I would definitely go to Alaska with any type of cabin. There's no question that having a balcony is a plus, but isn't an absolute must have. I went with a balcony on my first Alaska cruise and an ocean view on my 2nd - I enjoyed both trips. The biggest plus to the balcony was being able to set up my GoPro to do a timelapse and having a place where I knew I would have a "front row" view in Glacier Bay. Having had my budget adjusted by circumstances outside of my control in the middle of last year, I may not be booking balconies in the future and would definitely prefer to go on a trip with an inside cabin than not go on a trip at all. Hopefully HAL will continue to send me free cruise offers :).
Free cruise offers?!? You must have either gotten some great spa services or spent significant time in the casino 😜
@@ThisistheCruise yeah, probably something like that 🤣
I love what you say at the end about cruising in an interior cabin if that is what's in your budget!!! Let's normalize this!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks, I really appreciate it. I get so frustrated when people are excluded. A cruise may be a once in a lifetime vacation that someone saved for years to go on. Let's not make anyone feel "less than" because they don't have the same opportunities others have. I really appreciate the comment!
Hello, we are on Serenade of the seas with Clint Rating of 85. However, the sail date is 07/20/25. Is that still a good option or should we change and move it to alternate dates?
I wouldn’t rebook. That itinerary looks nice. I wish it was going to Hubbard glacier, but you will get some glaciers in Tracy arm, which is very pretty scenic cruising! Plus you’re going to Skagway. It’s a nice itinerary for sure!
My family booked an Alaskan cruise for late May of 2026 on serenade and we noticed that 2 glacier itinerary in 2025. We were really hoping that 2 glacier itinerary would be in 2026 but after the schedule came out and it was not to be found I reached out to RC for them to confirm that it wouldn’t be coming back in 2026😢
We are going on the Feb 8th Cruise, glad it made the one to do list fyi, Sea days are great! Love them!
I hope you have an amazing time!!!
Loved the video but as a new viewer it would be nice for you to include a scale at the bottom when you are giving these itineraries ratings, as I have no idea if a 2.3 is good or bad.
Yeah, this was an early video for my channel. I've completely reworked the scale and algorithm, making it much more robust. I'll be doing a new version of southern Caribbean itineraries soon. Thanks for watching and sending in feedback!
Geiranger fjord to me is the most beautiful.
Agreed!
Great video, really helpful. You mentioned that the Ovation itinerary is better than the Anthem one. Would appreciate it if you could elaborate. And if I were to choose one of the Anthem sailings, would you recommend Skagway instead of Ketchikan? Thank you.
Thanks you for the comparison. I love the beauty score!
Thanks so much! Creating this series revealed the gap I had in my scoring system, so it's been completely revamped, and now all destinations have a "Natural Beauty" score - making rating these itineraries much more precise for me. (I'm working on an updated Norway video for the 2025/2026 seasons).
I'm wondering if they have the clean bill of health now?
Which line/ship are you referring to? (Typically it doesn't take long to get things all cleaned and sanitized). - We’ve had a few embarkations delayed because the crew had to deep clean the ship after a norovirus outbreak from a previous sailing. Fortunately we’ve never had an issue with cleanliness or sanitary problems.
Hi! Very nice video! I wanted to ask. I’m interested in doing a Norwegian Fjord cruise in 2025 or 2026. The Celebrity Apex looks a very nice ship to do this. What do you think is the best itinerary they offer to go there? Tia
Thanks so much! What do you hope to experience most on the cruise? The Apex does have some good options - and I'm more than happy to give you some input. Do you have any date restrictions that are out?
@ thank you! Like you said in your video, I hope to see a good combination between the deeper fjords and the coastal cities. Not 1 of the 2 too much. Possible dates to go. 2025: July, August and September. 2026 : May between September. I think I saw a good one with Geiranger Flam and Bergen in one itinerary september 6 -13 , 2025, but I’m afraid it’s too late on the season. 7 nights is possible or bit longer too. Thanks for your advice.
@@ThisistheCruise I also saw the MSC Euribia with copenhagen, geiranger, flam and Alesund. What do you think about that?
@@ThisistheCruise could you already had a few mins time to take a look at the apex and the msc euribia itinerary? Thanks you!
