Etsy has totally ruined the platform! Ridiculous and abusive. I am leaving Etsy too. Going to MakerPkace
I totally agree, they have caused a lot of damage to a lot of small businesses and hobbyists. They have themselves wrapped in a layer of protective legalese that most folks don't realize they are agreeing to when they sign up. I had to start the gradual process of trying to leave Etsy as Squarespace is not fully supporting me as a Seller just yet. They are getting there, but I'm balancing between having my own website now and still using Etsy to process orders for International customers and for marketing purposes. Once Etsy has it's grip on you and your sales, it takes a while to get away from them - especially if you have established your business there first. At least I no longer have all my eggs in their basket! Thanks for watching and good luck to you!! 🙂💗
I think this would be easy to cut out with my silhouette cameo!
What paper do you print on?

Is it possible to put the printed pupil into a resin eye base as the base of of any eye and add like glitter etc?
Hi there! Thanks for watching! Yes, it sure is ❤️ I have a video that shows how to use prints on smaller scale eyes, and it explains how to use CGI for making the iris. I also plan to do a new tutorial on this as well 🙂❤️
@@VirgosAlchemy Thanks so much I have been looking at all you videos! I think I found it!
@@VirgosAlchemy Thanks so much for your response. Do you have any thoughts on 3d printed eyes? I see some files that actually include textures.
@ you mean 3D printed eyes as in printed with a 3D printer? If you already have a 3D printer and are familiar with 3D printing, then as long as you are able to get the right size settings etc then absolutely. You would just need to be aware of the many things that would need to be considered such as the type of resin, temperature limitations, yellowing etc. I have worked with 3D printed eyes and for me its not cost or time effective, but it for sure is another option ❤️🥂
@@VirgosAlchemy Thanks so much for your insight! I am an avid 3d printer along with other hobbies! I have two: a Mars Max and Saturn Ultra 4. I am always printing something! Lol. Right now I am in the process of 3d printing doll molds and making silicone molds from them. Definitely time-consuming but fun! I like to try to combine all my hobbies when possible.
Thank you! This was wonderful. I'm heading over to your Etsy shop.

Awe thank you so much for watching! I’m so glad you find it helpful! 💗🙂
Thank you, Kendra, a lot! Amazing video, can't wait the part 2 :) Just one question, I didn't get, in case of two ingredients resin, why should I wait 45 min? Should I wait if I use UV resin for this brown iris and two components system for the rest white part?
Hi there, you are most welcome, and thank you for watching 🙂💗 UV Resin only cures with UV Light. So you only have to wait long enough for the UV resin to cure under the UV light, which with something like this, only takes a minute or two. Then you can add the rest of the UV Resin white, and finishing curing it all under the UV light. With 2 part epoxy, it does not cure with UV light. 2 part requires a longer time to cure as it is a more lengthier chemical process that requires it to sit and wait. That is why you have to wait longer if you use 2 part, because if that first layer (color ring) isn't hardened up enough, when you go to add the rest of the white, it can get mixed in and/or distort that first layer, which is the color ring. So when using 2 part, you want it to be firm enough so that when you add the white, it will remain intact, and then you just have to wait the full 12 hours in order for it to fully cure. UV Resin is much faster, but some prefer the 2 part epoxy, as it can be more cost effective when making a lot of projects. I like to use 2 part epoxy to cast my bases, and then UV Resin for the clear dome lens. But, if you want color rings "built in" to the bases, then UV Resin is a much faster choice. I hope this helps!
@@VirgosAlchemy thanks :)
You are not selling on etsy right now. Where can I get that putty you call eye putty? Thanks.
@@Cannonbawlz Hi there! I have a restock order on the way, it has just taken a little longer to come in. In the meantime, you can use FIMO soft or Cernit, and just carefully and lightly heat set it 😊 I have a new updated 2 part tutorial being uploaded today that discusses options for making the eye texture when the eye maker’s putty isn’t readily available. 🥂😃
@@VirgosAlchemy Hey! Thanks for the reply. I think you were saying that the putty doesn't react with plastic and the others do. I'm using basically ping pong ball material. I don't want to do any baking either. I like how you do this, and it looks way better than the printed irises. Will the putty work for me? I'll happily buy some! Thanks!
