Started playing 2 weeks ago and its by far the best mmo Ive played. Ive tried nearly all mmos out there, but nothing comes close to the amount of content GW2 offers. It almost feels endless. Also, the fashion is incredible :D
Great coverage of a lot of the game and content. The PvE scene is great and very diverse you have world bosses, map metas, map completion, dungeons, raids, fractals, strikes. It's awesome to jump on discord with a guild mate and go explore.
I played back on release of the base game (nearly 10 years ago) then moved country and forgot about it until the new expansion (dragons end) and I'm back and loving it sooo much.
Really informative and communicates well what's to expect from the game, including that feeling of being a bit overwhelmed by all those things to do - there are really so many of them. The game promises many adventures and experiences and is really casual friendly (but if you have time you can easily spend thousands of hours on this game and still feel you haven't seen everything).
I've no plans to play to Guild Wars 2 (due to specific preferences) but I'm glad the game exists and I'm glad it's loved by its fans. I'm envious 'cause I haven't seen a well-produced and well-scripted video essay for the positives of my fave MMO, LOTRO. Maybe one will come soon with the recent resurgence. For now, I'm off to find quality LOTRO fan videos. 👀
I have some of the best memories of exploring the core GW2 zones. It's such a nice and rich world which invites you to go out and explore on you're own it's amazing.

I do want to point out that there is a huge number of armor n weapon skins in game as well and many are quite awesome looking. the gemstore skins are absolutely shinier and more premium, but it doesn't mean that there are very few nongemstore skins. also re-emphasize that you can buy gems with in game gold - I previously bought all my gemstore items n skins purely by just playing the game, farm gold, buy gems when the exchange rate is good, and buy the skins n upgrades I wanted when they go on sale. I did that for 2 years and bought pretty much all the usual recommended qol items and several outfits/skins for no irl money spent. I recently started to buy gems with irl money purely because I love the game so much and want to support the devs, and funnily enough I find that I don't actually have much I want to buy on the gemstore now 😂
im pretty certain wow had their transmogification system before gw2 even had officially launched. So not so sure 'bout that topic, otherwise great video, really liked it!
*Sorry for the small rants. GW2 just does some amazing things that I am passionate about. lol* Awesome video! I started playing in March 2021 and I was hooked from the start. This is the first MMO to keep my interest past the first month and I am so glad a friend suggested it to me. The combat is so much more dynamic than many other MMOs I have played, and the movement in this game, specifically mounts, is the best I have ever played in any game. The last big thing that I love is how much the devs have tried to remove the trinity(DPS, Tank, Heal) from the game, and they are mostly successful with it. Specified builds do exist and are in general "better" when used with a perfectly organized team for some of the high-end content(Raids, Strikes, Fractals, WvW, PvP, etc.), they are absolutely and positively not necessary with most builds that are still well built, smartly geared, and with skill and knowledge of the content can work and succeed perfectly fine. I regularly lie about my build when a PUG asks for a healer, DPS, etc., I might be a partial healer but not min/maxed for it, and yet we always succeed despite me not playing the "pErFeCt bUiLd" Some of the major complaints that I hear all the time are about the gem store and the living world seasons, and how people wish there was a subscription service to provide some of those things. If you feel that way, then just spend $10-20(no $15 option) once a month on the gem store and treat it like a "monthly subscription", except this "subscription" can be canceled at any time and you still have full access to the game that you had before. I usually spend about $10 a month in the gem store, though sometimes a little more, and if I don't use them all I just let them stack up until something I really want comes my way.

Great video as always! The jumping puzzles in this game are extreme, i wonder why other mmos don't have something like this. The only negative i read now from active players in forums is that if you join now as new or returning player you missed on the "living story" thing and its not worth. edit: Oh and Josh strife made a video on Lotro haha! i bet you watched that already

1:21 I am MASSIVELY disappointed. The griffon is MORE then just a glider. It's the fastest mount and after you've overcome the skill cap for it and you've learned how to use it properly it's IMO the BEST mount. It's so good, heck even Blizzard CTRL+C'ed it for they next expansion.
I'm sorry to read that you're disappointed; I hope you are relived that I opened with b-roll of the griffon (..including footage pointing to your Blizzard comment) in addition to starting the mount section with more griffon abilities. Slight correction here Raids is not the only way to get legendary armor pvp and wvw have there own way of earning legendaries with the downside being those legendaries do not have effects
Ah, both are great for very different reasons! If you prefer tactical combat with a long term goal, Wakfu hands down. If in & out gameplay with fairly easy content is a better match, then GW2. ♥️

