Amazing piece of US history. I just found out today, that my grandmother was born in Packard in 1923, and left in 1944 for Florida. Their family name was Hudson I believe, she was Sulane, and my great grandmother was Louise.

I have always wondered about this phrase. Once our uncle came to visit, we dreaded his visits. He was a loud mouth braggart, daddy said you couldn't get a word in edgeways when he talked. He was often one drink away from being staggering, mean drunk. One time mama said he was drunk as Cooter Brown again. We kids asked mom who Cooter Brown was, she stopped and thought about it a minute then said I don't know but he's always drunk. We asked if he was coming to visit, mama said have mercy! I hope not! That's why we kids always wondered about Cooter Brown. Thanks for telling us about this. Stay safe and GOD bless
