CV AXLE SEAL REPLACEMENT 1st GEN TOYOTA TUNDRA
In this video I replace a leaky CV Axle seal on the passenger side of my 2000 Toyota Tundra. This process should be same or similar to Tundras years 2000-2006
I was able to do this without any specialty tools however in some cases you will need a seal puller and a seal driver kit to complete along with the correct differential fluid for your vehicle.

SIDE NOTE: I thought I had a video up of how to change the front diff fluid but must have taken it down for some reason. Apologies if you are looking for it.

Finally getting around to show some love to my 1967 Toyota Stout These are rare trucks, only about 4000 sold in the USA between 1964-67. Who knows how many are left out there lost to rust and accidents. This truck is already a bit of a Frankenstein to my understanding, chopped up, and lowered on a 91 pickup frame. Under the hood, it is powered by the mighty 22re motor. That said, I’ll have no i...

gen1 Tundra problem & solution: poor engagement of rear drums, so large travel of brake pedal & excessive load on front brakes.... ... "First Generation Tundra Brake Problems Solved" Lift the rear end and put the truck in neutral- be careful to chock your front wheels. Remove the rubber access hole to the adjuster inside the drum. Turn the wheel by hand as you tighten adjuster until it drags and stops the wheel from spinning freely. It should drag a bit but not feel seized. Adjuster (in drum) rotates away from vehicle to push shoes out (reverse thread on receptacle for it). Now adjust the bell cranks and emergency brake cable tension for 6-8 clicks on its pedal. I noticed that if the inner adjuster is not tight enough the bell crank adjustment will be off. Tightening the inner drum adjuster will change where the bell crank engages. th-cam.com/video/ejpP_Ldq0QI/w-d-xo.html www.tundras.com/threads/2006-tundra-e-brake-slack.49687/

Toyota stout! These trucks are so cool. I just picked one up a couple months ago that should probably be a parts rig. It's rough. I'm going to turn it into a 4 wheel drive. If I had a nice one like yours I'd put it on air bags. I like the rat rod look. Looking forward to more videos!
Yeah these trucks are definitely unique. I have hopes of turning it into a canyon carver. Time will tell

They sure do! Glad the vid helped
How did you get that grill and lights on your 97? I thought that was a 96 grill and lights? I really want to find a way to get the same type of grill and lights on my 97
This grill and lights are OEM. The 4x4 models came with different grills than the 2wd models. It is possible to run this grill with a 2wd model but you will have to modify it slightly to fit. The 4x4 models were a bit wider with different fenders as well.
Hey thank you so much man I have a 2002 Toyota tundra SR5 how long you're right there are a lot of videos about replacing the front door or the passenger door but not so many about the access cab. hi, thanks for the video. hows the dorman so far? is it a good quality? im about to put dorman on mine.
Good so far. Survived sand hollow without an issue
be sure to use a wire wheel to clean up the wheel hub, and throw a little lubricant on it to keep the rim from adhering to it.
Use soapy water to clean off the drums, not brake cleaner, it'll keep the brake dust down so you're not breathing it in. then come back with brake parts cleaner.
How come nobody uses that electrode stuff on these?
Glad you got it fixed perrito! Now let's go wheel!

Were the axles you removed OEM? One year later how have the NAPA axles held up? How many miles on the originals?
Hello there. Dont know how many miles were on the old axles but definitely overdue on the swap and def not OEM. NAPA axles did pretty good but ive snapped both on technical trails so couldnt say for sure since the lifespan of my axles isnt over a year or so
my new part came with the clip on upside down, took me a while to figure that out, i thought i had the wrong part.
I was puzzled why this wasn't the same as the front. I haven't broke the clip yet like you did, but maybe I need to try harder. It is a bugger to get the faceplate off without breaking those clips I suspect. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure I just watched the video you mention right before this. Bro took like 15-20 mins. I'm getting ready to do this myself 286k miles on my Tundra. This gave me even more confidence to do it myself. I like the Foot Wrench hahah Thanks man!
Haha foot wrench is the best
my 98 tacoma had a spring fall out when it broke? hmmmm i see no spring here?
I just did mine on my 1st gen Tacoma. I followed the video from @funjunkiegarage also. He was the only guy that had a video of someone doing this without pulling the entire drive shaft off the truck. Mine went nearly as smooth as yours did. I had some problems getting the two drive shaft sections lined back up. My truck was on a driveway with a slight incline. I put wheel chocks behind all 4 wheels but when I split the drive shaft it appears the truck settled back a little against the chocks. I had to get my foot on the front frame crossmember and push the truck forward while lining up the drive shaft and wrestling the bolts back into the driveshaft. Took a while but I got it. My stake nut was not staked either. And the drive shaft bolts were real tight on mine like yours. The torque spec for those is 54 ft.lb. but you can't get a torque wrench on them so I think people just tighten them way too tight. Also, the torque spec for the big stake nut is a 2-step process. You torque it to 134 ft. lb., then back it off and torque it again to only 51 ft.lb. The bearing is not pressed on but the 134 ft.lb. torque sets the bearing. Congrats on getting yours done! It really isn't that hard of a job. Other generations of Tacomas and Tundras have a different design where you have to disassemble the double cardan joint. That's a pain in the ass that I'm not sure I'd attempt.
Hey good job to you too man. Thanks for watching my vid and dropping your experience
Love this man. Got me rethinking what I should do with my build
great platform!
Awesome truck! No limit straps?
Thank you. I added limit straps shortly after. Also went back to mid travel and sold the kit after in Nov/Dec 2023
What indicators did you have showing you it was bad?
Hello Marcus. driveshaft wobble, vibrations under acceleration
@@dr_omiz I was hoping you had a similar symptoms but unfortunately not. I've got a drivetrain howel im hoping is the carrier but my suspicion is the the rear end. You still got your oem rear 3rd member btw?
@@marcusmacdonald3594 I am regeared to 4.88 nitro gears with and ARB carrier/air locker. Howl coming from your rear diff? if its consistent with acceleration then, yes i would point to your diff if it its inconsistent more of a womp, womp as it rotates could be a bad bearing or wheel bearings
It constant only when acceleraating. Most noticeable 30mpg+. The pitch continues to climb as speed increases. It's not gear oriented thank god. Constant howell. When on the gas and instanly goes away when I get off the gas. Got the car on 4 jack stand to see if I could pin point it but my driveway being sloped i did not feel comfortable getting under it. I feels its a bearing to just hopefully not one inside the diff. If so I guess it will be time to regear. How do you like the air locker btw?
@@marcusmacdonald3594 I would have a gear and axle shop do a diagnostic if possible. Air locker has been solid, no issues to report.
Good job perrito!