@@MarleMMO I haven't played City of Heroes past issue(?) 5. However, from what I heard, there was a lot of customization when it came to your hero career, base, and other things. As for Champions, they did a lot for costume slots and now even have transformation effects when you change them. Though 90% everything is behind lockboxes.
Just about the only negative I have experienced with this game is getting kicked off the server in story instances leading to having to restart from the beginning of the story instance. Its pretty frustrating, but doesn't happen to all people depending on ISP. Other than that, this game is a golden diamond.
Later story instances have generally gotten better with this, offering checkpoints that save your progress if you end up getting kicked out of the game.
you are aware dulfy hasn't been around for years most of there content or videos are out of date to stopped making guides just before season 4 ep6 came out.
hmmm strong disagree.. I was still very much a noob and didn't know half the things I know now after 200 hours. Probably took more like 1000 hours before I actually had a decent understanding of most classes, gamemodes, metas, etc..

Just a small note that Griffon is different from a glider. Once you've mastered all of its abilities, you can remain in the air indefinitely provided you have enough vertical space to regain lost altitude
great video, very concise, accurate and informative.... IMO horizontal progression is the best, you set your own goals... and focus on having fun at your own pace... you can do multiple activities and 'content' types to get said goals... I just love this game! GW2 took some stuff from WAR (Warhammer: Age of Reckoning) and vastly improved it, not that it's a bad thing, just normal evolution of the genre, but most people never played WAR.

With the Legendary Armory you can also share any single legendary item on every compatible character, eliminating the need to craft the same legendary for several characters. And any upgrade you placed on a legendary can be retrieved without destroying the item, opposite to normal gear.
I played the original Guild Wars and up until they got rid of Mac support I played GW2, I am disappointed that they dropped Mac support it was a fun game that ran pretty well on my m1 Mac at least.

I started to play a month ago and I'm in love with the game! I came from ESO, where all I played was healer because of my motor skills problems. I could never be a decent DD because rotations are just impossible for me. In GW2, I love so much the Engineer class. I feel like it's perfect for people like me, or with any other kind of limitations. The turrets are great and do most of my damage, it has nice skills for me to escape like the coward I am when I'm about to die, and the Jump Shot skill from the rifle weapon was the only reason I was able to do the "Not so secret" jumping puzzle. It's the perfect class for me. ❤️❤️❤️ I'm not sure if I want to use any of the Elite specialisations yet, but I'm working my way to the one with the robot. Also, the Cash store is WAY more user friendly than in ESO. ESO got so much of my money with its crates because I never got the things I wanted, so I always ended up buying 30+ crates monthly. 😭 In GW2 I can finally buy the cosmetics I want without relying on luck. 🥺 The world feels so alive in GW2, too! I love all the events, and exploring the world is my favourite activity (with jumping puzzle closely at #2). In ESO all I used to do was dungeons and trials, and if there wasn't enough people online, I just couldn't play that day. I never thought I would love another MMORPG so much after ESO (I have almost 2000 hours of gameplay), so GW2 have been a great surprise for me. I don't think I'll go back to ESO anytime in the near future.
Indeed. I also quitted ESO and mostly because of how money hungry Zenimax has become. Since the infamous release of the crown crates I've never spent a single coin in the crown store. The game gets the same recicled content every year in the expansions, with no new big features since Morrowind in 2017. Glad to be playing a game that actually respects my time and wallet right now.
There is 9 classes in gw2 and that's it. Claiming that there is any more than that makes no sense. Would anyone really argue that the difference between Tempest and Catalyst as as big as the difference between a Warrior and Elementalist? Most mmo's have specializations like that don't try to make them more than they are.
I did explain that elite specializations are akin to prestige classes; you're right that there are nine base professions and I never claimed otherwise. 👍

Saying that there is 36 classes because of elite spec whole making fun of WoW at the same time is really not objective whatsoever. WoW specs have a much more defined identity and playstyle and for the most part way more engaging gameplay. I like GW2 and have been playing it on and off since release 10 years ago but honestly class customisation is still very shallow compared to most MMOs. Utility skills are rarely fun, weapon skills feel repetitive after a week on a weapon and elite specs would work only if we had twice as many by now. Having one new spec every 4 years that you might end up not liking is just a bad system.
I hear you although I contextualized the comparison between WoW & GW2 -- do you have thoughts on that particular comment? I understand that not everyone will enjoy GW2's combat nor customization options (I personally am not fond of the various stat combinations nor the fairly simple open world content generally speaking). 💖

