My own first piece

I told myself that in order to feel satisfied with my piano progress in 2023 I had to come up with my own piece, and I did it. I finished composing this on December 30th and was polishing my performance until today. I cannot express enough how many issues I have with this piece: the performance itself, same chord progression all throughout the song (which might seem kinda boring), I could have ...

С днем рождения, папуля! This is my first time recording with a pedal. To me, my pedaling sounds a little off, and I struggle to figure out whether it's the quality of the recording or if I am using the pedal incorrectly. Any feedback would be appreciated:)
How the pieces that I learned sounded before and after months of practicing
มุมมอง 4.3Kปีที่แล้ว
I recently posted a video of my one year of piano progress (th-cam.com/video/FsPmKMB1eG8/w-d-xo.html), and I thought that some of you might be interested in how the versions of the pieces that I posted developed over months of practice. So here is a detailed progress of most of the pieces that I learned in 2022. Hope some of you find this relatable :)
1 year of piano progress (400 hours, self-taught)
มุมมอง 478Kปีที่แล้ว
Here’s my one year of piano progress. When learning, I didn’t really use any books (but I definitely should have and I practice with Hanon now), but I watched lots of TH-cam videos. I studied a 3-hour music theory course by Marcs Piano where it taught all kinds of different chords, scales, and some arpeggios I believe, and I practiced them all. I also watched beginner practice videos by Pianote...

Watch yourself from the side, just like in this video. You'll see you're raising your fingers very high when they're not being used. This causes you to waste energy. Keep your hands supple and soft, with your fingers close enough to the keys to get to the next note quickly. Also watch your own video and look at how sometimes your knuckles buckle under backwards. You want to avoid this because it creates lurches in your phrasing. Take your tempo down several metronome marks so that you have time to focus on these fundamentals.

I recommend you to learn Passacaglia. It is very beautifull piece and the notes are easy to play. I am learning it by myself, and I must work a little on my left hand.

Then there's me who wants to improve my fingers but the piano can't , cause my piano is only 54 keys and some of the keys are delayed, on my first years it is very appropriate but then the time comes when my piano started to have illness HAHAHAHA. I really wanted to have 88 keys piano with pedal, and I promise someday I will buy myself.

i'll be playing a solid year within two months....i concentrate more on technical exercises....they say it takes 8-10yrs to become real proficient in piano....i'll try to do it in 4-5yrs...i can't play by ear or haven't tried memorizing any pieces yet....i don't think i'll be taking any music courses either....but having to play by ear or a very good sense of memorizing music is a real talent by itself....i'll recommend Czerny Dexterity (op 740)....this book is like a marathon on your fingers on steroids....if you can play 10-15 music scores i guarantee you that you'll be able to play any concert pieces you like....being able to see the keys will eliminate playing wrong notes....you are one of the lucky ones.

It seems like ChatGPT is playin. Try to put in some dynamics into your movement. Well a good thing, is that you hit the right notes. Maybe also try consider buying a sustain pedal. Keep the work up tho!

I’m amazed at how you managed to keep a somewhat good finger positioning although I can see some tension. But I’m a whole other level of tension; my pinky is always pointing upwards and it’s so awkward. I think I need to invest in some technique exercises but the thing is I’m also self taught and I don’t think I’m disciplined enough to practice hanon especially with my studies. Sometimes I only manage 10 minutes a day and I always use that to practice the 6-7 pieces I know so that I don’t forget them and I end up stuck at my level and not improving. And even for the pieces I know I never played one fully correct continuously. I always mess up a couple notes even when I play slow.

You're really talented for playing that kind of music in such a short time! And that's the only reason why I say this: do yourself a favor and find a teacher to work with. Maybe not every week, but at least a few sessions to iron out the technical issues you're going to have. The small things (like tension) add up and will make your level of playing less than you're fully capable of. When you wait too long, it will be harder to fix those problems. And as other people say: go use a sustain pedal. I've been a professional teacher for 20+ years now and my first thought when I see you play is: wow, she has a lot of talent, someone must help her fully develop her potential!

FYI for all beginner piano enthusiasts. Ear training can extend progress exponentially. The objective with ear training is to be able to identify and isolate any of the twelve notes just by listening. Each note has a signature sound. Although there’s eighty notes on the piano, they’re grouped into sections of twelve. Consequently, there’s only twelve notes that repeat which reduces the learning curve drastically. As a demonstration of this, sing a note and hold it while playing the piano. You will notice that the note that you are singing can be played multiple times up and down the keyboard and also, the note that you are singing is in the same relative position. Once you establish the perfect pitch ability, it will increase your confidence and proficiency when playing piano and other instruments as well.

The problem is that you took very bad habits with your gestures, which explains how unpleasant it sounds when you play (and I think you might have great difficulties with speed too). You should have a "round" and flexible hand. Your fingers are very rigid too. You have to focus on it first, because then, it's difficult to relearn everything. The rythm is also wrong (you change it all the time at the end). Beside that, congratulation for what you did ! You probably worked a lot

If it's an honest progress shown gere in hours time the. Its really good and it really takes a lot of practice to master playing Piano 🎹 playing with both the hands ! I really like people who are consistent seriously not just consistent like you can be consistent bit of no use with no right technique amd prgress and right practice ! You showed consistency and right practice and hence a very good progression I am not at all consistent like once a month on piano like five to ten hours a month only !
