Norwegian Bolshunov
Aaand he drops from TDS. 😂 They probably killed him making him do the 15k solo while everyone else was in a pack.
🔥
New Bolshunov?
I think everyone should have a healthy base diet that covers roughly the base metabolic consumption (your energy consumption without exercise) and then on top of that supplement with carbohydrate rich foods to reach an energy balance where you don't lose weight unintentionally. That way you do get the micronutrients (vitamins etc) but still get enough energy. Obviously eating pasta or rice is probably healthier than eating plain sugar, but in my experience you don't get to 5000 kcal/day without a lot of that coming from sugary foods. The last person in the video isn't really saying that you shouldn't eat junk, but that you shouldn't only eat junk.
I just can't take these AI voices on TH-cam videos! The content is good but that can't be a real guy.
I don't think Niskenen "lifts" his feet. I believe each foot elevates off the snow naturally because his hips are forward and, especially, because his knee is driven forward. This posture appears to be efficient, and it also results in the trailing foot/ski coming off the snow. I believe that no Nordic technique is aided by lifting the feet; rather, a foot/ski comes off the snow due to some other motion. In skating, it's the strong side push that lands the skier on the opposite ski with the pushing ski coming off the snow "by itself," so to speak.
Really amazing video! Thanks for what you're doing here on the channel.
I've never heard of using Z1 in a 5 zone system for anything else than warming up. 🤔 High volume low intensity was always referring to Z2/5 based ideally on LT1. (checked and updated regularly) Z2/5 ~= Z1/3 aka easy training, maybe that's where the mix-up comes from.
@@grega.n.1865 the American and Norwegian zones are different. In Norway, everyone uses zone 1 for low intensity training
I like to think that for athletes it's best to eat healthy food up to your base metabolism level and on top of that supplement with calorie-rich foods. So basically if you need 5000 kcal per day, then eat up to 2000-2600 kcal of healthy food and on top of that another 2400-3000 kcal which can be in big part sugar. (Pasta etc are great but try eating 3000 kcal of pasta...) Also you should eat sugar before/during/after you train to get good training results and not starve your muscles when they need energy the most.
You forgot the ped’s
A whole video on the zone one training would be awesome
Those are some impressive legs
Nice video mate. These things are not just important - they are crucial. Checked and confirmed personally. Happy New year!
Extraordinaire video, purposeful, informative and very well done 👍🏼 thank you very much for this
More over, he is a very charming and friendly athlete.
When you say to go harder in during low intensity workouts, how much are you talking? Around 75% of max hr or even more? Great vid
@@Billmelkstam yes, I mean in the mid 70% range, instead of the low 60s. But it shouldn’t be considered. You can train without a heart rate monitor, and just don’t give a shit about it. Focus on skiing properly for 1-2,5 hours, and it’s gonna work much better than trying to stay below this and that heart rate
Nice Video!
Thank you for sharing and sincerity! This “video” (actually, the talk) made me wonder who you are so I looked (for the first time) in the channel description but found nothing. If you have been up to 500 hrs a year and for 15 years total you surely must have done something. It would be interesting to hear your story (pls give a link if you shared it in some old presentation I missed). However, overall frustration that can be felt through this talk tells me that your expectations might have been higher than the achievements (perhaps?)…. Oh, boy…. Let’s just call it “genetics not right” (perhaps ;-)). You surely learned a lot of right things (hard way, but you surely learned). And you have done it way quicker than many of us (as of myself - only by retirement, when the body faded dramatically in comparison, and that s what s really pathetic). Sorry to hear that frustration though. Keep exploring, there s lot more to learn and the journey might be longer than you think :-)
Oh. Absolutely agree! 👍
Agree 100%! I only started skiing 3 years ago, my first 2 seasons I cross trained a lot, triathlon in the summer and only skiing during the winter and delegating waxing to my local store, I would usually finish 10-12 min after 1st place (10-15k races) this year I fixed my wax cabin, did over 2500km of roller skiing and let technique dictate HR, as the season started I'm down to 6-7 mins after 1st place, still long ways to go.
@@hueritocorona Exactly. Super-low heart rate training combined with versatility sucks! It’s based on traditionalism and is massively overrated

Поздравляю всех хороших людей, в том числе, искренних любителей лыж, физкультурников и спортсменов с Новым годом. Автору канала :"Спасибо за ваши труды".
