I agree with the introduction to the Island of Awakening's use of visual tutorials and letting the player decide where to go and what to do. This game is how you make a sequel to a great game. Builders 1 was terrific but flawed in some ways, and this game irons out many of those flaws to "build" (mind the pun) a better experience for the player. 4:35 - This is something I didn't get. Why have a prominent enemy (final boss) from the second DQ game have the same name as your sidekick? Personally, I believe they should have used an anagram for his name if they wanted to use the same name. Maybe they were counting on bringing in a new audience who haven't played DQ II. If they hadn't shown the beginning part with the three heroes taking on the Lord of Destruction himself, there might have been more mystery behind this guy called Malroth. It's enough of a mystery, but they could have done more with it. 6:21 - Ah, Lulu. It begins. 31:06 - I found this cooking mechanic quite odd as well, but I have to say that the game does sort the waiting times for building or cooking items pretty well later in the game.
The prologue has some truly great moments in tutorials. It is therefore a little bit baffling that it falters on other parts. A bit of a spoiler, but there is going to be a couple of episodes where I am more critical of the beginning of the game, and especially the OG demo. In that sense the first Builders did it better. When I first played this game and I saw that my companion was Malroth, I was already dreading the end of the story. I was fully expecting the game to make him likable, so you get attached. Then all of a sudden they pull the rug from under you and I would have to go up against him in a one on one. I don't think I would have that dread if his name was an anagram. Mainly because I'm really bad with anagrams. I am so used to Builders 2 cooking now, that going back to Builders 1, feels really strange.
A new builder journey draws near. 7:55 - That would be a great way to have a secret ending right at the beginning of the game. 11:27 - Maybe they can say "S"s but rarely-something of a feat to pull off by one of their kind. 36:30 - I love these gloves. They make moving objects around SOOOO much more manageable. I got super excited that they added gloves to the PC version of the first Builders game, but they don't feel the same. Those gloves are nothing like these gloves from this game. 41:45 - Another thing I love about this game. The expressions of all the characters. There is so much more flare, so much personality. 43:41 - Truly, the final boss of this game. The unskippable text of doom! WHY CAN'T YOU SKIP THROUGH THEM?!!
Welcome Didi, I hope you will enjoy the journey. It took a while. Especially this first episode I recorded a half dozen times before I was somewhat satisfied with it. The Gloves are one of the best building tools they added to this game. Even if they added these gloves alone to the gameplay of the first game, I would have loved it already. But that the gloves are only the start of the quality of life improvements is just a hint at how much better this game is to it's predecessor. Yes, the characters are very expressive. It is unfortunate that the camera angle doesn't always allow you to see it that well. And I get a bit too claustrophobic for playing in first person view all the time.
does the garden have to be in the base?
If you are only interested in getting the chapter challenge, then the Cantlin Garden doesn't have to be inside the base. It can be anywhere there is a body of water and a fully grown Plumberry Tree. The reasons why I made the Cantlin Garden inside my base are: 1) Trees can only grow inside the border of your town. Thus outside the border you will have to decorate around the tree. 2) Inside the town you get to see the name of the room and how many points it contributes to the base level. 3) The NPCs use and visit the garden.
