Sewing my ideas and concepts into wearable items using secondhand materials. 💖
Hoi!! Welcome to my channel! Here's a little about me:
I am Canadian but I moved to the Netherlands a few years ago. I was always into fashion and clothes since I was young. My mom taught me how to sew, I did a course in high school, and eventually went to fashion design college in Toronto. Once I finished college I worked in the industry in the city for several years until I moved to The Netherlands!
Now I am focusing on growing my personal brand, focusing on using only materials I thrift and find secondhand. I show my full creative process, design, drafting, sampling, and sewing. A lot of my ideas randomly pop into my head and my channel is all about exploring those ideas further to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
I hope you enjoy! 🫶🏻

understanding sewing patterns and showing what they do // SEW WITH ME
Ever wondered what the pattern of clothes, more specifically, a jacket look like? This is how to make a jacket, the process of pattern drafting and sewing a complete garment. I put the pattern on display by sewing it to the exterior of the garment. Hopefully it will spark the curiosity of those around me!

i made a dress from paper (~1000 perfume testers) // UPCYCLE and SEW WITH ME

Upcycling almost 1000 perfume testers into a dress this week! I got my hands on a ton of perfume testers and I immediately imagined them as fringe so it was fun to bring this to life. I started by making a base dress from cotton and proceeded to add each tester one by one in rows to create the "fringe". I hope you enjoy and that it inspires you to look at "trash" differently. ;) subscribe to s...

