CA20-2k Battery tab welder triggers but doesn’t weld - fixed
I purchased this low cost battery tab welder but it didn’t work out of the box. It appeared to work, but no matter what power I set it to it didn’t weld. I tried a lead acid 12v car battery, as well as a lithium jump starter. The lithium jump starter reads 17v and has been working awesome as the power source for years, once I fixed the battery tab welder!

2006 Jetta TDI takes a while to start (three or four cranks before it starts) - fixed
มุมมอง 2.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
If your Jetta tdi doesn’t start on the first turn over, you may have an issue with the camshaft position sensor, or more likely an issue with the wiring, which was what my issue was. Note that if your Jetta takes longer than three or four turnovers you may have a fuel issue. ie high pressure pump, fuel tank vacuum problem (wrong fuel cap that cannot breathe), for example.

Hand crank sewing machine - sewing a water bottle carrier
มุมมอง 353 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's a little demo of my hand cranked sewing machine sewing a water bottle holder that in my opinion was a poor design. This was because the water bottles were too loose in the carrier, allowing them to fall out, and the entire thing would also bounce up and down when running because of the sideways design. The best water bottle holders I have ever used are the ones that are vertically mounte...

    A couple times in the video I called the diesel lift pump a filter 😂 It’s not a filter, it’s the lift pump!! Note that the underlying issue as to why the tank collapsed was because the previous owners must have lost the diesel fuel cap and used abnormal gas cap that does not vent. The diesel caps vent, and that’s how the tank breathes!

    • @hlukeh
      @hlukeh ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! My best guess at the time was that one or more injectors were leaking. I bought a set of injectors with around 70,000mi from someone on ebay. I put them in and it hasn't smoked since, which has been three years now! I recall reading that injectors are supposed to be calibrated or something, but I never did that. The injection quantity deviation values for the four cylinders are very close, and the fuel economy is around 35+MPG with mostly city driving. Unfortunately I don't believe that the injectors for the BRM engine are re-buildable, and you cannot change the tips like you can on the ALH engine, so one suggestion might be to find a set of low cost/low mileage used injectors as they are easy to put in. However, the issue could be caused by something else.

    I have three stories for you. You mentioned pieces of metal flying when hammering. About 18 years ago I was knocking out a u joint from a driveshaft. I was holding it over one leg and made sure I put on my eye protection and told my young boys to get away. I started hammering and after a few blows a large chip broke off and buried itself about an inch and a half into my inner thigh. Went right through a pair of coveralls and jeans. It is right next to the nerves going down my leg so it can't be removed. Crazy how much force a chip can have! I once had the tip of an air chisel break off, hit my forehead and slide up my skull under my scalp almost two inches. I had a lump on my head under the skin where it ended up. It was not easy to get out but a magnet finally did the trick and I slid it back to the entrance hole and out it came. Third story, I used to work at a hospital and met a guy that rushed in with his car and yelled "Help I have been shot". I quickly helped him to a wheelchair and rushed him into the ER. I asked him what he was doing at the time he got shot and he said he was using a sledge hammer on a wedge to split fire wood. A chip the size of a 22 cal bullet went right between his ribs and landed against his heart but luckily did not puncture it. They had to open his chest to get it out.

    A word of caution: When building up sprocket teeth in this fashion, never weld one tooth, then the next in line, , then the next etc etc. The heat put into the sprocket will see you chase stress around the circumference, resulting in a sprocket that is slightly egg shaped. Weld one tooth, then chose a random other one opposite that tooth, etc etc

    • @hlukeh
      @hlukeh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I started with a box of Lincoln E7018AC rods, and they did work pretty well. I was looking at another old 250A AC welder, and I noticed that it said on the front to use 7018 rods on the low output. I just checked, and the low output on this welder has a much higher open circuit voltage of 80V AC vs 50V AC for the high output. I had been using the welder on the high connection because I figured it was better as it could put out more current. That's bad thinking because after connecting to the low output, all the rods I have work! They don't stick and are much easier to weld with! The cheap Vulcan E7018 Harbor Freight rods work, and the Blueshield E7018 rods I have work! I was having trouble with both those rods previously. I've got the sprocket all built up and the track back on, and it has been working great! I built a road cutting up across the hill so we have better access to our lower field, and the track is no longer jumping, and the teeth have worn nicely with the bushings!

    • @AWDJRforYouTube
      @AWDJRforYouTube 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hlukeh Yep, you got it figured out right, The the lower OCV makes STANDARD 7018 hard to or impossible to strike an arc. Good call! I should have read the instructions and tested out the unit first before making the video. Sorry about that. Isn't the video more genuine though the way it is though?! I now know that immediately after connecting the relay module, I should have held the force start button for 3s to enable the relay for a minute since there’s no battery for it to detect. The manual actually doesn’t seem to mention the mode it was in where for a minute or so the relay clicks on and off, and it will start the engine until the relay module times out.

      @@hlukeh I ended up buying the same jump starter as you did. Started my truck on a completely dead battery. Thanks for your video!

    I have an equal, which also does not work. Have you already got the solution?
