Vivere io non saprò (Barcellona, DiDonato)

Another Rossini opera where the mezzo gest the girl! Let's be honest, who WOULDN'T fall in love with Daniela Barcellona's fetching Malcolm?? And...diva kisses for the win!! Somewhat shocking coming from the Met, but I'm not going to complain. These two diva powerhouses give us such a sweet portrayal of the lovers and, for once, an evening where the mezzo comes out victorious in the end! La donna del lago is not the most well-known of operas--the tunes aren't quite as catchy as some of Rossini's other works, and the story is pretty involved--but it's still a fun and compelling ride full of love, loyalty, disguises, mystery, and a bunch of tenors who don't get the girl.
