Seiko Prospex Marinemaster SJE 117
Iconic Seiko Marinemaster compared to the SPB 451 in blue. Where the SPB leans in to the heritage, the MM is a little more blingy. OOPS! I did say MM 300, when this is only WR to 200, so the 300 moniker just can't be correct. Polished on the bracelet, more pronounced bezel teeth, and a coated steel bezel insert instead of aluminum. A big difference is the engine... the MM has the 6L37 with stated accuracy of -10/+15 vs the -15/+25 of the SPB. Will track it and report back. Great watch, not sure (yet) if it is worth 2x the SPB.

Seiko SPB 451 : the latest version of the 62 MAS
มุมมอง 1353 หลายเดือนก่อน
First look at my SPB 451. The new size is nice and can be felt on wrist: slightly slimmer, slightly smaller caes size, and lug to lug slimmed by over 1mm. The new date window is far less obtrusive than I thought it would be and the bracelet improvements are nice. If I keep it will all depend on accuracy... the SPB 143s I tried were all over the map and, for the money, it is hard to get behind a...

OK... I posted the battle of the Bays... BB58 and BB54 and sent the 58 back. However, it is such a fine watch, I wondered if it got a fair shake given the bracelet differances. So... I was lucky enough to get a BB58 with the OEM leather and the Ranger bracelet which fits it perfectly and gives you the T-fit and loses the fake rivets. Spoiler alert; in my book it makes these two watches "tied." ...

A lot of folks are talking about this after the release of the 37mm Black Bay 54. This video shows you a side to side comparison to help you make up your mind if you are stuck between the two choices. Two great watches and you can't go wrong. If you are shopping between them and have a 6"-7.75" wrist I would probably lean toward the 54. If you already have the 58 I would probably not add the 54...

Very well executed homage to the mid-60's divers watch. 40mm is slightly larger than the original, but looks great and overall the watch wears small due to its thickness and curvature of the 48mm lugs. I show you the size next to the Aquis and the SBP143. Only 100m water resistance and comes with the ORIS 733 movement. Really a neat watch. #divewatch #oriswatch #watch

Good video, I have the Henry classic .30-30 side gate. I'm using the included semi buckhorn sights. If I change those out, it will be with peep sights, I like the traditional lever gun look.
@@sturisa thank you. Just as an FYI, I did switch out to peep sites and had some trouble getting them properly aligned. Ended up sending the rifle back to Henry and they re-barreled it. Frankly, I had better luck with the semi buck horns generally but currently have Skinner peep sites on there. Also pretty good luck with the 2.5 to 8 by Leupold.
@ well that’s good to know thanks. I sure wouldn’t want to go through all of that just to put on those peep sights though. I wonder why you couldn’t just remove and replace the front sight to align with the rear peep. Anyway, I’ll keep my semi buck horns on there for now. I kinda like them.
Does the lume last all night on yours? Thanks!

