Don't trail ride without these 20 things! | WetCoastFab
Without breaking the bank or taking up too much room, take these 20 items with you to give yourself the best chance of getting home after a breakdown.
Hit the trails with your Coleman BT200X, equipped with more than just enthusiasm-equip mindfulness and readiness. My video introduces a thoughtfully assembled kit, designed not to solve all problems, but to enhance your preparedness for common challenges encountered in the wilderness without breaking the bank.
Envision a journey where you're not deterred by the small hiccups-like minor mechanical quirks or navigational surprises. Instead of promising fixes, this kit aims to provide support, helping you address basic issues that might otherwise cut your adventure short.
Think of this not as a universal solution, but as a companion that lends a hand in situations like managing a loose bolt, aiding in minor first aid, or providing temporary solutions to keep you moving.
This kit encourages a mindset of readiness and resilience. It's about making informed decisions when faced with the unexpected, and having the resources to adapt. It's not about carrying a magic wand, but about having a practical approach to typical trailside troubles.
Join me in exploring how to prepare for the unpredictability of nature and mechanics. Share in the comments your experiences and what you carry for peace of mind on your rides.
As always, this information is provided for entertainment purposes only and only you can make the decision for yourself whether this information is correct and appropriate for you and your skill set.

    I went to the Amazon link and bought the pack of two LED’s. They are listed as P15D low / high beam. Neither work in the Coleman bt200x. I double checked them with a 12volt battery, they work with the base as the ground itself and when you touch the positive lead to one of the two contact spots on the bottom it works, one contact is high beam and the other contact is low beam. The original Coleman light is wired without a “base” ground and the two bottom contacts are the power contacts for AC power. It seems that the new LED bulbs are for DC power with a base ground?

      Hey Glen! Yup, I'm still running the same LED bulb a year later. I'm thinking I want to add a bit to it now to smooth out the voltage from the engine's coil so it doesn't flicker quite so much at idle.

    Why can't you use flexible hose the entire way instead of hard line?

    • @wetcoastfab
      @wetcoastfab หลายเดือนก่อน

      I could, but for a couple reasons: the longer the flexible hose is, the less rigid it is so the brakes would get 'soft' as the hose expands with brake pressure, and to counteract that, a stainless braided hose would work, like on most motorcycles, but that stuff is spendy and a lot harder to work with.

    i always thought the needle is for 25-75 percent throttle, the main jet controls the wide open supply. if too rich at wide open, maybe a smaller main could fix it?

    • @wetcoastfab
      @wetcoastfab หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're absolutely right! The needle is also tapered as well, so as it moves up with more throttle, the cross section of the main tube gets larger, feeding more fuel - dependant on the opening of the main jet hole, of course!

      @wetcoastfab หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never too late, and thank's for the comment! I've seen people use left-hand drill bits to pull out sheared-off bolts too; I bet it'd work great on the jet as well, although I don't have any left-hand bits. I should get some.

    Although that is a slick flaring tool, it's $300 in Canada. The other one is $35 and if you place it in a vise I can make the same flares as that tool all day long. The problem with the more affordable one is people try to hold the tool in their hands while tightening to make the flare, resulting in off center flares, split flares and broken dies. If the tool is used properly, admittedly it's not quite as fast but it works equally as well. After 40 years of custom brake lines and nitrous systems I wore out the first tool and am on the second. So after my $70 investment over my career, I and made thousands. As many lines as I have done the Turret tool would be worth it but when I started there was no such thing and if there was most mechanics couldn't afford it. lol

    • @wetcoastfab
      @wetcoastfab หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you! I've used the same cheap flaring tool for years and just never seemed to get the hang of it, no matter how hard I tried! I'm happy now, even with the expense, knowing that my brake line flares' quality is as good as I can make them.

      I did! I have a 100 jet in there, which is pretty fat for a 196cc engine, and I have the needle on the lowest clip setting, so it allows the most fuel possible. Thanks for the feedback!

