Ep 89: A Letter to my brain...
This is a letter I wrote to my brain, similar to the one I wrote to my body last January. I shared it with Office Hours today and was asked to please make a video of it...so here it is. I hope it shines a fresh light on our innocent devotion to the brain and its misinterpretations of how we're doing and how life is going.

Ep 88: The Shame we feel about anxiety...
มุมมอง 8314 วันที่ผ่านมา
One of the aspects of anxiety and panic that we often overlook is the experience of SHAME that most anxious people experience. This was my own experience, too, for decades...until something unexpectedly shifted. For the past few weeks, I have been researching brain science, especially as it pertains to anxiety, fear, and panic. And the one thing I keep running into is this common thread of SHAM...

Dr. Sharon tells Ted, "The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off." : ) Indeed, the truth...which is impossible to name but so wonderful to point in the direction of is incredibly light, expansive, and freeing. Ep 84: Resting in Our True Nature

We've been conditioned to believe that focusing MORE on "me" MY health, MY finances, MY habit, MY relationships is the path to healing and awakening. But what if the opposite is true. Another great reminder. Thanks Missy. I live in Los Angeles and the past week and a half was pretty scary with the fires. I work in Brentwood and we had to be closed for a few days because of evacuation warnings. And where I live I'm on the border of an evacuation warning (I actually got two evacuation warnings.) My brain had a field day with scary stories and "what ifs." Brought me back to when I was part of the Little School of Big Change community during the COVID lockdown. I was keenly aware of the stories of the brain and just welcomed it all. Every time I'd feel tightness in my chest and a knot in my stomach I'd know that this is showing me that I'm buying into the story. And of course, the deeper story is the brain thinking it won't be able to handle the worst case scenario. I welcomed the fear and knew that whatever happens I'll get through it. I don't know how, but I will. Of course none of the worst case scenarios my brain predicted happened to me but even if they did, somehow life will live through me and do what needs doing. I hope this made sense and my heart and prayers go out to all that lost their homes. Anyways, I'll forever be grateful for you, Amy, Amanda, and everyone else in the LSBC community who helped me see that there's a difference between the story and reality. Thanks again for the great video.

I love that so much. It's a reminder that we ALL need, including myself: Stories are not the same as reality. It's such a helpful reminder. Thank you for sharing all of this...and I love that we were in LSBC together. It changed my life. Sending you so much love in LA. Love, missy

    I’m seeing more and more that my experience is very much in flux - that rumination creates suffering and there’s no answer to the “problem” in the same that creates the problem. • @missymaiorano
      @missymaiorano 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a wonderful question, Sarah. ❤ It is so common (and conditioned almost universally) to want to differentiate illnesses caused by trauma or stress from other illnesses. But what if we’re only ever dealing with the experience that is arising RIGHT NOW, in this present moment. When we stay in this moment, the current experience -sensations, emotions, etc. are able to be experienced cleanly, without the added time travel story of “what happened in the past that got me here” (which is inherently shrouded in shame, regret, and remorse). When we’re less focused on the how and why this current experience is whatever it is, there is a lightness and a grace in fully feeling what wants to arise. It becomes simpler, more straightforward. Lighter. Kinder. What is here now? Just now? Can you let this experience, without the story, have a seat at the table. Could it be here in service of you in a way that your mind cannot comprehend right now? Could this moment, exactly as it is, before the mind’s judgments and stories, be part of your greatest healing? ❤️❤️
