I started working in cancer research as a clinical coordinator five months ago as of today. In particular, my team mainly works with phase I drug trials for patients who have advanced terminal cancer. As a coordinator, I am responsible for patients on studies where I am their primary point of contact and am the one who orchestrates their entire schedule, sees them at every clinic visit, and essentially am the one who walks them through the whole experience of participating in the clinical trial. The nature of this work is that the patients who turn to us for these phase I trials do so because they have largely run out of options that can help prolong their life, even if they know there is no cure. They are staring death in the face and have nowhere else to go. Their loved ones feel the impending doom of sinking into the depths of the ocean and having to learn to swim again whenever cancer takes its mortal stroke to cut the ties of life of their beloved. Sometimes we do have beautiful success stories where patients who normally had months to live have been on study for years, even almost a decade. This and the connections I make with each patient to humanize their experience beyond just being a cancer patient, to see and value the good they bring and have brought this world as I help them navigate their time on study, is what makes all the work worthwhile. The unfortunate reality, though, is that many of our patients do not find the success others have had and end up passing within a short period of time due to disease progression. It has been difficult for me to process what it means to be in this career and to fear or expect imminent death with each new patient I take. I work in the arena of death and the dying. When I found this video, it stirred up emotions that made me cry in bed for 45 minutes at 4:00am after waking up in the middle of the night, having accidentally fallen asleep with the lights on and my teeth unbrushed. I initially wasn't sure why the music and visuals made me feel this way, but then I noticed a common theme in the comment section: the sound of tornado sirens harmonizing is like everyone knowing the end is near but feeling peace and acceptance with fate. With the fear, chaos, and destruction that rip through the lives of those around me, I hope that all the forces can align so that this is the tranquility and closure my patients and I can experience as I walk with many of them to the edge of the unknown to say our parting goodbyes as they step across the veil. Knowing that while the end is near, and we may not have the power to change that forever, what matters most is holding tight, loving thy neighbor, and ensuring that nobody has to do this alone. You can lay at rest now. Thank you, by the way, to anyone who took the time to read this through. I sometimes feel lonely in what I am struggling with since the average person doesn't, and won't ever, really know what it is like to work in such intimate quarters with death on a daily basis. But just know that you are loved.

It’s been about 5 years since the infection of a mutated, aggressive strain of rabies able to infect humans and transmit through bites broke out. You’ve been wandering the wasteland ever since and haven’t seen another living human in about 3 years. Only infected. Until one day you see a city with lights on and huge concrete walls all around it. Overjoyed you run towards it and a soldier fires a warning shot from the wall and tells you to stop, drop your weapons and put your hands up and tells you they just need to test if you’re infected. You obviously comply because this is your first time seeing another human in 3 years. 2 other soldiers come out of the gate with their rifles aimed at you and test you with some sort of thermometer type device and check you for bites. Once they see you’re not infected they lower their weapons and say “we welcome you with open arms. There’s a place for you here. We have houses, food, running water, electricity , heating, medicine and doctors. We have thousands of other survivors and hundreds of armed soldiers and even working military vehicles protecting this place. You’re the first survivor that’s come here in about 2 years.” They escort you inside and see the most beautiful thing you’ve seen since the outbreak. Men, women, children all walking around without a care in the world. Not having to worry about food or water or infected. Just like before the outbreak. You can’t take it anymore and burst into tears. One of the soldiers says “it’s ok, you’re safe here.” You’re finally safe after 5 years of surviving the outbreak. You can’t take finally live a normal life again.

I can picture someone sitting atop a mountain overlooking a destroyed city while he looks at his home below and wondered "is this the end?" As the sun gets bigger and bigger, eventually it will swallow up the Earth, he just looked up and smiled knowing that he can finally go and meet his family after many long years of surviving and eventually, the sun completely wipes off the Earth erasing everything as the person says "im coming home..." before accepting his fate and embracing the end of the world peacefully without regrets and being able to rest in peace and leave this world

This is so perfect it should be in every movie that involves disaster where a character accepts his or her faith

I'm sitting in my little space. Listening to this. Imagining it all. The day I've opened my eyes. So much has happened. The only thing i could describe this as. Is a hurricane of emotions. Everything came swirling up at once. Never...did i think I'd been building up a raging tornado that's gone on for 5 years..hearing this. Makes everything...so clear. The clouds finally clearing. The sun shining on my face. I look at my hands. The size they were when i was 10..it all came together....time for me. To rest easy now...to finally put the storm to rest...it make it all...go...quiet.

Imagine hearing the tv go blaring and hear the sirens it would honestly make me a tiny bit of hope maybe I can open my eyes once more maybe this can all be over maybe.. I can have an other chance at this thing called life.

Like, with how beautiful yet scary, so calming yet frightening it is reminds me of the ocean and the deep waters.