Finally caught up with your series. :) After watching your Terra Incognita content, I will probably not tackle it in my playthrough. The freedom to build anything is there, but I would rather play something with a story to it, though I might dabble in the mode in my own time. Nevertheless, you're creating some great, informative content. :) 2:12 That's so neat that you get huge standees of the DQIII character classes 5:18 Yeah, it's the female Sage. I remember the male Sage having a cape covering half his front. I always thought that look for the Sage was way cooler. 6:50 One thing I noticed and loved about watching your playthrough is having your future self (editing the video) argue with your past self while playing the game. I rarely see this done nowadays, but it is quite common in the early days of TH-cam gaming videos for correcting mistakes. NCS still does it, and it's great to see. 7:16 Wow, it's the Japanese version of the Priest sprite in DQIII. I remember the Priest being a Pilgrim in the version I played back in the day. Ugh, Nintendo and their censorship in the early days of the NES and SNES. 12:03 It's the female sprite of the Warrior. I remember The male sprite holding an axe while the female had a sword. Also, the male sprite looks meaner than the female one. 15:17 The Hero sprite is the same for both male and female options in the NES version. The sprites didn't change until the SNES and later ports. I was really bummed that both the male and female Hero had the same sprite in the NES version. :( Enix fixed that in the next game, though. 16:35 These sprites are from the Famicom version of Dragon Quest. I don't remember seeing any of these character sprites in the NES version. Oh, that's terrible. They only have the Famicom sprites as unlockables? It makes sense, but it's still a bummer. :(
Thanks, for the clarification on the sprites. I could mostly guess the details on them, because I only played Dragon Quest III on the Switch and only glanced a Sprite Sheet for the NES game. I live in Europe and Dragon Quest wasn't released in Europe until Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2, or Dragon Quest IV remake for the Nintendo DS. Thus it was much guess work on my part. The Terra Gladiatoria episodes were also a last minute addition to the series. I had nothing planned for it, besides the original episode I did in the beginning. It was just to show of it existed. With Terra Incognita I am also glad that I kinda modeled it after Dragon Quest Builders 2. In that game you had those intermissions between chapters, where you could freely build up the Isle of Awakening. I also used Terra Incognita as an intermission in between chapters to build a town here. If I had to do all of it as a fifth chapter after the entire series, I don't know if I could have pulled that off. As I will make clear in the next episode the building is a lot of fun, but the grinding for materials is a real slog to go through. This is something they improved upon in Dragon Quest Builders 2, with the infinite materials.
Wow I've got a new series to watch as I replay DQB! Looking forward to binging this over the next few weeks/months
Thank you, I hope you will enjoy it.
I agree that the island where you find Elle is terrible. This island always gives me trouble. I never thought about using wrecking balls on the holes to get rid of them more easily. 36:25 - I can feel your frustration. This part sucks.
Yes, I have used the wrecking balls before and it was as simple as going in put one down before or during enemies spawning and then run away. I thought that was easy peasy, but this video shows something else. I have been thinking of scrapping the recording and do it over. Load up an all save and make it go my way, with me blowing everything up. But then this video shows the raw frustration many have with this mission. What went wrong is that I ran up to close to the burrow and then wanted to place the wrecking ball on a wrong position. Which meant I had to move and this gave the burrows sufficient time to spawn enemies and have them attack me.
I can confirm that Myrlund does actually build things in the PS4 version. I finally made it to chapter 4 and was repairing the castle when Myrlund started building. Though the Princess has yet to make any food in my playthrough. :(
Great. When I was playing on the PS4 I only saw Myrlund in the Diviner's Den. Maybe because in those playthroughs I always did that quest first and I didn't take my time as much between quests, as I do now in this LP.
Hmm. I never considered the Four Horsemen when it came to this game, but looking back at the chapters, the theme fits well. Maybe that's why they fit both Kol and Galeholm into one chapter, seeing that they are on opposite sides of the northern part of the map in DQ1, or maybe they were running low on development time. Hauskness also got the short end of the stick, but that could have been purposeful, seeing that the town was already destroyed in DQ1. Whatever the reason, the Four Horsemen angle really does fit this game and its world.
I know. It was something I wanted to talk about from the first episode. Only giving slight hints each chapter as not to give away spoilers for each chapter. But I cannot say if the developers intended this theme or not. I have tried to read as many interviews as possible about the game and it didn't come up. Also every LP, review or other materials didn't mention this theme as well. I was about to wonder whether I was crazy or not. I was still a bit sad, that we didn't got to rebuild Galenholm. For Tantagel Town I was wondering whether we would get to build it attached to the castle or not. In DQ2 the castle and the town were connected and the town was at the west side, instead of the east.
This is decent!! Thank me later -> S M Z E U S.
