So This Wasn't The Mandela Effect? (Jack Frost)
There were 2 different Jack Frost movies only a year apart from each other in 1997 & 1998. One was a black comedy slasher horror film while the other was a wholesome family movie. They both feature a bizarre plot about a man who gets into a car accident and transforms into a snowman. The 90's were a weird time.

What are manly tears? It’s the embracing of a male character showcasing emotion in a particular scene that understands that crying is inevitably part of the human condition. You Cannot Afford to be Average | Inflation Vs. Cost of Living

The average person with the average income and average debt as well as expenses, cannot afford the rise in costs of living due to inflation. This video is absolutely amazing, not only because of the facts that you state but because this applies to both genders as well! It's not that gender is the problem itself, it's the concept or the constant nurturing idea that media gives that woman = weakness, which of course, is absolutely not the case at all.

What Hollywood misses about strong female characters is growth and showing vulnerability. For example in Attack on Titan, Mikasa Ackerman a badass Titan killing machine is madly in love with Erin jaeger in season 1. When her friend Armin discloses that he died due to his cowardice she remains stoic. Later through the episode the pain of losing him gets to her. In her moment of weakness she is ready to be eaten. But a split second before that happens she overcomes her sorrow and fights back even when the odds are against her, later in that episode it’s discovered eren did not die. Mikasa runs to embrace him as she lets a long painful yet cathartic cry. That’s how you make a strong female character. A woman overcoming adversity while realizing and accepting her flaws and weaknesses. Not an untouchable god who can do no wrong (Captain marvel.)

I love how every time this conversation comes up, Riply and Sarah are immediately brought to the table. They are absolutely well written characters, but come on people.....dig a little deeper. They're brought up so often and regularly that they've become cliches. Here's the other thing. Everyone gets the wrong version of them. For Ellen Ripley, we always get the Aliens version of her. No.....its the Alien version. In Alien, she's a himanized character who basically becomes the final surviving character through luck. She is simply fortunate enough to not be in the wrong places. She does have to finally man up at the end when its just her and the alien though. In Aliens, she becomes a comic book super hero. The entire highly trained and equipped marine platoon gets wiped out within a day and a half, yet she becomes efficient with a firearm after a two minute lesson. She's still a good character, but she's more the type of "strong female character" that we are all hating on in modern movies. Same with Sarah Conor. In the original Terminator, she is an average scared girl who gets swept up in something that no one could deal with in that short amount of time, yet she finds the fortitude to just keep surviving to the next moment. In T2, she becomes a comic book super hero. When and where did she learn to confidently handle firearms if she was institutionalized after the first movie? Her character in the second movie is badass, but she's lost all since of her humanity. These are the two go to's as it pertains to strong female characters who are well written, but get the right versions of them when referring to them. And I still believe that if Aliens and Terminator 2 were made today, these two characters would be tossed on the heap of Mary Sues.

Like I said before when I write fanfics centered around female characters being the main protagonist, I don't focus on empowering her or molding her into a “strong independent whamen”. Yes, I focus on making her a strong female character with proper growth and good sex appeal because games like Neir, Stellar Blade, and DEAD OR ALIVE are living proof that sex sells and brings in more audiences. I remember getting so much hate towards my fanfic, only because I didn’t make Honoka from DOA a super smart and strong independent women and stuck to the source material of her personality of being sweet, bubbly and easy going, yet naive mixed with being an airhead who loves to fight. Yeah, Honoka is smart due to her knowledge of various types of martial arts, but they also fail to realize that she’s not entire academically smart. Let’s face it, people are tired of the same generic cookie cutter feminist characters, especially when femininity is heavily demonized.

Spiderman, Superman, Hulk, GL all have to deal with their powers as they develop. It was shown the hardships they overcame in dealing with them. Captain Marvel, Shulk, Rey never show that realistically. Unless Shulk's twerking was her dealing with it or captain marvel sneering a lot helped her deal with it. Do you really think Rey could really hurt Ren? Nope.

Genuinely, these writers should watch Justice League: The Animated Series to see how well female characters have been done. Wonder Woman is the perfect example of someone trying to do the right thing, but at the same time, has human emotions and makes mistakes that ground her. I can say the same thing about Hawkgirl as well. Also, I'd have them watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars to get a sense of another good female character in the form of Ahsoka Tano, who grew from adolescent Padawan to respected and mature hero throughout the course of the show, and she made several mistakes before becoming the best she ended up being. That is character development. It doesn't make them weak. It makes them human. That, in turn, makes them strong. If they have virtually no flaws, there is no journey to go through, and therefore, that makes them uninteresting.

How to write great characters: Don't write about "strong female, gay, lesbian, trans, black, asian, etc characters." Simply write strong characters. "Who" they are is more essential than "what" they are. "What" they are is the cherry on top, not the ice cream itself.

This reminds me of a story i wrote taking place in a dark fantasy steampunk modern-ish setting with swords, magic and guns. One character i wrote greatly depicts a strong female character named kalina Kalina is born without magic, despite her setback and lack of magic, she makes uo for it by using guns as a means to fight back, but she still has struggles with guns despite training with them for years and knows she isnt the best with guns, but she still makes it. She wears a elegents dress with a jacket over it and her hair tied in a braided bun with tall brown boots for comfort and movement. Growing up she envyed that her older sister was able to use magic and was regarded at being great with magic, this kinda grow to be a bit of a revivelry, despite the difference between the two, she learns that she isnt perfect, nor is her sister who still has a alot to learn from her actions. Despite failing and lossing, she learns from her mistakes to improve on whats wrong, coming up with new ways to outwit and bybass her enemys in a fight, sinces shes cant use magic and isnt that physically strong, she makes up for it by using speed, flexiblity and aim with her advantage.

Another good example of a "strong woman" is in the movie "Jolt" from 2021 In short, the main character, Lindy, has anger issues and with that problems with controlling reflexes, which results in her hurting people often. Thankfully her doctor made a vest that zaps her whenever she feels like she's about to break (except she has to manually zap herself) I wont say more, watch the movie yourselves fellas It may not be peak cinema and may be a bit absurd but its a good movie It can be taken as a Mary Sue tho

The difference is that a strong, female character is a rounded, good character that just happens to be female. That's it. Strong, female character is flawed and overcomes her obstacles with wit and bravery, she grows and learns from her mistakes. She might even waver and coward in the face of danger, but she pushes through. She's a human being. Mary Sue doesn't learn or grow because she's already perfect. She's boring to watch because she gets nowhere personally, she remains the same insufferable know-it-all, powerful, deux ex machina, plot armored character through all the ordeal.

Korra in TLoK is a good strong character who happens to be female. She was frequently her own worst enemy, extremely cocky but easily crushed by the weight of expectation placed on her and so prone to making hasty and often bad decisions in heated moments. Her strength came from the masters who trained her and the allies who supported her, when she learned to accept their help and adapt their teachings to her own mindset and this made her incredibly powerful in the end. I think the best thing about Korra was the crippling PTSD she got from nearly dying to Zaheer. This didn't disappear between seasons 3 and 4 but persisted canonically for the years that were skipped between them. They ended season 3 with her in a wheelchair and with this awful defeated look on her face. Seeing her able to walk and fight again at the start of season 4 showed her extremely determined side but the trauma was crippling in its own right. As much as season 4 did wrong, it never devalued Korra's trauma.