@ You are very welcome! Yes, the putty is the best option if you don’t want to use polymer clay. Yes, it works well for most folks and its what I usually always opt for myself ❤️🥂 I should have more in stock soon, but it is handmade and imported, so sometimes its hard to gauge specific timeline. It won’t be too long though 😊
@@VirgosAlchemy Thanks, How will I know when it's available? Thanks.
@ you can subscribe to notifications in my Etsy shop ❤️ It will let you know when the listing is active again. 😊
Gran trabajo 😊
This is but one of many examples of the liberties Etsy takes with our listings. It proves that Etsy is definitely not seller oriented. Etsy wants to crowd-source for its products and then use that hard work as it pleases. I gave up on Etsy after a year of aggravation. For anyone reading this, I highly recommend you take your products elsewhere.
I couldn't agree more!
Wonderful! Any sources of info for molding these sorts of hollow pieces for casting? Mine are digitally sculpted and 3D printed.
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching ❤ Do you mean master forms for creating the silicone molds? If you are good at 3D digital sculpting, you can design and print master forms that can be used as molds for silicone, then you can use those to cast the eye bases in resin, clay, or gypsum ❤ It can be quite costly to have master forms made, so if you’re able to do it yourself, that’s probably your best option. I worked with Todd Debreceni on my original doll eye molds, so he is a good resource if you are looking to do your own and need help 😊 Tell him Kendra sent you😉 I’ll be honest though, depending on the size or type of eye base you need/use, you may find it more cost effective to just purchase molds in the size you need. For instance, what size eye bases are you looking for? I bet I either carry the molds or can special order what you need and save you a ton of money and trouble ❤
Great job! Loved it! Your eyes look great!
Thank you so much! 💗
Loved this video. Im gettng into making clay figures and I have always loved the eye making aspect of BJDs. Do you use a special paper for the prints? Where did you purchase the highlight molds? I have a silhouette I plan to have it cut out the iris! I have 2 3d prints. I try to combine all my hobbies lol.
@@tinkey2562 I’m so glad you liked the video! Yes, I have my irises professionally printed by Little-Windows.com You just send them the file and they can print on their special resin photo papers, or you can purchase the paper and print yourself 😊 They can also resize the images without losing the quality/resolution and can print irises as small as 1.3mm 🥴❤️ You can find the link and a reusable 15% off discount code in the video description for Little-Windows.com ❤️❤️ I carry most of the molds either on Etsy or my website, and will have some more highlight molds in the near future 😊 I wish you luck with your projects!! Where do u get the screw back thing
Hi there! These are basically called safety eyes themselves, even though it's just the black part. Some folks use these entirely alone to create solid black eyes, but you can find them in searches as just "safety eyes". I provided links in the description to where I got these. There are MANY options out there, different colors etc... good luck!!! 🩷🙂
You clearly did research and are honest to new viewers (like myself) that this is new to you. Thank you for the awesome tutorial. I do think I have a tip for you ^^ I recently learned that when you insert the eyes to your plushee, after attaching them properly, you need to heat up the back part of the peg and then press it so it becomes that disc you wish the front was... Perhaps you could try and see if that works with the front too? Lightly heat up the dome front, press it on some cardboard.. you can do it a few times if you're not happy, but I'm sure you can get that disc you're after. Probably not as thin as you wish it to be, but I'm sure you can gently file it down a bit? Or perhaps file down the dome part halfway and then heat it up to flatten it. I'm interested in making my own safety eyes because I enjoy making crochet stuff. I do think I have glass cabochons to play around with for stuff that is not for kids. (want to do some simple sculpting stuff, heads only, not humans XD)
@@Dao_Tui awe thank you. Yes, safety eyes is for sure not my thing, but because I’ve been making eyes for sculpture artists, BJD, and other dolls for so long, I felt I should at least attempt it 😂. Melting it down flat does seem like a possibility! As long as it does not produce any toxic fumes, I think it’s something that could be done relatively easy - great suggestion! Hope your comment is seen by anyone further investigating this, I’ll pin your comment to the top 😎🥂❤️
@@VirgosAlchemy As long as the plastic doesn't burn and only heats up, you should be fine. Don't let it catch fire ^^ Working with resin means you are in a well ventilated room, I suggest the same for flattening the pins! And thank you!
this was really informative, and I'm excited to try out some of these methods. Would you mind also making a video using the resin molds you carry in your shop showing different techniques how to use them with just resin/glitter etc (without using the digital prints)? I plan to mostly be using uv resin to make mine and just bought several of your molds but I'd love to see a demonstration (especially with those cute chip design molds). Thank you!