Hey there, GW2 is a bit different than other MMOs. "Hearts" tend to be areas in which events tend to occur which is the hallmark feature of Guild Wars 2. I recommend looking for where event activity is and following the flow. 💖

I still need to get my Skyscale.. I loved GW2 for years because grind was mostly optional. I found the Griffon to be reasonably tuned because it took you all over the PoF maps in a way that caused the player to feel like they're on a journey. But the SS? After running over Dragonfall 3x for collections caused me some burnout. 💖
If they handled the LW story content better i would give this game a go, but the nickel and dime why the do story seems kinda shitty why is there no way to buy it in a bundle access to all story content cost over 100$
It's only a one-time payment of US$110 at most for all story content in the game, which is a little over 7 months of a subscription to most other MMOs. Living World does need to be more obvious as a separate purchase, but the fact that it is a separate purchase is completely fine; especially considering the fact that they literally give them away for free to existing players. An entire season pretty much forms an expansion's worth of content, minus the elite specs that an expansion offers.
The Living Season model is confusing and ANet should include the episodes with its given expansion. However, as JM wrote below, comparatively, it is rather inexpensive and a way to fund a very generous FTP version of the game. 💖
9:10 There is no pay to win here. You CANNOT BUY Ascended or Legendary items from Gem store. You can buy MATERIALS TO CRAFT THEM - from Player's trading post. And like in case of some first generation Legendary weapons, you CAN buy gems, turn them to gold and then buy the total of 21 first generation Leggies - from Player's Trading post. This however does not make you any stronger than someone who obtained ascended gear from regular play. Gem store only offers cosmetics and quality of life account upgrades like bank/inventory space/portals to specific areas. None of that makes you a better player, and a veteran can obtain all those upgrades - by using farmed gold to buy gems. And as a veteran I can assure you that gold is EVERYWHERE in this game if you are just willing to play. Listen, you can literally farm enough gold to buy a Deluxe edition from within the game. What are we talking about here. If anything, it's the opposite of pay to win. It's farm to win. With dirt cheap prices on sale, no monthly sub? There is NO OTHER MMO THAT HAS THIS. It's not even a question to debate, next time someone asks "Is it pay to win?" you just say "Nope."
@@MarleMMO It's true, and don't mistake it as a remark to what you stated - you were overall on point. I'm just claiming that there should be no doubt here. You can circumvent the grind by paying for materials that other players have farmed and put for sale and save only time. Or buy a first series(out of 3) Legendary weapon that someone else has crafted and put to sale - but miss out the large portion of achievement points that you'd get if you did it yourself. ArenaNet has put alot of effort to lock "ultimate" gear and mounts behind massive questlines and requirements like Map completion to 100%. Game's just not pay to win, people can wave their money all day and will only ride a Griffon when they finish the huuuge questline for it 🤣

6:36 higher levels of fractals are exception, you need ascended or legendary equipment for that, because exotic equipment don't have enough slots for agony resistance. You could just dodge every attack with agony in some fractals but lets be honest new player is not gonna be good enough to do that. You can start fractals with exotic gear that's fine but it will be much easier to get ascended gear than trying to progress without it in higher fractals.

But as for the video's actual topic I love guild wars 2, it's my favorite MMORPG and the first one I really have played properly I did play EQ2 growing up but I never got much farther than the starting zones and I mostly liked to decorate houses
I definitely Disagree with GW2 Respecting your time. Oh you want to try a new class? Well, Not only do you have to level it. You also need to gather the hundreds of Hero points you have already done, completely redo all of the map completion you have done etc. Trying a new class to see if you like it is a 100+ Hour investment just to find out you dont enjoy it. GW2 is easily one of the WORST mmos for respecting your time. If the Hero Points were account wide, so that when you booted up a new character you could immediately try out all of your specializations to see if one clicked. I would agree with you on GW2 respecting player time. But as it stands. GW2 only respects the time of players who are already so invested that they dont need to try things anymore. They know what they like and dont like. Its horrendous for new players.
@@MarleMMO i disagree. In many mmos, the only process is leveling your classes. Once you level it. That is it. In the case of GW2. If you want to try Warrior for example. You need to not only level your class, but also spend 30+ hours going through and gathering hero points from every expansion so that you can try out the specializations. In this game, specializations are effectively the class. Gunsaber vs Spellbreaker are 2 entirely different experiences. In most games, they are so radically different from each other to warrant their own classes. But in GW2 they are the same class. So to truly experience warrior, you have to level them both. Adding tens of hours to the leveling experience.

