Perhaps the question isn’t why haven’t the Orioles extended anyone, but why don’t the players want to sign extensions with the Orioles.
Once Gunnar walks away, the O's will be back in the middle of the division
Either extend Gunnar or Adley or trade for Luis Castillo. Those are the only moves I’d make this off-season. Trade proposal: Castillo for Mountcastle, McDermott, and Fabian.
Let’s look at our roster to see who we would like to extent. Henderson,Westburg and Holliday. They are all Boras clients who he typically don’t allow to accept extension. That leave Rutchman and Mayo as possibilities. Mayo is a trade chip so extending him limits his tradability. Adley is basically the only one that could be extended
The A's must have heard you. They just extended Rooker. Orioles now stand alone
Talking certainty and Gunnar not extending, when would you trade him for a haul, like the Nats & Soto. Plus they can then move Jackson to SS, where he prefers to be. That might boost him at the plate.
And then a few hours later the A’s extend Rooker 😂
was just gonna say this! hahaha
Asking why the Orioles haven't extended players is like asking why my dog hasn't learned to fly. It's just not a thing, man. I WISH it would happen, but it's impossible.
I would be delighted if they extend Felix Bautista and/or Zach Eflin.
The thing you guys never consider is that MLB players don’t want to live and raise their families in Maryland. Unless a player like Cal Ripken comes along who grew up in Maryland, no extensions will likely happen.
Mailbag question: Castillo for Urias, Beavers, and Kremer? Who says no? What would a package look like now that we have so many starting options?
I'd rather trade for Cease and offer a 4 year/$100 Million contract extension or Bryce Miller and offer up Mayo or Jackson. Also, I'd love for the O's to sign Bregman to a 3/75 contract.move Westy to 2nd and Trade Jackson for a pitcher.
That seems fine considering how much 💰 is owed to Castillo? But we also have to beat other teams offers.
I wouldn't mind an extension with Santander it probably won't get the Os to the Series I just love watching him hit five or six days a week.
Man, get Framber Valdez!
Tell him to develop a knuckleball!
Gunner is the best and should be first
Then sign westy let adley Walk he's not going to be a catcher much longer
First extension should be Gunner
I would like to see Adley get an extension because the O's have been regular season winners since he joined the team. He just makes the team better. He did not finish 2024 strong but his ceiling is high, and it would be good to sign him when his bargaining power is not as strong as it will be. Jordan Westburg is the other O I would like to see extended. He is such a dog at the plate and on the field. He is such a clutch player that the Orioles missed when he was on the injured list.
Westburg is a Boras client. Boras doesn’t let his clients do extensions. Ditto, Henderson and Hoillday
2nd rate organization
Because Mike Elias has been too busy cosplaying as the “Executive Vice President of Content” for FS1 and banging Joy Taylor (google Charles Dixon fox and tell me he don’t look familiar)
It should be Westy right now. He hasnt blown up yet but he will. Gunnar gets all the attention because hes already awesome. Westy will be awesome as well.
Smart, aggressive organizations, extend their players. Elias is so risk adverse, I am not sure he will "decide" who should be extended, in time to make it viable.
Any word on Anthony Santander yet ? Last I heard, Toronto was offering 20 million acyear for 5 years
On Foul Territory, they stated that some teams avoid Scott Boras clients altogether…i honestly believe that he will almost single handedly bring down the O’s…I think he’ll ask for 800m for Gunnar which is dumb. The only way we keep him, in my opinion, is if the 2027 lockout brings changes to baseball. The RSN fallout isn’t nearly complete and it will be the elephant in the room at the next CBA.

Fav moment of 2024 was any anthony grand slam. We really will be lost without him!!
Pirates done ext too
I am trying my hardest to not be doom and gloom but I just don't see any reason to think we are going to change our payroll approach any day soon.
The Orioles Opening Day payroll is on track to be the 2nd-highest in franchise history
@@LockedOnOrioles I don't understand all these commentors that say things like this, and it's not just this dude, not trying to pick on him. It's frankly all over the place. We've clearly spent more money the last year and a half than we had in the previous years, but people seem to either ignore it, or they weren't actually Orioles fans a few years ago and have no clue how low our payroll actually was. It's almost like people expected us to turn in to the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers, and anything short of that is just the "same old, same old". It's ridiculous how unreasonable so many folks seem to be. I don't know how you don't pull your hair out reading these types of comments all the time. I know it makes me want to, sometimes.