How can you calculate what percent of your wrist the watch should cover? And do you know why Omega stopped the production of this size? I think smaller watches look slightly more elegant. Great video! 👍
I like a couple of mm on either side of the lugs... I should see a bit of the links on either side from the top down. You can meaure your wrist across the flat (like mine is 50mm) and go fromt there. I tried the Seamaster Heritage 300 and found 48mm too much. The Planet Ocean 39.5 is in my sweet spot. My wrist is 6.76" up to 6.96 depending on conditions and I have found that for me 38-40 is the sweet spoot with lug to lug of 45-47ish being perfect. Google watch size calculators and you will find some good resources. The 37.5 was pretty porky for its diameter and kind of got lost between a women's version (it came in the women's box) and a small version of a mens. If you like smaller check out the Black Bay 54, it's pretty bomber, the face was just a little small for me.
Bought my third today. 😊
Good vid, liked and subbed! I shoot a new R10X…shot card from the factory chrono speed showed 427 fps, all my shots over my ProChrono DLX are all 425-428 fps. I noticed that at 100 yd distances my arrows will drift right a couple of inches because of the right helical fletching. Prob what happened with your 100 yd shot as well. I don’t fool with the windage adjustment on the scope and click left a few, then you’ll be a little left at shorter ranges, I just do a little Kentucky windage and aim slightly left of dead center and they’re dead on the money with tight groups.
Love me some Kentucky windage!
I used the Tally High Mounts with Leupold VX Freedom 2-7 X 33 Objective Scope and was able to keep the Buckhorn Sights on the rifle. It gave the the scope just enough clearance from the buckhorn sights.
Have you spent enough time with it to report on the accuracy? I had a couple of the 62 mas with the 6r35 and they were all terrible.
The 3 143's I had... One was bad, one was medium (edge of spec) and one was good. The 451 is decent (last 10 days... 3,9,15,35,9,6,11,17,6,9) it would be nice if it was more consistent where as the SJE 117 with the 6L37 is generally running around +5 with fluctuation of 0 to + 9 (last 10 days 5,4,6,5,6,6,20,9,2,12). I don't know why they throw the outliers...
The finishing on the SJE 117 is really nice and you do get the 6L movement... might be the best MAS reinvention yet but they are pricey. I got a good deal or I wouldn't have paid retail. MIne is listed at ~1950 and I think that is about what it is worth. No way it is worth more than 2 times the SPB.
Cool! How’s the accuracy on this one?
@@Seffsqautch generally tends to be around +5 to 6 seconds per day with some oddball outlier days mixed in to keep me guessing (the SJE)