Comparatively to the vast number of MMOs on the market, the total hours spent unlocking elite specializations with end-game gear I wager is markedly less. Not only that, GW2 has many catch-up mechanics: level scrolls, XP boosts, WvW skill points -- and others I'm likely forgetting. But to each their own. 💖
@@rewt127 Don't mean to necro this comment but I felt that I should state the alternative: You can spend a half a day doing WvW collecting Testimonies of Heroics and turn them into the Heroics Notary in the Wvw main camps to automatically unlock the Hero Points in all of the expansions. They're cheap and easy. Half a day might even be too much time.
10:20 i gotta say you get enough gold to never have to pay a penny. around 30g an hour is not unusual (when trying to actually make gold) which translates to 100gems. a FULL BODY skin (wardrobe) is around 800 gems, and around 600 gems on sale. I'd say playing 6-8h for a skin is pretty fair.
@@MarleMMO - Daily Logins (super easy money) - Octovine Meta (pretty easy money) - Fractals (not that easy money but still not too bad) - (Farmruns) (easy if well coordinated)
Octovine event is actually a nice sidething if you got time. Every run provides around 3,5g and takes 10ish minutes. It's low effort and (relatively) easy to do for everyone (even below lvl 80). And if you are below Lvl 80 it'd actually a great XP farm as well. 1,5-2 LVLs per run is no problem
I haven't played GW2 in a long time... I've played FF:XIV, New World, currently subbed to WoW as an AGM and main Mythic+ Heals for my Guild, and I'm playing Destiny 2 instead because it's what I've been looking for. But I can still safely say GW2 was the best MMO I've played yet (that Blizzard unashamedly and embarrassingly takes ideas from, after their players have long been dissatisfied). The combat was simplistic but rewarding even back then, and the world events were exciting; the community was super friendly and the game was designed so that players wouldn't hate seeing each other, like with WoW's faction-tapping targets or having to wait on respawns. It looks like GW2 came a long way, from being great to amazing, and I like that I know I can revisit this legend of an MMO at any time. Thanks for the detailed vid! @@ZER0_SEV3N Idk there's alot of things I'm unable to explain. Few things I can think of are probably because the world seems too themepark, equalized gear pvp, transmog is ridiculous imo. Also those bunch of systems accessible through tons of different UIs and all that. I may not be a huge fan of hard cap level/gear but I'm not too sure about that because I don't think most of the softcap kind of mmorpgs exist did it right. I also really like having factions in mmorpg. Overall I think mmorpgs really try to cater to casuals. That said, I've been noticing that the community often asking for stuff that I don't want in mmorpgs so I know what I don't like aren't actually bad. Just not to my liking.
Nah, not my cup of tea. Im a cheap broke, with the right timing and farming LOTRO allows me to access all major content for free. Not this one. No point with all these expansion mechanics and stuff if I never get to access them as a F2P. Honestly If im willing to give the time to earn my access then give the access; better than zero.
Great video, but let me point out a mistake you made: you mixed up specializations and elite specializations. Specializations are passive skill trees that you can choose three of on a given build, and elite specializations (which you actually described in your video) are a variation of those trees that actually change the class's core mechanics and add new weapon proficiencies, and you can only take one elite in one of those three specialization slots. I don't know if you intentionally simplified the term for those who don't play the game, but that was technically false. =)
You can put more infusions into ascended/legendary gear that give something like +5 power, ghostly aura. you can put 1 of each stat like power, condi, healing etc.. the auras even stack tho you can not put 5 +5 powers in they have to be a different stat.
The main reason I stopped playing this game was the pricing for the living world content. I bought the expansions, thinking that they would continue to the story but no, you have to spend more money (more than the total costs of the expansions).