@lorri4 yep! I haven't forgotten... Just been traveling with my family. I was able to go through the Apex options and am quickly reviewing the Europa choices next. Stay tuned! 😃
I must be an anomaly in the cruising world as I actually prefer fewer ports of call and more days on the open sea. I have traveled by backpack as a young adult and have done several trips to Europe in the past. Ports of call are almost always tourist traps for me and there is never enough time to really explore the area. Each time I have travelled, I developed my own itinerary before leaving and used a guidebook or two of my choice. I always sacrificed some degree of comfort so that I would have more time on the road. Two star hotels instead of three star hotels could mean that I had five extra days in Greece to discover one more hidden gem. This all being said, I have always wanted to spend a couple of weeks on the open ocean; even contemplated renting a room on a freighter going across the Pacific. Anyway, I just discovered reconfiguration cruises and am wondering if anyone else has taken them. If so, what did you think of your experience?
I am thinking about taking this ship's reconfiguration cruise from Tampa to Italy. Can anyone recommend the best site to use to get the best price? I am going alone so I guess I'll have to pay double for my room. Any suggestions?
Great info. When will part 2 be released? Interested in what other lines to consider?
Looking at the middle of January for that one. (Taking a little time with the family this week). If you're wanting something that does a better job presenting Alaska, with more enrichment opportunities (chances to learn and explore), look at Holland America. They're one of the few lines that can visit Glacier Bay - and that shouldn't be missed. But their ships are more "classic" and don't have all the amusement park-style activities. It's worth taking a look for sure!
This is such a unique itinerary and ship due to its smaller size and ability to go through the narrow channels and places the large ships can not go. I believe the Seymour Narrows turns into the Johnstone Strait on the north end of that section/journey for anyone who goes on this ship. If so, people on the ship will want to be on the front but left side of the ship as you first pass the Wildcoast Adventures Orca Camp and, after that, the Robson Bite Ecological Preserve. That Preserve/spot is where the Orca Whales come up to rub their bellies on the smooth rocks along the bottom floor near the shoreline. We did a multi-night camping/kayak excursion over there and it was so neat to see the Orcas having fun like that. After that, go to the front but the right side of the ship and look for Hanson Island. If you see Kayaks brought up the shores, then get the binoculars to look for the other campsite and wave to the kayak/campers on their adventure. Finally, right after Hanson Island, the ship will probably veer right, and in that channel, Orcas show up a lot as they swim through the two channels to connect between Hanson Island and Mitchell Bay/Malcolm Island. In general, be on the lookout for Orcas all throughout this portion of the journey if you can because this is the area most famous for potential sightings (but of course, nothing is guaranteed with nature). Thanks Clint - your videos are so good and I really appreciate the time (hard work) you spend with the google maps and pinned items and everything. I hope Cruise lines start offering more options like this, but during June-August also because I can go anytime, but my core travel friends still need summer options when school is out.
WOW! Thanks so much for the insights!!! (And the support!!!!). These tips are amazing - and I'm sure will be put to good use - maybe even by me. ;-) I love these types of itineraries too, and hope more come up during easier times to travel. I get that the lines want to maximize the number of people on the ships during peak seasons, but I'd like to see the smaller ships (like this at least) to be used for more expedition-focused itineraries. 18-days is a bit of a stretch for us at this time of our lives (not retired yet - that's quite a few years away) - but this particularly itinerary seems like a "book it now and ask for forgiveness later" situation. :-D Thanks again!!!
Booked for the August 2025 14 day Caribbean cruise. Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba, Barbados, Dominica, St Maarten and San Juan. Can’t wait. Cruising out of FL and coming back into NY.
Nice! Those are some great stops! We absolutely loved snorkeling in Bonaire and shopping in Curacao. Dominica is beautiful - and we love visiting Old San Juan.
I have been on several Alaskan cruises and to the Alaska interior and using the Marine Highway System Ferries and I was smiling the whole time when you tried to take away the complexity of choices. It is disappointing to try find a 14 day cruise to click through on several to find out later on it is only a repeat north/south with the same stops OR that it is really a 7 day cruise with land days counted in the search website being used. So, with that said, what a fantastic video! I learned a lot from what you found out and investigated. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm working on a 2025-2026 video now that mostly focuses on the 7-days. Then I'll follow that with another video looking at the 14+ day options. If you haven't yet, check out my review of HAL's 18-day Alaska itinerary. th-cam.com/video/QdrdDCW75kE/w-d-xo.html - it looks absolutely incredible (and unique from most of the other offerings out there)
We are taking the Constellation in February 2026 for the Mardi Gras sailing , with Progresso as a stop. Something different and we are looking for it.
