I would say this expension pack was revolutionary in one more way than just vacation: for the first time we've had snow and sand in The Sims, waaaaay before The Sims 2 Seasons. And frankly each generation introduces expansions that *have to be* in future generations. With TS1 there were Vacations and Pets, with TS2 - University and Seasons, with TS3 - Careers and Generations (TS4 is a mess and we will see with The Sims 5 if Simmers will want any particular TS4 expansion coming back).

I’ve always loved the fact your Sim actually appears in the stories in the tabloid. Makes it feel as if your Sim actually has an impact on local pop culture.

Looking at the examples given, I immediately noticed that Simlish seems to be an inconsistent cipher for English. "Da klop" = the clothes, "da gurn" = the girl, etc.

Simlish sounds like what english sounds like to non english speakers. It sounded like english to me when i was a child and couldn't understand nor speak english.

"Renato renato" means "go away" in simlish? That's funny, "Renato" is a common name for a person in some countries. And what a lovely choice for a background music, I love the build mode theme #6 from Sims 1.

One thing to keep in mind is that it might be the case that the recordings are not for a particular use case and just simlish in general and then the sound designers have to decide on how to use those recordings. If that's the case, then the decisions of what sounds, words and phrases exist and what they mean are mede by different people. I suspect that "noobo" for baby probably took on its meaning due to being the most prominent word in a recording used for interacting with babies, rather than being selected explicitly for that purpose. (Source: trust me bro. Qualification: watches a lot of TH-cam videos about game development.)

Another hypothesis for the different versions of "you" could be that it works like in Japanese. Japanese chooses pronoun forms not based on grammar, but rather on emotional and social context. The words "anata", "anta", "omae" or "kimi" all mean "you", but imply a different relationship between the speaker and listener.

I feel songs are a poor way to check the language. There is a big difference between the speech and translations of songs in the games. When listening to a simlish version of the songs it's clear that above all the team tries to make it sound as similar as possible to the original. See for example th-cam.com/video/Pb-VRm966iM/w-d-xo.html If the songs would be representative for the language one could follow along with all conversations as well as it feels like mistyped english. As this is clearly not the case the two seem to be two very different mediums of communication at best. This is not meant as a criticism to your video as I know there is no clear way to study simlish otherwise, I just feel the dictionary is more akin to a phonetic english dictionary

Amazing video!! ♥🏆 I love all the sims music, but I feel that starting with the sims 2 they started to focus the game on a more "teenage" style because I think the music is softer and simpler. My favorite music will always be TS1, especially the building mode in Studio Town 😍 Btw, as a future suggestion 💡Maybe you could make a video talking about The Sims Online, which still survives thanks to a project called Freeso, there is a lot of content and music in that game that didn't appear in any of the expansions of the official game 😉✨

I just realized in Dutch you can say "dag" to say goodbye and hello. If you say "dag-dag" that could be more like "night-night" moreso than "bye-bye" but nonetheless basically Simlish.

I missed The Sims 1. So much time well spent creating memorable stories. One thing I still remember well to this day is, at one point after playing the game like 14 hours straight, I went to a restroom and I thought I saw a red bar over my head turning green while I do, you know, that thing. 😂

Iunno, all I think when i hear about the simgreek thing is how excited and passionate you must have been about language (and the sims) as a kid to have picked up on and remembered even just a few letters of their made up faux-greek. I don't think that's cringe at all, it's sweet, I think your younger self would be very proud of this video.

I remember hearing "THE GAME SONG" by "Keke" in the Sims 2 -- I thought it was an original song for the Pop station, but it turned out to be an actual song by KEKE PALMER. I loved it so much I went on to cover it later... and maybe I need to go back and do the Simlish version? Loving your channel by the way, EASIEST subscribe of my life!
