on keeping a couple of hands full to try and grow some myself
@@Fuuuckthegovernment-nb4qq I saved a pint jar of seed as well 👊