I think that sounds great! It's a really interesting way to visit Mardi Gras for sure! Definitely sending up my prayers today for the families of the lives lost and those impacted early this AM in New Orleans. (definitely a freak occurrence and wouldn't change my plans...) But, stay safe - and have fun!
Hi there! You mentioned 9/19/25 for Radiance of the seas but I couldn’t find it on the schedule. Is there another date instead? Also, I didn’t see a round trip for this cruise ship from Vancouver, but only 1 way either southbound or northbound.
Sure thing - hopefully TH-cam will let me post the link here. :-)- you may need to select the text and copy and past it into your browser if it isn't clickable. Regarding Round-Trips that are 14-days, that's simply two back-to-back bookings (northbound, then a southbound). RCL doesn't do a good job listing them on their website (unlike Holland America and Princess). You'd need to work with your travel agent or RCL directly to book one of those. Here's the link to the Sept 19th date: www.royalcaribbean.com/cruises/itinerary/7-night-alaska-adventure-from-vancouver-on-radiance/RD07YVR-248500532?sail-date=2025-09-19¤cy=USD&country=USA&search=startDate:2025-09-01~2025-09-30#step=0
Super helpful again, as always! Last year I watched your 2024 Alaska cruise reviews to help select our 2025 cruise--the May 4 Serenade sailing (mentioned in this video!) that Radiance did last summer. We went with RCL because it was a killer deal at the time (a third of what the same sailing is going for now), and because I was excited about Haines, though they then swapped Haines for Prince Rupert and moved Ketchikan's docking to Ward Cove--a lesson learned in how cruise lines can make changes to your ports at whim! Still very glad to be going to Alaska at a bargain price, though I think next time we'll go with Princess or HAL and see Glacier Bay.
Love it! I hope you have an amazing time!!!? Thanks so much for commenting!
Glacier Bay is definitely worth seeing!
I am making a reservation now, and not sure about the Radiance of the Seas vs Ovation of the Seas. Ovation of the Seas looks bigger and more modern, while it doesn't have inside passage.
That's correct. However - tomorrow morning at 8:00am central my RCL Review for the 2025-2026 season goes live! I hope that helps. (For what it's worth, the only way to get the Inside Passage is to cruise from Vancouver - and RCL is only doing that with their smaller ships - with one exception - Ovation of the Seas. That ship is only doing one-way itineraries - 7-days from Vancouver to Seward, then 7-Days from Seward back to Vancouver.) If you really want the Inside Passage - and I think it's great(!) - go with Radiance. If you need a "resort ship" because you'll be traveling with a younger family, then you likely have a better time on a newer ship from Seattle. If you're traveling without kids - I'd honestly recommend looking at Holland America. No one does Alaska like they do - plus you can get Glacier Bay on the itinerary, which is not to be missed. (Royal does not have access to Glacier Bay)
Great and helpful video ! Just got an email from Princess on Dec.17th. There's an itinerary change for our March 8th cruise on the Sun Princess. They are substituting San Juan for Turks and Caicos due to port congestion. What are your thoughts and ratings for this ? My wife and I are worried that as a result we won't like it as much. Thank you so much.
Hey - thanks for reaching out. Princess isn't the only one having to shuffle around due to port congestion (and construction) in San Juan unfortunately. The big question is - what do you like? Turks is nice for a relaxing day by the pool, beach, or snorkeling. It has a nice resort feel to it if you stay in the port area. (I've been there a bunch. We get off the ship - do a little walking around/shopping - then hit a bar by the pool to relax with a drink (we try to find a more quiet place). We've also swam with stingrays and snorkeled there - which we love doing.) That being said, I love San Juan for the history. Walking around Old Town is wonderful and very enriching. The rainforest is nice, and the bio-luminescent kayaking is incredible if you're there at night (which I know you won't be this time - but maybe next time!) So - just set your expectations to "vacation/relax - mode" and you'll have a nice time in Turks.
Interested in the itinerary I’ve done the resort with the swimming pool and I feel like you can do that on the ship and we’re just not a huge person. I can do it for a day, but I’d rather do something learn something something and maybe not see something.😂
Yeah - I'm 100% with you there. Getting off the ship, to simply have the same experience you could have on the ship, seems like a bit of a wasted stop.
