PBC rejects VONC motion from Opposition Side
Parliament was rocked yesterday as the Opposition launched a surprise Vote of No Confidence (VoNC) motion against Prime Minister James Marape, naming Sir Peter Ipatas as the proposed alternate PM. However, the Private Business Committee (PBC) quickly dismissed the motion, citing its redundancy under constitutional and parliamentary rules.
This marks the fourth attempt this year to unseat Marape, who further solidified his position by securing 79 votes in favor of a Constitutional Amendment on VoNC laws during the first reading. A notable twist came when Opposition MP Chris Haiveta sided with the Government, providing the critical majority vote needed.
This video delves into the unfolding drama, the political maneuvering, and the implications of the rejected VoNC motion. Stay tuned for updates as the Constitutional Amendment faces its second reading in February 2025.
📌 Highlights:
Surprise VoNC motion by Sir Puka Temu and Dr. Lino Tom.
Rejection of the motion under Standing Order 165 and Section 111 of the Constitution.

Insights into the ongoing parliamentary dynamics.

Mr. Backer cried foul tonight stating that the government has tried all its best to maintain numbers and has not tine to run the affairs of the country. The opposition here is to be blamed for forcing the government to proritise in maintaining numbers than giving its full-time attention in runing government affairs. The opposition is the main cause of instability in governments and lack of services. Opposition is power-hungry in introducing countless motions of no confidence in thi term of parliament. Once wise man sir peter ipatas has now become unwise and a laughing stock and redecule. Unbelievably Shameful!

These members are unfit to be PM. We need a fresh man to come and just steer the ship out of danger. They are pointing fingers at the people of PNG. In actual fact they themselves are the root cause of all the problems in this country. Better to check their own heart before pointing fingers and alter the laws of this land.