@@dr_omiz Right on brother!!
Hey man Someone told me that 37 is too much for the tundra rear axel. Did you have any trouble?
havent had issues with the rear. pushes 37s around just fine. Its the front you have to worry about in my opinion

High and low compression is the most appropriate number for the street?
If I understood you, you’re asking for recommended settings? Fox street settings to start with I believe are three clicks of compression for high and low. You can adjust from there based on your spring rate and feel
@@dr_omiz yes thanks YOU brother

Hello How are the Toyota rear hubs and bearings holding up with the 37s?
So far no issue. Still feel solid with no play
Check out the update video when you get a chance
Glad you talked about the tire and rim weight with bead locks. You can always run like 2 or 3 wraps of ducktape on the outter bead i heard that can work like bead locks or get bead grip wheels both way lighter than beadlocks that use a bunch of bolts snd rings
Well apart from the weight savings, I haven’t spun a tire on a rim as of yet. I’ve aired down to 10psi in some cases just to see. The other factor is I don’t think I carry enough weight to squish the tires so 12-15psi is about where I am for
love the wheel set up what are those rims ur running they complete ur build i think
Your truck did fkn great at Big Bear with the new wheel and tire combo! Next test is Sand Hollow 🤘
Pretty sick… 1. what offset do you need for the right wheel to stop using spacers? 2. were you concerned running load “d” instead of most used “e” for durability purposes?
1) I might have to run offset in the -38mm range since thats what i see most wheel sets come in. 2) Not really since i knew i was sacrificing the load rating for weight savings. I ran the tires through different terrains with the last few runs at about 12-15psi with no issues other than some radial creases. Held up good to being pinched and some jagged rocks.
How did you reinforce rear fenders after cutting?
I havent yet to be honest haha but the plan is to use some 1/4 inch piping and flatten the edges to bolt it up. Ill post a video when i get to it.
What did u re-gear to?
4.88 Nitro gears
I have referenced this video plenty of times now trying to do my brake job, The one thing that kind of perplexes me is your adjuster lever seems to be on backwards as both sides of mine were on the opposite shoe on the back side. It seems like there's a spot for an extra lever on the side that your lever appears to be positioned on. Which one is right? I still don't know if anyone else knows. Please comment below.
Do you need two levers?
How much lift in the rear?
hmm i think between 2.5-3in. Its just fox 2.0 and add a leaf in the rear at the moment. Havent decided on what i want back there.
@@dr_omiz I have 3 inches in my 2006 So I would have to make cuts to fit 37s ? And what gears did you use?
@@kilogolfmike8095 yeah. in my situation there was no way to fit the 37s without doing some cutting in the wheel wells and bed panels. test fitting like i did in this vid to see what touches is the best way to go. I use 4.88 nitro gears
whats ghetto about magnets? ur silly bro. nice truck.
Truck looks a little different now but still have the magnets haha
I see you are on 35"s.... Man, that is a whole huge step up to do it right. About $7k for the lower front control arms. The wheels and tires, The brakes if you want to do it right. Regearing.
Hey man thanks for watching the video and telling me about your truck. When you have time, check out some of the other vids on my channel. My truck is on 37s at the moment. Went to midtravel with solo lowers and fox suspension. Kept my heim joint steering. Truck is regeared to 4.88 and has lockers front and rear.
@@dr_omiz Build it Out.
I did a 3 1/2" lift on my 04 first Gen with Bilstein 6112's and Camburg High lift upper control arms. Running 33"s on 16"s. (More tire is better than more rim).