    • @Deucealive75
      @Deucealive75 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@wetcoastfab A 100 jet in a VM22 clone carb? That's a pretty lean jet for a 196. One thing that is easy to check is if the air filter is too restrictive. Take a run with the air filter off and see if anything changes. After the run look at the spark plug. One of my carbs came with the cone style air filter that was too restrictive and caused a rich condition. Ran much better with both no filter and a foam style filter. I'm at around 700 ft elevation. My stock 196's like a 120 main jet. My built 196 uses a 125 main. Let's say your filter is restrictive. If it runs good and the plug looks good you could run it that way but you are not getting the most out of the carb.

    Awesome video, very informative and great commentary. I have a 1987 dodge ram b250 5.2 v8, up in Canada eh! Wondering who/where is your go-to for ordering parts? My alternator is charging but not as it should, and is causing my batteries to discharge while driving.

    • @wetcoastfab
      @wetcoastfab 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, getting parts for these old vans are challenging! If I have the time, as in I can wait for the part, I usually order from Rock Auto. They have a good supply of the common stuff still. Otherwise, I try to get through either Lordco or Napa. Sometimes Amazon has the parts I'm looking for (just got a left brake caliper from Amazon.ca for $70, which is still pretty good). For your alternator, test your battery with a volt meter with the engine off and again with the engine on. It should go up to around 13.8v - 14.5v when running. Also check your belts - if they slip, they'll struggle when the alternator is trying to generate a lot of amps, like just after starting.

    I just started on a 52 F-1 project. I intend to restore mostly as original, including the flathead and three speed column shift. I will consider a brake modernization though. It would be nice to have a two chamber master, but most that I can find need a new location and pedal modifications, and are mostly designed for disc brakes (front) and power boosters. I owned and drove one of these 40 years ago, and don't recall the brakes being particularly weak. I won't be hot-rodding this, so how relevant is a modern disc brake conversion? Also not sure the disc conversion will fit inside the original steel wheels which I plan to keep using. Any recommendations on this? As for the $200 flaring turret tool, I see that I can buy a five piece hard line set in stainless for less $$. However, the truck I have is from a dry climate, and the current hard lines still look usable. Is there a way to test the lines, or determine if they are sound enough to continue using? Do they rust from the inside and harbor weaknesses unseen from the outside? I will definitely be replacing all the cylinders, flexible lines, and pads regardless. And I'm pretty sure I'll need new drums all around. Do you have a good source for new brake drums for a 1952? Thanks, Matt

    I use those hex standoffs to raise front of gas tank and make a little bracket to raise rear of it as well. Then i tap fuel outlet for 1/8 pipe tap threads. Add a fitting for a 3/16"" ( usually ) fuel line vs. the tiny stock id one and my fuel delivery issues are solved

    I did something similar except I rounded my console (half moon shaped) to eliminate sharp edges and for a clean OEM look. Wish I could upload a photo for you to see.

    Nice video - glad i watched it. Ty! I gotta say this but don't let it bother you - im 60, played drums (loudly!) for some 35+yrs, seen probably 100 or so concrrts (incl Ted Nugent, loudest live shows in history!), a wartime veteran (lotsa missle/explosion action, woohoo!), drywall hanger/metal framer..... my point? One ear, blown. Other, not so good. Your voice register, while not harsh - actually soothing?, is Soo hard to hear! (For me, that is) Thought it was just me & my old pal, tinnitus, but asked my wife & she agreed (& hell, we never agree!). You speak clearly, ty, just kinda quiet. Oh, well, my problem- ear buds should help, right? Btw, i thought you might want something between your radiator & the puller, pump, etc, like some cardboard or big cookie/pizza pan, to block a possible "Oops" into your radiator. You just never know when the gods of fate are gonna drop a deuce right next to your hands! Thanks again, enjoyed your work!

      Thanks for the radiator tip. I'm a old guy but as a working person never had time for a project like this. Now is the time. Tips like yours are important. How about trying an headset for your computer? After 50 years flying jets I've lost some hearing. Gettin' old ain't for sissies. LOL

    Maybe I missed it but how did you and to what did you connect the return line leading from the pump? Into the rad or another hose leading to the transmission cooler?

    The torq-a-verter has plenty of gearing, that being said, I have have great luck with installing a larger rear (+10 teeth) sprocket for acceleration. It did NOT seem to affect top speed.