1:15 It always rubbed me the wrong way that the opening to the castle is smaller than the steel door, so you have to accommodate the space to fit it in. 2:25 I never thought to pre-build the castle when the Banner of Hope wasn't there. I always build weapons, armour, and so forth for the journey into the enemy castle, but I never start to rebuild the castle. It makes sense, which you stated perfectly, that there are NO GHOSTS to bother you during building. 5:57 Getting Shot Silk has always been annoying for me. 8:41 I never had that glitch happen to me before. Hmmm. I wonder what causes it to occur. 15:10 This is the primary reason I always put lots of stuff in the Coffer. I'm just paranoid that I'll die, and I'll have to go all the way back to that spot to get my stuff again. 17:26 It's quite simple. The Boss Troll is a terrible boss to work for. :D
Yeah, I don't know why they made it only three wide. In the original DQ game the gate was 2 tiles wide. I think they never intended that you put in a door and that the castle would have a gaping hole. Or maybe they expected you to level the castle and build one from the ground up. That is to much work. I left that for the Terra Incognita part. The ghosts were the least of my worries. The monsters I was more worried about were the Rockbombs. They tend to leave a big hole in my castle when they decide to use Kamikaze :'(. I don't know what triggers the glitch that the Dark Skeletons do not show up. If I have to hazard a guess, I would say that I had the game running for to long already. By that time I had recorded several episodes and been building up the castle. Maybe a memory overload happened. It is really weird though. I can't say it is because of the Switch, because this is my first playthrough on the switch and I had it happen on the PS4 as well. Good one, I can imagine that the Boss Troll is a terrible boss. What surprised me the most though, was that in both DQB1 and DQB2 on the Switch the enemies seem to be quicker to agro the player than on the PS4. I am always panicking when I get swarmed by a bunch of enemies. Even when I fought one of the Legerdemon, the other one did not react. I guess I didn't get within the circle of detection. I should remember this because it makes that fight a lot easier, when you don't get combo'ed by their assaults.
I wish they put more dungeons like this one in the game instead of tons of small caves throughout the chapters. Putting some of the unique furniture items or some of the blueprints at the end of these more extensive dungeons would have been great. Of course, I can see why they didn't. They didn't want anything significant or notable locked behind a dungeon in a game that doesn't promote dungeon crawling. 7:40 *Play Dragon Quest curse music* I remember some challenge where you had to defeat the Dragonlord with the cursed equipment. I am trying to remember whether it was for the PS version, Switch, or both.
I agree some more of these dungeons would have been cool. We do have the pyramid in chapter one, Thalamus's vault in chapter 2 and the Lire of Slime Immemorial cave in chapter 3, but nothing as elaborate as the dungeons in this chapter. It's kinda sad. I hope that if there ever comes a Dragon Quest Builders 3, they will have an option where people can build dungeons for others to clear. The actual chapter challenge is to defeat the Dragonlord naked. You need to put the Hero's Shield and the Auroral armor into the Colossal Coffer before his second form. I don't know if the Cursed Equipment will survive going into the second phase. I do know that the sword of Kings is required. The cursed sword can eventually break when durability has run out. I thought only the Legendary Equipment can survive the transition to the second phase. Maybe I should test that one day.
I always walked back with the Princess anytime I played Dragon Warrior/Quest games. I always imagined that the Hero and Princess got to know each other along the journey back. When I arrived the first time and saw that I could make a furnace, that was my goal. I wanted better weapons and armour before going anywhere. This chapter is rough at the beginning.
Your imagination is more wholesome then mine was. I imagined that the hero had to carry her all the way, because otherwise her shoes and dress would get dirty. He would also need to fight all the monsters with her still in his arms. You can probably guess I am not much of a romantic. Your first time was better then mine then. I went with plain clothes and a cypress stick to the monsters to get the banner, because I wanted to build the castle with rooms. You can imagine that did not work out to well. Later when I got back there with better weapons and armor, I found all the stuff I dropped.
And so it begins. It really does take a while to get things going in this game. I really wish there was a way to skip all the tutorial missions that Pippa gives you right at the start if you want to avoid doing them in a second playthrough. I can see why they keep it, but still.
From a gameplay perspective the tutorial missions are totally unnecessary, because you are aware of them. However in the PS4 there is a chapter challenge that you have to complete the chapter in 20 days. If you collect a lot of mushrooms, grassy leaves, broken branches, plumberries, white petals, chimaera feathers, blue goo and earth. Make some changes to your base and prepare spots for specific rooms, than that tutorial mission that teaches you about time passing is a godsend. The day counter doesn't start until you have done that one mission. From a story perspective the tutorial mission are such a good foreshadowing of an exposition dump that you get near the end of the 4th chapter. The exposition Rubiss gives you about when she found you at the start of the game. And you finally learn what the Legendary Builder, and by extension you, really are. Why you have the power to create and are unaffected by the curse outside the banner's light.