One thing to understand about PvP and WvW is that in its current state it is often completely imbalanced to the point of frustration. Rarely will it be one server versus another. More often than not one server has an organized set of raids destroying the other two servers to the point of people just not queuing in, or afking in the battle. PvP is often the same. Casual players can try to play unranked but half of the games will end up against a premade team of 4 that will stomp on you then poke fun in the map chat that both teams can see.
Some pros of GW2: great action combat system, superior mounts, SUPERB fashion, 0 grind, 0 p2w, an humongous choice of classes, a HUGE variety of builds and choices of gameplay, even the same class can be played in a lot of different ways/roles, decent story for MMO standards, exploring and leveling up is genuinely fun and doesn't feel like a chore Main cons of GW2: endgame is handled like shit. Years pass without any new raids of fractals, rewards are complete garbage compared to brainless open world metas, they constantly drop a project, start another just to drop that as well after a while. Aside from that, competitive modes (WvW and PvP) are rarely (basically never) updated with fresh content and mostly just "kept alive". Big shame because they both have immense potential. Also a lot of players could find themselves a little big aimless because the content is a lot but the game doesn't really encourages you to do anything If you are looking for the classic, grindy MMO experience with a lot of vertical endgame progression, raiding and hardcore groups, GW2 might not be what you are looking for. If you are looking for a more relaxed experience, maybe something to play between other games without needing to invest hundreds of hours every month , GW2 is a great choice. Mind you, GW2 still has good raids and endgame content, but it's a lot harder to find active competitive guilds and groups compared to other MMOs due to how bad the rewards are and how much time passes between each release. They also confirmed they won't be releasing new raids anymore and fractals (another engame instanced content) are on the same boat, so keep that in mind
Lovely balanced comment. Somewhat like watching particular shows for specific reasons, I tend to play GW2 /not/ for raids/strikes yet for the other content types it does well. With that said, you're correct that aspirational group-based endgame expands at a slow pace. If someone is looking for a truly massive amount of raid content, WoW or FFXIV is an obvious winner. But GW2 has no treadmill, so once you feel the itch to return, you don't have to play catch up! 💖

Started playing 2 weeks ago and its by far the best mmo Ive played. Ive tried nearly all mmos out there, but nothing comes close to the amount of content GW2 offers. It almost feels endless. Also, the fashion is incredible :D

I played back on release of the base game (nearly 10 years ago) then moved country and forgot about it until the new expansion (dragons end) and I'm back and loving it sooo much.

Really informative and communicates well what's to expect from the game, including that feeling of being a bit overwhelmed by all those things to do - there are really so many of them. The game promises many adventures and experiences and is really casual friendly (but if you have time you can easily spend thousands of hours on this game and still feel you haven't seen everything).

I do want to point out that there is a huge number of armor n weapon skins in game as well and many are quite awesome looking. the gemstore skins are absolutely shinier and more premium, but it doesn't mean that there are very few nongemstore skins. also re-emphasize that you can buy gems with in game gold - I previously bought all my gemstore items n skins purely by just playing the game, farm gold, buy gems when the exchange rate is good, and buy the skins n upgrades I wanted when they go on sale. I did that for 2 years and bought pretty much all the usual recommended qol items and several outfits/skins for no irl money spent. I recently started to buy gems with irl money purely because I love the game so much and want to support the devs, and funnily enough I find that I don't actually have much I want to buy on the gemstore now 😂

Awesome video! I started playing in March 2021 and I was hooked from the start. This is the first MMO to keep my interest past the first month and I am so glad a friend suggested it to me. The combat is so much more dynamic than many other MMOs I have played, and the movement in this game, specifically mounts, is the best I have ever played in any game. The last big thing that I love is how much the devs have tried to remove the trinity(DPS, Tank, Heal) from the game, and they are mostly successful with it. Specified builds do exist and are in general "better" when used with a perfectly organized team for some of the high-end content(Raids, Strikes, Fractals, WvW, PvP, etc.), they are absolutely and positively not necessary with most builds that are still well built, smartly geared, and with skill and knowledge of the content can work and succeed perfectly fine. I regularly lie about my build when a PUG asks for a healer, DPS, etc., I might be a partial healer but not min/maxed for it, and yet we always succeed despite me not playing the "pErFeCt bUiLd"
Some of the major complaints that I hear all the time are about the gem store and the living world seasons, and how people wish there was a subscription service to provide some of those things. If you feel that way, then just spend $10-20(no $15 option) once a month on the gem store and treat it like a "monthly subscription", except this "subscription" can be canceled at any time and you still have full access to the game that you had before. I usually spend about $10 a month in the gem store, though sometimes a little more, and if I don't use them all I just let them stack up until something I really want comes my way.

The griffon is MORE then just a glider. It's the fastest mount and after you've overcome the skill cap for it and you've learned how to use it properly it's IMO the BEST mount. It's so good, heck even Blizzard CTRL+C'ed it for they next expansion.

Ah, both are great for very different reasons! If you prefer tactical combat with a long term goal, Wakfu hands down. If in & out gameplay with fairly easy content is a better match, then GW2. ♥️

@@MarleMMO I haven't played City of Heroes past issue(?) 5. However, from what I heard, there was a lot of customization when it came to your hero career, base, and other things.
As for Champions, they did a lot for costume slots and now even have transformation effects when you change them. Though 90% everything is behind lockboxes.

Just about the only negative I have experienced with this game is getting kicked off the server in story instances leading to having to restart from the beginning of the story instance. Its pretty frustrating, but doesn't happen to all people depending on ISP.
Other than that, this game is a golden diamond.

