John Deere 385 Round Baler Twine Cutter Issue: Part 1 of 4

John Deere 385 Round Baler Twine Cutter Issue: Part 1 of 4
For other 385 baler owner. I bent my primary tine arm I think it ran into the stuck cutter. To repair it I disconnected the 19 mm bolt to the hydraulic arm, punched out the spring pin under the arm with a 5/32 pilot punch; cut the crumpled sections, bent it back into shape, checked fit and clearances, then welded it back together.
My 385 behaved wonderfully last year and I pulled her out of the barn today for a new haying year but on the first bale the twine arms got bound up and failed. On initial inspection the primary arm was seriously bent. I can remove the connection to the hydraulic and the secondary arm but I’m at a loss on how to remove the primary arm. I’ve managed to partially bend it back, but not enough to get a good bale wrap. Any ideas on how to remove the primary twine arm? Thanks for the videos!🎉 I’ll send my cell number to the email that was listed Joe
Happy New Year
Hi density glass? Less air bubbles? I’m sorry sir, but neither of those are correct.
Thank you for your comment. Bless your heart. Please don't be sorry. Have a good day.
Have you ever changed the belt splice pins? After fighting the pins, for 6 hours, on a 459 silage special baler we swapped a 8row Unverfurth strip-till rig for, it is now a yearly practice
Yes I have. Silage is tough on belts.
How old is this cutter?
It broke the 2nd season I used it. The hubs were turned way too tight. I believe torque should be 130 foot pounds. Hubs were torqued at 190 if I recall. Thus it should have slipped as designed. I think it's 2018 I think
We have 4 Krone easy cut 320s going on 7 years which utilizes a completely different module drive system in a completely enclosed welded, permentaly lubricated bar.... The power is transmitted down the rear of the bar to each turtle.... not from one to the next in line....
Would it be possible to have a phone conversation about your 385 Baler? Chris Franklin Dalton, GA
Sure, send your phone number to kellysherosfan@gmail.com. I'll call you. Thus our phone numbers won't be posted for the world to see.
I got a problem with John Deere baler
Whats wrong
What's up
New Holland uses A Segmented cutter bar and the power is transmitted down the length of the bar from one segment to the next. And has to change from horizontal to vertical power transmission and back to horizontal..... using bevel gears and splined shafts... We use Krone Easy-Cut 320s......With Shear-pin protected Safety cut hubs.
I have same unit gonna try her out first time tomorrow!
BEST Damn video I've seen on this in years !!!! And don't ask a John Deere Service Manager about this subject. He just rolls his eyes. Thank you Al.....
Subscribed and thank you sir.....
We have all kinds of crap wrong with this 535 Baler.....and this video is helping us get them worked out !!!! Thank you one million times.
Thanks. I'm just a regular guy. I'm glad to help. If you have any questions. Just ask or subscribe and view my other 5 parts on the John Deere baler. Ill try to help.
I have the 17500 model and neglected the fuel for the last 7-8 months and it wouldn't start. I drained it, turned it over with plugs out to expell water. I also made sure plugs were good and getting fire. I turned it over and over with nothing. The wifey was sitting there about 3ft away in a chair watching TikTok. I dumped a little gas into the air filter area and put her on choke. She started very briefly and the backfire shot about sent the wife to the moon 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great information 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Merry Christmas.

Thank you, I have 435 and was looking for a video with just this info.
Thanks, I need to make another video to show the other adjustments on the two twine arms. Timing is everything and there are several adjustments on the arms and an adjustment on the hydraulic cylinder that i have not discussed....