Wow. You had no problem with the fight against the Condor. I had such a horrible time against it. I always did each time I played this game. Knowing that the Condor flies at the height of the tallest block in your town makes so much sense, and why I didn't understand how tall I had to place my ballistas. Knowing that the whirlwind attack can be countered by just standing under something makes so much sense. I don't know why I didn't think about it before. It's similar to when you a wings under a roof of some sort. You're very informative. I'm going to have to watch your series from the beginning now.
Thnx, I have to admit I had to learn that you don't have to build up that high from someone else as well. Because otherwise I would also still be building towers of 12 blocks high. About the roof part there is actually a note in the vicinity of the ballista on the final island that tells you about it. In general I think every boss becomes trivial to fight as soon as you figure out their tricks. The problem most often is to figure out their tricks. Except for the third chapter boss, his tricks are easy to figure out. But taking him down is still hard if you cannot control the Bashmobile very well. Luckily for me I have become rather proficient in controlling the Bashmobile that I now find it one of the funnest and most overpowered weapons to use in combat.
🤦 'Promosm'
Hello! Do you experience any frame drops while playing this game on the switch? Also, keep up the good work! :)
I am the last one you need to ask this, because when I enjoy a game I will not notice any framedrops. However I do think that there are some areas where the framerate drops. This happens in the Switch and PS4 versions. But the Switch version does run on 30fps I think, while the PS4 runs on 60fps.
Thanks! Have a good day!! Do not waste your time = 'Promo sm' !
How did you get the bathtub?
You just have to wait and regularly check the chest in your Stonemason/Blacksmiths Studio. The villagers eventually will build you one. The villagers know recipes you do not know.
@@zaeranos Uh no the thing is, I have already waited for like 20 game days for the NPCs to craft me some bathtub out of the treasury or the blacksmith studio. But all I have is stone window, wooden door, item display stand, equipment display stand, chimera feathers and ladders. There is no bathtub available. However I just discovered that it is able to obtain a bathtub from a minor golem, but that's very time consuming since the drop rate is extremely low.
I know about the little golems as well, however I have never managed to get it from them. I never had been so lucky. I do know that I got the bathtub relatively late in the chapter. I do not know exactly what triggers it, it may have to do with a challenge that you have to do like the Cantlin Garden. Or you have to build a specific room in town, such as the Pot Chamber, Master Bedroom or the Hammerton Hothouse. I always thought it had to do with story progression. But if you say it doesn't, than that debunks my theory. The only other thing is to build certain rooms, do some challenges or place some furniture. But because the trigger is not instant, it makes it very hard to figure it out. I cannot say with a definitive answer what does it now. Searching online hasn't helped me either. I have looked and the only answer I got was the monster drop. But I have never managed to get that drop. I do know that Terra Ingonita Stonemason workstation has a lot more recipes and you can build a bathtub there. I am sorry I couldn't be of more help.
@@zaeranos Hey thanks man no worries ;) Basically, I found that the dropping rate of Round Tables is much higher than bathtubs (from minor golems). I have farmed for around 2 hours and I've got 6 round tables and 1 bathtub. This looks to me like it will be impossible for me to get 3 bathtubs to make a bath room. However, an en-suite bedroom is possible. About the idea of completing all the challenges, yes, before I rebuild my city I already finished all the challenge quests in this chapter. However, I haven't made a Master Bedroom, a Pot Chamber, or a Hammerton Hothouse yet. All I have is after I took everything down with my mallet, I built a 2 story house containing a chill-out room and an inexpensive inn, a barbecue bistro, a treasury, a Cantlin Garden, a blacksmith's studio, and a museum (newly made). It is also probable that there are only times in the stages of the game will they build bathtubs. In my Tantegel after I got rainbow drop the NPCs refuses to build bathtubs lol, I guess there is probably some link between the residents' building choice and story progression. For Terra Incognita, yes. I have already made like 989 bathtubs or something similar XD. Free build mode is another story. There will be no scavenger-hunting.