Wow! I'm impressed! I need to get one of those type of scopes.
While the scope is good, it is really the Ravin that is doing the work in this case. They are expensive but you can get the same limb technology from Centerpoint (CP400) though the trigger is not nearly as good.
Any updates about how it works for soothing clays? I want to buy one but I need to know little more about. Thanks
@@BerettaHdz i’ve been shooting this thing regularly. Never had a failure to fire. Never had a failure to eject. If you are engaged in gentlemanly or match style two shelves is all you need… My only complaint is when we go to the ranch you can use a slightly modified Beretta tube and have like 10 shells in there so you have to reload a lot less often.
I think the funky zip part is why they call it the "Divide"
yeah, I think you are right, I just didn't have a great use case for it. I guess you could stick a spotting scope/tripod in there...
Or a rifle 🤔
This is a great example to be used to show exactly how Seiko infuriates me. With its steel cylindrical groved insert and a more attractive anthracite dial, the older model is beautiful - more so than these. They went from the amazing insert of the SPB143 and the exceptional dial finish to this lackluster finish for the dial and bezel. They then put the corny “3 days” on the dial, yet in reality, it’s the same horrible 6R35 movement with an additional two hours of power reserve. They dropped the clasp with 4 micro adjusts to one with only two. Without swapping the clasp out with another Seiko clasp, which you can do, I wouldn’t be able to get a good fit. If I were lead of design at Seiko, I would have kept the original design, refined the dimensions, used a movement without a date, and would have tasked my engineers with making Seiko’s first true ‘on the fly quick micro adjust clasp.’ Currently, Seiko and Grand Seiko doesn’t have one. And, no, their ratcheting diver’s extension isn’t that. My refinements would have set the internet ablaze, and Seiko would finally have an exceptional mid-tier diver with desirable dimensions and looks. But no… we have this. Sold mine due to tons of QC issues and an inaccurate 6R35, all of which I fixed myself. I’m done with Seiko.
Excellent ponts that you just can't refute. Corny is the word for the text and a no date version would be most welcome. The problem is, they sell a gazillion watches so, until we demand better, they can continue in a vaccuum.
@@valhallaoutfitter yup. Seiko is a hardheaded company that doesn’t value the opinions of the wristwatch community. And it shows. Despite pleas from several content creators for years, Seiko insists on changing nothing.
My experience: I bought mine about a month ago. Gains 2 seconds/day, it is objectively beautiful and comfortable. The refinements on the case from previous model, are only improvements; the presence of the date, if you like this watch, is a no problem because it is practically invisible and at the same time a useful feature. It is perfect with any strap. The bezel finish is ok for me and this sapphire crystal is hypnotic. The only minus is the clasp, which in any case is perfectly functional. I think Seiko is right to follow its way, otherwise we would have a lot of similar watches between the different brands.
Thanks for showing it worn and not just folded on the table or holding it. Also appreciated the measurements and fitment comments. Would have been nice to see in some type of outdoor setting or in the rain/after a rain event.
Thank you for the feedback and the constructive ideas. I think when they are on sale (like now the jacket is ~$150) there is a lot of value there. If it ever rains in central Texas again I will add a video as per your suggestion; so far it has been great.
Love it
This gun is a real tack driver.
How does this compare to the Meopta?
Boy, that's a good question and there are a lot of variables. For the short version... I sold my Meoptas and the Burris, then missed the PH so much I bought another one. This is partly use case dependent however.... the techological advancement in the PH makes shooting predators at long range with a 22-250 simpler (that was the main reason). The glass in both is comparable and good. The Meopta really feels well built, and unless you get the latest version of the PH there is no illumination (except the HUD) and I liked the illumintation on the Meopta. If you go with the plain Veracity (no PH) the prices get closer, but comparing the PH to the Meopta the Meopta's cost less. There is A LOT of value in the Optika 6 line. I really like both lines, I would say you can make your decision based on if you want the tech in the PH or not, but both will perform admirably and give you years of service.
The Velcro on the pouch is a sure fire way to spook everything you’re trying to spot. Never ran scope caps or lens covers and I’ve NEVER scratched a lens. Waste of the users time. You don’t even know how to hold a monocular let alone review them.
Thanks for the feedback. There are many magnetic options... Sitka Fanatic pack has silent pockets, Badlands makes a variety of magnetic options. Sorry you felt like your time was wasted; we will continue to improve!
Then upload your own video showing how it's done you damn critic.
My ""54" came from Watch Dives and my "Pro" came from Addiesdive. Having the brilliant Seiko VH31 movement their accuracy is superb being more accurate PER MONTH than your watches are per day. To cap it all off, they can BOTH be had for less than $200 in total; thats right, 2 superb watches for less than £200... Why would anyone pay so much more for so much less, giving their hard-earned money to as dodgy an organisation as rolex.
@@ccooper8785 you are talking about a quartz movement… apples and oranges.
My next purchase likely. Thank you for the great review / info!
Sure thing! I thought it would be the one watch in a one watch collection... just a wee bit on the big side for me. 39mm is really my goldilocks... so evaluating a BB58 and BB54 now (both are great) and was planning on sending one down the trail. If neither of them melt my butter enough it will be back to the Planet Ocean and I will be all done.
Amazing
Really a great watch, just found I wasn't in love with the steel bezel.
You covered this a lot better than most videos I've seen. You may know something I don't, but last time I checked specs, SPOT transmits at only 0.4 watts, versus 1.6 for the InReach and 5.0 watts for the ACR PLB. If Spot has upgraded their signal strength is must be on the version after Spot Gen3.
@@jshepard152 thank you. I made this a while back and while doing some review it looks like you are right. I have had mixed experiences with the spot and would not rely only on the spot generally.
@@valhallaoutfitter InReach seems to work better than Spot if you need 2-way messaging. I think the Iridum constellation is probably a lot better than Globalstar, plus the Garmin device has a big power advantage.
What is the size of the front lens of your scope? I wonder if I should get the low or medium version of the mounts for Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x 42mm, also mounting on Franchi momentum Elite. Or I may be hitting the scope with the bolt lever If I go with the low?
The bolt throw on the momentum elite is 60 deg, so should not interfere with the scope. The scope in this video is a 3-18x 50. At the 3:06 mark I discuss how close I am to a 1/4 inch off the barrel. So, the difference between you 42 and my 50 is 8mm. 4 go up and 4 go down off center, so you have 4 extra mm than I do. A 1/4 inch is 6.35MM. 6.35+4= 7.35mm which is about the distance you would have to the barrel using the rings in this video; you can get lower rings. Hope this helps! I would get "low" and the make a "super low" for some set=ups that I would also consider, but low should work.
@@valhallaoutfitter Thanks much for your reply!
Why do scopes on lever guns look like they sit so far back?
That’s a really good question and that’s just where I had to put it for my eye relief. Even when I went down to the leupold VX 3 HD I noticed the same thing, and I think it is the norm given the fact that they make the hammer extender so you can reach the hammer from the side of a scope. Don’t have to worry about it anymore; I moved back to Skinner peep sights to take it back to basics
They are a 14” lop rifle. Marlin is 13” (better).
Both are amazing. The 54 suits my 6.5" wrist better and I personally prefer all of the refinements over the 58. With the BB size variants, GMT, Chrono and Pro there is a Black Bay for everyone 😊
I agree you really can’t go wrong either way. My wrist is 6.75 fluctuating up to 6.96. I would kind of prefer the 39 mm size with the lug to lug closer to 46 but c’est la vie.

