Natures baits carp fishing testing the Alpha range
If you sit in a window everything is a dark silhouette.
Hi mate not sure if you will see this 7 years later haha but just wondering is 15lb line ok on a reel that says 14lb max? Normally wouldn’t use that heavy of line but some lakes I want to try say 15 is the requirement cheers
@ThyOdn hi mate, I would say 15lb is fine, they say 14lb but most will be tested a few pounds higher! Just don't fill up the spool to the brim mate.
Thanks for posting very useful! A clutch is a mechanism that can engage or disengage a transmission between motor and gear train, that there is a brake.
Can you film the other way so the window is in front of you, the lighting will be much better. 😊
I’m 65 and just started fishing . Really useful video for a beginner like me. Well done
Thank you 👍
I lost my Penn yesterday because I forgot to set the bait drag. Devastated! Either a big shark or Tarpon. Looking for a replacement.
NGT = NO GOOD TACKLE
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Thanks David few years old now but this video is still useful.Recently brought a 10000 Shimano & wondered why its got two knobs on the back rather than one. Only just started fishing aged 72 & didnt realise how complicated it is. You've a new sub Ted.
Found this really helpful Thankyou
Thank you v much, your input helped me sort something that seemed complex but was shown by you to be pretty basic 😄....
Great tutorial brother 👍 thanks .
Superb video very well explained !
Lifesaver mate! New to this and had no idea about the anti-reverse. Wondered why the spool was spinning when line coming off the clutch 😂
Great vid 👍 usefull straight forward info, thanks
What about the ratchet on the front of the reel? That alters friction too...
Thanks, handsome
Looking at purchasing the Shimano Baitrunner X-Aero RA Reel . What's your thoughts . There's an RB version also, which is cheaper. I think this is down to the materials the body is made of .
Both very good reels mate, down to personal preference between them.
Appreciate that, I’ve just bought a baitrunner type reel without instructions so didn’t know what the anti-reverse and baitrunner switches did. 👍
Great stuff, really informative. Been fishing about 8 years, always use a baitrunner as a multi-purpose reel, surface and bottom, ledger or float, even freeline for perch with it. Great post - I learned a lot. Nice one
Slightly confused, I’ve just bought a Shimano 6000 and it has two settings, one for the drag and one for the baitrunner, is there a rule of thumb to balance these out?
Another good video mate 👍 you leart from a good teacher
I have mate who are you lol are you an old teacher of mine?
Hi mate it's Mark

Very helpful, thanks
Thanks for the helpful video, I now understand the baitrunner system however I'm still baffled by one thing. What does the dial do on the top of the spool? I understand that the clutch at the bottom is for the baitrunner but what is the other dial for?
Front dial on a bait runner only is to un screw to take of the spool mate. On a non bait runner reel it will be used as a clutch mate instead hope you understand 👍
@@davidrhodes-varley441 Thanks mate i think i understand now, my shimano 2500 baitrunner came this morning so was just trying to get familiar with it, so the top dial (above the spool) is for purely loosening the spool? Therefore the top dial on my reel needs to be tight?
@@WvsVFX yes mate
@@WvsVFX and on a normal non bait runner reel for more experienced anglers you control the front clutch give and take line when playing a fish you control the front dial to do this and when you set your rods down you adjust the front dial to your preference! Bait runner easier as you set the tension then just flick the bait runner up to give line down to stop the fish taking line
@@davidrhodes-varley441 Legend, thanks for your help mate
Brilliant video m8 🎣
For a newbie this actually helped a lot! Great video
Thank you sir 🙏 for sharing your knowledge about bait runner reel, now I know how to use my bait runner reel 🙂 done watching from 🇵🇭 Phillipines.
*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*
Great information mate, thank you! 👍
U lucky got good places too fish I am am the bread man so nice too meet you carp man
Not sure I agree my NGT profile 60 reels are brilliant IV had no problems as for them Shakespeare bait runs IV seen for less then 20 pounds there ok I would say thought it is a great video for new angler's in the hobby of carp fishing well done
Thank you mate
Those look like Birds eye chillis, 100,000 Scoville Heat Units. Certainly hotter than jalapeños and what would be in your vindaloo but not that hot in the scheme of things.
Was bloody hot 🔥
@@davidrhodes-varley441 indeed, I'm at Ghost level, will be braving the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion next year subject to sponsorship levels 😜
So, on reel with baitrunner, we don't use front drag at all or front drag doesn't exist at all on these kind of reels?
This might be a daft question, but can you use these reels to catch normal fish or is it carp specific?
Normal course fish to is fine mate
@@davidrhodes-varley441 thanks mate appreciate it, I’ve just ordered one that’s all so hoping to get out the weekend with it.
@@darreneaton9901 no problem mate they are good reels mate
just bought this reel this was really helpful as i was still using an old silstar fx40 and it was just not up to bigger fish
Thank you very much for this informative video. New to the sport thanks to lockdown, shall we say a mature student👍
Very welcome mate
What about the tensioner on the spool?
Just bought this reel so this was very helpful
Thank you very mutch, that was super helpful. Regards
Your 'on' is my 'off'. Confusing
Thanks for this, very helpful. So if the bait runner is on and it’s taking your line, how do you then strike the fish? Or do you not need to?
You can quickly flick it of mate but what we do is strike while holding the spool! Soon as you wind half a turn the baitrunner automatically flicks of!
@@davidrhodes-varley441 yeah so that’s what I thought. I’ve tried striking without holding the spool and lost fish. Do you reckon this is why?
@@bobbyswann3753 yes because when you strike the line is all coming out so your giving the fish more like to get away! Plus can mess up your spool bad with tangles and line knots! Never strike with your bait runner on mate
@@davidrhodes-varley441 ok cool thanks for the advise. So as the spool is spinning stop it and strike?
@@bobbyswann3753 yes mate
Nice video thanks. Old dude restarting his fishing.
Glad I found this video. My baitrunner reel makes a clicking noise really loud when my lead etc is being reeled in. Will have a look at next time I go fishing and adjust back drag maybe
Thanks man really helped 👍
Thanks for the explanation mate 🙂
Just the info I needed! Thanks
What's the difference between the ra and rb models? I have two 6000 ra and two 6000rb.
Don't think there is much difference I believe it's just down to the model, on a Shimano baitrunner reels I can't find any difference from the RB and RA morals even online says there is no difference mate.
New friends here,like the video.