Hi there! Sorry it took me so long to reply! Absolutely, I will work on that! 🩷🙂

You know, that actually makes a lot of sense. Wow. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the informative video. I have an Etsy store but haven't used it in years. Not that I wasn't happy with Etsy, I just stopped all online sales. At one point, I also had a FB shop, Ebay and had my own website too. I totally sympathize with you when you said in your video that maintaining a website is very time consuming... leaving no time to create artwork to post on it! I too had wanted to start a blog, but that would require daily attention responding to my audiences input. Keeping up with emails was hectic enough. I quickly realized why website developers charge so much money! When I started my own website, I didn't think about the fact that unlike Etsy, Ebay and FB websites that have millions of people visiting daily, I had zero visiting my site. Like you I'm a on person, small time seller... not a corporation with millions to spend on advertising my site. FB was my saving grace though... I messaged everyone on my friends list and asked it they would share the link to my website with everyone on their friends list... and YAYYYY... THEY DID! Traffic on my site grew quickly... then after awhile started to slow. I realized that I had more work to do... I had to somehow keep people interested... make them want to keep returning. I thought about inviting some artist friends of mine to create a page of their own on my site so customers would have a variety to choose from. That idea fizzled fast because I would be the one doing the actual work setting up their page and notifying them when items sold etc etc.. Then I thought about adding a "Special guest artist" page either monthly or weekly where my artist friends could just showcase their work and info about themselves, plus links to their online presence where people could purchase their work. But again that meant more website work and less time creating my inventory to list on my own site. I finally settled on having them email an artists statement a photo of their work and contact info. I created a page on my site that listed all of them ; a "My favorite artists!" page. In return they agreed to occasionally remind their social media friends to check out my site for new items for sale. THEN... just as I was starting to get into a routine handling Ebay, Etsy, FB and my website AND have time to create art... one family tragedy after another began happening. I had to shut EVERYTHING down so I could focus on family. In 2023, five years later, a couple years after the worst was over, I found the heart and will to start creating again. Then last Summer I returned to one of my favorite art shows... and it was medicine for my soul!! I've created a lot of artwork over the past 30+ years, but over the past year, I think I've created 10 years worth! I'll be attending Two art shows this summer... which is good and bad. Last year I realized that I had aged a lot over the previous 5 years! The physical labor of loading and unloading, setting up, selling, then loading and unloading again, wasn't easy like it used to be. So... I've been contemplating returning to online sales again after these two shows. I've seen a few other TH-cam video titles over the past couple of years pertaining to sellers dissatisfaction with Etsy... so when I saw your video title, I figured I'd better start listening to what you're all saying before I recommit to Etsy. I know I don't want to do a FB shop again... but maybe I'll just set up an artists page on there with a link to wherever I do decide to sell from. Or maybe I should just bite the bullet and sell again on Etsy, but start directing customers to whatever online venue I want to pursue this time. My previous personal website years ago was through a small company called Jimdo. I just checked to see if they're still in business and YES, they are! They also have a new package just for artists! Cool! From your description of Square Space, the two hosts are very similar! I'm not sure what the artist package includes yet though... but I look forward to finding out. Anyway... again, THANK YOU for your down to Earth and informative video! I hope all is going very well for you! Dawn
Great video Info ! But you have to do something about your camera placement .....Please ?
Thanks so much! Yes, my camera has been quite a challenge for me because I need it so close for such tiny work, but also need to be super close so I can see what I’m doing 😭 I have been working on it, but will continue to try and make improvements 😊❤
You are extremely talented. Fantastic video. Thank you.
@@VintageVineMillinery Awe thank you! 😊 Thanks for watching!
Great video Kendra, so very informative!
Awe thank you Fran!! ❤️❤️😊
Use nitril gloves. The fume is less dangerous than the actual contact with the skin... still the fume are a thing to worry about. Use a fume hood.