What was the torque setting for the bases mate
17-20 in/lb on ring screws. Talley doesn't publish a number for the bases, I set my torque wrench around 23. You can call them, they are great about picking up. I think they told me to turn the bases screws until the supplied allen wrench flexes a little bit. Not very scientific, I know. It is possible (and not too hard) to strip these, so be careful or you will be ordering literally one screw from Talley.... ask me how I know.
Are you using the vanguard endeavor 10x42? Has this harness worked well for you?
I still have the Endeavors, and they are still doing great. I also picked up a Riton 5 spotter which I like a lot too (th-cam.com/video/a_BMibnCrH0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pOPecQBGODt4XRAP). Harness has been great, I like that you can switch between backpack mount and shoulder harness... overall pretty pleased.

Noticed it has a laptop sleeve, think the grey and coyote ones would work for school/office?
Actually, it might. I just checked for you, my Dell Inspiron 13 fits in that pouch; so depending on the size of your machine maybe so.
I have both the slate and mud versions, they were just on sale for $35 on MidwayUSA. Either would be fine for EDC I think, they're pretty "clean" in terms of tactical look. The thin molle is very unobtrusive. Slate would be best for everyday use I think, very neutral color.

Now I’m using precision Hunter almost exclusively across my 243 6.5 and 6.5 PRC
@@valhallaoutfitter Good to know. I've only tried Hornady 140gr American Gunner in my rifle, Savage 110 desert tactical, with o.k. accuracy. Less than 100 rounds thru the rifle so it's too early to tell. Will try other brands and bullet weights.
She rlly said weeeeeeh!
The bolt only makes this sound straight from the box. When the coating wears off it's almost totally silent. Give it 100-200 rounds and a lube job, voila. 😉
Agreed, just needed to break in a bit. This rifle is dead nutz...took a buck in the fall with it. Every bit as good as my new x-bolt pro tungsten w/the carbon fiber (6.5 prc).
8 seconds in a day 🙆♂️ should be in a month
The movement leaves something to be desired; this 24 jewel 6R35 seems almost universally hated. Only running at 21.6 beats/hr improves power reserve to 70 hrs but I would much rather have precision over accuracy... +25 to -15 PER DAY while the NH35 is rated worse, mine run better in practice. However, if I want accuracy I reach for my Seamaster 300... though I must say the planet ocean was within 2 sec a day and this Heritage lollipop is right on the bubble of METAS depending on position.
Purchased one of these guns about 3-4 years ago, I use it for Clays and Skeet. Think I paid 1050 at the time. My wood is darker than the one in this videoe. Very pleased with the way it shoots. Two things to note. It has an auto safety. The colored Case Hardening finish will wear off the gun from handling. I always carry it by holding the forearm now when opened Also I don't care for the orange case it came in.
I like how mine shoots too. Good point on the auto safety (I could live without it). I didn't know the finish will wear off, I don't get mine out that often. Totally agree on the case, its pretty puny.
You can easily disable the auto safety. Take the stock off, remove the metal bar and put a roll pin where it was attached. It’s been a few years since I did this. I think there is a video on TH-cam.