IMO horizontal progression is the best, you set your own goals... and focus on having fun at your own pace... you can do multiple activities and 'content' types to get said goals... I just love this game!
GW2 took some stuff from WAR (Warhammer: Age of Reckoning) and vastly improved it, not that it's a bad thing, just normal evolution of the genre, but most people never played WAR.

With the Legendary Armory you can also share any single legendary item on every compatible character, eliminating the need to craft the same legendary for several characters. And any upgrade you placed on a legendary can be retrieved without destroying the item, opposite to normal gear.

I started to play a month ago and I'm in love with the game!
I came from ESO, where all I played was healer because of my motor skills problems. I could never be a decent DD because rotations are just impossible for me.
In GW2, I love so much the Engineer class. I feel like it's perfect for people like me, or with any other kind of limitations. The turrets are great and do most of my damage, it has nice skills for me to escape like the coward I am when I'm about to die, and the Jump Shot skill from the rifle weapon was the only reason I was able to do the "Not so secret" jumping puzzle. It's the perfect class for me. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm not sure if I want to use any of the Elite specialisations yet, but I'm working my way to the one with the robot.
Also, the Cash store is WAY more user friendly than in ESO. ESO got so much of my money with its crates because I never got the things I wanted, so I always ended up buying 30+ crates monthly. 😭 In GW2 I can finally buy the cosmetics I want without relying on luck. 🥺
The world feels so alive in GW2, too! I love all the events, and exploring the world is my favourite activity (with jumping puzzle closely at #2). In ESO all I used to do was dungeons and trials, and if there wasn't enough people online, I just couldn't play that day.
I never thought I would love another MMORPG so much after ESO (I have almost 2000 hours of gameplay), so GW2 have been a great surprise for me. I don't think I'll go back to ESO anytime in the near future.

Indeed. I also quitted ESO and mostly because of how money hungry Zenimax has become. Since the infamous release of the crown crates I've never spent a single coin in the crown store. The game gets the same recicled content every year in the expansions, with no new big features since Morrowind in 2017. Glad to be playing a game that actually respects my time and wallet right now.

There is 9 classes in gw2 and that's it. Claiming that there is any more than that makes no sense. Would anyone really argue that the difference between Tempest and Catalyst as as big as the difference between a Warrior and Elementalist? Most mmo's have specializations like that don't try to make them more than they are.
I did explain that elite specializations are akin to prestige classes; you're right that there are nine base professions and I never claimed otherwise. 👍

Saying that there is 36 classes because of elite spec whole making fun of WoW at the same time is really not objective whatsoever.
WoW specs have a much more defined identity and playstyle and for the most part way more engaging gameplay.
I like GW2 and have been playing it on and off since release 10 years ago but honestly class customisation is still very shallow compared to most MMOs. Utility skills are rarely fun, weapon skills feel repetitive after a week on a weapon and elite specs would work only if we had twice as many by now. Having one new spec every 4 years that you might end up not liking is just a bad system.
I hear you although I contextualized the comparison between WoW & GW2 -- do you have thoughts on that particular comment?
I understand that not everyone will enjoy GW2's combat nor customization options (I personally am not fond of the various stat combinations nor the fairly simple open world content generally speaking). 💖
One thing to note is that while PvP does standardize stats, WvW (Realm PvP) does not

GW2 is a bit different than other MMOs. "Hearts" tend to be areas in which events tend to occur which is the hallmark feature of Guild Wars 2. I recommend looking for where event activity is and following the flow. 💖

I loved GW2 for years because grind was mostly optional. I found the Griffon to be reasonably tuned because it took you all over the PoF maps in a way that caused the player to feel like they're on a journey. But the SS? After running over Dragonfall 3x for collections caused me some burnout. 💖

If they handled the LW story content better i would give this game a go, but the nickel and dime why the do story seems kinda shitty why is there no way to buy it in a bundle access to all story content cost over 100$
It's only a one-time payment of US$110 at most for all story content in the game, which is a little over 7 months of a subscription to most other MMOs. Living World does need to be more obvious as a separate purchase, but the fact that it is a separate purchase is completely fine; especially considering the fact that they literally give them away for free to existing players. An entire season pretty much forms an expansion's worth of content, minus the elite specs that an expansion offers.
The Living Season model is confusing and ANet should include the episodes with its given expansion. However, as JM wrote below, comparatively, it is rather inexpensive and a way to fund a very generous FTP version of the game. 💖

