The Man in the Black Cape
มุมมอง 2087 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an improvisation based on Sephiroth's theme, One Winged Angel, from Final Fantasy VII. One Winged Angel and The Man in the Black Cape are both alternate ways he's referred to which is where this title came from. Theme and Variations - Folías de España
มุมมอง 3238 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an improvisation over one of the oldest known western classical themes known as La Folía. The chord progression and simple melody that starts this out is the folía and the rest is a series of variations based on it that I improvised while streaming. The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
มุมมอง 274ปีที่แล้ว
This is another improvisation based off a popular song. This time it's Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. There wasn't too much melodic material but that bass line that everyone knows was perfect as a general motive. Can you play music WITHOUT hearing your instrument?!
มุมมอง 190ปีที่แล้ว
This was in response to a viewer who asked how it was possible that musicians in the past wrote music without having a program that plays back what they were writing. I ended up improvising without being able to hear my keyboard at all to demonstrate that it could be done. Green Day - Basket Case
มุมมอง 207ปีที่แล้ว
This is an improvisation based on the song Basket Case off of Green Day's album Dookie. I tried to make sure that some part of the song was present at every moment. I felt good overall about taking it to different places while still always having it connected to the original song in some way. Chrono Trigger - Peaceful Days | Classical Guitar
มุมมอง 941ปีที่แล้ว
This is one of the overworld map themes from one of my favorite games ever! Chrono Trigger's primary composer Yasunori Mitsuda has had a profound impact on me as a musician and his music has been in my ears since I was a young kid. Keyboard Suite in D Minor
มุมมอง 146ปีที่แล้ว
I've been focusing more and more on studying improvisation and most recently have been focusing on baroque music. This is my latest attempt at improvising an entire keyboard suite in a baroque style. I tried my best to follow along the typical format of a Prelude followed by different dance forms such as an Allemande, Courante, etc but it's still a huge struggle to stay focused on the forms! La Calle Oscura
มุมมอง 183ปีที่แล้ว
This improvisation is based on the music of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. After listening to and analyzing some of his music on stream for his birthday I decided to play something that took inspiration from what we had just heard. The title "La Calle Oscura" translates to The Dark Street and fits the atmospheric and melancholic mood of this piece which is something I often feel when lis...
Melancholy Fantasy
มุมมอง 5252 ปีที่แล้ว
This improvisation was done to express what I was feeling about a person who was close to me who was struggling at the time. The musical term "fantasy" refers to the free-form and improvisatory nature of this piece as opposed to something like a dream although it can have those qualities too at times. Jenny: 14 yrd old, walking home alone in the city in the dark, wearing high heels and lots of makeup (I'll cut the rosy off your cheeks). Dying was her "escape". Add it up
33:38 she was older cuz life was so hard-on her; he was a baby, screeching and wailing his way through life. Brilliant
Ok so he said he would not take down the music so why is is so low?
You're good at this format, Raffi. It's not beneath you. I don't watch live streams like I used to, but you have a ton to offer and I'd be happy to keep up with you like this!
2nd time, 3rd time, 100th time...whatever lol...great reaction guys. Yes, he resides in Brighton born in Bangor Wales.
🖤
I was passing for 18 at 14 as a young teenage girl. Getting served in pubs in the UK. Going clubbing etc. Girls look older at that age, make up has a lot to do with it to.
Ren..... a modern day bard. Isn't he brilliant.
Love #Ren, best new artist that isn't new but has taken a few years to reach this pinnacle, and yet it's not the pinnacle, just part of the story of Ren. What an enigma he is. My goal is to see him live, he is next level special, a gift to us.
#Raffi you play beautifully❣
I absolutely love your breakdowns of Ren’s music. I would love to hear your take on the Money Game trilogy and his work with Chinchilla! So happy to have found this channel.
Fun fact when Stevie was trying to open violets eyes the camera was originally blurry but then he opened her eyes and came to focus again. Aldo ren confirmed in a few videos that the reason screeches girlfriend and friend were busy was cause they were sleeping with each other
I would recommend "Patience", simply for the beauty and gravity of the song. Here's a link to the version that was used in the movie "Unrest" a documentary on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, which Ren was diagnosed with (wrongfully) before they found the Lyme Disease. th-cam.com/video/284ugnS_ruQ/w-d-xo.html - Ren circa 2017 - Ren is NOT pop music - Ren is Bard-Core. A storyteller extraordinaire with a message for everyone. Every song is layers upon layers. His fluidity between all "genres" is amazing.
