I read this series as a young girl because it was available at my local library and I was lucky enough to be able to read the entire series from beginning to end. I think it's worth looking into to me! (Also, I think I never compared it to Sailor Moon ironically enough even though I liked it back in the day since I saw it as its own thing). It's really nice to know there's a dedicated fanbase for Wedding Peach in Germany of all places to the point they got a volume compilation reprint. Also, fun fact: Wedding Peach was the first series done by OLM as a studio and Wedding Peach's success actually was a factor leading to them later producing the Pokemon anime with the same staff involved in making Wedding Peach. Really though? I think we need to stop assuming a series is a rip-off because they share things in common on the surface because we could end up shutting series that we might have enjoyed had we given them a chance first.

Interesting fact: In Italy, the series was purchased in 1997 to be aired after the conclusion of the fifth season of Sailor Moon. However, for some reason, this never happened, and it remained unreleased until the summer of 2000, when it was finally broadcast in blocks of six episodes every Friday after midnight. Despite the late-night time slot, the series was heavily censored, and the storyline was altered. True to Italian tradition, the title was changed to "I tanti segreti di un cuore innamorato" ("The Many Secrets of a Loving Heart"). The names of all the characters were changed (e.g., Momo became SunRose, Yuri became Lily, Hinagiku became Daisy, Yosuke became Alex, Kazuya became Nicholas, and so on). The plot was completely rewritten, transforming the battle between Angels and Demons into a conflict between benevolent aliens from the planet Sparkling Crystalia and malevolent aliens from the Dark Planet. To hide the fact that they were angels, the protagonists were referred to as the "Princesses of Hearts" in their bridal forms and the "Queens of Hearts" in their warrior forms. Transformation phrases and attack lines were also modified (in a crazy way. For example Lily's Saint Strahl Stardust attack became: "Marvellous power of enamoured blue, unleash the thousand starry leaves of love! Behold the golden autumn of a shining heart!") and many silent moments, typical of certain situations, were filled with redundant explanations. Additionally, in the final episode, Reine Devila's blood-red tears were recolored blue, and the nude embrace between Wedding Peach and Viento was partially censored with the addition of a semi-transparent freeze frame. The series was aired only once and cannot be officially accessed except through unofficial streaming platforms. Only the Wedding Peach DX OVAs were released uncensored, adapted by Dynamic in 3 VHS in 1999.

Along with Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach is also one of the anime that I watched back when I was young. An underrated gem and also a great magical girl anime to watch. Also, many people especially Koreans mistakenly understand that Wedding Peach aired before Sailor Moon. This is mainly because Wedding Peach was aired before Sailor Moon. Thanks for this video

I do think there are a lot of specifics in common - not just the magical girl team, but Limone acting as a Tuxedo Mask figure for a while, the love interest being kidnapped and dragged away to the villain lair, being reincarnated from a magical kingdom. I watched Wedding Peach about a year ago. I liked it quite a lot, but I felt it fell a bit short compared to other popular magical girl animes. The music is superb though! Saying this as a guy by the way haha.

I watched Superstition when it aired in 2017 and really liked. I hate it didn't get the promotion it deserved to see if it could have gone another season, but its hard out here for Black shows. I'm someone else besides me knows about it. Thank you for posting this video and commentary.

RE: "Girly equals bad" thinking - it's sad that this mindset has also affected some of the Western entries in the magical girl genre. Even supposed fans of the genre make fun of the Winx cartoons for their new transformations being increasingly blinged out, then turn around & cheer when (this is just one example) the new She-Ra has her & her friends' outfits get increasingly "practical" (frills are dropped, skirts swapped out for bike shorts, long hair to short). It's equating femininity with weakness, only trying to pretend that it's somehow "empowering". One of the things I love the most about magical girls is that when a girl shows up in her finest ball gown, that means that the fight is over & she's gonna WIN. It's taking something seen as frivolous and recasting it as the ultimate expression of strength. Even the darker entries in the genre like Madoka do that without trying to "subvert" it. It's unfortunately par for the course now, and I wish more people who consider themselves "progressive" realized that they're just regurgitating the sexism they think they're challenging.

The issue is in Japan they have various genres like magical girls and monster tamers, in the west people instead of looking into things like this want to call out what may be a good series as a rip off of another. If you actually trace back magical girls origins it goes back all the way to the 60's and the first magical girl was inspired by an old American tv series called Bewitched. Been watching the series and Hinagiku during the episode where you said she should have beat him up more was actually in the wrong first. I mean...she went up to a strange man she didn't know and immediately started name calling him, then never apologized. Granted he was in the wrong too for fighting her, but she wasn't innocent either. lol

I stopped watching anime after I felt i'd exhausted all options that weren't super creepy about little girls (there are shockingly many that are creepy as hell) I'm so so glad to find another cutesy shojo!

