This is a great example to be used to show exactly how Seiko infuriates me. With its steel cylindrical groved insert and a more attractive anthracite dial, the older model is beautiful - more so than these. They went from the amazing insert of the SPB143 and the exceptional dial finish to this lackluster finish for the dial and bezel. They then put the corny “3 days” on the dial, yet in reality, it’s the same horrible 6R35 movement with an additional two hours of power reserve. They dropped the clasp with 4 micro adjusts to one with only two. Without swapping the clasp out with another Seiko clasp, which you can do, I wouldn’t be able to get a good fit. If I were lead of design at Seiko, I would have kept the original design, refined the dimensions, used a movement without a date, and would have tasked my engineers with making Seiko’s first true ‘on the fly quick micro adjust clasp.’ Currently, Seiko and Grand Seiko doesn’t have one. And, no, their ratcheting diver’s extension isn’t that. My refinements would have set the internet ablaze, and Seiko would finally have an exceptional mid-tier diver with desirable dimensions and looks. But no… we have this. Sold mine due to tons of QC issues and an inaccurate 6R35, all of which I fixed myself. I’m done with Seiko.
Excellent ponts that you just can't refute. Corny is the word for the text and a no date version would be most welcome. The problem is, they sell a gazillion watches so, until we demand better, they can continue in a vaccuum.
@@valhallaoutfitter yup. Seiko is a hardheaded company that doesn’t value the opinions of the wristwatch community. And it shows. Despite pleas from several content creators for years, Seiko insists on changing nothing.
My experience: I bought mine about a month ago. Gains 2 seconds/day, it is objectively beautiful and comfortable. The refinements on the case from previous model, are only improvements; the presence of the date, if you like this watch, is a no problem because it is practically invisible and at the same time a useful feature. It is perfect with any strap. The bezel finish is ok for me and this sapphire crystal is hypnotic. The only minus is the clasp, which in any case is perfectly functional. I think Seiko is right to follow its way, otherwise we would have a lot of similar watches between the different brands.