A bathroom is impossible to do in the first chapter to begin with. At least I have never found any washtubs in the first chapter. You need a carpenter's workstation to build washtubs and you get that in the second chapter. I have only found 1 bathtub in the second chapter, which is not enough for a bathroom. As far as I know the Bathroom room-recipe is exclusive to Terra Incognita.
This game intrigued me, i will play this game as soon as possible💙
Definitely play this game and I hope you will enjoy this as much as I have.

Omg dude your hysterical! I love this channel soo much and you deserve soo much more views and subscribers! I haven’t finished watching your Shantae series but I love it already! Keep making vids bud
Thanks for the comment. I know you cannot see it, but I'm blushing at the moment. It is good to know you like the video.
This was incredibly painful to watch. Keep at it!
Yes I know. But this is what you get with me when there is no tutorial to go through or a manual to read. This is how I figure out games.
C'mon man... you can't pick the hot chick and then die while playing as her
I'm sorry. It has been years since I last played this game. Just wait until I get to Zack and Kimberly, I'll die more often, with the potential of a game over. I'm the best with Jason, however I want to show of all the rangers. And yes, Thuy Trang was a very beautiful woman. I hope you still enjoyed the video.
I thought it was that. Personally as unmorphed characters I think billy is the worst and trini the second best, only beat by Jason. Trini has some speed and reach unmorphed and her hitboxes aren't weird. However as a ranger, her daggers are somewhat short reaching. Then stage 3 I think is the hardest stage of them all, due to that really obnoxious level hazard. So using Trini on stage 3 is not the best choice. Although my choice of using Zack isn't that much better. Stage 3 is just a big hurdle.
@@zaeranos Lol I just realized I downloaded the Japanese version of the rom. Everything is still in english but the title screen is slightly different and you actually take more damage. Was wondering why it felt so hard lol You might be right about stage 3. I kept dying with unmorphed Trini so I thought she sucked but that level is like a death trap with the floating debris, spiders and flying drills. I think every character sucks on that level. Good luck. I'll give Trini a try on another level
The Japanese version? Shouldn't that be Kyuryuu Sentai ZyuRanger then. Didn't know they also had a Power Rangers version. But if you take more damage, it probably isn't for me. I like games that are a bit more relaxed. Or they have a "second player anytime" option, like MMPR the Movie for the SNES has.
This game got very average reviews and I can see why. This game just doesn't live up to the potential that it has. Playing it for a bit you can see what they wanted to do with this game and how ambitious the idea is. However it just doesn't live up to its potential. It has a lot of potential for different action, puzzle solving and just allround gameplay. And the story up to what I have played has a good setup. Too bad this game was published by Nintendo and not Ubisoft. Ubisoft would have doubled down on the potential and made a better sequel. Nintendo abbandons it and goes back to Mario and Zelda.
OKay, this was recorded from the original Xbox. After I was done editing and uploaded this video, I remembered to check the Xbox One compatibility. And this game is backwards compatible, so I could have recorded it on that and have a better image. My apologies, I guess my mind wasn't completely clear from being sick.
Btw the version I got had some art work inside the cover with a little manual! Maybe you didn't get it because of regional differences...
Just went to my local game stop and picked this up! This will be my first time playing a shantae game!
Now that Super Smash Bros has gotten the title Ultimate, this means that this is the last entry in the series and there won't be anymore. Or at least none that will be better than this one XD. But then again it cannot be Ultimate without a mode similar to Subspace Emissary.
I am interested in what you thought and especially about their cooperation with Hit-Record. So leave it in the comments below.
Okay guys, I just learn that Skyrim on Amazon Alexa is no joke. Or it was a joke, but decided to realize it after all. That is just fantastic. I guess Bethesda got some credits from me after all. www.amazon.com/dp/B07D6STSX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1528691018&sr=8-1&keywords=very+special+edition+skyrim
I am curious about what you guys think of Microsoft's conference. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Did you enjoy EA's press conference or were you bored out of your mind? What were your expectations going in? And what happened to those expectations during the presentation? Please let me know in the comments.