Thank you very much for this review. In my younger years I did read/ watch tons of magical girl manga/ anime. But this was the first time I heard of wedding peach. It was very interesting to hear your thoughts about this show so I decided to give it a try. While the overall story does have some plotholes. I decided to binge read the manga and a now at ep 41 of the anime. The art and story is so nostalgic from the old shool magical girl anime I used to watch. I love the chemistry between Momoko and Yosuke, but damn the pacing is sometimes so weird. There are some really good episodes and moments out there but a lot of fillers are just... and I am disappointed with how they handled Lily and Limone's relationship. They should have developed it, instead of the sudden "Oh I was in love with you in your past life" scene. I would have loved to see some mutual attraction between the two early on and maybe make Limone more of a guide for the girls instead of randomly appearing after a fight and only doing something like 5% of the time and as you said at least have Yanagiba show some interest in Yuri or something. Be it through gestures or comments. It doesn't have to be plain obvious. And maybe make these devils feel like an actual threat, since it felt they were most of the time bullying the students of the same school over and over again. This should should have a reboot and they could incorporate stuff of both the manga and the anime. Because there are somethings the manga did better and other things the anime and they could improve what none did good. And I wanna know where are those two angels that originally married with the 4 somethings? Btw is we follow the credits, Scarlet and Jama-P would be dating. xD

Trying to remember how I stumbled upon this franchise *Looks up when the Anime came to USA* Oh, I remember now! In the early 2000s when I hit my 20s, I had started going to the mall more since we were getting more DVDs of anime stuff. I was browsing a store that had anime and stumbled upon Volume 1. I was already a Magical Girl nut (had the cringy fanfic and art to prove it from my teen years lol). I pretty much bought the first volume on a whim and was hooked. I kept getting each volume, but the store stopped bringing in new volumes after 6. I had to find out what happened online in the end and it be several years before I could watch certain episodes on early TH-cam. I doubt you could find them now. But yeah it's still a fav. I still need to buy those last 4 volumes. Oh back in the early 2000s, I learned about new anime and manga thanks to Newtype USA (it's not in syndication anymore) because each issue always came out with free DVD. This magazine was how I'd find other magical girl anime I loved like Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi, Pretear, Tokyo Mew Mew, and even other non-Magical Girl stuff lol. While I do agree that Wedding Peach shares some similarities with SM (which is still my fav anime franchise), it has enough differences for me to enough it. @4:04- *Sees fav manga* EEEEE!!! I know I said that Sailor Moon is my fav franchise, but From Far Away is my fav manga. I regret not buying the manga at the time it came to the US. @9:39- Lol, the French R can be tricky. I took French in College and my professor described it best, it feels like you got a frog in your throat, and you barely pronounce it lol. I was able to get it down after practicing a lot. Anyway, great video.

I believe the same animation team also did a version of Cutey Honey called Cutey Honey Flash. Both styles look similar.

I still was a huge fan of Wedding Peach before it was on German TV. Me and my best friend found this series in a magazine called "Animania". And later it was my first Manga that I bought . Still in love with Pluie/Ame ❤❤❤I hope we're getting a remake!

In the german dub yosukes nickname for momoko is Pfirsichtörtchen which means little peach cake 😊

Sailor Moon was never that popular in South Korea in the middle of the 1990s due to considering it as a Wedding Peach rip-off.

Sailor Moon is life but I adore Wedding Peach because I love the sexy stylish villains and it uses the same elements as Sailor Moon whereas Precure is bad because the monsters of the day are so poorly drawn and not cute.

There is a anime that comes to mine about a teenage girl, revealing herself to her parent or her father and that anime is soushin shoujo matoi or matoi the sacred slayer

Edited my last post 'cause of butt hurt trolls. The Wedding Peach DX DVD's don't have the extras you're looking for and I've heard rumors that a Sailor Moon director hated Mamoru because he had a creepy crush on Sailor Moon and that's why her boyfriend was aged up and hurt a lot in the anime and was made into a jerk towards Usagi.

sailor moon is heavy inspired by many shojos, sentai, majokkos (specifically the fashion and idol ones of the 80s) and even cutie honey herself. theres no way Minako's design isnt a reference to Honey, I even think she does Honeys speech in Sailor V once or twice too. nothings original fellas. however as a big big fan of old school majokkos (think sally and ranzie) you cant deny sailor moons influence on the genre almost every henshin from then on takes from Moon Prism Power (and the nudity concept itself is cutie honey), the delivery of Peach's speeches or attacks are even similar in rhythm (the closest way I can explain this is in the Live Action PGSM they deliver their attack lines different from how its typidally done usually said faster shorter ect its a different rhythm). Peach and other magical girls from then on also use the same or similar sound effects bank (granted sailor moon takss from older stuff theyre not all from sailor moon) like a lot of sailor moon's sfx can be heard in older works especially kamen rider but they're now HEAVILY associated with sailor moon and magical girls cus of the usage. And even then sailor moon only does any of that cus of its tokusatsu and sentai influence. if Naoko's older version of the manga indicates anything a lot of times the girls just attack or transform, they don't shout anything, once toei oushed for more sentai influence reprints added more attacks. (ie Mercury's Attack: Shabon Spray or Aqua Mist for later stuff, went unnamed until 2003, she just does it)

I loved watching your observation of this anime. It's interesting because it's been years and I still enjoy watching it. I'm just such a fan of how the heirlooms are what create there transformation sequences and the interesting history between angels and demons falling in love. I wish the OVA would have been longer.