9:10 There is no pay to win here. You CANNOT BUY Ascended or Legendary items from Gem store. You can buy MATERIALS TO CRAFT THEM - from Player's trading post. And like in case of some first generation Legendary weapons, you CAN buy gems, turn them to gold and then buy the total of 21 first generation Leggies - from Player's Trading post. This however does not make you any stronger than someone who obtained ascended gear from regular play.
Gem store only offers cosmetics and quality of life account upgrades like bank/inventory space/portals to specific areas. None of that makes you a better player, and a veteran can obtain all those upgrades - by using farmed gold to buy gems. And as a veteran I can assure you that gold is EVERYWHERE in this game if you are just willing to play.
Listen, you can literally farm enough gold to buy a Deluxe edition from within the game. What are we talking about here. If anything, it's the opposite of pay to win. It's farm to win. With dirt cheap prices on sale, no monthly sub? There is NO OTHER MMO THAT HAS THIS. It's not even a question to debate, next time someone asks "Is it pay to win?" you just say "Nope."

You can circumvent the grind by paying for materials that other players have farmed and put for sale and save only time. Or buy a first series(out of 3) Legendary weapon that someone else has crafted and put to sale - but miss out the large portion of achievement points that you'd get if you did it yourself.
ArenaNet has put alot of effort to lock "ultimate" gear and mounts behind massive questlines and requirements like Map completion to 100%. Game's just not pay to win, people can wave their money all day and will only ride a Griffon when they finish the huuuge questline for it 🤣

6:36 higher levels of fractals are exception, you need ascended or legendary equipment for that, because exotic equipment don't have enough slots for agony resistance. You could just dodge every attack with agony in some fractals but lets be honest new player is not gonna be good enough to do that.
You can start fractals with exotic gear that's fine but it will be much easier to get ascended gear than trying to progress without it in higher fractals.

I definitely Disagree with GW2 Respecting your time. Oh you want to try a new class? Well, Not only do you have to level it. You also need to gather the hundreds of Hero points you have already done, completely redo all of the map completion you have done etc. Trying a new class to see if you like it is a 100+ Hour investment just to find out you dont enjoy it. GW2 is easily one of the WORST mmos for respecting your time.
If the Hero Points were account wide, so that when you booted up a new character you could immediately try out all of your specializations to see if one clicked. I would agree with you on GW2 respecting player time. But as it stands. GW2 only respects the time of players who are already so invested that they dont need to try things anymore. They know what they like and dont like. Its horrendous for new players.

@@MarleMMO i disagree. In many mmos, the only process is leveling your classes. Once you level it. That is it. In the case of GW2. If you want to try Warrior for example. You need to not only level your class, but also spend 30+ hours going through and gathering hero points from every expansion so that you can try out the specializations. In this game, specializations are effectively the class. Gunsaber vs Spellbreaker are 2 entirely different experiences. In most games, they are so radically different from each other to warrant their own classes. But in GW2 they are the same class. So to truly experience warrior, you have to level them both. Adding tens of hours to the leveling experience.
@@rewt127, I suppose it depends how we want to slice the pie. Comparatively to the vast number of MMOs on the market, the total hours spent unlocking elite specializations with end-game gear I wager is markedly less.
Not only that, GW2 has many catch-up mechanics: level scrolls, XP boosts, WvW skill points -- and others I'm likely forgetting.

You can test by finish intro then jump to pvp lobby in that lobby it will unlock all thing to you and you can test it by your self with golem target

You can spend a half a day doing WvW collecting Testimonies of Heroics and turn them into the Heroics Notary in the Wvw main camps to automatically unlock the Hero Points in all of the expansions. They're cheap and easy. Half a day might even be too much time.

i gotta say you get enough gold to never have to pay a penny.
around 30g an hour is not unusual (when trying to actually make gold) which translates to 100gems.
a FULL BODY skin (wardrobe) is around 800 gems, and around 600 gems on sale.
I'd say playing 6-8h for a skin is pretty fair.

Octovine event is actually a nice sidething if you got time.
Every run provides around 3,5g and takes 10ish minutes.
It's low effort and (relatively) easy to do for everyone (even below lvl 80).
And if you are below Lvl 80 it'd actually a great XP farm as well. 1,5-2 LVLs per run is no problem

I haven't played GW2 in a long time... I've played FF:XIV, New World, currently subbed to WoW as an AGM and main Mythic+ Heals for my Guild, and I'm playing Destiny 2 instead because it's what I've been looking for.
But I can still safely say GW2 was the best MMO I've played yet (that Blizzard unashamedly and embarrassingly takes ideas from, after their players have long been dissatisfied). The combat was simplistic but rewarding even back then, and the world events were exciting; the community was super friendly and the game was designed so that players wouldn't hate seeing each other, like with WoW's faction-tapping targets or having to wait on respawns.
It looks like GW2 came a long way, from being great to amazing, and I like that I know I can revisit this legend of an MMO at any time.

