I am severely concerned that Lotro will just get bought out by Amazon and shut down.

Community as a feature? You have to be trolling, there's no way. This game is notorious for banning people for simply having a difference in opinion on updates and features. They have scammed people out of hundreds of dollars by banning backer accounts for the high crime of not liking a new system and CALMLY expressing their concerns. People have been banned for pvping staff in a pvp zone. The community is exactly why I won't play this game. Look at the steam reviews and 40% of the negative ones will be talking about how toxic the staff and their ravenous fam base is. This very fan base has no issue eating its own for simply not falling in line. They essentially prune anyone that doesn't 100% agree with the staff from the community, so all you have left is what feels like a harmonious "kumbaya" feeling at the detriment of backers and players. Having cancer is not an excuse to bully and scam your own community. You clearly did very little research into this game, because most of these issues can be seen pretty easily at surface level. Whether that's steam reviews, or the occasional video with logs and evidence showing the exact behavior that I'm describing.

The definition of what constitutes an mmo has been greatly distorted since games like FF14 came out. The scripted cutscenes and voice acting has become an expectation of a good mmo now. Despite the claim from developers that FF14 is an rpg first and mmo second, people have still grown accustomed to the story arcs. Without this aspect I doubt Embers Adrift will be the success they are hoping for but it does look promising.

is this game worth playing in 2024? Like do a lot of people play it?

you are skipping its beginning, lotr online had alot of bad stuff surrounding it when it came out, and it was also pure crap when it came out; and kept being that for years to come so no one never went back. However after 17 years and still going, something must be right now

I have played most major Mmorpgs thoroughly WoW, ESO, FF14, SWTOR, BDO etc and I really want to love LOTRO , I have come back to it multiple times to give it a good try but unfortunately I cant do the combat Skill queue thing. I am so used to the other mmo's it kills me how slow it feels, Is there a setting or mod so I can remove this?

What's the actual cost to get all the content , i have base game and paid VIP for a while, so have premium status, also got many free bonus quests with some codes couple years back, but if i wanted to play fresh and through the legendary server, do i need to have purchased all the expansions or will it progress naturally?

If only they could update the UI to be able to scale to 4k screens I'd be all over this still. Love it.

Would be good if not for all the typical (cheap and useless) effects in MMOS, glowing weapons, auras, etc. Ruins it imo

It's definitely a special MMO - have played it on and off since March 2007. There is a TON of content. The BIG PROBLEM with the game is the UI. It is horrible on modern resolutions - honestly anything above 1920 x 1080 starts to get really bad. It is a big barrier for getting new people into the game and candidly sucks for vetran players too. It's a topic the devs avoid and ignore though some will say they have said they are working on it. I don't believe it as they never release a single update about the topic. The only update to the UI that they put any effort into was the STORE (which looks horrible, no offense it just does). So that shows their focus. Of course they have to make money and they have a small team but they should chip away at it and announce every chip. I want the game to last and thrive. It is a great game in so many ways. The UI has to be updated - this means all the interface windows, the icons, the font in ui windows, etc.

Still performance problems?? Still need to buy all dlcs and questpacks? Long grinds and bloated systems and 1000 currencys. I loved the game but im not 14 anymore. It was a good game maybe its good for a nostalgie trip but it will never grow or get a big boost because they just dont have the money for it. Its free so try it out but before you spend money be aware its a huge time investment.

Definitely a great game with so much content. The only thing killing this game for new players is the UI which scales horribly for modern monitor resolutions. They HAVE to address it if they want it to survive long term. If you can handle running @ 1920x1080 or want to tinker with it a lot to get it slightly tolerable than you are in for a great game.

I'm a massive fan and spend my days reading about the banners of Gondolin and the halls of Thingol. Why have I not played this? Oh yes the terrible terrible game engine.

Game is absolutely dead, 14 concurrent players as of writing this with a peak of 30 to 40. Can't play a group based MMO with no players.

Game still holds up a year later. Im even designing my own themes thanks to the 1.82 update!

Every year LoTRO is holiday destination. I’ll visit the shire, Moria and a couple of other regions. Buy a micro transaction for support and say goodbye. It’s an absolute gem.

I'd play it again if they would finally release the UI overhaul. Barely being able to read texts, buttons and so on a 27' screen in 2560 x 1440 in 2024 makes it really unplayable for me. Which is a shame because I really like everything else...

They definitely do have a great community. Perhaps the best MMO community I have found.

There's a cool channel, Lotr Fan, thats illustrating the entire LOTR audiobook series using LOTRO.

I hope someday when I have time I can come back.

ui grafics and animations are soo bad but still game is good . I love vanilla wow private servers becasue animations still doesnt bother me but in lotro they look soo weird especially horses runing side way

I am still playing LOTRO. This game lacks in advertising and event. If only the Developers create an event of LEVEL RACE one per class to reach max level to have a price of atleast $5000, like for an anniversary and was commercialized everywhere on a vacation where everyone is bored. I'm sure people will properly play. Or not a LEVEL RACE but a QUEST COMPLETION RACE.

I love LOTRO, back in 2009 me and my 2 other best friends no life’d this game for a year or two! Soo many good memories man! I would definitely go back and play, but it would be really cool if the devs gave this beloved gem a lil graphical overhaul! It deserves it!

I have hundrets of hours in the game never got past lvl 60 because all I did was chilling in Bree, chatting with other players, playing music, crafting and trading. such an awesome game with the best community

I remember wanting to play this game so bad when I was a kid. My imagination ran wild thinking of a world in which you can do whatever. Was never able to play it though due to no pay option.

I don't mind paying a subscription on a good game. What I do mind are micro transactions which target people who have gambling issues. It's a real problem for some people.