Thank you Kendra!! 🥰
You are most welcome!! 😊🩷
Thank you, Kendra! I didn't even know about various types of resin😧
You are so welcome! I should have done this video long ago 🥴🩷
The PPE debate is something I will never understand... I have been mocked for refusing to work without a mask on... I don't want black mould in my lungs thank you very much! Enjoy your decreased lung capacity and I will enjoy smelling nice things. I've never seen UV clay and now I need to play with it immediately
Amazeballs!!!!!
Thanks! 🩷🙂
I couldn't find this mold for Blythe size, could you help me, please?
Hi there! I only have a few more of these left, but you can find the ones I have left here: www.etsy.com/shop/VirgosAlchemy?ref=seller-platform-mcnav&search_query=Eye+Texture
Beautiful!
Thanks! 🩷🙂
Wowww😍
Yay! Thank you! 🩷🙂
I am a cloth doll maker and finally moved over to the Blythe side lol! I had my first Blythe in 1972 when they first came out. I like the factory Blythes
So very cool! Glad to connect with you 😊 You're in good company! Hehehe Yay! Yes, my goal is to eventually work on Blythe but for now I feel more comfortable learning on ICY 😊💗
Your videos have been exactly the confirmation I needed to expand beyond Etsy. I quit my corporate job earlier this year to fully invest in being a small business owner and creator because I didn't want to be at the mercy of an employer. While Etsy has been a successful experience for me in terms of income, you are spot on about the disadvantages - and I don't want to be at Etsy's mercy either based on what I'm hearing is happening to other sellers. TWO QUESTIONS for you based on your Squarespace journey: 1. Did you consider Wix in addition to Squarespace and Shopify? I have more experience with building Wix sites and thought maybe it would be easier because of that, but I'm really intrigued by the Squarespace features. Curious if Wix was ever in the running and why you ruled it out as an option if so. 2. How do you drive traffic to your Squarespace beyond Etsy - i.e. social media, or what other approaches have worked for you? And how are you able to drive traffic to your website FROM Etsy, too? Is it repeat customers usually? I want to stop depending on Etsy but I'm worried about where I will be able to get any customers from since Etsy is a convenient marketplace for customers to discover my shop. Thank you! I've learned a lot from your 3 videos about your Etsy experience and it was just what I needed to hear at this phase in my shop's growth.
Hi there! Thanks for watching and for your comment! So sorry I just got to see your questions 🩷 I had a WIX store long ago, so it's not fair for me to judge WIX based on that because they were relatively new still at the time. There really wasn't a reason why I chose not to consider WIX, I just felt that Squarespace and Shopify would meet my needs the best. If I recall, there was issues and limitations with payment gateways, shipping, SEO etc with WIX when I first looked at it, so I think perhaps that early impression stuck with me. Yes, I use Instagram and TH-cam mainly to drive traffic to my Squarespace site, but I also use Etsy. I always make sure folks know about my website through my Etsy listings and shop announcements, and I also offer incentives to shop with me direct if the buyer is within the USA. I include this information in all my orders as well. I don't get pounded with fees with my Squarespace store as much as Etsy, so I can offer my customers better pricing and also services/items that can only be purchased through my own website as incentives. I do get a number of repeat customers, both on Etsy and through my website, so I get the opportunity to learn what incentives are most effective at gaining their business. So in my personal opinion, I would not let Etsy go completely, I would start the website first, and then that way you can gradually shift things over. It takes time for sure to build that traffic, but by leveraging your exposure on Etsy, offering incentives to shop direct, and using listings as a way to market, it actually works pretty well. I'm super happy the videos have helped, I think it's important for folks to share their experiences and to brainstorm together! Thanks again for watching 🩷
I’m not familiar with UV resin but I thought you could use a heat gun to help get rid of the bubbles
Yes, you can use a heat gun to degass resin, including Uv Resin. The problem with that in this particular situation, is that the air bubbles are formed when the air is trapped beneath, where you cannot use a heat gun. It’s different when you are doming or layering. You cannot access what is happening “inside” when you create these while exposing it to UV light. 😊
It's very cool. Where can I buy this?
Hi there! I’ll have it back in stock soon! It is intended to be used for Blythe/Icy doll customizing, but I was looking for other uses for it, like eye making.