I love this!! I saw something similar with a t-shirt, not as detailed though. I also perfer to serge my seams after they are together and have wondered why instructions often tell you to do it separately.
WOW that's so so cool! What a genius idea!
thank you so much!!
*me having used my shears for paper and packaging for a long time* "haha yeah definitely fabric only :)))"
😲 brave! lol
This is FIRE! 🔥 Totally gives me ‘Next in Fashion’ vibes-such a creative way to showcase pattern making! Now I need to try something like this... 👀😅
thank you!! i absolutely LOVE that show haha. you should definitely try
Omg, I want that pattern!
I think with everyone on the aspect that this is very cool 😎
thank you so much!
SOOOO COOOOOOL
THANK YOU!!!
Ok this is interesting. Almost a grunge look, inside out. However, I thought your embroidery pieces were going to be the lining.
Thank you! I wanted them to be showcased for others to see so I put them on the outside. ☺️
Coolest jacket, ever!! Boxy chic attitude. Just my style! I'd def wear it with a straight cut or skinny jean/, missy t-shirt with a French phrase or something for spring/summer or a woven turtleneck for winter. Add a cross-body couture purse. Shoes either casual court shoes or a heel (any height) depending on the pants. I'm currently making a hand-bound couturier history book full of antique fabrics, trims, basic patterns from 1926 school of costume design (nearly antique), and of course, a few miniature toile & paper pattern cutouts for miniature fashions that will fit in the book. I want to make your jacket in miniature! Are you selling this jacket (or similar)? I realize all that hand embroidery takes sooo long! But it would sell, I'm sure!!
Love this idea of your book, sounds amazing. I'm not selling the jacket no, just an inspiration for others! It could be possible to use an existing jacket pattern to make something similar.
@@eleanorstieva yes, the book will be. I'm in awe with the amount of antique ephemera, trims, embroidery samples I'm finding (and making) for it. They deserve to be preserved and enjoyed by us (not just in the archives at the couture houses or museums). As for your jacket I think I can do that instead - find a similar pattern. If I make it in miniature, I'll definitely tag you on Instagram. I'm glad I found your channel. You are having the best adventure; where you live, what you are making and sewing. Bravo!
@ that would be appreciated, thank you! All the best in your book making, it sounds like an amazing adventure.
This one might be my favorite from all your ideas 😍 soooo fire🔥 wow
same! haha, but thank you so much 💖
This is sooooo cool!!
thank you ☺️
Ahhh that’s so cool you could sell jackets like that 😃 You inspired me to make something like that it looks FREAKING COOL! 🤩
Go for it! I'd love to see if you do something similar!
Very unique! Well done 👏 I’m just starting in this world and make alterations on my clothes and my husband’s clothes and I love it! But I am afraid of starting a big project like making a garment from scratch because I don’t have the patience to do it, I like to see the results the same day 😅 it’s crazy 🤭 Easy projects for beginners please!
Love that you're getting into sewing! It's a lot of fun. There's some easier projects coming ;)
I'm the opposite: it's much easier to cut just fabric then dare touch a wearable piece I need to alter :) Circle skirts are like the best for beginners, btw
Super original idea, I love it! ❤
thank you! 😊
You have boutique yes or no
i just have a website: eleanorstieva.com/
The shirt ties might sit better if you added belt loops on the side seams. The loops could just be made from floss that is chain looped.
very true!
Cute!! 😀🙌✨
The robe turned out so cute!! You did a great job in picking the perfect project for the scrap fabric. Thank you so much for sharing this! 😀🙌✨
Thank you! 😊
Excellent tips!! Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙌🙌🙌
Glad it was helpful!
Hi! If you need muslin you should ask for "baalkatoen" Thanks for taking us to the market with you :)
Speaking of sewing grandma’s.. My grandma bought a brand new one for me because she wants me to carry on the “legacy” of sewing.. It also has a million stitch options. (Thank you so much grandma)
aww that's so sweet of her!! grandma's are the best!
You are so lucky to have a market where you can really get anything. I live in a small village in Belgium and there are usually only 3 - 5 stalls here. Bread, roast chicken, fruit and vegetables and the most outdated women's clothing. That's it. I'm so jealous. The nearest larger market around here is Breda or Antwerp. For the fabric you could try asking for "painting canvas" (schildersdoek). When I used to ask a seller at the market, they knew that I needed unprocessed cotton.
The benefits of being in the bigger city I guess! Thank you for the tip!
you might enjoy visiting smitje's store in Eindhoven
ooo i didn't know they have a store! whenever I go to Eindhoven next ill pop by for sure :)
Hiii this is so fun! I'm going to Maastricht in two weeks. I live by the sea in the North! We're arriving in Maastricht on friday so I don't know whether I can visit the market or not. Thanks for sharing :)
It goes from the early morning until 15.00 - hopefully you will have the chance to visit, maastricht is super cute!
Super helpful! You also touched base on the most helpful knowledge for this. I screen print so I’m hoping to start sewing 🪡
glad to hear it was helpful!!
I'm from germany and twice a year there is a "dutch fabric market" in my hometown and I loved going there. Recently I moved to Belgium and your video reminded me that I now live very close to these original markets - I can just visit them! Looking forward to visiting Maastricht, I will try to be there on a Friday. Thank you for this market tour, it really inspired me 🌷
Love that! you should definitely visit the market, so many special things <3
That yellow elasticated embellishment on the chenille dress.... 🤔
Oh, that looks so fun! I've been trying to find a good variety of fabric, bias bindings and zippers around here. It’s a shame we don’t have a proper sewing supply store in Maastricht, but I’ll definitely check out the market. Especially now that the weather has finally gotten better! 🧵🌞
You definitely need to go! It has the best options by far for Maastricht. There's also a small market that happens on Wednesdays that have a few fabric stands. Sometimes notions also but not always.
Yay! I've been so curious about this! Its something I envy about Europe/non-USA+CA places, the markets.
Yea, they're amazing!
Hi, just checked in a book I have (in dutch) called Moulage, kunst en vakmanschap in modegeschiedenis. They call muslin: toile / ongebleekt katoen. I would personally say ongebleekt katoen, it has the best chance of being understood. Hope this helps ❤ liefs uit Antwerpen
this is soooo helpful, thank you!!! I will try that next time :)
@ jip. Nedelanders gebruiken meer Engels, Belgen leer Frans.
Depending on where you live there could be libraries with sewing machines that you can use for free, so it’s worth checking out
love that!
I just started sewing and I feel like I am really struggling to cut things right for altering and stuff. I am marking the fabric and measuring but I feel like I am measuring things kind of in a janky way. I use one of those measure boards, fabric scissors and a ruler. Are there any tips you could give for being better with measuring things properly.
love that you're getting into sewing! do you mean for hems? like shortening items? or just measuring for alteration in general?
@ measuring in general 😅
@ I always use the soft measuring tape and a sewing ruler (the transparent ones) - i feel i get the most accurate measurements from those. when altering an item, I usually measure, pin, try on, and repeat that process a couple times before I even cut. This way i am 100% sure when I do eventually cut the fabric.
Very cute! You've inspired me to look over my towel collection.
Go for it!
Wow this is so much fun! I'm gonna try to make the scarf! I'm curious, how did you finish the edges of the slit/open for the scarf after you cut it open? Thank you!!
So I actually started by facing right sides together and sewing the rectangular opening first, cutting a slit down the middle of it, opening it and flipping the right side out, then sewing around the whole perimeter of the scarf using the rolling sausage method. Hope this helps!
@@eleanorstievathank you so much !!!! I’ll tell you how it went when I do it 😊 I just found your channel and I really love your content. Looking forward to follow along your sewing adventures!
@@charlottemundloch7033 thank you! 🎀🫶🏻
Put them all on a coat! And show your granddaughters! Or... make necklaces/ brooches with similar color schemes! I love buttons, too.
a button coat could be really fun!
You should attach the sleeves before sewing the side seams when you have less tailored shoulders.
It's definitely one way of doing it! I always serge my seams together so then I prefer to sew like how i did in the video. That way I can alternate which way my seams face to create less bulk in the underarm.
Love this very much
thank you :)
I liked the loose hood but, also, did have handmaids tale vibes 😊
haha very much so. maybe best for another project
I vote for making the dress. 😊
i think it would be a fun dress, but let's see how it drapes!
I wonder if your amazing bedspread is made from candlewick fabric?
I'm not sure, because it says candlewick fabric is unbleached cotton and mine is very white and has the yellow cotton throughout as well. It does look like an imitation of candlewick fabric though.
Cute! Ive really come around to having a robe -- daily luxury 🥰
So true!

Yay! Thank you!
I prefer the vintage 1950s Singers to any of the modern plastic 'n electronics machines. Simple, super rugged, reliable, and easy to maintain. Often $50 or less in a fold up table.
I would love to sew on one of those one day!
So fun!