+Zaeranos I have acknowledged the rarity of the original Shantae Half-Genie Hero: Risky Beats Edition and I have chosen to get a total of two copies of this Shantae Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition just in case it becomes just as rare. :) If it does not become rare, I will not be fussed as I am a proud collector of these kinds of editions regardless of what happens.
Yeah, I know. It is one of the reasons I got this version as well, even though I already got it from the eShop on the WiiU and Switch. One store here still has the USA import version of the Risky Beats edition for the Playstation Vita. However my wallet has its limits and the coming moths are expensive as hell with good games.
I managed to get a copy of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse for free on the Nintendo Wii U by posting quickly in a giveaway thread on a forum where someone was generously donating spares from a Humble Bundle.
Oh man, you were lucky then.
I really can't wait for mine to come here tomorrow
Yeah, the art book is really wonderful. It has shown me aspects of the game that I didn't notice before. I was probably too busy actually playing instead of stopping to appreciate the view. Have you played the game before or is this going to be a fresh experience?
I played a bootleg cart of the gameboy game as a kid! so its not my first time with the franchise. Though ive never played any of the newer games! I cant wait :D I could get it on pc for WAY cheaper but its not the same as playing on a Nintendo console :^)
AMAZON DELAYED MY ORDER INDEFINITELY I CRI
Ah, that sucks. Do you have other venues you might be able to get it? Personally, I don't use Amazon. They aren't really situated in the Netherlands so delivery takes way to long. However we have a pletora of webshops and a number that specialize in videogames. I usually get my games from there. Or just take my bike to an actual store and get it there. It's interesting. Before this game I also only played the first game. However my first experience was with the 3DS eShop version. I can say one thing though, don't get your expectations to high. There are some substantial differences. The first 3 games had a Metroidvania style of world. Half-Genie Hero ditched that for a more episodic level based structure.
ehhh not quite. i'll be waiting about a week or two before i can go and buy it again anyway. And really interesting! i usually order online since im too busy to go to a store to buy games D:
I originally had this planned as a side series next to Shantae, however Life happened. Now this is my new Let's Play series. I hope you enjoy it. And because I don't really know what the story is going to be I would appreciate not being spoiled about future events. Still I would like to know what you think about this game.
Okay, after six video's about something else. Three of which are unboxings. It is time to resume this Let's Play.
It has been 13,5 years since the release of Metroid Zero Mission, which was a remake of the first Metroid. So I guess it will be somewhere in 2031 when we will get a remake of Super Metroid ;'p. I have been playing the game now for a couple of hours and I am really enjoying it.
You need to pull cartridges out from one side, not the center. Here are instructions (seriously): th-cam.com/video/v-mz1UJzgdo/w-d-xo.html The NES cartridge slot is typically the one with the tightest pins, and over time it's possible you will pull pins out and render it inoperable. I would recommend getting the Cybergadget NES-to-Famicom adapter ($20) and leave it in the Famicom slot permanently, so you won't need to deal with the NES slot at all.
Hé thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. I don't know what is worse. That Hyperkin never included propper eject instructions in the first place or that the video needs to exist in the first place.
Okay, during the 6th Global Testpunch session I tried to play with the Pro Controller, however after 5 to 10 minutes I gave up. Using the Pro Controller is far inferior to the motion controls. In addition the servers seemed to lag even worse than the 5th session. It really sucks when you see the opponent blinking right in front of you and initiating the charge attack. Completely out of nowhere.
Well, after having had a couple of weeks of only Switch videos, it is finaly time to continu this let's play. I hope you enoy it.
Well, I guess this is the last of my Switchmas videos. Unless I change my mind again. However I think it is time to get back to our regularly scheduled program of let's plays. That is if Zelda doesn't take up all of my spare time. ;'p
A little gameplay of a good Playstation 4 game. I hope you enjoy it. And I'm always open for some constructive criticism.
A new video for my Let's Play of Conker's Bad Fur Day, I hope you will enjoy it.
In this gameplay video, I attempt to show the asynchronous gameplay between the television screen and the WiiU gamepad. Let me know what you think of it. I hope you enjoy the video.
Conker's Bad Fur Day will be my new let's play. I have never played this game before so I am excited to see what it has in store for me. I also hope you will enjoy this as well. So happy viewing.