The best thing that happened to me was getting my Etsy shop closed. They had yet again changed another policy and was requiring us to use Etsy pay and give them all our banking information. I refused and they kept giving us new deadlines if we did not sign up for Etsy's banking they would close our shops. I continued to refuse and they finally closed my shop. I loved selling on Etsy for many many years and they just kept changing things and taking more fees and messing with my shop appearance. I got so tired of jumping through all of etsys hoops and was so frustrated. Not to mention there bullshit handmade policy they let anyone sell any kind of junk. I am so happy to be gone and can't stand this company any longer.
Yes! That was a HUGE issue for me as well. I could not believe they were pushing that, especially considering that the company they hired to do that had been recently sued over data breach! With all the cyber security threats right now, the last thing we need is to have our private banking information exposed more than absolutely necessary. I totally feel you on every single point, it's really sad that such a wonderful platform has turned into such a nightmare. I really do hope that they start to listen, because they have been steadily losing some of their best sellers. That is what makes Etsy even relevant, it's the Sellers!
OOOOOR... set the black pupil with the backing into some clear and then do the glitter mica layer behind that. so pupil down. and youd be working "backwards"
Yes, if you want to just use mica or hand paint, absolutely.
Just use a little bit of black dye for the pupil, let it st up for a bit, then do the color or then some clear over that then paint on the design then put a gltter/mica mix over the top. all can go in the pressure pot. and also put a post in thats flat maybe? im not sure
You could try uv/gel rhinestone glue. It’s for nail art. UV resin reminds me of gel polish.
The only thing that I’ve had go wrong with nail products Is that they tend to yellow and crack over time. But there could be higher quality products out there that could work, I think it’s always worth experimenting 😊
Look into plastic rivets, they make lots of completely flat ones.
Excellent suggestion! I sure will, thanks! 😊
Incredible artistry-you are gifted at what you create! Can a person get the blank whites in 26mm size? I make custom horror props and use a lot of eyes. =)
I totally missed your question, I'm so very sorry about that. Yes, you can, but 26mm is a bit more difficult to find for some reason. 24mm is more common, but I've actually been working on 26mm and hopefully I can provide a solution soon for this size. 😊

@@VirgosAlchemy Awww thanks, but you have earned every accolade'. Not only are you gifted at your craft, you are down to earth enough to teach others-sharing your knowledge and enabling them to experience the sensation of creativity.. Pretty Cool 👑
I'm glad I came across this video! I have just joined etsy about 6 Mos ago, and it's been one red flag after another since I opened my shop, and I have a very uneasy feeling about this whole decision I've made. And I have heard multiple people's reasons I ns for leaving, and I mean multiple. My biggest issue is that when considering opening my shop it was to open it on a handmade platform, which I was under the impression that etsy was, and I am very upset to find so many shops that are absolutely not hand made items! Believe I'll be going somewhere else sooner tan layer. Best of luck to you!
Things have only seemed to be getting weirder and worse unfortunately at Etsy, but since I've opened my own website, I'm using Etsy mainly to market myself. I offer better pricing on my site for some items as an incentive for folks to shop with my direct, and use my Etsy listings as a way to basically increase traffic to my own site. I'm still slowly working towards having everything switched over, but I would ALWAYS suggest that anyone thinking about Etsy, not make it your only focus. I would for sure have your own website and work on building that instead of just helping Etsy increase their traffic, make them richer, and give them power, control, and basically ownership over your business. That way, if you ever have your shop taken down or experience any of the other dozens of things Etsy is doing to hurt their Sellers, you can always have your own site to turn 100% to. I would say make Etsy your backup, but your own website your main focus. I know it takes longer, but you are investing in your own business at that point and not someone else's! I wish you MUCH success and luck!!! 😊💗
Amazing talent!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it! 💗💗
I was starting to set up an Amazon page when I realized they used MY page, which I paid for, to list competitor products..they pulled the same thing. And this was years ago. I just finished setting up an Etsy page, made one sale, and now I get a notice they have put a "reserve" on my account for 90 days, which means that they are going to hold 30% of my sales for the next three months. I have gotten no answer from customer service on what the heck this is. How has square space worked out for you?
😍
Thank you ❤❤
Can you use clear uv clay as an epoxy mold? Can I pour epoxy in clear uv clay?
Hi there! I would not use it as a mold for epoxy as it would most definitely adhere to the UV resin clay and destroy both your mold and your cast. Silicone is the best type of mold to use with epoxy resin 😊