7 years ago before massive inflation we spent 180. Current day value is probably. Close to 1.5x what we’re spending now. That’s with ANGELOS. This 140 ain’t shit
Doing better doesn’t mean doing well. Old ass has beens and guys that K every other AB. Nothing significant. Team is worse than it was in OCT. That’s all that matters.
@@drewc771 I mean you are just not being genuine. Benchmarking our spending against franchise history is great for patting yourself on the back but means nothing when benchmarking against the rest of the league. We were the 29th highest payroll in 2023, the 22nd highest payroll in 2024, and are on pace to be the 19th highest in 2025. The Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers are all on pace to be in the top 5 for 2025. So there is a ton of middle ground between where we are currently, and me "expecting us to turn into the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers." Connor has stated ON THIS SHOW that teams in the top 15 payrolls have won 27 of the past 29 World Series, 14 of those teams were in the top 5. So great that we spent more than we had before, but are far behind our competitors, have been far behind them for a long time, and do not show any intention of catching up to them. Doesn't feel like I'm "all over the place" to me. Go pull your hair out.
How many of those other teams extensions had Boras as the agent? My understanding is he does not like doing it and if he does I am sure it will not be much of a bargain
Boras works for the player. The player decides.
@@donsmith3483 yeah it is just an anomaly that none of his clients do. The player hires the agent to take his advice not just to have someone to give 10% of his contract to. If they are hiring Boras they are going to listen to what he says and he is going to tell them to wait.
Rubestein is a cheap ass.
The Oriole Way, means something so different than it used to. It’s time for the new ownership group to show that they aren’t cut from the same cloth.
For the record, I would have preferred Povich over Morton.
I love the move, IF, they acquire someone else. This "patchwork" rotation is not good enough to go far in the playoffs. Relying on young players progression, as well as counting on Braddish/Wells, is a PROVEN receipt for failure. Connor: Please don't turn into Roch/Steve M. Making comments that this rotation is good enough to push this team deep into the playoffs, its foolish. Don't underestimate the knowledge of the O's fan base.
To the naysayers: If you know more about the business of baseball then by all means unload yiur best shots on Elias. No? Ok, then disagree and save the opiknion. Elias has a proven track record, a long tenure with Houston, where he built a dominant team. Now, in Baltimore, he is doing the same thing. I get the frustration, i have been a fan since I was eight in 1979, soic anyone agould complain, I could. Why, though, would I want to do that? Elias is a savior, and I continue to trust the process. We are Orioles fans, NOT entitled Yankee fans, so we should act accordingly.
Who's pitching for the Orioles in 2026 with any of these trades mentioned. Sugano for 1 in 25; Eflin 1 in 25; Morton for 1 in 25; Cease rental for 1 in 25; Framber rental for 1in 25????
Mountcastle, McDermott, griff o’ferral for Luis Castillo
Morton is a bargain at $13 million; who else can you get for that amount.? The Orioles were not going to outbid the Dodgers for Snell, or the Yankees for Freid, and Burnes was not coming back because he wants to live at his year-round home. I think your analysis is spot on. The O's now have a clear eight starting pitchers, and can include a younger one in a deal for Castillo or whoever else is at the top of their list, along with a prospect or two.
For weeks now, I've been thinking the exact same thing about signing a vet and trading a starter in a package for a front of the rotation guy. My hope has been that it's Kremer because for a team that's competing, he's more of a sure bet than guys like Povich and McDermott. Plus, I really don't want to trade Povich. I hope that comes true and my number one wish is Pablo Lopez. The Twins are exploring an ownership change and if so, will likely want to cut payroll. Lopez has three years on his contract which is important since Morton, Sugano and Eflin are all free agents after this year
I like this signing. The O’s seem to have a solid rotation, lineup, and bullpen. I can see this team easily winning the AL east despite moves made by other teams in the division.
Lol. I like your way off enthusiasm
Haha what a joke. You think the Yankees are scared of this move? This Orioles ownership group is just like the Angelos family. They’ll spend zero money on actual difference makers and just hope and pray the kids are good enough to win anything before they’re all sold off. Show me the money.
