" A lot of People describe the Game as chill... until SHTF!!!!" That statement as an old MMorpger is pulling me in. I loved EQ, I Loved WoW, I Loved Dark Ages of Camelot, I loved Vanguard, Lord of the Rings... This seems like the game for me as it makes my participation matter in class choice, making friends and being casual when there is downtime. To know how far I have fallen I currently Play Genshin Impact ( a Gatcha Game for those that do not know ) and have nightmares too numerous to list. I will take the time to look into Embers Adrift and give it a download. MarleMMO thank you for making my Hair stand on the back of my neck with this Introduction.

Dead Game!

When I played, the first time I went to the temple of three winds, I had to travel several zones on foot. It was an adventure on itself because found several rare monsters and different locations. See the towers of pvp across the landscape, crossing to hostile areas where you could be attacked by opposite faction, and that would be miseravel. Walk of shame.

Does it have simpler classes too for those of us who want to experience the world without doing maths homework? 😅

The new starting Zone is nice, and gives the best loot/equip but it's crafting-pacing is worse. Also the story is good, but it takes away from the "holy cr@p"-effects you have when you follow the normal intros. For example the first encounter with an Uruk in Book 3 (or 4) had so much impact for me. But you encounter an Uruk in the new Intro....

I wouldnt worry about amazon's version of the game, that company is such woke bullshit their game will fail no matter how good it looks.

Judging from the comments most people have played LOTRO before here so they have a soft spot for it. But as a new player, its a game stuck in 2007. From the UI to the map, its frustrating and not intuitive for modern PC's. Why doesnt that get overhauled? Also living outside of the US/EU means 300 ms and its frustrating. As a fan of Lotr i really wanted to get into it, but on the technical side there was too much issues 😢

I don't like level scaling. ESO you never feel like you are ever getting any stronger. And part of the fun of progression is feeling like you are getting stronger.

I still wonder how they haven't yet figured out a Silmarillion movie adaption wirh LOTRO, it certainly seems possible!

Except they still havent updated the UI which makes it near unplayable on larger monitors.

It is a no brainer they want people to invest time and make it easy and fun for the no effort / I want all types, so they will spend money later on instead just leaving frustrated that they are not lvl5 demigods.

well then they should have gone the original route of middle earth online and be a sandbox game but the devs scrapped it to be more like WOW

Me and 3 friends tried to play it but it never worked for all of us? Google says it’s free to play. How do you get it to open beyond clicking play?? I can run cyberpunk on high graphics but I can’t run lotro??? What the heck?

2004 was a good year for games. Bioware game out with my 2nd all time fav NeverWinter Nights in 2002. That game and that era of gaming was very special to me. I love the gfx from that era. Sure compared to now its not aged well at all, but i love it. Sure these old games seem to run on an ancient code of honour, refusing to change with the times, but i like that. That's where i come from as a gamer, my happiest moments as a gamer. LOTRO brings me back to those times where care, love and craftsmanship were poured into games. I like that the old skool games repel modern gamers who only know the triple A gaming industry's constant churning of flashy (but utterly souless) games. In our corner, we remember the times of slow paced plays. We remember when games required us to use our brains, rather than constantly flashing arrows and shiny markers, spoonfeeding us on HOW to play the game. We remember how game immersion wasn't influenced by shiny graphics. We spent time reading books in game, we spent time listening to music in game, and we loved it. Lotro is absolutely wonderful. The devs have kept to Tolkien's vision and made it a reality in the gaming world. The Devs have stuck to the source material vigorously and that's where the charm comes from. Sure it's an old game with "archiac" mechanics and graphics, but don't let that deter you, as the magick lies within. This is the beautiful of old school MMORPGs, or RPGS in general. As a WoW (hoping you have tried classic or even Turtle WoW) player you will appreciate the spell mechanics/queue system in combat, which follows the traditional tried and tested format. Each area in the game is expertly hand crafted with precision and love. The writing, the voice acting, the narrative and pacing of the story is very well done. The music is phenomenal! You may find yourself completely immersed in the beautiful music whilst wandering Middle Earth. I recently made my way to Bree (i'm a new player) and ended up spending about 40mins just chilling there, not doing anything, relaxing to the music in the Tavern, whilst i was smoking a bowl of pipe weed in real life at my computer desk. I can only ever remember my three all time fav games (Fallout New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights and Kingdom Come Deliverance) giving me this relaxation and vibe. LOTRO has quickly become my 4th all time fav game. In speaking about immersion, this game does it VERY WELL. You will feel it as you slowly pace through the game, doing each quest, getting to know the story and the world, which has very little inconsistencies. I find myself caring about the world, even the trivial things. Actually just yesterday I ended up in a small town called Staddle, and found a questgiver by a Hobbit called Himloc. Well...his whole quest line is about how his pipe-weed has been stolen by local brazen fools that must be dealt with. As a pipe tobacco smoker in real life, this quest was important to me as you do not mess with a man's pipe and his pipe weed. These are some of the small pleasures i find. The community, whether you decide to play on the free servers or legendary VIP servers (I wholesomely recommend you get on the VIP servers, you will NOT regret it), the community is just amazing. It's a mature community of old school adult non toxic players, who care about the world of Middle Earth, who care about Tolkien's legacy, and who want to be part of it. Also we want to find Frodo in game, to give him some lembas if we can. So that's it. Now stop reading and get on LOTRO!

I love the world of Tolkien! However, I've never played the game is it still worth it to give it a try as a new player? or am I too late?

The idea that the game is focussed around the journey has convinced me to jump in. When I played WoW I felt like levelling was a chore to get through to reach the true meat of the game which was end game content. This sounds right up my street.

Man THANKS a lot for doing this great service for the game i love since 2012, its really the best LOTR there is and my favorite game ever, ive been playing my first class after a return for 4 years and i can say that living inside rhe role of a characater in such a big world is transforming.

I remember having a great time, but haven't played it for the last like 15 years ... I played it with my partner and back then there were no many players, and we just got into Moria ... there were so many group quests that required 6 or even 12 people but we could not get anyone ... we felt we kept missing on the content and eventually gave on the game ... they had in skirmish option NPC that fight for you ... why did not they introduce hiring NPC when you miss a player I d pay lots of gold to be able to hire NPC when missing the player in order to do the dungeon ! Nothing worse when they force grouping and there are no players to group with!