We just got back from the Rhapsody 7 day out of PR. Maybe because I’ve done several cruises to the Caribbean lately but the islands all seem to run together if you don’t do a “history” or sightseeing excursion. Going from one beach on an island to another beach on another island is 🥱 The one island I have wanted to visit on an itinerary is St Barts but that hasn’t happened yet. The wife and her girlfriends do all the planning so… I think our next trip to the Caribbean will be for a week on one island..maybe St Barts, rather than cruising to multiple islands. Did that 11 day out of Miami this time last year all the way down to the ABC’s and back. OMG…WAY too long for me. 7 days is max. By day 9 I was ready to go home.
Great video. I look forward to your upcoming Alaska cruise reviews.
Thanks so much! - It releases tomorrow morning!!!
And Juneau isn’t the only state capital to not be accessible by road. You’re forgetting Honolulu.
True - particularly when considering from the contiguous 48. (We often stay in Kapolei and get over to Honolulu frequently - So this is somewhat a matter of scale. :-)
FYI it’s pronounced “Valdeez”, not Valdez (ask a local). And there are no bear tours in Kodiak. The bears are on the northern part of the island, several hours away.
LOL - yeah - I can barely get my english words right. (Norwegians were very kind helping me correct my pronunciations on my Norway cruise videos :-D ) And thanks for the Kodiak tip!
We are booked on that cruise! Can’t wait. Sounds so interesting .😊
Love it! I just need to convince my wife we need to go too!
In my view this is the best itinerary for Alaska I have seen. Love the Sept date. I can only imagine how beautiful the cruise is in full blown fall color season! Thanks for this review!.
Of course! Happy to do it!
Fed up of Nassau/Jamaica/St Thomas/St Maarten............. Prefer the southern ABC's but even that...... Perhaps 2 straight days at a private island, old San Juan.
I'm not quite there, but I completely understand! - (to me the virgin islands on average are so much than anything bahamas - and Jamaica is really hit or miss)
Thank you for your hard work 🎉🎉🎉
Happy to do it! (and thanks for the engagement! :-) )
Woohoo I was mentioned!
Of course… and likely in some other episodes too!
And Clint, what's wrong with staying on board? That is my best time. The ship is quiet, the restaurants are all open and peace, blissful peace.
Actually, absolutely nothing wrong with staying on board... The only time I'd say to definitely get off the ship is if it's a place you've never been. Even if just for a little bit, get off to experience someplace new, then hop back on board!
just started watching this video, i'm borrowing some tips for my sales pitch.
What are you selling? :-D (and glad I could help!)
The ships and descriptions are backwards
Ahh. Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes it happens when I'm editing
I’m on the 12 Night Ultimate Caribbean and The Americas cruise❤
I'm sure it's going to be awesome! Let me know how it went when you get back!
Hi, Thanks for the great Norway summary! How would you rate the Sky Princess Norway cruise leaving Southampton on 6/28/25 for beauty please? It's sailing to Haugesund, Skjolden/Sognefjord, Olden, and Aalesund. Thanks
Wow, that’s an amazing amount of work. Thanks for explaining this.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!!!
Been on Infinity, Summit and Millennium. Sailing Constellation in April!!!
Nice! I hope you have an amazing time!!!
I really dislike the Equinox. Thou its a nice ship, every time I sail I had noise issues with my cabin. Whether its a banging crew door or loud neighbor.
We had a similar experience on the Reflection - fortunately it was always in the morning, and we're morning people - so we just rolled with it. But I was imagining what it would be like if it was a new cruiser... it might freak them out.
I just got off Celebrity Summit in San Juan. They no longer dock at Pan American port. They dock right in Old San Juan now.
We had the same experience - when we got in on the Summit (one way from Fort Lauderdale) - I was pleasantly surprised!
I'm on the 7 night January cruise and I got a deal for $722 inside total, which included all taxes and port fees. I'm a solo cruiser. It is the cheapest 7 day sailing I've ever found. So like 100 per day to sail.
That's awesome (and quite rare!). As a solo cruiser, is there anything you particularly look for (that's directly or distinctly) related to solo cruising?
very cool website
It's coming along nicely - just need to get a few things ironed out.
This is very helpful!
Awesome, thanks for the comment!
This is very helpful. I really enjoy your thorough review of itineraries. I'm trying to plan an Alaskan cruise and not sure what are the places I must see. This helps me narrow it down.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it helpful!!!
Will be cruising on this ship May, 2025 and can’t wait!
Nice!
I'm booked for December. First celebrity cruise 3rd overall cruise. The itinerary is what sold me oan the price 😂😂
The itineraries look great, don't they? What other lines have you cruised?
@@ThisistheCruise first sailed with NCL, then CCL. NOW Celebrity.
That's the reason I will not do a big ship
I agree
