Mezzo Boi Stan
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 ก.ค. 2020
Celebrating the magnificent mezzos playing a variety of trouser roles from operas of all kinds. May include the occasional soprano boi.
La verité dit-on (Muse Prologue) (Alexandra Kadurina)
What is it about Kadurina's Muse/Nicklausse? Her presence? Her expressions? That outfit? Her voice? The answer is: yes.
I wish this performance got more recognition. Kadurina is in my Top 10 List for Nicklausses. I love her interpretation (again, aside from the ending, though she even manages to handle that with flair). Here, the Muse introduces themself and pledges their eternal devotion to Hoffmann, despite any obstacles (namely Stella) that may come their way.
Words aren't really coming for me today so let's get right to it. Enjoy this excerpt from the Opernhaus Zürich's 2021 production.

Fontanals-Simmons isn't super well known, but has made a mark in certain places. She's my second-favorite Cherubino (and I'm a bit surprised I haven't posted her here yet). Here she is as the precious Siébel. Her smile melts my heart. This is a revival of the famed McVicar production at the Royal Opera House (everyone's favorite I have beef with McVicar, but I gotta hand it to him when it comes...

Idomeneo is one of those operas that just gets me in the heart every single time. Idamante is one of my favorite opera characters so sweet, kind, selfless, and loving. Alice Coote and Nadine Sierra in this opera together are one of my favorite diva teams. The entire cast in this production is just amazing, and this pivotal quartet is a punch in the gut leading to the whirlwind that is the final...

Another Rossini opera where the mezzo gest the girl! Let's be honest, who WOULDN'T fall in love with Daniela Barcellona's fetching Malcolm?? And...diva kisses for the win!! Somewhat shocking coming from the Met, but I'm not going to complain. These two diva powerhouses give us such a sweet portrayal of the lovers and, for once, an evening where the mezzo comes out victorious in the end! La donn...
Vois sous l'archet frémissant (Alexandra Kadurina)

There's something inexplicable about Kadurina's performance of this role. Her Nicklausse is definitely one of my favorite interpretations, despite the questionable staging of the ending of this production. Sassy, observant, devoted, defensive, and above all protective of his dear poet no matter the choices Hoffmann makes. His confident, gentle rendition of this aria gets me every time. It's not...
Love Duet (D'Angelo & Leonard)
มุมมอง 5277 หลายเดือนก่อน
Two years ago today yours truly saw this live in cinemas and soaked my mask with tears of joy. The Met produced an abridged, English-language version of the beloved Pelly production, starring the stunning duo of Emily D'Angelo and Isabel Leonard. They sing the sublime love duet "Toi qui m'es apparue" here, "You, the girl of my dreams" in a charming (see what I did there) English translation by ...

More Hansel & Gretel? Sure, why not. As before we have these two lovely divas playing the iconic siblings in this sweet, innocent scene. As definitive as the 1982 production is for me, these two steal my heart in the best way. It's always interesting watching a production of this opera and seeing how they portray the relationship between the siblings. Some leave it ambiguous, so we can imagine ...

Another "Christmas" opera excerpt for your viewing pleasure. The sheer spookiness of this piece still makes me think more of Halloween, but who am I to subvert an age-old tradition? (Though I do, often.) In this quintessential production from 1982, Merril & O'Hearn create a fantastical world full of wonder, creatures, chills, and magic. No production will top this one in my humble opinion. Thou...
Hansel & Gretel Opening (Metropolitan Opera, 2008)-Alice Coote & Christine Schäfer

It's that time of year again. Although I must say I associate this opera with Halloween more than Christmas it just has that delightfully spoopy feel. But during the dark days of COVID the Met always aired this around Christmas so it comes into my mind right about now. This production has nothing on the 1982 Merril & O'Hearn production, but it's still delightful and emotional and the cast is wo...

Yes, I'm still thinking about this one. Kadurina is definitely in my top 10 (maybe even top 5?) Nicklausses, and this from someone who has to date seen 49 productions of this opera. Her Nicklausse is just so sassy, funny, cute and sweet! She really gets the character and the fluidity and ambiguity it possesses. I am not at all a fan of how this production ends, but everything up until the last ...
Violin Aria (Kate Lindsey)

Bartlett Sher's production (here the Met 2009 one) was my first Oeser Hoffmann, and one that is very near and dear to my heart. This is the one that made me fall head over heels for this opera and really got me invested in the relationship between Hoffmann and Nicklausse. I can't imagine someone watching this and not acknowledging that there is something going on between these two. Enjoy this a...
Che farò senza Euridice? (Stephanie Blythe)
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Gluck's is one of the most iconic iterations of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. It's interesting that it is one of the very few with a clearly happy ending. This is definitely the saddest part, where Orfeo mourns the not one but two times he has lost his beloved Euridice. In one of the most famous Baroque arias of all time one of the most famous opera arias, period Orfeo despairs and wonders how...