Spot on .. I once raced pro in cycling ..the only slow day was recovery day after 5 days of high intensity rides ..= 150 km ang per day at a base of 3.5 kwt up steep terrain.with nordic there is very little recovery and certainly no drafting behind the big guys in the flats ... When it comes to mountains Power to weight is essential. .proper diet Certainly good sleep. Mental.strategies are unique.to.the individual.athlete but training at intervals ,hit and zones is relative to the athletes genetics and what outcomes resusult ..ultimately if youre not enjoying it ..take a re focus
@@willshaughnessy8515 totally agree 👊🏼 proper nutrition combined with high intensity training is what’s gonna make you faster
This video give me 24% for my skills
I'm an expert at preparing skin skis.
Lots of important info...under how you train and specificity...so few are aware of responsive kinetics, aka Iso kinetics. Keep in mind the training model of everything, SAID. Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demand. Responsive kinetics does require specialized equipment and a coach who understands the neurobiological adaptations you are training. This is transferrable across numerous activities and sports. The human body moves the way it moves. Developing a neuromuscular "base" and then high level activation and neuromuscular adaptations. Cutting to the chase and the discussion of the physiology involved, the activation response takes you into the explosive power range of reflex ...30 to 60 milleseconds to maximal force. What we do at FasTwitch Kinetics with VERT equipment
But, $kateX! (Edit: I have briefly demo-ed SkateX and believe it could very well provide a measurable performance bump, mostly from the added stability…but day-um it’s an expensive upgrade)
You made a mistake because Klæbo is always a year younger than you show him😅
best video ever😎(because Hjelmeset is in it)
Low heart rate training seems to work in distance running but not in skiing which I find interesting
Impact and running economy
That last part is on point. Just look at Tadej Pogačar. His long easy rides (zone 2 or I1) are avg. 300 watts as he said in one of the podcasts. Would he be such a beast if he was training at 150 watts? I dont think so. And the same goes for cross country skiing. Maybe even more because of technique. In my opinion it is important to go as fast as possible, while still going easy
Sorry, it is HIS 300 Watts, not ours. He is an outstanding talent and can do 300 effortless after many years of adequate training. His numbers are completely irrelevant, we can only try to understand the principles behind his success
@@roberthotter7008Yup, he’s doing easy rides at 300W because he reached that level, it’s not like he’s been riding like this since the age of 12 or so.
13:35 lmao
fantastic - takk
My vote goes to Niskanen. But slightly
Could you do a video of the top 10 skiers with the highest double poling watts? Maybe just a short
@@Lucaustin6blogs I don’t have enough data to do this, but I believe top 5 would be Skaug Mathisen, Nygaard, Bolshunov, Sundby and Niskanen
@ cool, what are their approximate watts in zn 3 if you had to guess?
@ I don't know about zone 3, but Sundby did 390 watts for 5k (16 minutes all out) in 2020. Nygaard did 300 watts for 2.5 hours
Who is the female cyclist throughout the video? Is she a skier?
@@owaddlez4488 Puck Moonen. 💦 Well known cyclist, and not a skier

Can you make a video on where to buy racing tights if living the U.S?
📢More like videos like this👍
Does it matter? Northug was better than both of them 😅
@@ubehageligt actually he wasn’t. He lost the majority of races to both. The record between Northug and Sundby in the 2010s was not even close. And yes he has more gold medals, but you can’t judge exclusively based on a few races. This “championship-magic” is just nonsense people believe in. You need to consider the total picture over longer time periods. There were many races when Northug was number 14-20, and the races he won were mostly mass starts. There were veeery few instances where Northug actually beat Sundby by having a higher average speed on course. It almost never happened
@xcskiing_universe you need to be champion to be king of a decade. Sundby won 1 championship... Cologna won 2 just in Sochi. Ohh and 1 thing more, Northug have never been disqualified by breaking doping rules 😉
You're talking more about training, not actually going out skiing - which is what many (most) Norwegians prefer. That means no prepared tracks although you may follow a marked trail - prepared courses are for after work, competition training or a Sunday stroll.
In his best he has Best classic technique in the cross country skiing history!
True🇫🇮🐐
Thank you for those comparaison. Niskanen and Bolshunov are pinacles of Classical style. Having them as reference gives us a wonderful goal technically, although very difficult to reach 😅
The avatar of Simo Häyhä!
Ebba has only 7 world cup victories? Which races did you count?
@@aarnisaranen local races, Swedish championships, world championships etc.
I’d say Frida has more top-end potential, while Ebba is much more consistent and better after fatigue (last days of OGs, WCs, Tour de Ski ending etc.) Both have their qualities and that makes races between them super interesting
FRIDA ÄR BÄST!
Bolshunov better overall racer, Niskanen vs Bolshunov a draw when looking at classic technique.
I watch Bolshunov on an Instagram page racing. He’s not at his typical level. Perhaps family is a priory now. Any information?