#whothefisviolet😅
Im not a guitarist.... but is it just me who thinks that run he does as he walks down the stairs at the start of Screeches Tale seems like it would be hard while walking down steps?
You talk way too much. These story type songs need to play out. Watch it through and then come back for analysis.
Yes Ren is Welsh and he lives in Brighton England
Great reaction, thank you!! So many other reactors just don't get nor understand what this is about!!
One theory about why Stevie said, "Why are you always so quiet, Violet? Why are you such a liar, Violet?" is that Violet became pregnant by her father, which would understandably anger Stevie if he thought she cheated on him. Zero justification!! Just a theory about the story line.
what, if there is a concept, that belongs to the song and the guitar has just a background influence?
If you want to check out his singing chops, I'd recommend Chalk Outlines if you haven't watched it. It's Ren and Chinchilla.
most of his videos are one takes and he sings live. no cuts, no edits. obviously this is 3 seperate one takes but the production is cool
With all respect, Ren is not a one off. Hi Ren is just an introduction. I'm so thrilled Raffi, that you are aware of his work with others. I just encountered The Big Push earlier today and I am so hyped on what I heard. What did I learn from that? I learned that Ren has an amazing ear, which explains a lot to me. He can use what he hears in a context unlike where he heard/learned it.
The reason that he made Jenny seem older was because one he had to fool us to make the twist that much more impactful and 2 she was a prostitute. “Still as a statue in high heeled shoes” “she knew this town she knew this floor, cause she walked it about a thousand times before”
React to money game 1 2 and 3
Amazing reaction! Thank you! Fun fact: Knick knack Paddy whack is a children song, yes, BUT its background is incredibly sinister. It is about the multitude of punishments the Irish people had to endure during the Great famine (in the early 1800s I think).
You could react to Jacob Collier's Little blue next.
Ren is a modern day bard
Thank you. Lovely piece of music
I think Ren intentionally makes us assume Jenny was older, at no pint is her age referenced. He’s a clever little so n so isn’t he. Really enjoyed your insight to the guitar parts. Thank you 🫶
Watch money game part 1 2 3
Accent : I totally agree with the pronounced effect of REN’s British accent. It’s a mix of accents as he said once on Instagram. There are vowel sounds that are close to a more northern English accent, but some strong South Eastern English, even London cockney sounds. If there is a trace of Welsh it is very light as I can’t hear it. I’m from London with a parent who grew up on the Welsh border. Attentive as Ren is to detail, he no doubt makes use of the landscape of accents from the British Isles like another musical instrument.
He plays these live!
Spanish Flamenco is what I think I heard across all his music
Reggae you say??? Check out Ren's band The Big Push, I shot the Sheriff. Look for the one with him wearing red suspenders. I've been watching reaction videos for this for over a year and your the first person that's shown how he was picking at the beginning of Violets tail.
You sound like you are on the beginning of falling down the Ren rabbit hole.
Everything with Ren is an one shot live performance, Ren and his team choose locations carefully to exploit natural reverb from the surroundings. You will probably never come across greater artistic genius and talent than Ren in your lifetime.
Yes he is self taught but his father teaches medieval music on lute & lyre so I think that there is a strong influence there. Kids absorb music like a sponge.
What's really gonna hurt ur head is when u do the math. From when the songs were released to the dates and ages mentioned in the songs. Violet came out in 2019, in violets tale he mentions 2005. Jenny and Screech were 14. So 2005+14=2019.
Going pffft is a reasonable response lol Its tight.
One that is often overlooked is Crutch, he sings with ex girlfriend, Bibi. This was before his Lyme diagnosis and he thought he was dying. Subbed fir more. Love that u caught the time travel and Ren's one take genius ❤❤
Learnt it off the TH-cams 😂
The whole trilogy reminds me of something that Leeds born singer-songwriter Jake Thackray could have done.
Great job appreciating and interpreting this trilogy. It took a lot of us at least several times through to catch all that is going on here. 🎉
Extra background music during the talking is really distracting for me
All of this is one take
31:53 great catch
I've been waiting for someone to point this out lol
I've watched countless reactions to this, and as a guitar player I realllly enjoyed having your classical playing breakdown from the musician's point of view.. Easily one of my favourite reaction to this masterpiece. Thank you! Keep doing a great job 👌
100% mine too 👏👏👏❤️
I love learning new ways to appreciate Ren's music. Your descriptions are perfect.
Great video, first one of your videos I've seen. Really enjoyed it. I always got the first reverse time in the guitar. I'd never realized the second time.