Siébel is an opera character who gives me all the feels. Losier is an opera singer who never fails to deliver those feels. Together they make one of my favorite performances of any opera character by any opera performer. I know this production of Faust is no one's favorite (it is mine...) but the cast is fantastic and I will watch it over and over again. And I will watch this guy over and over ...
Voi che sapete--Virginie Verrez

Guess who's back! It me. More importantly, here is one of my top fave mezzos, Virginie Verrez, performing one of my top fave trouser roles, Cherubino, in the Wiener Staatsoper's 2021 production of Le nozze di Figaro! During the dark ages of COVID, this was filmed in front of an empty house and streamed for opera lovers across the world for free. Now I am certainly glad the virus has calmed down...

Verrez is probably one of the most talented rising stars on the opera scene today and she never fails to impress me (and be adorable). Here she takes on the role of Cherubino in Vienna's recent 2020 production, a revival of the classic (and very Extra) Ponnelle production. Enjoy Verrez's sassy, endearing portrayal of this quintessential rouser role, and hear her impeccable rendition of one of t...

Of the many renditions of this aria that I've watched, this is,for me, definitely above all the rest. Great vocal agility and perception of the role and the score. Many who perform this have fantastic voices but it just isn't the same. My opinion, of course!
Cherubassa from now ❤
Beautifully sung by Kate Lindsey
What a marvelous voice VV has! Profound and at the same time crystalline!
Très belle interprétation de Kate Lindsey. Peu de vibrato, une très belle voix de mezzo soprano. Tout pour faire un beau chérubin pour ce mariage de Figaro de notre grand Mozart.
Thank you, a lovely performance. <3
Absolutely charming
What a rich texture her voice has ! Amazing!
Can anyone help me find video of other times Kate Lindsey has played Cherubino? There was a video of Non So Piu from a Royal Opera performance, but it's not on TH-cam now (or at least I can't find it). I know she's performed it often. Any tips on where to find any clips I'd appreciate.
Hey! I haven't found many clips of her as Cherubino, but heres one of her performing 'Voi che sapete'! :) th-cam.com/video/oblR6GdEteE/w-d-xo.html
Kate Lindsey makes ones heart melt 🎉
I couldn't agree more. Her performance is so detailed, real, funny, heartwarming (and just a little heartbreaking for this lad whose hormones are raging) and visceral. She is a consummate singer and actress.
So much better than the current production.
A recent interview with Virginie Verrez is available on opera wire.
Amazing! 🎉
Great! Charming scamp!😂😂😂
The Best duet
I loved it! Nobody paid Coppelius the three ducats, though
Marvelous singing. Figaro was correct when he called Cherubino, un farfallo amoresso - an amorous butterfly. He does flit from woman to woman - even Marcellina!
Two nice mezzo... Lovely!
VV. Una vera meraviglia!
The only pity is cutting Coppelius' "j'ai des yeux". Such a great aria. Still loved it!
She is amazing and adorable!!! But the stage direction is downright creepy and weird. Just let her sing it and act it without the weird activity like dumping the laundry on head or trying to accost Susanna... Let Ms. Crebassa sing!
Agreed. Pure eurotrash. Hope it disappears quickly. So many gorgeous singing destroyed by horrid staging.
Ce Cherubino est vraiment adorable !
Kate really plays a handsome man in many pants roles.
kate is so good
Qué voz!!!
This was the first time I heard her live. I was blown away.
as a bi mezzo, kate lindsey is my forever favorite. good lord. she is everything in her performances. my gay heart aches & is inspired. and vocally,, just. the most perfect, buttery, measured, dynamic vocal. my god. not to mention the pure, individual artistry in her acting & approach. i lose my mind every time. when she followed me back in ig, trust and believe i DID absolutely lose my mind. my hero
Bravo!

❤❤❤ ❤❤❤ ❤❤❤ ❤❤
Super indeed. Vocal marvels as well, stunning.
Blegen is excellent as Gretel, in general this is my favourite Hansel and Gretel staging the cast is divine
Love her voice very much❤
Maravilhosa
Quelle merveilleuse etoile !
This is the most persuasive Cherubino I have seen
Adorable!
That is cool!
Thanks to Kate Lindsey, the opera is made into a story that is very approachable and directly moving through her refined voice and interpretation of the historical background and lyrics. I had just started learning to sing, and I was heartbroken because I was told so many painful things, but I became convinced that music is not music unless you can truly enjoy it. I would like to express my gratitude and listen to your voice.
Susanne is the standard by which all Cherubinos are measured!
Wonderful and fun. Amazing Mozart.❤️👏
Kate Lindsey's beautiful eyes and smile. ;) I am glad she got married.
El querubino de esta formidable obra de Mozart es el mismo Mozart. Libidinoso. Atrevido. Es un hombre joven lleno de hormonas Kate es la mejor intérprete. Y actúa como lo requiere el personaje. Otras mezzos. Bien pero siempre parecen mujeres
Love it! My grandfather enjoyed it too.
Excellente comme toujours Quelle merveilleuse chanteuse !
👏👏👏💎💎💎
Wow! You weren't kidding the gay energy and the feeling of this being Nicklausse's confession to Hoffman was so strong I could physically feel it. Especially from 4:56 on. Thank you for sharing this, I haven't seen any other productions that play up the romantic tension between Hoffman and Nicklausse.
