Im setting up to run my house off a Netgear nighthawk M6, I live in Melbournes West and my nearest 4G/5G Optus antenna is about 950m away in direct line of sight from the roof of my house. I have been told by Optus my house does not qualify for one of their 5G modem packages but as an Electrician I believe I can accomplish just as fast speeds as their set up by putting something together of my own. For this setup which antenna would you recommend me purchasing taking into account everything you said in the clip? I'm going to assume its the MIMO-4-17 but is there another antenna you believe might be better suited to my situation? Thanks 👍

If anyone rolled out AI for engineering, or specifically antenna engineering, it wouldn't be a general purpose chat bot. These 'AIs' can get quite specialised depending on how they're trained. Whether anyone will create such a tool or not will depend on economics of whether it's worth pooling resources into the creation of AI assistant tool for this niche target. Assuming they do decide to do it, it would be great for those well established within the field, not so great for others. The boring work has to raise the demand for antenna engineers. When you bring in extra automation, productivity increases as, for the sake of example, every 1 engineer can do the job of 2. I don't know the economics of how much $$$ goes into engineer salaries when doing an antenna project, but if it's significant, then short-term you'd expect there to be more projects as every engineer would get the job done faster - meaning less money spent on salaries. Long-term, if we're assuming the antenna demand stops growing (as enough are built such that any new ones are experiencing diminishing returns), then the salaries in this field will likely reduce for anyone but the most experienced engineers due to there being more applicants per position open than before. It would also get more difficult for the newcomers to squeeze into the field. I wonder where would the replaced antenna engineers go? Would they go from the roles of doing the design to the roles of hands-on maintenance of existing antennas? Or are there other engineering fields to which the knowledge and skills they have would easily transfer?

WOW, wonderful objective... like the way made... interesting idea. Remain only one thing... HOW TO ASK CORRECTLY... TO DESCRIBE correctly... for sure we have to made a way, leaving IA to enter in the field of this objective... a discussion for example, searching for existing "papers", then ask to hypothesize, deduce, improvements... look at the results... then verify the results, then writing the results continue... in fact, in this way and only in this way I solved, and I built things and circuits that otherwise I would not have dreamed. I often find myself with solutions that maybe I had under my nose, simple, effective, but I didn’t see them... If then, you want to find a way to make an IA respond in "absurd" way well, it gets simple...

You'd probably get better performance from a model that was more specifically trained on RF engineering text. I'm not aware of such a thing, but there are open source models that could potentially be fine tuned on more RF engineering textbooks and papers to improve performance. ChatGPT has decent understanding of various sciences, but often falls short once you get too specialized. The image generation is really built more for making pretty pictures than engineering diagrams. I'm not aware of any publicly available image generation or engineering diagram generation that would be accurate for something like this, but it hardly means it is not possible if someone was so inclined to design it. Since the engineering and math is well understood its probably easier to write a more traditional software package to do the design at this time. We've had programs to do that for decades of course, and they'd be significantly more compute efficient that using giant generalized AI models running on millions of dollars of hardware. You might try looking into Nvidia RAN and Nvidia Aerial. developer.nvidia.com/gtc/2020/video/s22009-vid docs.nvidia.com/aerial/index.html Much of this is just GPU acceleration of the math rather than "AI", though. Codifying the problems is a good start, though, and generative AI may help improve the ability to search the possible space of solutions for complex problems.

You should do a bit of research into Physics Informed Neural Networks. Large language models are not meant to do scientific research. You can use the programming skills of a LLM to help you design some software to create antennas though. I feel like it is a specific expertise and was probably not included in the dataset as much. It would be like asking a first or second year student to make one. Maybe if a company that had a lot of antenna engineers and lots of data of what the antenna engineers did. Then they train the AI on that data, maybe you would get a better response. But I still don't think they would be able to replace engineers as of now. Maybe in a few decades or so.

My industry has been using antennas designed by genetic algorithms for awhile. It depends on what you consider to be "AI" but these antennas are mostly designed by the machine. However, it still requires a lot of human work to design the algorithm, the scoring routine, and the initial seed. Genetic algorithms only work if the solution space is continuous (any solution has to work, better or worse), antennas usually meet that requirement. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolved_antenna

Hope manufacturers will focus on this 802.11ah/s use case scenarios and develop higher power add mimo for more thoroughput and more watt power for extended range like 6 to 7 miles. And make it man portable with battery like a tactical manet radio in a ruggedized tactical form factor.

    • @RFShop

Hi, as per the video I would not recommend a direct connection. One main thing would be that it's too strong, and also one certainly need to take care with the uplink and downlink balance. Given my background and passion, I would start by seeing how good an improvement you can get using only external antennas. If that works well you'll have the best improvement without electronics. Once you add electronics ( i.e. amplifiers etc. ) you do loose system performance as you'll be adding system noise.

Hi, thanks for your patience. I would consider the MIMO-3 series the best antenna, and the MIMO-3-14 is my favourite. It "only" has the 4x4 external antennas, which means the antenna elements are not really disturbed by WiFi and GPS antenna modules and they work best. You would then rely on the RUTX50's WiFi antenna for inside your motorhome, which is really what makes sense to me.

Is it possible, if the wifi antenna interferes with the gps antenna, not to connect the external wifi antenna and connect the antennas that come from the rutx50? I hope it's good anyway. Thanks again

@@gama-channel not a bad choice. Many people go for the -17 and it is a great antenna :)

I find Lora and halo very interesting. I want to create a city wide network to monitor my customers hvacr Equiptment. This would allow me to report issues and dispatch a tech to resolve the issue.

Yes, I look forward to see where this brings us. 2024 might be a very good year for IoT

This is a amazing antenna. Excellent coverage and long range. Too bad were not mining Helium anymore. My IOT earnings are 20 cents USA a day with my Bobcat 300 LMR400 cable and 1000 foot elevation.

Yes, the antenna performed really well. We still have stock (no-one wants Helium antennas anymore down here in Australia) so we're moving towards LoraWAN and Halow...both using the same bands and fingers-crossed will breath new life to this amazing antenna. One of my biggest gripes during Helium was the "need for gain"...which was completely blown out of proportion by the so-called experts.

What antenna would be good using it with a first net Netgear m6 pro hotspot. I get good speeds, but I get some packet loss. And I use it for Iracing and my ping is 91 in that but sometimes I get a quick disconnect. So wondering if I added an antenna to my house as I have a 30-40’ tower tripod cemented in the ground and attached to the side of my house for my home internet which is a wifi antenna from another location but that’s slow compared to my hotspot. So I could use that tower to add an antenna to maybe get lower latency I was thinking.

It'll be very hard to say what the best solution is or whether it will work well. Many environmental variables I don't know about. However, I would try to use an XPOL-2 from Poynting Antennas. Get the antenna as high as possible, and turn it to get the best signal strength and RSRP into your modem.
