I am Oliver, a Street Photographer from Germany with a big love for Italy - mainly Turin. But i am a passionate traveller as well - check out my website krumes.com for photos i´ve made on my journeys to Tokyo, New York, Paris, London, Myanmar, Vietnam or China. I´ve been shooting Street Photography (on Fuji x100v and XT4, Ricoh GR3 and Sony A7CR2) for nearly 20 years now. In 2016 i started to teach Street Photography workshops. I had solo and group exhitibions in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Italy, published my first Street Photography book "Immerse light, embrace shadows" last year and was juror for international photo contests. This channel is for all Street Photography beginners and pros - if you have any requests for future videos, please leave a comment - very curious about your opinions. Oh, and I am still a beginner in this TH-cam thing so your comments help me a lot - and please forgive me my bad English (I am tschörmän)...

Why I prefer 35mm over 28mm in Street Photography
มุมมอง 3.1K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today i want to talk about the differences and similarities, the pros and cons of 28mm and 35mm (eqvivalents as using APS-C cameras) in Street Photography. I will be using the Fuji XT4 with the Voigtländer Color Skopar 18mm F1.8 and the Fuji x100v. Join me on my stroll through Berlin to discover your future favorite focal length! This is the Leica look (on a budget)

Leica cameras like the Q2 or Q3 or the M10 or M11 are of outstanding build and image quality. But super expensive. In my opinion, you can get the Leica look much cheaper, for example with this beautiful small and versatile Voigtländer lens Color-Skopar 18mm F2.8 and with a Fuji XT4, XT5 or a X-PRo 3, for example. And it´s not less fun shooting with these Fuji combos than with a Leica camera in ...

For me, street photography is observation first, whether you do it in big cities like NY, Tokyo, Shanghai etc, or on your hometown. Anything can be interesting if you know how to frame it. Well, of course I'm biased to abstract-ish works like Leiter or Haas. Being able to make a nice images is bonus. You can't control people moving aroung, the lighting, the weather etc. Either wait patiently, or do it again on the next day. If you want to consistently make good images, perhaps consider studio work. Heck you can control practically anything... lol

"Leica cameras such as the Q2 or Q3, M10 or M11 are characterized by exceptional design and image quality." While looking for my first digital Leica, I learned that these are cameras that are prone to failure, are full of defects, very expensive, with very expensive service. The myth of the Lecia camera being reliable and built like a tank has been completely destroyed. All the Leica M8 cameras I checked had sensor defects. Someone will say, but these are old cameras. I have lots of older, serious and amateur cameras. They all work flawlessly mechanically and electronically. Please remember that the Leica M8 had a shutter that failed after only 15,000 photos. The Leica M9 was famous for sensor corrosion. The forums are full of entries about lines of dead pixels appearing on the matrices of various types of Leica cameras. As a Leica camera owner, I can only say that Leica has only two good things: propaganda + marketing, and lenses. Any other camera can take better photos. Any other camera is more efficient and more comfortable to photograph. Those who dream of a Leica camera should forget about it and spend the money on a good lens for their system. This will be ten times more beneficial. And Fuji has nothing to do with Leica.

Life long introvert and photographer and I would never do street photography, I don't believe I have the right to be in someone's face to take their photograph, I far more prefer candid photography where i can observe people acting naturally and be unobtrusive, I've never agreed with street photography in terms of using say a nifty fifty and it being obvious i'm taking your photo, that, to me, is just rude. Others may say doing it from a distance is just as bad or worse but as we all know taking a photograph in a public place is not illegal and i'd rather do it and as i say have someone acting normally instead of being irritated or angry at me and you already know that is going to happen as a street photographer so in my mind you're deliberately trying to get that reaction from someone who was just going about their day, minding their own business.

There is one serious problem with this otherwise excellent lens - a lot of people will want to use this for street photography - however the focus throw on the manual focus ring is very, very short for the distances you are likely to want to set it to for zone focus street photography, e.g. set it to 2M distance and f8 - tiny movements are required and it's largely impossible to see what distance you are set at that longer part of the distance scale. This is a real shame as otherwise the lens is a winner

In case the ones in the video are not enough -here are 10 other ways to earn money as a Street Photographer: 1. Stock Photography Licensing While selling prints is a common way to make money, licensing your images for stock photography is often overlooked by street photographers. Platforms such as Getty Images or Shutterstock offer a venue where your photos can be used by businesses, publishers, and advertisers. The key here is to ensure that any identifiable people have signed model releases, making your images legal for commercial use. 2. Editorial Assignments and Syndication Street photography skillfully captures the zeitgeist of society, making these images valuable for editorial content. Pitch story ideas accompanied by your photography to newspapers, magazines, and online publications. Additionally, syndicating your work allows multiple outlets to use your photos, generating recurring income from the same set of images. 3. Digital Products Beyond physical prints, digital products offer a scalable way to monetize your work. Think of creating preset packs, e-guides on street photography techniques, or even virtual tours of your most iconic shots. These products cater to both budding photographers looking to emulate your style and enthusiasts eager to learn more about the stories behind your images. 4. Exhibition Fees and Speaking Engagements Organize exhibitions of your work at galleries, cafes, or community centers. Charging an entrance fee or selling tickets to these events adds an additional revenue stream. Furthermore, as you build your reputation, opportunities for paid speaking engagements at photography conferences, seminars, and educational institutions may arise. 5. Collaborative Projects and Grants Partner with NGOs, local businesses, or cultural institutions for funded photography projects. These collaborations could involve documenting community issues, promoting local tourism, or capturing cultural events. Additionally, apply for grants specifically aimed at artists and photographers to fund your street photography projects. 6. Content Creation for Social Media In the era of digital marketing, content is king. Offer your services to brands looking for authentic imagery for their social media platforms. Your street photography can add a layer of realism and relatability to a brand's online presence, distinguishing it from competitors using generic stock photos. 7. NFTs and Digital Art Platforms The digital art market, especially Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), has opened up new avenues for photographers. Selling your street photography as NFTs on platforms like OpenSea or Rarible not only diversifies your income but also secures your rights as the creator through blockchain technology. 8. Subscription-Based Models Consider launching a Patreon or a members-only section on your website, where fans can support you directly. Offer exclusive content such as behind-the-scenes videos, early access to new collections, and private webinars discussing your techniques and experiences. 9. Merchandising Use your iconic images to design merchandise like t-shirts, posters, calendars, or phone cases. This approach not only serves as a promotional tool but also as a creative outlet for your followers to engage with and support your work. 10. Urban Exploration Tours Offer guided tours showcasing your favorite shooting locations, teaching participants how to capture the essence of the urban landscape through your eyes. This hands-on experience combines education, travel, and photography, appealing to a broad audience. Do you have any additional ideas?

How much do you want to be disconnected from the scene? How close and immersed in the scene do you want you to be? Questions and decisions! You need to ask yourself what creates your narrative and emotion. After years of experimenting with 50, 35 and 28, I like close with layers so I shoot primarily with a 24mm as it allows more dynamism and impact but you must get very close, so its not a focal length for beginners nor those with confidence issues!

Well, personally I like both. Depending on where i go and what king of images I'm trying to achieve, i use every focal lenght. I shot from 16mm to 300mm. The letter is quite hard to make use for street and dont use very often, but i managed to get some interesting justapositions with it. I usually live between 28 and 50, with some 50's cropped to the 70-80ish, intentional at moment of the shot. Although everyone may eventually find a sweet spot,I think its interesting to try everything and give some time to it, after all there are great recognized photographers doing great work with all of them, from fish eye to super tele

Moin Meister..... :)