@@ZER0_SEV3N Idk there's alot of things I'm unable to explain. Few things I can think of are probably because the world seems too themepark, equalized gear pvp, transmog is ridiculous imo. Also those bunch of systems accessible through tons of different UIs and all that. I may not be a huge fan of hard cap level/gear but I'm not too sure about that because I don't think most of the softcap kind of mmorpgs exist did it right. I also really like having factions in mmorpg. Overall I think mmorpgs really try to cater to casuals. That said, I've been noticing that the community often asking for stuff that I don't want in mmorpgs so I know what I don't like aren't actually bad. Just not to my liking.
You may consider watching my series on older school MMOs that avoid the trappings of modern titles with old school charm. 💖

Im a cheap broke, with the right timing and farming LOTRO allows me to access all major content for free. Not this one. No point with all these expansion mechanics and stuff if I never get to access them as a F2P.
Honestly If im willing to give the time to earn my access then give the access; better than zero.

Great video, but let me point out a mistake you made: you mixed up specializations and elite specializations. Specializations are passive skill trees that you can choose three of on a given build, and elite specializations (which you actually described in your video) are a variation of those trees that actually change the class's core mechanics and add new weapon proficiencies, and you can only take one elite in one of those three specialization slots.
I don't know if you intentionally simplified the term for those who don't play the game, but that was technically false. =)

You can put more infusions into ascended/legendary gear that give something like +5 power, ghostly aura. you can put 1 of each stat like power, condi, healing etc.. the auras even stack tho you can not put 5 +5 powers in they have to be a different stat.

Great for new players, bad for long time veterans. Raids are dead. Forget about them if you're into high-end pve.

The main reason I stopped playing this game was the pricing for the living world content. I bought the expansions, thinking that they would continue to the story but no, you have to spend more money (more than the total costs of the expansions).
ArenaNet does need to include Living Seasons into each expansion -- I fully agree. 💖

One thing to understand about PvP and WvW is that in its current state it is often completely imbalanced to the point of frustration. Rarely will it be one server versus another. More often than not one server has an organized set of raids destroying the other two servers to the point of people just not queuing in, or afking in the battle. PvP is often the same. Casual players can try to play unranked but half of the games will end up against a premade team of 4 that will stomp on you then poke fun in the map chat that both teams can see.
PvP is hit or miss for me. I generally enjoy GW2 for its PvE. 💖

Some pros of GW2: great action combat system, superior mounts, SUPERB fashion, 0 grind, 0 p2w, an humongous choice of classes, a HUGE variety of builds and choices of gameplay, even the same class can be played in a lot of different ways/roles, decent story for MMO standards, exploring and leveling up is genuinely fun and doesn't feel like a chore
Main cons of GW2: endgame is handled like shit. Years pass without any new raids of fractals, rewards are complete garbage compared to brainless open world metas, they constantly drop a project, start another just to drop that as well after a while. Aside from that, competitive modes (WvW and PvP) are rarely (basically never) updated with fresh content and mostly just "kept alive". Big shame because they both have immense potential. Also a lot of players could find themselves a little big aimless because the content is a lot but the game doesn't really encourages you to do anything
If you are looking for the classic, grindy MMO experience with a lot of vertical endgame progression, raiding and hardcore groups, GW2 might not be what you are looking for.
If you are looking for a more relaxed experience, maybe something to play between other games without needing to invest hundreds of hours every month , GW2 is a great choice. Mind you, GW2 still has good raids and endgame content, but it's a lot harder to find active competitive guilds and groups compared to other MMOs due to how bad the rewards are and how much time passes between each release. They also confirmed they won't be releasing new raids anymore and fractals (another engame instanced content) are on the same boat, so keep that in mind
Lovely balanced comment. Somewhat like watching particular shows for specific reasons, I tend to play GW2 /not/ for raids/strikes yet for the other content types it does well. With that said, you're correct that aspirational group-based endgame expands at a slow pace. If someone is looking for a truly massive amount of raid content, WoW or FFXIV is an obvious winner. But GW2 has no treadmill, so once you feel the itch to return, you don't have to play catch up! 💖
This is why I can't play any other MMORPG. It's the horizontal progression for me.
It's so nice when taking a break to come back without feeling left behind. ♥️
